I know there is a big thing about macca signing a new deal, what about naisy? Last year of his contract next season, hope its something we look at in the summer, along with kev

{Ed025's Note - i hope we sign him up soon swan, he could become hot property mate..

What a great problem for RM to have: a squad with players good enough (ability and attitude) to make real competition for places AND enough to allow players to be rested/rotated without diminishing the overall team. I just hope that we can keep everyone in the squad content AND that we can also give our talented youngsters a good opportunity to develop and play.

Just looked at the Everton v Wolfsburg fixture on UEFA website and squads of both teams listed.
As Sid rightly posted our squad only lists 24 players after Duffy sale.

{Ed025's Note - sids always right ted..

Ed025: thanks, but I'm not always right - just ask my family ;-)
However, for items of fact rather than opinion, I'll check the accuracy against official websites from UEFA, the Premier League, the clubs themselves, etc. I don't just rely on what's regurgitated by the media - and I especially don't trust the vast majority of social media. It's not difficult - I just wish every journo would also check their stories for accuracy by making a few simple checks.

{Ed025's Note - i do too sid..and appreciate your help on these matters mate..cheers

Yeah, fair play Sid. You are the Oracle when it comes to the rule book mate. Even though sometimes it's a hard read. It must be done to sort the wheat from the chaff so to speak.

One thing that someone else might have noticed is that our registered list of under-21 Premier League players doesn't include Steven Kinsella, the Irish whizzkid who joined our academy as a scholar this summer.
All of the other scholars (and the under-21 players now on pro contracts) are on that list.
Does anyone know what's happened?

Can someone make up some rumours please re late loan signings - I'm missing the thrill post window closing! :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - they should open the window every monday, and close it every friday latch..

Ed025: they had to open the windows at Goodison all this week to get rid of the stink caused by our appalling defending against Chelsea ;-)

{Ed025's Note - they were paint fumes from the mural sid.. :)

I quite like the idea of a sin-bin being used for yellow-card offences. That way, the opposing team gets an immediate and clear advantage in the match rather than just other teams later on due to the offending player eventually being suspended for subsequent matches.
Also, two "innocuous" yellow cards would not automatically mean a red card - the referee could give a straight red card and send off the player if the offence (or series of offences) are serious enough OR could give a second yellow card and sin-bin the player again.
Of course, if a goalkeeper was sin-binned, that leads to an issue: could the backup keeper come on - albeit as a temporary substitute for another (an outfield) player, so that the team is still down to 10 players. Then, once the sin-bin period is completed, the first-choice keeper and subbed outfield player would return - and the backup keeper would go back to the sub's bench and the team would be back to 11 players.
Hmmm - it's starting to sound way too complicated when there's a specialised position like goalkeeper. On reflection, sin bins might work in other sports, but the goalkeeper scenario kills it for football imho.
Anyone got a better idea?

The sin bin is used in ice hockey and appears to work well. I am unsure what they do when the Keeper is sin binned but perhaps football could follow a similar rule. I think the sin bin is a good idea Sid.

Sid think putting an outfield player in goal while keeper is sin binned would be a better idea. If your going to punish the offending side then punish them good idea though mate.

Similar to rugby, if a front row player (specialist) is sin binned and there is a scrum then another front row can come on without counting as a sub, this could be the answer

Banter please ed cheers mate, just wondering are FIFA and UEFA ever going to put the number of subs you can bring on up to 4 or 5 I just think 3 is ridiculous in this day and age, I think it would make the game more interesting and more tactical I know people will argue it will only favour the rich clubs more but I disagree I think it will work evenly for both teams and it would also make the game a bit more interesting especially with the amount of games teams have to play these days.It would also make the starting eleven in each team work harder as they know there not safe after 3 subs have been made just a thought blues would love to hear your opinion on this.

{Ed025's Note - i dont know if it would make much difference stef to be honest..

One thing I wouldn't want in football - and I accept that the OP isn't advocating it - would be a substituted player being able to come back into the same match as a substitute for another player themselves. In my view, once a player has been substituted that's it - he's done with that match.
But the idea of letting more than 3 (in fact all 7 or whatever) of the named substitutes be used might have some merit.
