Its Bernard Matthews and he's replacing the half time pie with Turkey Drummers.

Has anyone noticed that no matter how bad things are. or even how good things are. all our posts get worse and worse and more conflicting and angry and just down during the closed season yet as the season approaches. we all start cheering up. Damn Everton, so addictive!

If we get Mina and Bernard over the line I'll be dancing on the ceiling by the time kick off comes.

Agree5 Disagree0

07 Aug 2018 02:37:27
Yeah I must say I was feeling really negative a week or so ago but now things are looking more promising.

If we do get Bernard in and a CB I think we will be fine this season. A CB is a must though. I'm not convinced on Mina tbh, in my opinion he is to slow and mistake prone.

Really unlikely but I would throw a big bid in for Koulibaly.

Agree3 Disagree0

07 Aug 2018 07:24:32
Koulibaly would be nice but I think he's just signed another contract so would be 70mill +.

Hey Ed 025 light at the end of the tunnel, do you reckon mate at last.

{Ed025's Note - i think its heading that way GB, we still need a CB as a priority but other than that im happy with our progress mate..

06 Aug 2018 20:52:22
Been on this site for years but bever actually put a comment up. If we got Bernard does anyone else think putting sig centre mid with Gueye and bernard number 10 would work. Surely be better than Schneiderlin.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - that would work for me mate..

06 Aug 2018 21:08:12
Siggy certainly has the engine, can retain the ball and can pick a pass. It could work.

Agree3 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 23:51:19
Would depend on the opposition but is certainly an option and the squad will have greater flexibility to change things up Walcott Richarlison Sigurdsson Bernard and Lookman mixing it up across those roles
Richarlison and Walcott can also play through the middle if Tosun struggles in a game
Exciting times 😍😍😍
Now we just need a CB or two.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 20:26:18
First post here so don't shoot me down too quick. But looking at how Bernard would fit at first glance I don't quite get it. But what if Gylfi dropped deeper alongside Gana and we deployed Bernard, Richarlison, Walcott behind Cenk? That's some counter attack right there.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - it certainly is CONE..

06 Aug 2018 21:01:54
I don't think we could predict who and where people will play. We have such an array of attacking threat.

Even up front. You have Cenk, Walcott and Ricky who can all play there.

Agree2 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 20:18:02
Apparently we are close to signing Bernard on a free from Shakhtar. IMO we don’t really need another winger, but he should be a massive upgrade on Bolasie so I can’t complain. If we can sign a CB (Lacaselles would be my choice) we would have had a great window.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i agree denver, but if we win 7-6 every game we wont complain.. :)

06 Aug 2018 20:39:46
Safest bet ever is betting the over for goals scored in any game we play haha.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 15:08:10
I only seem to see thumbs ups on posts currently, is this our way of curbing negativity or is there some error? 🤔.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

{Ed033's Note - no error, but if you want to be negative, i suppose you could moan about no thumbs down.

06 Aug 2018 20:16:27
Its only on phones I think ST, its normal on my laptop.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 23:53:35
Don’t want to moan just chuckled I couldn’t see the usual thumbs down.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 19:45:35
What do you think about going for mina and Lascelles? We clearly need 2 CB and I think they could be a great partnership both strong, quick, can play from the back and Lascelles is a leader.
Mina apparently returned from holiday and to Barcelona today so he will move soon just hope it's to the mighty toffees.
Newcastle players all rebelling and refusing to do media stuff due to unpaid bonus so Lascelles could be unsettled.
I think out of all CB linked they look the best 2 and the best partnership.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

06 Aug 2018 19:56:17
They're the two I want the most, they could form a great partnership and both got great sell on potential if we have to sell some day.
Offer Keane and 20m for Lascelles.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 19:57:10
Lascelles would be number one for me, then Either Mina or Mee as the second. Agree we need two.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 20:09:51
From what I have read we are going for Mina but then again if you believe what you read then so is every other man and his dog. We have supposedly a two man team of the best available in Brands and Silva, Brands I know has excellent contacts all over and is well in with one of the best agents around (apparently) . I also believe it was mainly Brands recommendation that we went for Silva, so far so good. What does baffle me is why our central defence was No 1 on the priority list. The other thing is we pay 40 mill for Richarleson (spelling) and don't seemingly flinch but then go for Mina and apparently flinch on paying the asking price. As I say baffling.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note -
It was not Brands recommendation.}

06 Aug 2018 20:51:37
I stand corrected Ed002, I thought I read a quote somewhere but obviously mistaken, Thank you. I will not ask but can but wonder.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I have probably mentioned it before, but it was Jorge Mendes - who would have submitted a bill.}

06 Aug 2018 19:02:59
Honestly think this Mina nonsense and a smokescreen by us. As it's being reported throughout it would appear that the player has no interest in joining us. For my money it's either Lascelles or Rojo or both.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

06 Aug 2018 18:16:30
Remember that while we do need someone to improve the team in the short term, signing sometime is a 3-5 year commitment with high financial costs. As we are finding out, signing the wrong player causes its own problems and can even be worse than not signing someone. Unlike the rest of us, Brands, Silva and the board have to be confident this is a guy we want here in 2022, not just will be help us best Wolves on Saturday.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

06 Aug 2018 19:15:33
The thing is coyb, we all know we need a center back. Or even 2 center backs. so not signing anyone is not an option. Not if we are to move forwards. This is why I don't subscribe to people getting excited when we are "getting rid" of players. The whole idea of building is to look forwards. Getting better players in. Just getting rid solves nothing without having replacements in that improve the squad. Williams might have deteriorated. Mori might have been injury prone. But both were 1st team players when fit and chosen. We have some youngsters coming through, but unless the manager thinks they are totally ready, he surely has to have replacements ready for those who leave? Otherwise, get rid of all the players now and start looking for better ones. What would happen if we did that? I understand that high earners with little contribution are a drain. but only if they are not playing. I believe Williams and Mori leaving has left us woefully short at the back. We simply must sign 2 center halves in my view. Just to stay at the same level as last season.

Agree1 Disagree1

06 Aug 2018 20:14:54
Agree with that COYB, why let Williams and Mori leave without having a solid back up for their departure. Fed up with your job then find another but for heavens sake don't jack your present job in without having a ready made replacement job in your back pocket. Makes sense to me, always has done.

Agree1 Disagree1

06 Aug 2018 21:16:56
Mori barely played last season so not having him isn't any different than last season, maybe Silva sees Pennington as an improvement on mori and Williams.
Williams didn't play the latter half of the season so he isn't missed either. Jags at his age is still a better option than Williams so letting Williams go is a simple decision.
I expect Silva let Mori go knowing we would get at least one in, and I am sure we will.
We would be pretty unlucky to bring someone in who was worse than Williams and mori.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - thats a fair point smit..

06 Aug 2018 22:20:51
and hopefully woill have to be very unlucky not to bring anyone in. We surely will?

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 16:46:45
Worth a punt on Danny Welbeck boys.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

06 Aug 2018 17:06:26
I think he's finished as a top flight goal scorer
Would do well at Leeds or sheff utd
Too much expectation at us let's face it.

Agree2 Disagree1

06 Aug 2018 17:26:27
At the right price, I’d take him. He can play anywhere across the front line.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 18:05:07
He has been so unlucky with injuries and obviously has quality. If he had a good run he would be great but can he stay fit?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - you can say that about every player degs but i understand that his injury record is not great, thats why the price will be important mate we must be careful that we are not lumbered with a crock..

06 Aug 2018 18:09:27
Again he's better than what we have and probably better than what we can attract from the continent too.

It's his last chance saloon after his injuries. He really needs to have a few years playing week in week out. Is he worth the risk?

Agree2 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 19:17:49
Of course Ed025. He would need a strenuous medical and a reasonable fee. Peter Reid is an example of another crock who joined us once! oh and Andy Gray. both for peanuts and both quality who had suffered with injuries.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - very true degsy..

06 Aug 2018 20:06:25
He is no improvement on our strikers
Niasse has scored and played more than him for 2 seasons
But this Bernard will be a fantastic signing for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 15:22:32
So the centre back nightmare is no closer to being sorted despite reports this morning. Nothing agreed with Barcelona or Mina apparently. Reality is anyone signed now will not be starting on Saturday so expect a high scoring game.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

06 Aug 2018 16:35:23
I would not be surprised if Mina does not sign to be honest. I just hope there are other deals in the pipeline that we don't know about.

Agree3 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 17:32:08
I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t sign either!
Why does it seem to take us an eternity to sign someone? It just goes on and on!

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed025's Note - its not as simple as you think griff mate..

06 Aug 2018 17:38:17
I know it’s not straight forward but plenty others teams seem to get it done a lot quicker! Or are we more thorough?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im not saying we are blameless on this front griff, but obtaining work permits and appeasing blood sucking agents is difficult and takes time mate, also when clubs are reluctant to let go they can make it very hard indeed..

06 Aug 2018 17:56:08
Don't like the fella in particular but I reckon in this instance Richard Keys is spot on.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 17:57:29
Griff it only seems to take longer than other clubs because we are constantly looking for news of Everton transfers. What we don't see are the rumours about west ham, man u buying someone until the deal is almost done.
We are all in the same boat mate.
Man u will be thinking how they haven't signed Alderweirald yet after being linked since last summer.
Sometimes we drag out feet but so do the other teams.

Agree2 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 18:08:22
The guy is holding out for the best deal with the best club he can find. Who can blame him? Our problem is we should have sorted this at least last season. well you all knew I would say that anyway. but it matters not if he signed a week ago or tomorrow. we all know we need at least 2 Center Halves. let's wait 2 more days and see what happens.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - but we were bringing in a new manager degs who would want his own players so to say it should have been sorted last season is idealistic to say the least mate...i am re-naming you...sir degsy of hindsight.. :)

06 Aug 2018 18:51:46
Why don’t you tell us what you think about our centre back situation Degsy?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i think he has mate..

06 Aug 2018 19:25:59
Flipping heck Ed025. I was saying this for the last couple of years. so its not really hindsight. Hindsight is when you say something after it has happened. call me Sir Degsy of getting on everyones nerves by going on about something. and then it happens! Please. how insulting!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - no insult intended degs, it will just be sir degs of pulford from now on mate..

06 Aug 2018 22:22:56
I was laughing when I typed Ed. No worries. Sometimes my posts appear to be stressed or even a bit conflicting when in fact I am laughing or quite chilled about things. No offence taken.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i thought not degs, your like me with a skin like a rhino mate.. :)

06 Aug 2018 12:46:41
Transfer window nightmares, Feel the reds could buy Fekir, and Lyon then spend it on Mina.
I think we have got to get the stadium built to increase the income and make us a better proposition to prospective signings.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

06 Aug 2018 10:24:00
Well if the mornings rumours are true, we will have soon signed half the Barcelona bench of defenders and added to that perhaps one or two of Manchester United defenders. I don't know all the details of FFP rules and won't ask Ed002 or any of the others to explain them. Just to say some balancing of books will be needed if all the rumours are true. Digne, Mina, Rojo, Smalling, Lindelof? What the?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

06 Aug 2018 10:54:04
I can’t see us signing more than 2 defenders Degs, probably more like one.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 11:10:36
I think the theory is Mina and one of the 3 from Man U. Long way still to go with Mina, just hope it gets done and United sign Auderweireld so we can sign one of the others. Who would you fancy?

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 11:43:08
Is Mina that good as a defender? Everyone's wetting themselves over him because he scored 3 goals in the world cup. I know he's tall, but is he really worth the hype (not to mention the fee) ?

Agree3 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 12:22:16
It's frankly about improving what we have. And Mina and all the others linked (yes even Smalling) are a massive improvement on Jags (the only senior left?
Even (worse case scenario if rumours to be believed) Jones Smalling are much better than we have.

It'd be pretty sad if we pulled out and missed the boat. Ended up going into the season with what we have.
Sorry but Kompany and Ramos aren't going to be wearing our colours next weekend. I'm not really sure what some fans want.

We've missed out on the young CBs with all the promise. Mostly acted like a stunned turtle last summer and watched the Maguirs and Mawsons etc. All get their big moves. Some for a lot less than most thought. Begs the question what was going on last year. Now we have dissenting voices moaning about Gibson etc who we've also now missed out on, apparently without showing any interest. Will only have ourselves to blame when we end up losing Mina at the last second to the French. And unable to secure a Man Utd player because of fans displeasure.

Keep it relative.

Agree0 Disagree2

06 Aug 2018 12:49:41
We will have to wait and see.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 14:46:53
It’s only relative if we were interested in signing Maguire, Mawson and Gibson. The club has its targets, which we aren’t privie to. So we only miss out if we tried and failed. And whilst we’re all going on about why we are leaving it until now to strengthen the defence, I seem to recall last summer we were all going on about replacing Lukaku.

Let’s give the club a break and hold back on the negativity until after the window shuts and give them every chance until then. Who knows, they might well get the targets that they want.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 15:17:45
What's said here is "banter and rumour"
Not truth and fact. Otherwise its just be a press release with no reply options.
I can remember reading a fair amount of? From you Toffee ace. Get off that soap box.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 15:56:49
We have been balancing the books. Williams, Klassen, Rooney, Mirralis all on big wages. Bolasie too will go.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 16:31:51
It might hurt some of our feelings but we have to remember where we are as a club and how we are perceived by potential players.

Honestly,
we are coming off the back of a disappointing season, we are under a new management team and we can't offer the prospect of European football.

We got Richarlison mainly because he has worked with Silva and likes his management. We got Digne after a couple of will he, won't he weeks and because he wants to play regular football and has been convinced of the project

Mina looks like he is holding out to see if Lyon will up their offer because they can offer European football. We might not think Lyon are a bigger club but they are playing in Europe. It's a big pull for a player rather than take a gamble of Everton achieving European football next season.

We have to realise these things and appreciate the conditions Silva and Brands are working with.

In the end I think Mina will come and I think we will get a couple more in as well. I agree with MTBTY that Mina, Lindeloff, Jones or Smalling will strengthen what we have. I think Richarlison and Digne have already improved our squad.

Let's see how it pans out by Thursday. I think we will be pleased but let's not think this is a easy job for Silva and Brands

COYB NSNO.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - fine post yet again bw..

06 Aug 2018 17:12:35
Haha myteam. It must be banter as I recall in one of your previous posts that you were going to tune out if the window doesn’t go your way. Well it still hasn’t because your still moaning. But your still hear so unfortunately that was banter too.

And for the record every time anyone comments on hear, including you, is effectively getting on a soap box.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 17:13:58
I wouldn’t disagree with most of that except please not Jones he would not improve us!

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 07:55:25
Danny Rose would be open to a move now he has slipped down the pecking order at Spurs, he's a good left back worth a punt maybe.

Believable1 Unbelievable6

06 Aug 2018 07:59:50
Now we Digne I can't see this happening. I'd be targeting the 6 and 8 positions. Fingers crossed we get Mina over the line and maybe another CB.

Agree5 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 08:13:24
I hope we do get Mina. He’s a big strong no messing defender, good in the air and can play it out. Oh yeah, he’s also quick too.

Add to that a box to box midfielder and a pacey striker who’s a bit of a menace in the box and I’m one happy Toffee ace.

Agree4 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 10:05:40
I’d love Nzonzi and get rid of snide’s and hopefully a goal scorer that we haven’t been linked with to get us all excited because we didn’t see it coming COYB.

Seems to be taking a bit of shape now.
Pickford Keane Mina Digne Coleman seems a decent back 4. Lindelof would be a steal if we got him on loan -Baines with Robinson next year and Kenny plus very young Portugal u21 keeper seems to have core of defence settled for few years.

I think garbutt Browning and Galloway should hopefully move on permanently.

Schneiderlin besic Davies jmac gueye baningime - too many especially as I think one more will come in. I think besic or Schneiderlin will go and baningime out on loan.

Vlasic and Sandro will also go I think.

Lindelof or Smalling, buy Batshuayi and loan Loftus-Cheek would be perfect for me

Can't wait now!

Believable4 Unbelievable0

06 Aug 2018 06:34:10
Still got a way to go but getting there. Fingers crossed we can do it all before Thursday
I think Bolasie will also go but abroad so doesn't have to have before Thursday.
Getting rid of highly paid earners such as Rooney, Williams, Miralles, Klassen great business.
Well done so far Marcel and Marco but keep your feet on the accelerator until all done.
