Is townsend on drugs! He just said baines is not better than cole, baines as had a better season than him and he scores more goals and puts better crosses in!

Believable12 Unbelievable7

I have to agree Ashley cole is definitely in second place. I'd go further and say that not only is Baines as good a defender, but I don't remember (maybe I am wearing rose tinted glasses) Ashley cole being as dynamic and as creative as baines tbh. Townsend completely wrong IMHO. Jlaff

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Cole may just shade it defensively (Baines sometimes gets caught napping) but as a whole package I'd take Baines

Did andy townsend just say baines still isn't good enough to push out Ashley cole is he for real? Baines came on and he is absolute quality so confident if baines played for utd would cole get a look in I suspect not!

Believable12 Unbelievable5

Baines has been better for 2 seasons now no 1 left back is a no brainier I would even say baines is up there as one of the best in world football the way he is playing can't ever remember clubs having to stop a left back before

A lot has been said about the Fer deal/no deal. I do think the decision to abort was the right one, saying that I was gutted that our plan be didn't happen either.

Now if your view is a negative or positive one it's all subjective. One thing that isn't a matter of opinion is that our team need us for the second half of the season.

We have Mirallas back and will be fresher than most come the end of the season. Vic is on fire. Jelly will get goals. And all that good stuff with the added bonus of us still having the services of Felly and Baines. Honestly lads we will be feared and there will be a few teams from third down Watching what we are doing.

So less a good signing that we all craved we are still having a great season. Cheer on lads. Everton needs us

Just a quick note to all the fans moaning that we waited too late to gor for Fer.
We can't bid early because the likes of Fat Arry would have out bid us and offered more in wages. It didn't work out this time because of an unknown injury to the player. But people would be more annoyed if we kept bidding and then losing out to lower positioned clubs with more money than us. In our current situation the transfer policy of leaving it late is correct.

BlueStu1878

Believable2 Unbelievable7

How is it correct? We missed out on signing anyone aside from Stones, who by all accounts is one for the future. Your definition of correct is vastly different to mine.

Agree0 Disagree0

This is a fair point but where is plan b? If the tactic to avoid unwelcome attentions is to leave it late we will always run the risk of losing the player as we run out of time to negotiate.

The Board should be aware of any options and have the machine ready to spring plan be into action as soon as things go pear shaped. Some strategic thinking.

If we don't then we will always run the risk of losing our one and only option. {Ed025's Note - thats a fair point mate..

Agree0 Disagree0

Not sure if this is completely right Eds but weren't the majority of transfers done during the last 24/48 hrs? Isn't that usually the case?

It's not only Everton that wait till late in the window to try to do their business.

Secondly, I have seen a lot of comments on here critical of our scouting system etc. Why couldn't we get this or that player and so on. In particular I remember a comment relating to Sissoko at Newcastle. Someone raised the question 'what's wrong with our scouts? why couldn't we get him for only 2million? etc.

Well didn't we sign Cahill, Arteta, Pienaar, Coleman, Vellios, Gibson etc. for little or no money?
Clearly we have a scouting system that works, it might be worth remembering this before being so critical now! (and this is not trying to defend the board, chairman etc. before all the Billy-bashers start jumping down my throat! : )

aflm78

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on. I made that comment on an earlier thread completely agree. it's easy to forget. Jlaff

Agree0 Disagree0

Imo scouting European talent has been far less successful, only Pienaar (with Velios being a developing talent) amongst the players mentioned hadn't played in a UK league and can be rated as a top class player.
My concerns go back to the likes of Vadis Ofoe who almost everyone raved about and we very nearly signed but ran out of time in the Summer, suddenly doesn't figure in our plans 6 month's later?
I don't subscribe to the posts that say he's had a poor season so far because form can be temporary but class is permanent.
Would we have pursued Mirallas if he had suffered an injury ridden period whilst under evaluation?
Most people who have been involved in the game can identify if a player has got it or not very quickly.

Too many negative people reading too much into what the twente chairman has came out and said. I swear people just look for reasons to have ago at Bill and Davey, it's pretty simple guys It was made public that Leroy Fer had a dodgy knee which will undoubtedly result in less interest in him or any team who are interested in him will not pay what Twente value him at. This has obviously had affects on Twente and this is simply just a way of trying to hurt our credibility in return. Okay so sometimes we do make a meal of transfers and it's not always smooth sailing but we can't blame the club for being cautious with what little finances we do have. To believe that the board would enter an agreement based on funds they don't have is ridiculous, I know people are aloud to have their opinion but I'm sick of all the criticism and negativity! We didn't make any big signings in January, oh well get over it and get behind the club you claim to love!

SydneyBlue

Believable4 Unbelievable3

Peoples negativity comes from how we do are business, all the negativity comes from actions. if moyes signed his contract tomorrow that would be a positive and would give everyone a boost, so why hasn't he, this is were all the negativity comes from, the way we do are business. always too late in transfer Market, now moyes contract is there any reason why he shouldn't sign. negativity shouldn't be there, but it is ask y.

Agree0 Disagree0

FC Twente acted in a most unprofessional and underhand manner with respect to the Fer transfer. The selling club has an obligation to provide the buying club with the players full medical records. These were clearly not provided by FC Twente. I heard a Dutch journalist on the radio last week state that the people at FC Twente were annoyed that a 3rd party had tipped Everton off as to the severity of Fer's knee injury. It would now appear that he is trying to deflect the consequences of his actions onto EFC by trying to blacken our name. This is yet another totally unprofessional action that will hold little substance with most decent people within the game and will send out a clear message to other clubs that they should take great caution when entering into dealings with FC Twente.

im thinking if felli goes (if we don't get 4th) we will need to spend the whole of the 25-30m we receive on a cb, 2 midfielders and a pacey forward, then we could really challenge

Believable2 Unbelievable2

And the CEO Robert Elstone said at the AGM this week, that the 9-10mil we had this window, which he said was basically a bit of the TV money is available as well.

Should have around 35-40mil in total to spend, and hopefully with Moyes still in charge, that could mean 6 or 7 real quality players to sure up the squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

Or we could qualify for the champions league, keep Felly, aquire more money from league position and Europe. And improve our squad with players who will only play for the elite which we will be.

Hi all, Got to ask how has Anichebi gone from a hopeless footballer to a quality striker in the space of few months. Every part of his game has improved 10 fold. 5 goals in 8 games with 4 assists is top form for any striker. His says Jelavic has given him a lot of advise about the positions he should be taking up, I think with the fact that he is 100% fit is a big difference, as well as the fact he is starting to show a bit of maturity in his attitude and some of his comments he has made of late. All the sulking has stopped. Everybody questioned Moyes when he gave Anichebi a new contract but again Moyes show why he is still a top Manager. Think the goals has boosted his confidence so much he is starting to believe in himself which Moyes says what he needed to do to truly show how good he could be. So keep it up Victor and you can really help Everton get that 4th spot and become a star player for Everton for years to come. Wow what a difference in my attitude towards him, I wanted him out in the summer, as did nearly all Everton fans, so it shows in MOYES WE TRUST.

Dero ( Irish Blue )

Believable8 Unbelievable3

06 Feb 2013 09:33:24
he is now confident Dero, scoring goals and playing well has gave him that extra push that he needs, also injuries seem to have started easing off, hopefully with our praise and injury free he will become a top striker.

Just hope some fans will not start getting on Jelavic's back as he is low in confidence as it is and knocking the guy won't help.

I think Big Vis is going to haunt the man united defence as they are cack at the minute, bit like ours ha ha, I am predicting a great match with the score 4-4 again.

Good bet for tonight blues is Bainesee last goal for England, probably 16/1 and he may take the free kicks and any pens

Interesting comments from twente chairman, over the fer transfer saying we never had the money in the first place and we should be investigated, this seems extreme, but if you couple this with the els tone interview explaining the collapse of the deal, feel this some truth in this. no deal concerning everton is ever straight forward. can't be always a conspiracy story or bill baiting,

Agree0 Disagree0

Moyes signing a new deal would end all these theories.

Heisenberg

You could see the signs last season he was improving and staying fitter than he had done in recent years. I think he realised that for Everton fans if you show 100% commitment they will back you, soon as he started to work hard and show hunger the fans got behind him, in turn his confidence grew and he started taking risks and scoring a few.
This season he has carried on that form and has added something more. A FIRST TOUCH! That's where I thought he would struggle his touch was dreadful, but this season his hold up play and first touch is very good. Fair play to him and long may it continue

Elstone has said in a recent Q+A that the Fer money will be available to Moyes in the summer. Do you think we'll be back in for Fer or do you think Moyes will explore other options depending on final league position ed?

ToffeeMike {Ed025's Note - i think time will tell mike...it will depend on our finishing position..

Believable2 Unbelievable0

In response to ToffeeMike and as previously posted, I couidn't understand why we suddenly didn't fancy Vadis Ofoe six months after nearly signing him in the summer.
It puts into question whether our scouting policy is really sound in accessing players.
Whether Leroy Fer will figure in our plans in six months time, irrespective of proving his fitness, is therefore open to doubt.
Fancy Smith

Agree0 Disagree0

Truth was, Vadis was last chance saloon in the summer, he was effectively our 3rd choice midfielder, and that was with absolutely no money.

Come January we had a bit of money and looked at better targets (M'Vila and Fer), and by then Brugge were reluctant given they had sold a central midfielder anyway.

Agree0 Disagree0

He didn't want Odjidja-Ofow anymore because he's having a shocker of a season at Club Brugge, why would Moyes sign a player hopelessly out of form?

Agree0 Disagree0

Exactly the point I'm making, good players don't suddenly become bad players they may lose a little form from time to time but class is always permanent.

Agree0 Disagree0

Please enlighten me, who were the first and second choices that we tried to sign, on a very limited budget, in the summer?
