I remember the euphoria of the country when Wales got as far the semi finals in the Euros couple years back. Just an intense feeling of community and togetherness felt throughout the country.

Saddly, we aren't there this year, but wish England all the best in the rest of the tournament. I hope you are all as proud of your team as I was of mine! I think everyone deserves some escapism and hope, in light of the political climate and scepticism surrounding the country at the moment. Pob hwyl, hogia!

Just had a read through the other sides rumour page and found it so incredibly infuriating.

Constant posts about England only performing well because of Henderson, Man of the match, best player in every game, the real captain etc. It's a joke!

Yes he's had a good tournament, full credit for decent performances that have certainly played a big part in the team success but not the best player in any of our matches. The best England players have been Trippier, Maguire, Kane, Lingaard and, in the last 2 games, Pickford.

I even read one outlandish post that England is basically Spurs, both Manchester teams and Liverpool. Wtf? They have 2 players only, the same as Leicester. One player (Arnold) won't feature again in the tournament and if we win he should not be entitled to call himself a world cup winner, same as Pope and Butland. Statistically, Everton (in the form of Pickford) have played more minutes this World Cup than Liverpools 2 players combined.

I'm all for supporting your own but that bias is quite remarkable.

I think both Trippier and Kane have been playing their hearts out in this world cup closely followed by Maguire.
I think it would be a tough call trying to point out an under achiever, Whilst being a little bit concerned regards the finishing that Sterling has shown us he does pose a big threat.
We are showing some great team spirit, but so are France and Belgium, I just hope we have enough to take us all the way.

So do I mate, i also think Stirling does a lot of running and never really a threat, buthey we have as good a chance as anyone, i would like to see us against Croatia in the next round Russia would be far too political for England, cheers.

Read a few posts now: With ref England, made up to reach the semi-finals, what I do not get though is why successive England Managers cannot get players to replicate their Club form. Until today Deli Alli compared with his own standards has been awful. We certainly need to improve our outfield general play. Finally does anyone else agree with me that Russia have to be on drugs.

Deli alli has had a poor season so it's not surprising he's struggling for England.

I've always said the most important player on the pitch is the goal keeper. If you're scoring a few goals but letting more in you don't get 3 points. Now flip it and you're saving more than you are scoring. You may get a point. Pickford has been brilliant and the goal he let in against Belgium. I think he got told make it look convincing and he's had everybody fooled. We never wanted to win that game so we had to lose. We couldn't get people booked we aren't dirty footballers. The finishing second due to fair play was never going to happen.

I bet those Liverpool comments last week about Pickford are biting our neighbours really hard on their big Red arses.

To be fair to Sterling, he has worked his socks off and made some really intelligent runs and got into some fantastic positions but has just been unlucky with his final touch or over run the ball. He is a whisker away from getting a few goals I believe. Ali has also started to show his capabilities and has also worked his socks off. When you think of past England teams and how they struggled to break down mediocre teams and were often overwhelmed by superior teams, then credit has to go to Southgate for having the bottle to play out from the back in the way they have and also to the younger players throughout the team who were given no chance by most people prior to the finals beginning.

Never rated Henderson and I still don't.

Son of Grumpy. I am with you mate but one game at a time. I believe we have the ability to get past Croatia but I honestly believe the World Cup will be won by either France or Belgium.

Pickford best in the world.

Steady on nsno - he had a couple of good games but I wouldn’t be calling him best in the world yet.

But isn’t it nice to see him playing so well on the big stage. Let’s hope we can keep him and build a squad around him sturdy in goal.

Well done Pickford my son!

Got a good laugh from this thread. I don't know why but I automatically assumed ya all were talking about the other Jordan and taking the piss! It wasn't until read WorburnBlues post till I realised it was Pickford :-)

It must of been WorcesterEFC's post above that had the other fella in my head. Yea, our Jordan must be worth a Bob or two now. What about the Jordan? Let's just say there are no more penalties for the second Jordan's sake.

degs our general play has been awful. Today against an average Team how many chances did Sterling miss, figgin Sunday league player wanting to walk the ball into the net. Play Russia or Croatia in the Semi and we will get hammered without A. Sorting our Defence out and B. Create general play chances.

Yes Pickford is having a brahmer of a Tournament, my concern would be as England Manager is how such a mediocre side as Sweden had so many chances and shots on target.

08 Jul 2018 12:01:28
ktf1950 I don't know which games you have been watching, but they are not the same ones as me. Our general play (in my opinion) has been quite superb. Our defenders have had the bottle to not hoof the ball out, but pass it across, forwards and backwards and have been in the main under control. Yes the odd mistake has happened, but this is new to us. Would you prefer the old style by playing perhaps Phil Jones as a traditional muscular hoof it out defender. or have Stones, Maguire and Trippier and Cole and Walker "getting rid" of the ball as soon as they are put under pressure? Because that's what we used to do and then the other team has the ball for loads of the game and you are chasing shadows. Yes I agree that at times it is nervous stuff. but effective and what other nations have done for years. I also think Sterling has been terribly unlucky and another time would have had quite a few goals and assists. Ali has struggled but is improving. Well we are comfortably in the semis and no other team has dominated us except perhaps Colunbia for a short period and Belgium when we put out a weakened team. I don't get why you think our play has been awful. I suspect our possession stats are very high and we can check that out maybe?

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Jul 2018 17:34:50
degsyp. Of course I would not wish to swap a back line that is effective. Our general play has not been consistent compared with our set pieces. Against a Team like Sweden they should not have been allowed out of their own half. Look at the stats for shots on target and the positions Swedish players were allowed to get into. I back my Country all the way same as I back my Club. Southgate (who I must admit has proved me wrong, I just didn't think he could do it but obviously his experience with these same players at U21 has helped a lot) will not allow them to become complacent but Croatia are the first real Team we are going to come up against (I do not count the Belgian game for obvious reasons) , we will need to press high and wide.

Can't help but for some reason find this stat amusing
The last team to beat a martinez side in a competitive game were Sunderland
Managed by a certain Sam allardyce
Shows how strange football can be.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

07 Jul 2018 20:15:09
A much maligned man Sam Allardyce yet in his one game in charge of England, every player played in his Club position and played to form. Our own Club were consistent under him, who knows what would have happened this coming season. We now have a proven successful knowledgeable DoF with top notch contacts teamed with a less than (so far) successful Premiership Coach. I always wish the best for my Team, I do however have reservations. Hopefully my pessmism will prove unfounded.

07 Jul 2018 20:53:51
Well if Sam was still in charge my season ticket money was going on renewing the bathroom. And yes consistently rubbish under him.
