Set pieces, just a shame are two full back are on the small side
We conceded less goals when Mason Holgate played full back, proven defender.

Signs last night, that perhaps Silva is at last realising his zonal setup system for this group of players does not work. Silva 'I will not talk about tactics' in interview. Charlie Adam of all people hit the nail on the head with Zouma who I have championed for a free defensive role (having seen him play as a sort of DM) , Adam said let Zouma attack the ball in the area. Perhaps Silva reads or has people that read these comments you never know.

07 Feb 2019 21:06:27
Zouma had a chance to attack the ball last night and decided not to bother. So Charlie Adam doesn't know what he's talking about.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Feb 2019 08:22:50
Probably knows more than me, don't know about you smit. Attack the ball in Adams context and my understanding means free from zonal marking for in my view our best CB, happens to be our best at bringing the ball out as well.

08 Feb 2019 15:12:05
Uran, we conceded a lot less goals when Seamus and Bainesy where guarding the post on the goal line under Moyes. Its not so much the size of the players as what they are doing in the defensive system. At the moment not much by the look of things.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Feb 2019 15:25:32
They are still supposed to try and head the ball DFS. our guys are just getting muddled and not moving to head it away.
I think Silva is just going to keep drilling it into them in the hope they take it in.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Feb 2019 16:30:24
Smit If you look at the free kick a city player feints to take the kick which Zouma reacted to by taking a stride towards where the kick was coming from, Silva then flighted the ball over his head to Laporte who Gomes didn’t track.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Feb 2019 17:37:05
Surely he should be waiting to see the ball kicked before making a decision.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Feb 2019 19:47:03
Your’re right in normal circumstances Smit but with all the attention-concerning conceding from set pieces he was probably over anxious.
Laporte was being marked by Gomes who is both slow in reaction and movement he couldn’t get his backside off the ground for a meaningful challenge.

Get mina back in.

07 Feb 2019 14:37:48
Despite a much improved performance, largely due to the greater effort put in by majority of the team, I still have concerns with Marco's selection and tactics.
Zonal marking has been more than fully covered on this site so little more to add.
Apart from selecting Walcott I felt the line up was much better.
What I can't get my head around is the lack of tactical awareness surrounding the substitutions. My thinking is that subs should be made in order to change the game in our favour. So having rightly dropped Sigurdsson and Richarlison MS brings them on and guess what they continued to be totally ineffective.
It would have been smarter to switch Bernard to AM and brought on Lookman and Tosun for Gomes and Walcott.
Seems hope springs eternal through the eyes of both Silva and Moshiri.

Lookman wasn't in the squad Smith but agree think there needs to be a plan b and as for Walcott if he starts on sat it will be a joke.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Feb 2019 17:25:20
Thanks Lee
Leaving Lookman, who has the ability to be a game changer, out of the squad only reinforces the point I was making.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Feb 2019 17:29:06
Lookman not in the Squad, yet does more in a 15 min cameo than Walcot does for 75 mins.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i agree mate..

07 Feb 2019 18:51:41
Lookman injured, Maybe? I think we will see him and Ricky on wings to use for counter attacking on Sat.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Feb 2019 11:46:10
Lookman should be on the bench but for once I agree with not starting him, not against city. If uninjured he needs to be there against Watford and starting imo.

Away from last nights game but a topic often bought up here is about giving our youth a chance and not loaning them out. Often of which I agree especially when of late our senior players have been pony. I would love large % the team to be youth, but only if good enough. Part of my point is this. are any of our youth put on loan ripping up the Championship or league 1? Vlasic is doing ok in Russia. But are they smashing it? I haven't seen anything to suggest they are sadly.

Thinking of it this way, would we as Everton fans want to buy youth players from a championship club, to play in our first team, if they have been doing 'ok' this season? No we would only want those who are the best in that league surely.

Please do put me right if some of our youth are playing rwally rwally well ha ha.

Joe Williams doing well, Henry not doing badly, will have to see how Evans and beni get on as they only just gone on loan.

I do rate Beni personally.

Decent piece on us from Phil mcnulty on the BBC. Just quick question for ed2. Phil suggests it may be time for brands to take over the running of the whole football side of the club. With the bad advice moshiri was getting and his lack of football knowledge, do you think this is a good idea to let brands control the whole football side? And, will it happen?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - As Director of Football BRands role is primarily to do with transfer policy and dealing with transfers. I am sure he would like to take control of the youth system as well but after that I am not so sure he would want to be dealing with the entire football side of the club - there would be many distractions which could weaken his main focus. Another option would be to have an Arsenal type set up where they have a DoF who is an administrator and a Technical Director (a Brands type role). So even though it is a good idea, it would need other changes to work. I don't see Mr Moshiri changing his advisor any time soon.}

07 Feb 2019 12:24:45
And mores the pity.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Feb 2019 12:28:43
Thanks ed. If moshiri keeps his advisor then it looks like we could be a club in turmoil for a long time.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The issue to me is Silva and the lop sided squad.}

07 Feb 2019 13:34:00
I agree on Silva and unbalanced Squad. If Jim White is to be believed, Silva is here for the long term. My hope is firstly, that things improve starting saturday, secondly if no improvement, my hope is Moshris' comment to White had a big if in it.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Moshiri will ceratinly not wanting to pay off another manager. The club are still paying most of the wages - around 80% - to him until this coming summer. And of course SA is still on the books. Regardless, if it is not working out for the club it is essential the situation is resolved - and if that means replacing him that needs to happen.}

07 Feb 2019 17:34:15
Horrendous situation. I love this Club but helpless. 80 percent! You mean to Sam or Koeman?

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Feb 2019 21:35:10
Koeman, if he got a job we had to supliment his wage to what he was on at us so he took Holland job for buttons and we pay him. I may be wrong but that's my take on it at the time.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Feb 2019 23:07:00
Forget about Koemans and Allardyces wages. The money is irrelevant compared to the wages we are paying to the players they bought in that don't fit in to our squad now.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I guess Everton has so much money it doesn’t matter.}

08 Feb 2019 08:26:21
As you say Ed, not how it works LOL.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Feb 2019 15:27:10

07 Feb 2019 10:35:35
We could also put Davies there another good game from the young lad.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Feb 2019 11:24:34
Davies is at his best when used as an attacking midfielder. When in a more defensive role he uses too many back passes. Did better than Sigurosson has done all year.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Feb 2019 12:21:07
Got to admit I was pleasantly surprised with Davies last night, I’ll hold my hands up and say I couldn’t see him cutting the mustard in that position but what do I know. Hope it continues, deserves a start at Watford now.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - totally gibbo..

07 Feb 2019 12:58:57
Tom did play well last night, i would still like to see Jimmy Mac given a run out.

Can someone one let me know why Walcott started the game he has been totally infective all season and last night he couldn't even complete a basic cross when he had space and time Or am I in the minority here.

Believable6 Unbelievable0

07 Feb 2019 11:25:47
Walcott was again useless.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Feb 2019 12:28:16
Nope you are right Walcot has been out of form for months. Mr Silva, like all Managers has his favourites. With Walcot on the right out of form, Ricky on the left falling over everytime there is a gust of wind, what chance do DCL and Tosun have.

Walcott to go to the south coast retirement home (southampton)
We have a squad with some quality in it, we just need to buy a spine with some leadership and steel.

We need a Jags type for DM, or McArthy without the sometimes lost the plot play. Immediate is to resolve this failure of a set piece system and RW.

As a Wolves fan in our first season back, would like to know how far you see us behind City.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Feb 2019 06:42:34
a good few years to be honest jet, look at there starting 11 last night, they had stirling and de bryne on the bench haha that's the difference mate they have a bench of players who would start for at least 16 of the other teams in the league. but having said that on the day you looked a better side than they did last night.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Feb 2019 07:04:55
I don't know about you Eds but I've not seen everton chase and put in a shift like that since the Liverpool game ok we lost but it's nice to see him drop his so called star players.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i was very happy with the industry we showed penysarn, im still not happy with the anal marking mate but that does not look like changing anytime soon..

07 Feb 2019 07:22:28
I couldn't go Johnny1989 but somewhat agree with lancerboy. I realise that City are among best in the World but nevertheless, yet again 26 games in a goal yet again from a set piece. Their second was not to much credit either a little bloke manages to go through two big lumps (second chance) , while they are stull glued to the ground. Silva interview, 'I don't want to talk about set pieces'. Obviously Mr Moshri believes Silva is still the messiah, no logic or evidence for that belief, so on we go. Yes they did put in a good shift, if we can concentrate and keep that up, we should be able to take it to Watford. Be very happy for 50 points this Season that is 17 from 36 to get.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Feb 2019 07:32:13
The marking as been bad all season Eds but let's face it mate that's Silva's trademark. Watford is going to be hard but bring them on.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Feb 2019 08:41:21
ducks wasnt having a go about people not going but sometimes i think stats are misleading so city had the ball more i would say we wer the better team bar zonal marking letting us down again, there second was a result of us piling forward looking for the equalizer.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Feb 2019 08:53:01
Wolves fans need not to turn into Southampton fans. Wait a few seasons a least before even judging yourselves in the premier league. Outside the top 6 is brutal. Yous are glaxeys away from the top 6 never mind city mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Feb 2019 11:19:26
Couldn’t have put it better Blue-tit. A typical naive comment from a dreamer. Should be asking how far are they off from breaking into top six before looking to bridge the gap to city.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Feb 2019 11:48:32
jet ski you'll know your getting close to the big boys when they start putting in bids for your players and pundits start with the he's too good for you and needs to move to a bigger club bollocks to unsettle the players.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Feb 2019 12:55:12
I fear his question will be answered in the summer when city come knocking for Neves, and the rest of the big teams start circling for their stars.
