I see Jannsen is looking to be heading to Spurs and stating he could learn a lot from Harry Kane!
Evidently didn't watch England in the Euros then!

Eds any info on our transfer targets I seen a post yesterday saying will try today to do it. Have you heard of any interest from us for Arnautovic from Stoke? I think he would give us the perfect balance on the left and also a bit more physical. After looking at the French team they are mostly big physical players if you look at our first team I think it needs to be more physical also.
Coleman, stones, Mori, Baines
Mcarthy, Besic, delefeou, Cleverley or Mirrallas, Barkley, Lukaku.

Take out Stones and Lukaku then it really is week. The premier league has always been a physical league and if you look at mourinho teams his full backs and cm are tall and physical.
Probably get away with our fullbacks but would like to see one physical midfielder alongside either Mcarthy or Besic. Arnautovic on the left and Sissoko on the right and have Mirrallas and delefeou as alternative options depending on opposition. I know this would be controversial but Fellaini to play off the striker as another option when needed again when Ross unable to break a team down all good teams need variety and these would make us a threat.

{Ed002's Note - Arnautovic is not of interest at this time. I am travelling for a few days so unable to provide an update just now.}

Anyone else remember the "boy's pen"? As I recall it was at the Gwladys St end. I was unfortunate enough to be in there throughout the 70's watching our beloved team, it almost put me off football for life, I was so scared to go, yet needed my Everton fix.

Anyone know when it was taken down and anyone else ever go in there?

08 Jul 2016 18:04:58
Remember it well grumpy.

08 Jul 2016 18:59:53
Yes it was in the Gwladys street end on the right side if you look at it from the pitch. It was like a prison and apart from those at the front of the cage you couldn't see a bloody thing. Went in it once when I was about 12 and never again. I would rather suffer the bruises you got from the crowd in the Gwladys Street end as a young kid than going into the boys pen. Not sure when it was removed, certainly when they moved to all seating but maybe before then. Ask Bill Kenwright, he was a frequent attendee in the Boys Pen or so he would like us to believe.
Funnily enough I was yesterday looking at one of my old Everton programms which cost 3d (which is three pence for the kids) . It was for the FA Cup 5th round verses Man. United on February 14th 1953. It was four days before my 14th Birthday. No boys pen for me, I was in the Gwladys Street end and the attendance was over 70,000. Bill was probably snuggled up in the boys pen. Anyone else at that game? By the way we won 2-1, eat your heart out Rooney.

{Ed001's Note - I think Ed025 was busy celebrating his 60th birthday that day.....}

08 Jul 2016 19:57:03
I have tried explaining to people just how bad the "pen" was. Not really sure anyone believed me though. Sounded more like a Stephen king Novel.

sigh the things we did to be in the Gwladys St End.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Jul 2016 20:24:27
The pen was the only financial option for a lot of kids to get to the match. The view was terrible and it was a bit rough. I wouldn't have recommended it to a posh lad. Used to get out when the gates opened about 15 minutes before the end get in the Gladys.
Thanks for jogging the memory Grumpy.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Jul 2016 20:56:04
Love these memories. Boys pen was like a chicken coup in the corner of the ground. Sort of initiation into the ground itself. Remember you could only see the game if you hung like a monkey on the mesh. Still loved the noise when a goal was scored, and would love to go back in time and do it all again. Brings a tear to the eye.

08 Jul 2016 21:41:05
Ed 025 must be about the same age as your kids then Ed 001?

To scotch any rumours there may be circulating.

I have not been approached by RK to join Everton. I have spoken in depth with him and have to agree with his reasoning as not to use me for the forth coming seasons, inspite of the approach made last season from RM.

We both agree that at the age of 53 and 20st in weight I may be lacking the credentials required to be our number one goalkeeper. That coupled with the fact I can no longer bend down to tie up my own bootlaces also rules me out as a potential replacement for Lukaku.

Whilst he says that a position for me to join our first team he did give me some hope, apparently I should be good enough to joins those across the park.

On a personal note - I would like to see us sign the following players during this transfer window;
Schmeichal
Bruno Indi
Witsel
Mata
Slimani
Yarmalenko
Heller.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

08 Jul 2016 11:48:31
Leno or Cillasen
Van Djik
Witsel
Wijnaldum or Mata
Heard we in talks with Heller but also thought we were in talks with Fc Porto striker. Slimani seems to gone quiet, but that was probably a Martinez target. Pelle has looked good in Euros to.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Jul 2016 12:40:13
I might need a tin hat here but I'm not arsed about Yarmalenko. He was one of Martinez's 'attack, attack, attack' dreams, who in reality was wanted on the basis of one performance against the blues. He was invisible in the Euros for Ukraine and I don't know where Koeman would fit him in.

Marcelo Bielsa has quit the managers job at Lazio after just 2 days from signing a deal with them. lol. looks like we dodged a bullet there then - didn't he quit Marseille after just 1 day in the job at the start of last season? Lol.

Read a news article this morning on another rumour site that Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Lukaku and his representatives, But Everton have said we want 55m but Arsenal won't pay that much. Is this not tapping up? If a club doesn't accept a bid surely you cannot talk to the player and offer him terms to force a move through.

08 Jul 2016 11:02:54

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Jul 2016 12:43:10
Lukaku is in New York so it won't be him they've spoken to, more likely his agent. Nothing in the rules say they can't speak to his agent as often as they want. He's still under contract and there's no way Wenger will pay ยฃ65m or ยฃ75m whatever the current going rate is.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Jul 2016 14:51:37
Wenger all over, always wants to pay 50% less than the going rate, but when he sells a player the asking price is totally over the top, 75m, put up, or shut up!

Hi ed

Why haven't Everton signed anyone yet? It seems very much like the times before when we just have to sit back and do nothing whilst other clubs mop the good players up?

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - There is a new manager who will want to make sure that he understands the needs and the window has been open less than a week.}

08 Jul 2016 10:24:47
