If we don't get mina i hope we go all out for zouma. In all honesty if we could get zouma at 15mil instead of 35 for mina i would rather that. He's proven in the league . We don't want to end up with another centre back version of klassen. As long as we sign a decent centre half i will be happy or see what dave watson is up to .

However I heard it on authority that we will sign 4 or 5 left backs with minutes to go before the transfer window closes. sound familiar? only joking fellow Blues. I have to be honest if Bernard goes through as expected I will take my hat off to Brands and Silva what a signing and for free!

I know all the haters will be saying well your paying £150k a week but in reality if we tried to buy him we would be paying him that anyway with a transfer fee!

I like most have been frustrated over the window as we can all see problems that have been gradually getting worse as the season have been going on ageing squads are never easy to overhaul especially if you go through managers like we have lately,

You can see that Brands and Silva want really quality and actually if you look at the players people who know how to win, there isn’t the scatter gun like last year or the squad players of a few years ago (Kone and co) 1st team players who will make an impact and make the rest sit up and take notice! (Without competition for places you are simply going through the motions)

There was another revolution not two far away from us which started with a small Brazilian player and look where they are now!

Onwards and upwards blues!

Just heard a worrying interview on Talk sport. The South American expert was very down on Bernard . He's a sulker, too light weight for Prem and very inconsistent . That is why we had a clear run at him . On a brighter note he did say if the Mina deal came off what a acquisition he'd be for the club . Just hope a Portuguese speaking manager can get more from Bernard than some of his previous coaches . Personally Brandts and Silva have my trust .

Agree3 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 18:26:58
Silva and Brands have already said that they will be looking for players with the right character to work for the team. Richarlison and Digne seem to be ideal in regards to this so far (Digne apparently is known for taking to the streets with water and first aid for victims of the Barcelona attacks - what a legend) , so I'm sure Bernard would have been vetted beforehand so they know the kind of personality and player they were bringing in. Plus Richarlison reckons he's a good bloke. And he's also good friends with Mina. Maybe we're bringing all his mates in!

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 18:52:37
Have read other stuff on the lad (Bernard) , mainly the fact that he has not played in any of the top leagues of Europe or elsewhere and that we had a clear run at him. Personally I know nothing about him, so have to trust that Brands and Silva know what they are doing. Not been impressed with pre-season, the serious stuff begins Saturday, can't go away this Season, frustrating but there it is, so have to wait for the first home game to see. Assessment so far is that we look good in front of Schneiderlin and need strenghthening from him backwards (including Schneiderlin - my opinion) .

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 21:57:19
I seem to remember lots of people saying how Coutinho was lightweight and look how that turned out!

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2018 10:08:02
Don't get this 'lightweight' theory, Coutinho, Silva and Sterling all done well in the Premier League, would these not be classed as lightweight. End of the day if you are small yet technically gifted you find the space to not get hit and if you do get hit you draw a foul. He is being brought in as a creative player not as a ball winner so doesn't need to be massive.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

08 Aug 2018 15:25:58
Surely one of the best signings when we look back at this window will be Marcel Brands (my autocorrect changed it to Marvel Brands, which seems quite fitting! ) Regardless of any other incoming / outgoings he was tasked with reducing the wage bill and recruiting quality players and so far he's done a tremendous job in just 3-4 weeks. We may have made a loss on some players, but we can already say that this has been an impressive first TW for the new management team, especially if Bernard, and one of the touted defenders arrive (and I have faith that we will be pleasantly surprised) . I feel that some posters are still unsure of Silva as an appointment, and the Eds have highlighted his seeming lack of staying power or commitment to previous clubs, but I think he's got a harshly judged record, based on him leaving after relatively positive spells with each. He was at Estoril for 3 years, gaining promotion with them and consistently achieving against the odds, then at Sporting was only sacked by their insane owner who was essentially jealous of Silvas popularity. Then he went to Olympiakos and signed for 2 years, leaving after one for personal reasons (he's not the first manager to do this and hardly left them in the lurch as he left before t he season started after winning everything with them) . As Hull manager, he won his first 4 home games with a team already doomed to relegation, beating Manutd in the cup and them across the park. He left Hull to manage Watford where quite frankly he probably knew there would be problems given how many managers they had been through in just a few years, but wanted to stay in the PL. I think Silva has been looking for a club to stick with that matches his ambition, so I for one am glad he is with Everton where he will have arguably more support from any board he has worked with previously. I can't see any reason why he wouldn't stick with us for longer than the other clubs he's coached. Yes, he will be judged on performances, but it will take time. I think we have a lot to look forward to this season, so let's not be down about meaningless pre-season results, enjoy the rest of what is already an exciting window and get behind M&M for the start of a season full of possibilities. COYB!

The biggest difference compared to Walsh is the quality of player we've bought or been linked with.

No cuco's, Vlasic type players but instead players already at a pedigree club (The exception is Ricky where Silva has genuine knowledge of but knows the league already) . It does make a difference especially in ambition and expectation.

Cb for me is a must and preferably 2. I hope we are not going to see a Lukaku situation but this time at the back. In my opinion that would be us taking one step forward Richarlison Bernard! But two steps back Williams, Mori but none in.

I hear that Kieran Dowell is progressing nicely. In the next season or two he will undoubtedly be a first team player. Together with Tom Davies if we can hold on to them. Add in DCL and Lookman. This is all starting to look like decent midfield and forwards. Still needing the center halves. Holgate looking ok. let's hope his development continues at the same pace as now. Apparently the keeper we signed from Arsenal is special too. Fast forward 2 years and then we might be talking a decent team. let's hope the fans are patient and can see this.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

08 Aug 2018 11:56:46
I get what you are saying with the youth of the team and agree.

Arsenal fans are annoyed about Virginia leaving as he's regarded as a hot prospect by them. Dowell did well on loan at Nottingham Forest by all accounts, bar a few bad games. Will Lookman an get the game time he craves? We'll see as the season unfolds but I'd like him to get a chance. Tom Davies needs to be more involved in games as sometimes he has a tendency to go missing in games. My biggest worry is that DCL needs to score more goals as he really doesn't get many although he does work hard and try. Holgate needs a consistent run of games in the team. Just my thoughts on those.

Agree3 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 13:33:28
Howie, no one scored goals because we have been so preoccupied with a terrible ageing and injury hit (that goes with age too) defence. Think about it: Martina, Kenny, Williams, Jags, Baines and Holgate. All have either been good but are no longer. were never any good or might become good. but none are what you would call top 6 now! So our midfield has spent 99% of its time helping out and unable to get the ball up the pitch. add in Shneiderlin who wants to slow the game down to his pace every time he gets the ball. that leaves forwards relying on set pieces and getting the ball after the opposition has got back in numbers.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 13:49:00
But Davies is rubbish.
Dowel has a well publicised attitud3 and ego problem and hasn't.
DcL is in danger of slipping away from the first team and Lookman isn't anywhere near proven yet. I agree It great to have a good bunch of kids but to claim we have a new midfield is loco.

Agree2 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 14:59:17
Think you might find that as we move forward over the next two seasons that these lads just won’t be good enough sadly. This is a new Everton and they are aiming high. Young potential is just that, and so won’t get anywhere near the first team.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 17:42:40
Listen I'm not saying here DCL is going to Harry Kane but even the best don't start their careers scoring 30 goals a season.

2011 18-5 Leyton orient
2012 22-7 millwall
2013 15-2 Norwich and Leicester.

A player truly develops around the 25 26 mark and it's so much more difficult now as the league is so difficult compared to 10 years ago.

Some can kick on earlier but its rare in this league.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 08:24:43
We just HAVE to sign another center halve or 2. Look how we were last season defensively. Look how we have been pre season. We cannot go into the season hoping to win 7 - 6 every game (that was Ed025's joke) . in reality we will concede goals in most games if we start with our current squad. Talk of other forwards etc is irrelevant. We need 2 new center backs.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

08 Aug 2018 08:42:54
I'm sure we'll get at least one Degsy. Trust in M&M. Talk of Zouma this morning, I'd be happy with him.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 08:51:13
Have faith Degsy. I know it's got to be blind faith at the moment but they are working on it and hopefully you'll be happy come tomorrow night.
You might even get 2 new centre backs, another 2 in midfield, 2 new centre forwards and a partridge in a pear tree.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 09:16:53
Lets hope so guys. The defence of last season was so bad we knew we had to score 2 or 3 to get even a draw. I would be happy with 2 center halves and a central midfielder. but would even accept just 2 center halves. The forwards will perform if given the service. If Bernard signs, that will be loads of pace back in the squad with other recent additions. The only negatives are the time they all have to gel. Half of them don't even talk the same languages! As for a partridge. as long as none are turkeys!

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 09:57:52
Agreed Degsy, we have enough across the front line to be able to rotate and have a few that can play in more than one position. It wouldn’t surprise me if Richarlison ended up playing more centrally as he progresses.
2 CBs and a DM and we’re golden. Zouma on loan would be a sensible choice. Bernard came out of nowhere, hopefully the CBs will too!

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 10:03:43
I'd be delighted with one good centre back. Let Keane, Jags and Holgate fight it out for the other spot. If they have to compete for one position it will get the best out of whoever gets chosen. Would love to see Holgate given a proper chance. Huge potential there imho. Could save us spending on another player if he shines. Won't shine unless given a chance.

Strange that, let's give Silva half a season, yet Koeman told us right from the off it would take at least 2 years for progress and yet was given short shrift. Alardyce came in to do a job, did it and more so, finishing 8th and yet given the boot. Silva, relegated with Hull, given the boot at Watford for poor performance (don't buy into this it was Everton's fault, the bloke is supposed to be a professional) , never stays anywhere for long and yet he is hired on a long term plan. Let's see by Christmas.

Why look for negatives even before the start of the season, let's all live in abit of hope, it will be a rocky road, but you can't say there not trying to put right the wrongs of the last couple of seasons, keoman had 2 season and what a shambles it turned into, brand and Silva have had to rid the team of players, then bring in players, so far they seem to be on the right track, our attacking play, even thou we lost our friendlies was quite good, our defending wasn't, now we are after 2 centre defenders, got a new left back, to me it's all looking good, now been reported if it's true, we are after another striker from Portugal, so let give him a chance, you never no, he might just surprise us.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 13:37:44
I get where DFS is coming from. We panicked over Koeman. His sacking was too premature and resulted from losing Lukaku and the transfer window where we only signed number 10's. I think Allardyce arrived when Baines, Jags and Coleman returned from injury so was very fortunate. The fans got Allardyce sacked. Now we start again. I don't know if Silva will work magic, but at least we seem to be signing players in the right positions now and in the right age groups. Center halves needed today/ tomorrow.

08 Aug 2018 15:20:31
The pair of you have lost your minds. Trawling for rubbish to type, just for the sake of it.

Koeman was horrible.
Within the space of a month I saw our team embarrassed and out of Europa, knocked out of league cup, close enough to bottom of prem for relegation talk.

That was after spending a motsa in the transfer window, full of slow/ aging players and 3 x number 10's, none of which were cheap.

Koeman/ Walsh between them were to blame for this.

Koeman lost the dressing room and most of the fans. And too right he lost the fans. I spent the entirety of last season a laughing stock amongst mates.

To rub salt into the wound with the Europa league, we didn't even do our name/ history proud. He had that absolute Hack - williams, as captain and he got involved in a fight/ fan trouble away, after we were already being knocked out. It was a disgrace.

I also think you're flat out wrong about the Everton bid not being to blame for Silva and Watford's misfortune. It was 100% to blame, because the players stopped performing for him when they thought he wanted out, they couldn't see long term future anymore so chose not to buy into his dream. That was their loss.

Our gain in the end.
I'm really happy with how this new team of Brands/ Silva have started to rebuild our image and squad.
I also like both of their resumes and attitudes much more then the previous train wreck team.

Each to their own and degs/ dfs you're both obviously passionate fans with greats in the right place. This time, you've hit enter on the keyboard after a few too many though sorry.

I just pray we get some respect back for the club this season tbh.
The red half of Merseyside is light years ahead in all aspects and not so long ago, we had the chance to close that gap and really shouldn't have ever let this happen.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 15:32:58
Sacking Koeman wasn't premature at all, he had lost the dressing room, was allegedly aloof and isolated behind the scenes and he was serving up some dour, unimpressive football. He had to go. Fat Sam was sacked because, once again, the football was tiresome and insipid, his attitude and ego couldn't be kept in check whenever he opened his mouth. The fans may have been calling for his head but the board are neither blind nor deaf, he talked himself out of a job with a nice wedge for a payoff. We panicked bringing him in even though no team has ever been relegated in November in the history of the prem.

Agree0 Disagree0
