I need your opinions blues, if we were to get either a good start or good finish to the season, what would you rather have?, just abit of fun since the transfer news is shocking.

I'd rather a good finish, what about you?

GP {Ed025's Note - good start...otherwise all the moaning will start, and the confidence will be low..

Believable1 Unbelievable1

A good start, get in the mix for 5th-7th place and then keep our home form good towards the end of the season to clinch 6th. A good cup run will be welcome

Agree0 Disagree0

What about a good middle?.....just kidding. Tee hee (Wavertree Blue)

With the squad we have, a good pre season and the progression of some of the better youth players im facing this season with optimism. I think we genuinely have a great chance to get a european spot.If we get off to a good start, is there really any reason why we cant compete? I dont think so.Im talking about the team we haveNot the board, not Bill and not players we dont have.We have some of the most sought after players in England, and some of the best rising stars too {Ed025's Note - i applaud your optimism mate..but the lack of new blood in the squad, may find us out..

Believable0 Unbelievable1

While keeping all our best players is probably a priority for us, you always need a few new players to freshen things up and put pressure on certain players who might be a bit cosy in their position. Without doubt we need a winger and a striker, minimum. {Ed025's Note - i agree 100%..

Agree0 Disagree0

No problem at all, as long as we can guarantee no injuries.... {Ed025's Note - that my friend is unrealistic to the extreme..

Agree0 Disagree0

For every season that we fail to compete in the transfer market, our more established players get another year older. I'm all for giving younger players a chance, but will we have 5 or 6 who will make the top grade in the next couple of years when the likes of Distin, Neville, Saha, Cahill etc are getting past it? We may have a good youth set up but it's a big ask and a major gamble if that's the policy. {Ed025's Note - too much of a gamble, its great to have young players coming through, but they must be introduced slowly, the way we are going, they will be coming straight from school onto the pitch!..

Agree0 Disagree0

They say it every year that it won't be bad at all and we have a good squad which is closely knit but they miss the simple point that you need to freshen things up always. New players coming in always try to make an impression. If we don't sign a good forward then we'll again have to rely on Cahill's 9 or10 goal tally and then since either Saha or Beckford will play up top then maximum of 15 goal tally from them since Saha will be injured again. You're looking at the same mid field and there won't be any competition for places either in there.
Arteta 29
cahill 31
Distin 33
Neville 34
Osman 30
Saha 32
The older they get, lesser effective they will get. Cahill will however keep heading them home 9 or 10 times a season but we need to add on that. Osman is at his peak and that may be over in a year or two. {Ed025's Note - good post that mate..

Agree0 Disagree0

Thank you mate, thats more like it. Its not all doom and gloom.
The RS won the champions league with a much worse squad than we have. Im not saying we will be unbeatable but in comparison we have a good squad.

Infact, ignore that last post, just thought of something else.

...........Howard...........
Nev...Jags..Distin..Baines
...Osman..Felli..Barkley...
............GUEYE.............
.........Becks..Saha.........

Gueye has proved time and time again why he deserves a start, scored 4 in 4 in pre-season and has said his best position is behind the striker, COYB

GP

Believable3 Unbelievable2

Im sure he scored 3, dumwhit

Agree0 Disagree0

Barkley and gueye could step up to the mark for us this season. They both look fantastic prospects and we will have experienced players round them to guide them. {Ed025's Note - i would like to think so, but throwing them in at the deep end, may prove too much for them...so slowly slowly catchee monkey..

Its time to except that we are going to start the season with no new signings. I do expect 1 possibly 2 to come in by the time the window closes ( on loan) who? So what team do we start with on Sat, Coleman suspended and injured, Arteta not fit,.

Team I would go with,
GK:T.Howard
RB:P.Neville
LB:L.Baines
CH:S.Distin
CH:P.Jagielka
CM:M.Fellaini
RW:R.Barkley
CM:L.Osman
LM:M.Gueye
CF:T:Cahill
CF:L.Saha
SUBS
GK,J.Mucha, T.Hibbert, J.Heitinga, J.Rodwell, D.Bilyaletdinov, V.Anichebi, J.Beckford.
Only picked Anichebi ahead of Vellios because Moyes
will.

Dero.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

I would rather see this team start but feel Moyes will probably go wiv Billy & Rodders instead of Gueye & Barkley

Agree0 Disagree0

Bily suspended.

Agree0 Disagree0

Barkley = Central player

Agree0 Disagree0

Barkley has look so composed and assured in pre season, he looks like he has been in the team years and i think he would be worthy of a start against spurs {Ed025's Note - refer to earlier post..

Agree0 Disagree0

GK:T.Howard

R:Neville C:Distin C:Jagielka L:Baines

CM:Fellaini CM:J.Rodwell

R:Osman L:Gueye
AM:Barkley

CF:Saha

SUBS
J.Mucha, T.Hibbert, J.Heitinga, T.Chill, D.Bilyaletdinov, V.Anichebi, J.Beckford, M.Artea
And some of the youngsters that are coming though,

This is the team i would start with, since we as bans and injurys

Whats your thoughts?

Just heard Blackburn have made an offer for Yobo, don't know if it's true. Hope it is. If so im guessing an offer of about 3-4mil......i'm sure Moyes would take anything really just free up wages as i'm certain that is why we arn't signing: low wage budget.

I also wouldn't be too upset about the lack of signings, all our main players are still here and i would think Moyes is trying to put together a wage package for Fellaini

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Darren Gibson of Man Utd more likely?

Agree0 Disagree0

Gibson would be a good squad player for us, as we are overloaded with midfielders

Hi ED just a quick question, which if the answer is the answer is 'yes' begs another question.

Question 1. Is Sir Philip Green the reported 7th Richest man in the UK with an estimated fortune of 4.33 billion, the same Philip Green that sits on our board?

Question 2 if the answer is 'Yes' to the above, Why isn't he investing in the club? {Ed001's Note - I believe it is the same man and I have no idea why he doesn't invest. The only time he considered investing money was in a new stadium, from which he expected to get his money back. I think he just isn't as big a fan as he is a lover of money. Greed is higher in his priorities than Everton I would have to say. I fail to understand it myself, he has enough money to easily put a few mill in each year.}

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Isn't Philip Green a Spurs fan? or is that just rumours I've heard

I wish the Grantchester family would just step up, but they never will {Ed025's Note - none of them are everton supporters!...thats for sure..

This guy writes:
"06 Aug 2011 08:25:14
It makes me angry - every one of these posts is negetive. (sic) Stop, compose yourselves, think.
Villareal are spanish - they play football like spanish teams. Theyre a good spanish team... they keep possession of the ball and play pass and move. Our performance wasn't awful, although it wasnt great it was simply the difference in style."

So their style is to pass and move and keep possession, and work hard for each other, using basic but good ball skills - and ours is what exactly? To not do any of those things very well. To not have a style of play that gives us at least some useful possession of the ball and some good chances. No - to just run around randomly into places where were can't do anything with the ball, to get closed down before we've decided what to do with it, to get it taken off us more times than not - to kick the ball into touch when we feel the slightest pressure (even if their guy is not within 10 yards of us). Composure on the ball and intelligent use of space? No.
I'm not sure what this guy thinks is good about our style but I didn't see much that was good at all - other than Louis - just a load of static players not breaking sweat.

Here's an idea. If the 'spanish style' of football is so obviously better than and more effective than ours, (and I don't necessarily believe that pass&move and 2-3 touch football is 'spanish' - all good teams do it) - why are we not copying the 'spanish' style? They must be wetting themselves that we're sticking to the 'non'spanish' method of humping, hoofing, bobbling and bouncing, standing and watching.

Here's what I'd do (instead of moaning about not Kenwright not being richer) - employ Villereal's training ground coaches and sack ours and then teach our lads how to pass and move and play two-three touch football - it's not difficult and it's not expensive.

Blindly saying everything looks good when it obviously isn't is not good 'supporting' - it's just moronic. Things will never change unless we come up with better ways of doing things.
