The current situation at our great club is quite simply breathtaking.4 people deserve recognition for the transformation:
1. David Moyes - steadied the ship and built the foundations for where we are now.
2. Mr Moshiri - for breezing into our club without the big fanfare and ridiculous statements of intent. haut his money where his mouth is - in the right way.
3. Ronald Koeman - for being a legend of the game and believing in what our club has to offer and not making a knee jerk reaction to the squad he inherited but ttime to build for the future.
4. Mr Bill Kenwright - for all the above and tolerating all the abuse while maintaining his efforts to steer the right direction. I salute you sir!

Gonna be one hell of a season!

{Ed025's Note - except for the moyes bit thats an excellent post nev..

05 Jul 2017 23:15:34
Credit where it's due Ed, I know Moyes left a bad taste in the mouth when he left but Nev has a valid point. Moyes did steady a rapidly sinking ship and gave us our pride back. For all his faults he did a good job under difficult circumstances, it's just a shame he left the way he did.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i dont do forgiveness RIB.. :)

05 Jul 2017 23:39:11
Bitter and twisted to the last love it Ed 25. I'm still bitter about us being the big losers after Heysel. So many dreams and possibilities lost in one night.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i know mate, i still believe we could have won the european cup with that side..

05 Jul 2017 23:39:53
It's not about forgiveness Ed, I acknowledge Moyes ****** us over and I can't forgive him for that either but Nev has a very valid point when he says Moyes put down the foundations for the stability we now appear to have.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - my take on it RIB is that we dragged him from obscurity at preston and gave him the chance to manage one of the biggest clubs in england, we also furnished him with one of the top salaries in the country and in the end he shat on us from a great height, i dont think we owe him anything mate..

05 Jul 2017 23:52:39
Great post and I agree on all counts, in particular with Bill. I'm made up with the way things are going for us long suffering fans, but I'm also really pleased for Kenwroght personally as he has had some undeserved criticism over the years. As much as moyes left under a bad cloud, he did bring us from the abyss to a respectable place and I believe he deserves immense credit for that. We played some great football too under him!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - and some right royal crap mate..

05 Jul 2017 23:59:14
Ha, yes indeed Ed! I can't remember seeing that through my blue tinted specs though!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - some of it was dire pierrre but there were a couple of high spots i suppose, never against the big boys though..

05 Jul 2017 23:59:26
You also make very valid points Ed, guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Who'd have thought Moyes would be Marmite?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i think at the end most fans wanted him to go RIB, he done ok but could not move us to that next level but maybe that was down to lack of funds as well mate..

06 Jul 2017 08:32:16
Moyes served his purpose and did well for us on the resources he had so I will acknowledge that. Unfortunately he's like the management version on Lukaku great but rubbish against the top sides
He did steady the ship though, problem is all the good work he had done and respect he earned he destroyed with the way he handled his switch to Man U and then by trying to poach our players!
If he hadn't done that I would have agreed with all of Nevs excellent post ☺️.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jul 2017 07:49:21
I'm with ed on Moyes. We stagnated for the last 6 years with him. His constant knife at gun fight mentality was disgraceful. Any manager with aspiration wouldn't talk like this.

He lowered Everton fans expectations to keep himself in a job. Can you imagine anyone else at the big clubs getting away with saying things like that.

Give me a Koeman any day.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i just felt like the light at the end of the tunnel had been switched off john, we were going nowhere under his stewardship mate..

06 Jul 2017 10:47:41
I know Ed. Can you imagine Royle or Kendall dampening expectations whatever the budget?

It's no surprise we won trophies with those two but none with Moyes.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2017 22:46:09
ED025 totally respect everything you say, but your love for Everton is clear. Are the other Eds impressed with us? Especially ED002?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - some of the other eds have praised our efforts duaney, ED002 is not really a big football fan mate..

05 Jul 2017 22:52:22
For someone not a fan his knowledge is amazing.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - tell me about it ray...if you only knew the people he knows and meets you would not believe it mate..

05 Jul 2017 23:01:17
ED025 I really don't know how old you are but stick with me lol. My first clear memory was the classic 4-4 draw with Liverpool in the FA Cup. Is this the best place we have been in since then?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im 59 duaney and have been a blue all my life mate, this is a very promising looking side with the potential to be very good, they cant compare yet to the mid 80,s side when we had the likes of steven, bracewell, reid and sheedy though, and strikers like latchford, sharpe and lineacre, not forgetting big nev, i just missed out on the harvey kendall, ball era but they were incredible, we all have our favourite teams in different era,s but for me that 80,s side was special, im sure mike and grumpy along with other more senior posters will have a different view and remember dixie and the golden vision mate..

05 Jul 2017 23:32:41
I'm 35 now and I remember beating Forest 4-0 and finishing 3rd or 4th in the league but even that is a bit sketchy lol. The team that excited me the most is when we had Kanchelskis and Limpar as our wide men and legends like Ferguson and Speed. How did we let that team slip away so easily?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - lack of investment duaney..

05 Jul 2017 23:43:03
Such a shame. Until Ronaldo arrived Kanchelskis was the most exciting right winger/ forward of the Premiership era.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - he was special mate..

05 Jul 2017 23:56:19
My first match was a 4-3 win over Brighton, so I've been spoilt over the years! Like you Ed, have seen some great players wear the blue shirt. One player who always sticks in my mind, and I know he was past his best, was Norman Whiteside. What a player he was.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i could not take to norman after he broke my heart in 85 at wembley mate..

06 Jul 2017 07:01:07
I'm 29, my first proper Everton memory is the F. A. cup win in 95 (I do feel like I have a vague recollection of the Great Escape in 94 but I was only 6) . I challenge anyone to have a worst first match though. The first time I went to Goodison we got stuffed 5-1 by Norwich. bloody Efan Ekoku!

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jul 2017 08:37:16
Duaney I saw big Norman going into the royal hospital in Belfast last year I shouted to him what about that flukey goal in 85 stopped using doing the treble he just burst into fits of laughter.

06 Jul 2017 10:11:25
Born in '69, from Dorset, first posters on my wall were Latchford when he scored the 30 in a season. First Everton game was away to Southampton at The Dell, Alan Ball, was in the Saints side if I remember correctly. But the 80's I do remember. first Wembley Game was the Merseyside Milk cup final, before we won the '84 FA Cup. I also saw two Charity Sheilds (Vinny Samways! ) First Goodison game was much later, unfortunately when Smith was in charge. but I was there for Moyes first game (Fulham) . never heard an atmosphere like that when he walked out pre-game. But watching us win the Cup Winners Cup (on TV) was something else.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i was lucky enough to be in rotterdam rich..great night mate..

05 Jul 2017 20:44:18
i think we have replaced lakakus goals already. Too dependent on him. I would prefer sigurtson to Barkley - I think he is a better player and provides more assists. I think mo besic will either go or be loaned out (if he stays he won't get a look in with jmac Davies Barry gaeye and hopefully dowell) . Sounds harsh but Lennon should move on too - he is at end of career and should move where will get a game.

Really hope we give the youth a go this season - I think signings are great so far but lookman and Calvern Lewis deserve a game rather than Rooney in my opinion. I would take giroud though.

Ramirez giroud lookman and Calvert Lewis would be my preferred forwards.

Out: naisse, Lennon, besic, jags, Barkley? Jmac

In: giroud sigertson left back + lookman dowell Calvert Lewis hollgate and Davis getting game time.

Hi Ed 025 what's your take on this £60mill deal we have with this Chinese Bank, the letter in the Echo seems to think its a good idea, cheers mate GuernseyBlue.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i dont really dabble in the finance side of things GB, but on the face of it it looks like a good move to tap into the chinese market which could come in handy when we start the new stadium mate..

05 Jul 2017 19:40:01
Thanks Ed don't understand all the finance etc sure the powers that be at the Club are well Au Fai, cheers mate GuernseyBlue.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2017 21:13:28
My understanding (I am not a finance person) is that it is "a line of credit". In other words Everton can borrow up to 60M pounds at any time without going through a lengthy approval process. They can pay back at any time and it is revolving. If Everton borrow the full 60M and then pay it back they immediately have a credit of 60M to borrow again if they need it. This means that they can act very quickly e. g. if a player comes available they can immediately bid for him or they can borrow from the fund on a temporary basis if they have problems with cash flow. Good thing for Everton, the Chinese bank which I believe is not very well known in the UK presumably gets some publicity.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - cheers mike..

It'll be interesting to see how we perform during pre season, Koeman had a moan last year because we were only 70% fit. I would expect it to be different this time around.

Hi Eds,

Are any of you privy to information on Adama Traore at Boro?

I think he's got endless potential and in a better team than Villa or Boro, i think he would destroy teams down either flank.

Swapping the likes of Mirallas/ Lennon for him, would be clever business in my eyes and still a young whipper-snapper.

Cheers.

Makes a refreshing change getting business done early. And the quality of the signings so far look impressive. Can't wait to see the final squad and I'm really looking forward to the start of the new season. One Q - would it matter much financially if Rom and Ross decide to stay?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

05 Jul 2017 21:11:38
I think financially it doesn't but it's time Rom moved on. He is good player but by the looks of it we will have plenty more good players. You can't have your star player slating the club season after season - what message is that for all the talent in the youth - glad to see back of him. Just pay that ramirez blows him out the water. Ross is the same for me - don't think he will get more pay / game time at spurs. I can't figure out why he wants to leave but again very disrespectful. Ultimately though - he isn't consistently good enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2017 13:42:43
Rooney by the wkend apparently what's everybodys thoughts on this would be a decent addition would help the young players massive.

Agree0 Disagree1

05 Jul 2017 15:15:00
I don't understand the statement he will help the youngsters.

They are doing fine with the people at the club already and we are bringing players through without his help.

It will bring publicity but that's about it. I said below if we we're just getting him then I'd be gutted and wonder what the club's real ambitions are but luckily they are buying and investing and he comes to us as a bit of a side show.

I'm more excited at seeing Olyekuru in a years time.

Agree1 Disagree2

05 Jul 2017 13:46:34
I will love this to happen.

Agree0 Disagree1

05 Jul 2017 21:11:03
If Rooney comes - where does this leave Calvert Lewis and lookman. I presume ramirez will be main front man. Happy if giroud comes but I think games Rooney would play should be shared with lookman / Calvert Lewis - they need to play.

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Jul 2017 13:00:09
I think a good name for the new stadium would be The Noahs Ark Stadium as we seem to bring players in 2 x 2.

05 Jul 2017 12:01:49
Right so Rooney rejoins Everton and people keep using the term "fan pleaser" but I'm 99.9% certain that this one doesn't please me. I'm looking at this objectively and I can see this going badly!

He's won loads of trophies, he's a worldwide family household name, it's a bit of a love story, he's a role model for youngsters and he will work his nuts off for the team. Completely agree.

He's getting old, he costs a fortune in wages, he broke every single Everton heart and do you want a role model to be someone who rubbish on us? Someone who sets an example like that? He might try his best for the team but how good is his best.

I don't even think he will get in the squad. Silly move bringing him back.

Of course he will score goals and I will celebrate them as the rest of you do but I just don't think I want him in an Everton shirt again. He hasn't earned the right. He needs to come out with a statement that's heartfelt and I need to see and feel how much he wants this move to even start to justify this move!

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed025's Note - i have said before jonesy..hes marmite..some love him and some dont but im leaving my judgement until he actually wears the shirt mate..

05 Jul 2017 12:37:39
If we were just getting Rooney I would be gutted because he is not good enough for a team with top four aspirations.

However, with Giroud and Sandro plus Klaasan and Barkley/ Sig he'll make a nice addition to the bench and to get a bit of publicity.

He'll get plenty of cup games under his belt and games against Huddersfield and such but he is not going to light up the place like the others we have signed.

Anyone thinking we are getting a top class player is living in dream land.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2017 17:38:14
For all the trophies he has won, one trophy that eludes him is one for Everton, rest assured he will be busting a gut to rectify it.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2017 17:39:49
A lot of people thought Gareth Barry was washed up when he signed for Everton, Rooney has got a few years on him, Paul Power and Richard Gough, there's still life in the guy yet.

Agree2 Disagree0

05 Jul 2017 17:48:04
Totally different position. He's not being brought in to sit in the middle or the back.

Agree0 Disagree1

05 Jul 2017 19:32:35
No he's bought to be advanced forward so with Gaye, Schneiderin, Davies, Klassen etc in the middle, he will be higher up the pitch with less ground to cover than his younger days when coming from midfield to attack.

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Jul 2017 21:20:27
he has been dropped by Man U. Dropped by England. He is 31 going on 42. Are we getting other teams cast offs or are we setting the new tone in getting the prime cuts now. It's a no from me!

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2017 22:16:46
Baz we don't accept that kind of performance from Barkley and we wouldn't expect it from Rooney. Ron doesn't accept stationary players.

I'm not saying he doesn't bring anything to the squad I'm just not blind to the player he is now and for the past two years.

It is not the Rooney of the past.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2017 11:46:29
Hope we get that baba Rahman in the lukaku deal and martina can cover till Seamus is back.
Reports of a Rooney loan deal paying half his wages?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

05 Jul 2017 11:34:32
I'm loving all these signings. However, I hope the likes of Holgate, Davies, Lookman and Calvert Lewin are not pushed to the wayside. Barry should not get a look in. Jags and Williams on shaky ground. Lukaku and Barkley will be more than likely gone. What is our best side. If we sign Giroud, does he play up front with Ramirez, then Sigurddson who I think we will sign. What of our midfield. Omg I have changed my mind so many times. We have waited a long time for this and hopefully we will be not just challenging for a top 4 but adding a trophy or 2 as well!

Believable2 Unbelievable0

05 Jul 2017 11:59:06
mad isn't it Oz, I was happy two days ago but now Rooney and Giroud, wtf, give me Syg too then i'm done, more than happy with that, ye know what we will probably get another 5 in if you go by the links on the net ha ha, Thank you Bill for finding us Mr Moshiri we have a gem, Koppites in meltdown, Hammers in meltdown, Gunners because of Giroud link, someone pinch me.

What a summer so far! I thought after the arrivals of Sandro and Keane we might have a quiet week, but no, Rooney, Giroud and now Raul Jimenez linked! Too much excitement, and we have the whole Barkley/ Lukaku dramas to come lol.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

05 Jul 2017 10:10:18
If Rooney signs he gets full support. I tend to disregard the wages aspect. Top level football is unreal. If you take the view he's on a free and top earner. That's cheaper than a £10m fee and say 70 grand per week.
He'll be rejuvinated and remotivated. He needs to forget England and focus on us.
At this rate with these signings my fantasy football picks looking tricky.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed025's Note - i get your point tedster even though your math is a bit suspect mate.. :)

05 Jul 2017 10:46:18
could look at it this way if it makes everyone happy, we will be paying 15 million for him and he will be on 96k a week, sounds better and exactly the same as 250,000k a week for 2 years as a freebie

or even better don't worry about the mone :)

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2017 09:59:45

haven't been this excited since i was 10 on Christmas morning (50 now) .

Picture this: 1st day of the new season. huge roar from the crowd when Rooney runs on the pitch (and he's only warming up! ) .

He comes on in the 66th minute, first touch he nutmegs the defender, scoops the ball up in his right foot and smashes it into the back of the net.

The crowd roars more that even when Hibbert scored his only Everton goal.

YES, YES, YES my wife screams (hash't done that for a while either) . COYB.

05 Jul 2017 08:07:36

Just picture the first home game of the season, Rooney warms up to come on as a substitute. The crowd roar, the likes of which haven't heard since bug Dunc's testimonial.

He comes on to an even bigger roar from the crowd.

His first touch breaks the sound barrier, but wait he running onto a ball, takes it past one, then another, draws his right foot back and smashed it into the back of the net.

COYB.

We all have mixed emotions around rooney. Personally I don't have any hard feelings about him leaving when he did. In all honesty we probably needed it more than he did. The kissing the badge thing wound me up but these things happen. He still brings his boys to watch us when he can and definitely still loves the club. On top of that, his impact on the youngsters in the club cannot be underestimated.

Agree3 Disagree0

05 Jul 2017 08:38:14
Or you could argue that he left us won everything for essentially the biggest club in world football, he could have gone and played in the US or china or probably a fair few other teams but he will tell the younger players being a blue never leaves you and despite all the money and glory you will always want to play one more game for Everton no matter where your career takes you.

Agree2 Disagree0

05 Jul 2017 09:03:19
Yes he broke are hearts yes we all no that but at the end off the day he left a club who struggled for a club he won everything at plus set records not just at club level internatinal to i am happy to take him back we had the likes of kone cleaverly niasse an so on on the bench an to get rid of them an bring the likes of rooney in how can anyone complain Plus i garentee when he is finished at everton he wil be ryr in the coaching role for the youth an ya can't ask for a better youth i think he is a role model and has so much experiance i for one think its a great move 👍🏻.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i hope your right callum mate..

05 Jul 2017 10:29:21
I don't even think its the past that is the problem as I for one am over him leaving when he did, my reason for not wanting him is purely based on footballing issues, as a club we can do better than bringing Wayne in as I'm sure his wages aren't going to be drastically short of what he is on at Utd, then there is the issue of were will he play? Is he coming to do what in essence he is doing at United for a lot more money, and that's sitting on the bench, I think not, therefore who drops out to make room for him? I would rather have Giroud as he is a different type of forward than what we already have, he is a target man who can bring players into play around him, midfielders like Klassen and Bolasie and even Sandro.
I also feel Giroud is a better option for a lone striker role when needed, he gives you the route 1 option, which Pickford is capable of executing with his kicking.
I can't fault Wayne's success in scoring and trophies, but that was then and this is now.
We are a different club now with ambitions for the future, and the past is best left were it is, behind us.

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Jul 2017 11:36:53
I think everyone is forgetting he left us when we were in big dept, we needed to sell him to be able to move forward, DM was then able to get new player and we did very well because of it, he was young and who cam blame a player leaving to do what he's done, now if he's over the hill and has nothing to offer I'm sure RK wouldn't be interested, he will add quality, let's be honest he had one of the best strikers in the world to compete against, who do you think Jose would have picked out of lukaku and Zlatan he would of gone with Zlatan so we really can't judge on someone who has spent a lot of time sat on the bench, your confidence drops but I do no he gives every thing and will help against the top teams.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2017 17:34:30
Svenny, Callum, well put guys, your absolutely correct. Our bench last season was weak, and looking at some of the names you mentioned it's a wonder we finished as high as we did.

I can't believe some people moaning about Rooney coming back, he will get a lot fitter under Jan K, he will play for the shirt, massive influence as pure winner, sat behind Giroud no brainer, forget his wages Blues, forget everything about how much people cost too, Mr Moshiri is here now, finally Glyfi and that's me done.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

05 Jul 2017 07:52:29
Rom: "at city they signed player after player. Bam bam bam. They showed their ambition. "

They also got rid of players that didn't fit in to their new way of thinking. Seems we are too.

Well are we all ready for another few days of shopping? Rooney and Giroud next. More to follow.

I've run out of places to pinch and my wildest dreams have become tame as reality is so much better!

Take a look at the badge we have on our shirt and look how bright it shines. A giant club well and truly alive and kicking.

Any info on Moussa Dembele of Celtic. Already scored in pre-season. I'd like him to join.

{Ed025's Note - i think a lot will depend on our pursuit of giroud mowfee, of course it would be nice to get both but we are not greedy..or are we.. :)

If Rom does go then Dembele and Giroud would be perfect. If Rom stays then I suppose I will have to settle for 1 of them!

I would love for Rooney to come back, but there's no way in hell paying 250,000 a week for him is a good move. I'm afraid that type of gap in wages could lead to squad unrest. But then again if he celebrates scoring a winner against the dark side it'll be well worth it 😊.

As Ed2 says forget the money, makes life easier, he will step up, get fitter, and play for the jersey.

I wish I could honestly say I thought Rooney coming back would be a good thing for us, but I just don't know. The wages could be an issue but if he comes on a free, then the overall cost of the reported 2-year contract is reasonable for someone with his on-field pedigree. It's the equivalent of a £16 million fee and wages of £100k/ week.

In the market at the moment, that seems like the going rate for average players. I agree with Denver that the rest of the squad may not see it like that and it could be disruptive. I also worry about how Lookman, Davies, Dowell, DCL will get opportunities in the first team, which they deserve.

Add in rumours about Giroud, who will only come if he'll get more game time than at Arsenal, Bolasie coming back from injury, and Kev. Presumably, Ross must be going? It'll be tough for those youngsters to develop with the competition for first team places. Still, it should be tough and I'd much rather be in this position than having a squad with no depth.

My only concern is it needs to be tough for Rooney to get in this team as well. No free passes based on reputation - he's got to be fit and hungry. My worry is he doesn't look either at the moment, but that could be due to factors at Man Utd.

Given the way business has been done so far, we have to trust the men in charge - they seem to have a plan this time! So lock up your grannies, close the casinos and welcome him back if he comes.

Dropped by Man Utd who had awful season. Dropped by England - we are now after the prime cuts not the scraps.

I don't want to be a downer, I am made up with all of the signings so far, and I genuinely believe that we will be a better team come the start of the season. However, my main worry is that some of the promising youngsters may be left behind. I understand the fact that to win things and make CL we need players ready now, but I would rather see Davies play than Rooney for an example.

I genuinely believe that we have a golden generation coming through, and while I don't want most of them to play every game I would at least like to see a few on the bench developing their play with the first team.

This is the way forward for us in the future, as for every Sandro we sign, the likes of Arsenal get a Lacazette.

Depending on how far we go in the cups and Europa league we could have a lot of games, everybody will get there chance, I'm not overly impressed with Rooney coming back but I do feel he will give it is all, going to be a good season I think so let's just enjoy the ride and trust the manager to do his stuff 😀.

{Ed025's Note - im all for that smeg mate..

To be honest and not greedy. With Coleman still out and Baines in my opinion not able to complete a full season, we need players at least on a par and perhaps even able to compete with them in those positions. Haven't seen or heard a word on this so far.

{Ed025's Note - im sure we will be looking to address those issues BCT and im expecting at least one more defender to come in mate..

Looks like the fans are split on Rooney returning but just picture him as a replacement for Valencia or Kone and he would massively improve our squad. Then if he still has it, he will play and if not, then he will warm the bench.
Forget about the money aspect.

Just wondering. If Galloway, Browning and Mcgeedy join Sunderland, and with the rest of the Everton old guard already there, are Sunderland obliged to run out to the z cars theme now lol.
