Thanks for the link - what memories! We played great football back then. Half the team were 21 or under (some still in their teens) and the older players were top quality internationals. Some were big incoming transfers, but others were home grown. They worked their socks off - defending as a team - and attacked with pace and skill in numbers. They outplayed the then reigning champions who had players of the calibre of Best, Law and Charlton. Apart from a couple of positions, our team contained the players that won us the league title a few years later. An all-ticket crowd of 65,000 as well. Where has it all gone wrong? Once a blue, always a blue!

not been on here in a while, got to say i'm liking the whole new account system, stops the impersonators
anyway, we're one game away from wembley and I was wondering what team you would all play vs Wigan? I'd go for:
--------Howard/Mucha---------
---Neville-Duffy-Distin-Baines---
Coleman-Gibson-Fellaini-Pienaar
--------Mirallas-Jelavic---------
BENCH: Springthorpe/Mucha, Heitinga, Oviedo, Vellios, Osman, Hitzlsperger, Anichebe
Baring in mind Howard could still be out and it's looking like Jagielka will probably miss the game as well.

The more likely squad will be
Howard/Mucha
Colman Heitinga Distin Baines
Mirrales Gibson Osman Pienarr
Fellaini
Jelly
I just hope Heitinga comes out and shows is why he was player of the year last season
Agree0

He's not good against pacey and strong, powerful players is Heitinga, like Benteke and Kone which is slightly worrying for me against Wigan.
Agree0
Disagree0
Mmm not a bad team Fluffy, but I don't like the idea of Fellaini behind Jelavic, as Fellaini up front normally results in us hoofing the ball up to him, and we're much better if we play that fluent attacking football we saw at the start of the season.

West Ham owners David Gold and David Sullivan injected £35m of their personal wealth to underwrite losses and fund player purchases following their relegation to the Championship in 2011.
Full story: Daily Telegraph
Bill and Board. where's our injection of 'personal wealth'? Mine is in my season ticket.

They probably lent the club money with the proviso of repayment with a tidy interest rate after the club recieved it`s `parachute payment` from the Premier league.

To be fair, Bill has given every penny he can to EFC. THE problem is he hasn't got much.

I think Big Vic should start against Wigan on Saturday in place of Jela! Anyone agree?
Believable9
Unbelievable9
Jela needs competition and someone alongside him and Big Vic is not the man to do that, it is Mirallas who should play with him it gives us tecnichal ability (excuse my poor spelling) in Jelavic plus pace and skills in Mirallas.
Agree0
Disagree0
Jelavic and technical ability in the same sentence? Is that the very definition of an oxymoron, because he has zero ability whatsoever aside from his predatory finishes and even they have gone lately
Agree0
Disagree0
Id like to see mirallas uptop with jelavic, move coleman to right wing and play heitinga at right back and draft in duffy alongside distin anyhow I expect nothing less than a win and another game away from a trophy.

The person who replied and didn't leave a name needs to read a book and understand what the term 'technical ability' means. Technical ability is being able to carry out a gameplan and to be skilled in the mechanics of a specific game. You have just completely contradicted yourslef poster with no name because predatory instincts and finishing are indeed mechanics of the game. Besides from that, Jelavic is also great at creating space, holding the ball up and being able to play off the last man and make runs behind the defence as he is not blessed with lightning pace. To answer the OP's question, no I think we should stick with Jela and play Mirallas just behind him, with Fellaini dropping deep and Osman on the right.

Erm, you've contradicted yourself Bitter by misunderstanding the meaning of technical ability. Running into, and creating space does not require technical ability, indeed a scottish 3rd divison player can do that with ease. Holding the ball up, same thing really, any half decent player can hold the ball up, Andy Carroll can do that and he's hardly blessed with technical ability. The runs he makes, he's more often than not offside, doesn't require technical ability. All he has going for him, or had going for him, is scoring goals and that requires swinging your boot towards the ball. Hardly 'technical' is it. So in response I've not contradicted myself, anyone can swing a boot at a ball and get lucky being in the right place at the right time. The goals he got last season were in clusters of 2 goals in 3 or 4 games, maybe? It would be interesting to know just how many games he has actually scored in.
Agree0
Disagree0
And Bitter, please don't question my intellect. I've read more books than you've had hot dinners. I'm more than twice your age and have been a season ticket holder for twice as long as you've been alive. I know a player when I see one and Jelavic is a fraud with limited ability.

id drop jela and play miralles upfront
Agree0
Disagree0
I haven't contradicted myself at all as holding the ball up and making runs into space are mechanics of the game. I tell you what, type into google 'technical ability definition' and see what comes up. If a player didn't make runs into space then they'd be stuck in the same place all game! Of course it's technical ability! You think Van Persie scores all them goals cause he can just kick the ball well? Get a grip. I'm not having a go but it's fans like you that really irritate me by disrespecting the players and constantly undermining them, no wonder Jela has no confidence. If you think you could do a better job than him then go and tell Davey to sign you up. By the way, I really don't see the need to bring age into this discussion?
BitterBlue
Agree0
Disagree0
My understanding of technical ability and yours differs vastly then Bitter. Does falling over and diving like a little girl require technical ability, and running into an offside position continuously like a headless chicken qualify as ability of any sort? Because that's all he does at present.
I always thought technical ability had something to do with the player's technique and ability. And it's hardly contradictory stating he has none aside from, and there's the clue right there, aside from. predatory finishing.
Gameplan, more than likely, is to stay onside and score goals as often as possible. He does neither very well lately does he? He's a fraud and has been found out at this level. IF he comes good then I will be more than happy to eat a large portion of humble pie. I always had you down as one of the more sensible posters Bitter, despite your age, but clearly you haven't taken a blind bit of notice of what was written.

Oh, and Bitter your assumption that I get on players' backs and 'disrespect' them couldn't be further from the truth. If they wear the royal blue shirt I'll support them, but it doesn't mean I have to like them as players, it proves counter productive in the long term.
