{Ed025's Note - when nelson gets his eye back AL .. :)

08 Jul 2017 23:04:48
I for one ed am very excited by Rooney coming back think he will eager to prove his doubters wrong and earn a recall to the England team has bin one of the best goal scorers to play in prem over the years and think if played up front not havin to worry about tracking back like he has done for so long he will score many goals this season great leader to have around with all these new signings also but with so many new faces we might need to be a little pataint and give team time to gel starting early in Europe will be a big help.

{Ed025's Note - i really hope your right fladh, im starting the season with an open mind mate and all the players will have my support..

I think Rooney is going to hit the ground running when he starts. He has the added incentives of being a blue anyway, the world cup next year, that he'll probably fight tooth and nail to win back his place for, as it could be his last, and correct me if I'm wrong, but he's brought his kid up as a blue, and no Dad wants to look bad in front of their kid! I'm just saying, I think he's more likely to play his all for the shirt, rather than fade quietly into the twilight of his career. He's still got a few overhead screamers left in him!

08 Jul 2017 19:26:17
I think Rooney is a great signing. So much youth in our side it's important to have leaders as well. This guy for better or worse has experienced more than any other playing English footballer. He loves Everton you just need to look at his kids room to know that. Business is business and he made the best of his career like we all would. If we can add Giroud then we are in dreamland.

A starting XI of Pickford, Baines, Williams, Keane, Holgate, Schniederlin, Gana, Klassen, Sandro, Giroud and Lookman with a bench including Rooney, Calvert Lewis, Mirallas, Barkley, Jagielka, Barry, Davies. With two massive new players coming in January in Bolasie and Coleman it's hard to see where Barkley fits in especially if Sigurdsson joins as well. The only worrying area is left back.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

08 Jul 2017 19:49:28
Really can't see Wayne coming bk to sit on the bench mate he could of stayed at United for the last two years of his contract and earned double what were paying him.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Jul 2017 19:58:04
With European games Rooney will start easy 25 games next season. Just if everyone is fit, no rotation and we manage to sign Giroud, history dictates that Koeman loves a number 9 who can hold the ball up and head the ball. Giroud is the best in the league at that in his position. I would not be shocked if we fail with Giroud if Koeman doesn't try and get Pelle to come back to the prem.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Jul 2017 20:23:52
Rooney on a free? massive cut in wages? played less games but scored more goals and assists than Barkley. People seem to be assuming he is coming to play up top. He is a utility player that can play 9 on a desperate day or a cold midweek game in Russia. 10 and be more effective than Ross. CM and RW. even at a push RB
I for one hope he shoves some of the negative comments straight back down their throats. He will be a great servant to the club for the rest of his life now. He is a blue nose and he indirectly saved our club 13 years ago. He only scored 17 goals for us. I was gutted he went but it would have been a waste of talent if he had stayed. He wasnt ever going to be able to elevate us at the time. His transfer fee did. fact.
Sure its an opinions page and I love it but sometimes it just feels like people wanna put the boot in to feel better about him leaving. Get over it. He shoved it up our noses with his success yet he was ultimately always vocal about his love of the club. Some people still screw about him kissing the Man utd badge. 17/ 18 year old in the heat of the moment who had had a ridiculous amount of abuse from some EFC supporters.
Welcome back lad and what a lift to the place he will be. I say 50% of his worth is away from match day.

Agree7 Disagree1

08 Jul 2017 21:04:54
Blue76 I'm with you. He is a great signing for a squad with European football and with injuries, suspensions and the necessity of squad rotation with Europa league he will play a lot of minutes. I just don't think by the end of the window he would make the first XI if everyone is available but that happens maybe 10 games a season and so the other hopefully 50-60 odd we will play as we win the FA Cup the Europa and finish a valiant 3rd that he'll get a lot of game time. Koeman plays historically with a target man and then two 10s off the 9. He doesn't play with wingers, he plays fairly direct football and then bring the midfield in to the attack once it's up there. I'm expecting 5-10 goals from gana Davies, klassen, lookman, mirallas, Rooney, Sandro et al then the number 9 chips in with 20 rather than 30. He was a world class centre back our defence, keeper and defensive mids are top draw. Koeman will aim for very tight, get the ball up top and then let the players play. None of the brown shoes debacle.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Jul 2017 21:31:26
I'll have some of that Svenny lad ;)
I am sure if the guy really was precious for game time and to be the number one guy, he would have gone to easy street and had a slice of American pie. He is an ex Man UTD legend-captain-topclub goal scorer - top England scorer. 31.

He (in football terms) is a bright guy, he knows what we have been building, he knows the gulf isn't as big between us and the top 6 as it had been 10 years ago. I believe he is fully aware he will get more games at our place but is by no means a shoe in for 1st name of the team sheet. He will sit on the bench at times and he will be fine with it.

Cant wait for this season to get goin. buzzing Svenny absolutely buzzin!

Hi Eds, the Lukaku and Rooney deals were said to not be linked but they both had medicals on the same day. is there any link or just coincidence? Would love to see Giroud, Sigurdsson and VVD to top off what has been an unbelievable summer for an Evertonian. Also the U23's looking a force. can't wait for the season to start! COYB.

Do you know what lads. "I would love it if we" finished above them next season, "i would love it".

Have just seen we have been cut from 50/ 1 into 2/ 1 to sign VVD. Not that i think it will happen, but bookies are clearly wary, which can only be a good sign.

Weve spent around 100m. Sold Rom for 90m. So we are 10 in deficit. If we sell Mori to some Italian side for 15m we will be 5 in the proff.

Go and spunk 20m on Oli, meet Swans value of Sig - 35-40 mill and then go an get VVD for Saints value - 60-70m.

We will have spent around 120 for the window, which is what the plan was before it opened anyway.

It sounds a lot like football manager but the way we have been doing business this year, it isn't out of the realms of possibility haha.

One can dream ey!

COYB.

Also sold cleverly for 8m, delefeou for 12m. so added to the possible 90m for RL then that's 108m. if Barkley goes and Robles, and mcgeady. then conservatively there's another 30m there. however, as eds always say forget the money. it seems as though RK and SW have identified what they need and the board are doing upmost to get them what they want. it's unbelievable what is happening g at the club, and regardless of what happens this season it would seem that the board have as much desire as the fans. that's got to be bode well for the future!

With delboy clev niasse mcgeady bringing in possible 30m also think McCarthy and Barkley will go possible 40m plus on top of lukaku 90m could be 160m sales ins 95m so far leaving 65m hopefully for me we can ad sigurdsson and dembele also to top things off and with rumours of funi leaving say even 15m add 40m and go all out for van djlk we will only of spent 40m of our own money what an amazing window this would be and a very exciting young team that could go on and challenge at the top for many year to come so exciting right now really can't wait for the season to start.

Ed given the ins, outs, injury's and speculative incomings. I still think we need a left back and centre forward, and a left winger. unless that's where Sandro is going to play (and i'm assuming adamola will be on right) . If the club can pull that out the bag then I think I'll explode!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - you may be blowing up in the next couple of weeks i hope jcl.. :)

08 Jul 2017 12:02:29
This isn't a pop at anyone, just a genuine question as I honestly wonder.

Why do people, or why are people so interested and hung up on the money side of the transfers? Does it actually matter what the club pays or gets for a player? Especially when I see people getting all upset over how much we will sell lukaku for!

There was a podcast on the Echo website the other day and one of the lads on there was completely obsessed with it. Talking about players as "value for money" and the like. Like it was his money! I just don't get it myself, each to their own, but I could t care less what a player earns or what he costs.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - me neither pierre, so long as they dont come knocking on my door for a contribution then i dont give a toss mate..

That said, now that it seems the Rom deal is as good as done, I'm really looking forward to seeing who the club bring in now. It's never nice to lose one of your top players ( and we certainly have had a few of those leave the club over the years! ) , but I genuinely feel like this is part of the team moving forward and won't miss him too much (I hope! )

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - that may depend on who we bring in mate..

Not a rumour, just a query. Does anyone know if the £75 Mil INCLUDES £15 Mil in addons, or is it £75 Mil PLUS £15 Mil in addons? BBC Sport saying Includes, other saying with be added on. Guess we'll never know as I'm sure it will be undisclosed when officially released. For me, £60 Mil plus £15 in add ons is a poor deal, but we'll see I guess! What do you think? For me, I hope we get Giroud now, think he would be outstanding for us!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Interesting stat shown on sly sports yesterday. Out of the 48 strikers in the Prem last season, Rom was last in distance covered per match. Even Slatan ran more than him. He was also towards the bottom in runs made. Our new boys will undoubtedly run more and create more space for the others to have chances. Onwards and upwards blues.

08 Jul 2017 12:39:32
Hi Blue Heart, both EFC and lfc have strict security at their respective training grounds to protect the players and staff so unfortunately no you cannot watch them train, which is a pity when you compare that to the way a lot of European clubs have open training sessions.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - good info mate..cheers..

08 Jul 2017 14:06:31
Couple of seasons ago you got a free wheelie bin with your sky package if you were an LFC supporter so you could watch them train and also watch the match, more privalaged fans used their Air miles to get stadium tours and also scarfs that can be read both ways so they would never be upside down if the camera captured them :p.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is probably worth mentioning that some clubs periodically have an open training session at their stadium. Most mainland European do this pre-season at somepoint. I can think of a few occasions where the London clubs have done this in England - Chelsea do it each year and I recall Arsenal and Spurs doing it. You might want to look at the club web site to see what is planned.}

Why is everyone so concerned about who replaces rom, we will play a different way now that he has gone as we're buying players that can adapt there games, Sandro will be able to play as a front 3 or a two could even play alone in the system Korean sees fit by Rom going just means we will buy another striker but don't necessarily mean it's like for like,
For once as an Everton fan loosing our talisman has not bothered me one bit.
Will we score more goals as a team than last season, 100% yes koeman wants productivity. Let's go and get Morata how funny would that be.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

08 Jul 2017 09:37:23
Looks like Man Utd now close to a deal for Lukaku. No surprises. Chelsea refuse to pay the agent's fees demanded, hence an ability of Chelsea to force through a deal.

In answer to a previous question. It isn't £75 million as one lump sum. When clubs refer to "up front", it simply means that the figure doesn't include any additional clauses. The vast majority of all transfers are paid over a number of years, normally corresponding to the length of a contract signed. The Premier League much vaunted "2 year" limit has never been enforced because it contravenes EU regulations.

In this case, Utd will pay Everton 10% now and about 65% over the length of the contract Lukaku signs: probably 5 years. The rest of the deal will comprise clauses etc etc.

It isn't a drama. Everton pay fees this way also.

I often wonder why some fans get all worked up about transfer payments, when it doesn't affect them. Calm down.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

08 Jul 2017 12:20:16
Sorry fatdave but I totally disagree with what you are saying.

1) What happens if the player signs an extension does the payment term increase?

2) How does FFP work with this?

3) What EU regulations is it that say a club has to wait longer than a normal business to collect it's money?

4) Technically until final payment is made he remains an Everton player unless stated in the TOC that payments are spread.

5) Up Front mean exactly that, all monies are paid up-front. That is the reason why so few clubs could actually afford him.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Jul 2017 09:15:52
If sky is to be believe and it's 75m, plus 15m in add on's and Rooney for Lukaku then Bill, Farhad and everyone else deserves a big round of applause for that deal. It has to be said over the years we may not have excelled buying players until now, but always came out with quite simply astonishing deals whilst selling, 28m for Felliani, 47-8m for Stones and now 90m for Lukaku. 👏🏻👏🏻.

Finally Rom has left the building. I wish him the best of luck and thank him for what he done for EFC. But I won't miss his whining on about Champions League and wanting to play for a top team. He should remember playing for us has got him his Dream Move, and that Everton are a top club who were sleeping for a while but are now waking up.

OK, Rom has finally gone and I'm pleased.
We get a big transfer fee and he gets a club his ego wants and at least he can share a daily shower with his lover pogba.
We now need a monster of a signing to replace Rom and propel our club forward, I would love to Finnish higher than utd and add some silverware.
Regarding Rooney, he will sell shirts and raise our profile, plus he has desire and fight; so, I will give him my full support like all blueboys! Coyb.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

08 Jul 2017 10:16:16
Not quite sure why you would be pleased he's the best striker we have had in years and 20+ goals a season, He has left for a record transfer fee to play for a club he believes will bring him success in the champions league and challenge for league titles, its his profession and his ambition, just as many of us want to do in our jobs.
We can only hope we make a good signing as his replacement and I don't see Rooney being that!

Agree1 Disagree1

08 Jul 2017 11:05:01
Because wakka he didn't want to play for us!
Last season he stopped playing half way through the season and when on international duty his mouth done more moving then him!
He has a big future but I feel his ego and group of friends might be his downfall, (his arrest last night in LA) .
We can all guess this move was planned back in March like when Moyse left and fellani did too.

Pauly you will find a lot of players in todays game will see us as a stepping stone they are all chasing the prizes and of course the money, ie why would any player go to china?
I don't take it personally as an Evertonian its the way the game has changed, which I don't believe is for the better.
I am so pleased we are signing and bringing on so many young players which I hope will be our future, but unless we can break into the top four and start winning something the same could happen with them.
Lukaku's gone now good luck to him the grass is not always greener!

Not posted for ages, what a time to be a blue! Can hardly believe every time I wake up it is more good news for Everton: be it transfers or the ground. Moshiri and Kenright, Koeman and Walsh thank you for restoring the good feeling to being a blue. Always used to say at least my Dad took me to the game in the 80s (first season 84) and I've seen us lift the League Title twice. Thought I'd never get to see it again now that I can really appreciate it. Not saying by any means we are going to win the league anytime soon, but at least we can start to believe better things are on the horizon! Have lived down south for a while now and it's good to see more and more Everton shirts around! - Ed 02- love your comments and commitment- don't tar all us blues with that cretins brush!

Do not wish to appear to be the pessimist but I hope we have someone other than Rooney and Sandro lined up to give us the goals now that Lukaku has gone. Because if we have not it could be a long hard season.

is it just me or do sly sports news just report news that's not true I'm lying in bed watching it and I see things like utds bid accepted (although I'm pretty sure their own reporter said yesterday it's not) then Lukaku is on holiday in L. A and will undertake a medical (which I'm sure again isn't true as he is meant to be back at finch farm but instead gone AWOL) is this sly trying to stop lukaku looking like a disrespectful tool just because it looks like he is going to sign for Utd and they don't want to upset them or I'm I reading too much into it.

Betting on Lukaku joining Chelsea has suspended. Ed, if koeman uses Rooney as a striker, do you think Sandro would be a bench warmer or do you think he could go as a 2 up top?

{Ed025's Note - i think he might play sandro wide bill, that is of course if we sign another striker, if not then rooney in the hole with sandro up top, myself i suspect we will sign another forward be that giroud, dembele or someone else mate..
