Come on guys less of the moyes bashin, I think there's a really chance he can keep them up!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

05 Jan 2014 22:53:39
Ed do you thing ince would be a good sign for everton? And do you think he would be expensive?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i do think he could be a good signing ben, my guess would be he would cost around £8m mate..

05 Jan 2014 23:08:48
isnt his contract up in six months ed? can't be that much considering cardiff nearly had him for 6m

Mike-Ox Long

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed003's Note - It is Mike,Cardiff nearly had him for £8m the fee B'pool have accepted already off Swansea seems to be £5m,I think he might be a busy lad in the next few days.}

Right, I just got told he's on a free ed? Is that in the summer or now?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed003's Note - He is not on a free he will command a fee this window unless he decides to take the option of signing a pre contract with a foreign club(Ajax) compensation would still need to be paid because of his age.}

05 Jan 2014 23:36:27
so we haven't bid ed or we probably have just the papers and that don't know? and I know I said I didn't want him and I still don't but what has happened with mcgeady I remember reading on multiple sites we were in deep talks?

Mike-Ox Long

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed003's Note - I really don't know if you've bid or not Mike I'm just updating from the Blackpool side of things and speculation is you have,Like I said I think he will be a busy lad whether you want him or not lol.}

That makes more sense. If we were to sign him do you think we would still go for Mcgeady?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed003's Note - Don't know Ben,just seen an article Monaco have an interest in Tom aswell,nothing to confirm that here yet mind.}

I don't usually judge players because when we sign them they often turn out to be class but I just don't fancy these two. I watch a lot of the European leagues, the wingers around, there is such talent out there. Fear we are going down the British route just for sake of it. But what do I know.

Agree0 Disagree0

Re bringing in British or non-British players, I understand that we have to be careful about the number on non-homegrown players (that are aged over 21) in our registered 25-man squad. Players aged under 21 - so that even includes Barkley - don't have to be named in the 25-man squad and we can select whoever we like under that age. So, apparently, bringing in non-homegrown players like Lukaku and Deulofeu isn't a problem since they're both under 21.
I guess that means in theory we could have a squad/team full of non-homegrown players on loan from foreign clubs as long as they're mostly under 21. Not a great way to take the club forward - and it clearly won't happen under RM even though he's making judicious use of the loan system - but an interesting possibility under the current rules.

Hope Roberto starts playing jela up tops with lukuka and what a midfield of McCarthy Barkley ince Barry and super kev. That shows time for osman to go

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Aaaaannnd with that team / formation a back three which would leave Coleman and Baines as bystanders. Hmmmm. I think the weekend showed its not yet time foe ossiebto go. Just needs to be used in a different way, off the bench and can really only cut it in behind the striker where defensive mobility is not as much of a concern

Agree0 Disagree0

Our strength this season has come from our system. The 4 attacking players, the two holding midfielders, the full backs bombing forward. When analysing our games the phrase 'in between the lines' is used often. Your not going to have that with a rigid 442. Barkley would have to play wide or in a deeper midfield role (no thanks) and we would have to sacrifice one of Barry and McCarthy if he didn't play on the wing. All to get jelavic in? Not for me, our system should stay the same and if we are chasing it we go two up top. But until the. don't change what's not broken.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - good points there oli..

Hi everyone, been away a while but have been reading regular. Is it just me who is a bit wary of too many loan deals coming in? I'm all for a couple to push us on but to go with 4 or 5 (if we get more) would have me worried that at the end of the season we would be woefully short when they went back. Looking at the spine of our team with Stones, Mcarthy, Barkley and if we could find the money for Lukaku it would be a really solid foundation to build a team on. All young with bags of raw talent. A side built around that spine could go on to great things. COYFBB!! Happy new year by the way everyone

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - nice to hear from you paddo, loans are important to clubs like ours mate who are on a limited budget...try before you buy if you like.. there could be nothing worse than blowing your budget on someone who turns out to be a dud, or just does,nt fit..

Of course they are Ed, but too many can be a bad thing. If a quarter of the team are just loanees then where does that leave us come May? Try before you buy is all sell and good if it's part of the deal when the loan is thrashed out but Lukaku and Delefou will almost certainly go back if we got someone like Marone he would as well. Just not sure actually borrowing players with no chance to buy is the right thing to do? That being said we are doing fantastically well and I'm not knocking the manager over it, I'm just looking ahead and at the bigger picture

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i know what you mean mate, but signing even romelu and gerard has given us not only a boost in playing staff, but also a good amount of time to search for full time replacements, well thats my take on it paddo..

I'm with you 100% on it Ed, it's been a master stroke from Martinez and I'm really pleased with it, it's just a lot of posters here are saying let's get another 2 loans in etc and to me that's too many. We need to be building around the players we already have and you're right when you say it's given us breathing space to try and fill those positions I just feel that that is enough though we don't want a successful season only for a quarter of the team to disappear come May. Maybe I'm wrong like but it just niggles at me and makes me worry a bit (thats assuming we do get more loans in obviously )

Agree0 Disagree0

I get what you're saying paddock but if those 2 other loan players came in and got us Champions league then it would mean a higher calibre of players would want to come to us when the loanees return to their clubs also would mean more tv money and more prize money and also there will not be the same players available in January as at the end of the season so a couple more loan signing to plug any gaps that might appear while saving the money on permanent buys in the summer. If we don't make champs league then we don't want to have bought permanent players with a smaller income. Just my opinion

Has anyone bought the Sun newspaper today? If so can you tell me what the holiday token word is please. Thanks.

Sydney!

Token 2 is "RACE" Syd. Have you done a Sun Holiday before mate, and if so was it any good? We have done a couple in Devon and Dorset and have been pleasantly surprised.

betty swollocks
Thanks mate. Yes I have done several Sun holidays. Each peak season weekend holiday costing just £80 (excluding spending money), I am doing three this year. May, June & July. Take my own food and booze and the holiday is pretty cheap. Well, the kids cost a fortune in the arcades, but other than that I buy pints of coke all night and top it up with a little JD :)

This is from man utds pages had me laughing 05 Jan 2014 19:54:35
This is tongue in cheek, but seeing Big Sam try his hardest to get sacked and pick up £5mil, it got me thinking:

Setting - Pub in Glasgow

SAF - Thanks for coming Dave, I want to look after you and I know a way you can make a fortune for a few months of hell, interested?

Moyes - Sure am Alex, what do you have in mind?

SAF - I can get you a 6 year contract at Utd?

Moyes - Wow, isn't it a bit too big a job for me, not sure I could do it justice?

SAF - Don't worry mate, you can't do the job, truth is nobody can, the team is rubbish, I'm leaving a royal mess. Anyone taking the job will fail, so why not you? Are you a good actor?

Moyes - I once was second pick for the bad guy in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, I'm pretty good! But you just romped the league?

SAF - Let me spell it out, you have no credentials, but you are of the same mould mentally as me and whilst a reach, most fans will give you support if I back you publicly. I can swing a 6 year deal for you, no problem. The team has been built on a house of cards, and it is about to blow a hurricane.

Moyes - Ok, what next.

SAF - You do what you do best, play negative football. The fans will gradually get fed up and you will be sacked.

Moyes - I will be hated.

SAF - Don't worry I will be there in the crowd so I get some of the flak for picking you (chuckle). The team will lose more than we win with your approach Dave, trust me.

Moyes - So I don't have to lie, just act like I know what I'm doing?

SAF - Exactly, do your stuff, get the sack, get 6 years worth of money up front. Job done.

Moyes - I like the sound of that, how do you win Alex, there is always something in it for you?

SAF - Basically I don't want to be found out, or have my legacy damaged by a manager that will blow the whistle on the fact I have done bugger all for the past 3 years. A top manager like Klopp would blow the whistle and besides, they may actually sort it out eventually, which could mean I'm forgotten!

Moyes - Done deal mate, count me in. I'll do my best and bring mop head with me, that should spell out my intentions, haha.

SAF - That's the spirit, good luck mate - you'll be sacked by March if you do what you do naturally.

Seen it too on their pages mate, its a cracker.

I know some people don't get off with laughing at other teams and to tell the truth I used to be one of them. Not any more though, Whenever I need a laugh I always pop over to Utd's pages, always cheers me up.

This wouldn't have happened if Gollum treated us respectfully, I used to have a small soft spot for Utd, admittedly only because the Koppites hated them, not anymore though, I actually want the Reds to beat them, dillsuional fans who are on the verge of being brought back down to earth, WE ARE MAN UTD, get over yourself will ye.

I may be a little premature but I think Man Utd's bubble may have burst. If you look through the squad there is nobody there to be feared really, other than perhaps RVP when fit. The pundits keep including them as a top 4 team but they are nowhere near on current form. They struggled to attract the big name players in the summer and I think they will in January. Will be interesting to see what all their glory hunting fans do if they keep loosing

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'd be inclined to say shrek, especially given his form this season. But I agree with what you're saying. just sit back and enjoy :-)

Jelavic is now talking about trying to impress RM and stay at Everton (ssn). He wants to force his way into the team and score lots of goals for us. I think RM needs to listen to him and only sell him after (and if) we have a better replacement lined up. We are already down in numbers with injuries to Del boy and Kone, so we need proven signings (forwards) to come in before we release the likes of Jelavic.

There has been a debate regarding Jelavic's Everton future, particularly after yesterdays performance. I have heard some people saying that we should keep him, others disagreeing saying we should sell him. My view is that, if we can get the right striker at the right price, that we should offer Jelavic out on loan. Then the club could review his position in the squad in the summer after having a more thorough evaluation of the player whilst not damaging his world cup hopes. There is no need to rush and sell and the player, and the availability to loan may open more possibilities for the player.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

05 Jan 2014 13:41:25
We may have to sell to buy mate, jelly has had more chances to shine than anyone has ever been given at this club, if we get a few bob then he needs to go now so we can get someone in as soon as possible.

Agree0 Disagree0

I know he has had many, many chances but somewhere in him there is real quality, it's just getting it out of him. Plus, it may ease the pressure to get strikers in next season, more so if we get another striker in on loan. RM has reiterated that there is no need to sell in order to buy. Morata in on loan and jelavic out on loan would be ideal in my eyes.(optimistic, I know)

Agree0 Disagree0

Hasn't RM already said that Jelavic won't be going out on loan - he'll only move on a permanent basis and only if we can get a suitable replacement?
Re World Cup selection - while I can understand Heitinga needing playing time (because Dutch manager van Gaal apparently won't select players not in their respective clubs' first team), I think Jelavic might be in a different situation with Croatia.
Besides, if RM felt he could rotate Lukaku and Jelavic (as starters or as subs during matches) - and Jelavic knew this - then I can imagine Jelavic staying.

Sad news this morning regarding the death of Eusebio. A footballing legend - top scorer at the 1966 World Cup and I believe played at Goodison during the tournament. Top player and top man who like Pele who did much to raise awareness on racism. He'll be sadly missed. RIP.

His performance in the 1966 World Cup quarter final at Goodison Park where he personally dragged Portugal from a 0-3 deficit against surprise package North Korea to a 5-3 victory with four goals himself was, as I recall from childhood memories of grainy black and white television, absolutely enthralling.

{Ed025's Note - he was baron..

For the first time in years, I don't feel we have to go out in January and panick buy so to speak. A central midfielder to cover Gibson's injury and another striker if Jelly is sold. But if nothing gets done this month then I don't think it would be bad. We got cover at almost every position and good youngsters coming through. It's looking pretty good. COYB!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree with you mostly, however I do feel that a DM is urgently needed. Osman does not have defensive qualities to hack that position and Barkley is so good in the more advanced midfield position, and is probably not yet suitable for the responsibilities of DM. I think it is of upmost importance that we get adequate cover for McCarthy and Barry. I think we should go all out to get either M'vila or Fernando.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree that, especially in the absence of Gibson, we do need cover for Barry and McCarthy - both of whom have shone so far.
Other players who've been tried in the defensive midfield pairing are stop-gaps: Osman is surely better suited to a role in the three-man attacking midfield we play behind the centre forward, while Heitinga prefers playing at centre back. None of our U21 or U18 players look ready yet - that's why players like Lundstram are getting experience on loan at lower-division clubs.
There's surely no way - especially with injuries, suspensions, and wanting/needing to rotate/rest players - that Barry and McCarthy can play every match (Premier League and, hopefully, a long & successful FA Cup run) for the rest of the season.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jan 2014 10:41:13
I always like to think we have 2 players for each position, I think it's needed to compete for top 4.
So here goes.

Howard, Robles

Coleman, 2nd needed

Jags, distin, stones, alcaraz (might get another year from distin)

Baines, Oviedo

McCarthy, Barry, Gibson another needed

Mirrallas, Delefeou, Naismith, piennar

Barkley, Osman (1 more yr from him)

Lukaku, jelavic or replacement

Hopefully in a ideal world we get champs league football and sign Lukaku and Delefeou if not Roberto to work his magic again. In addition to the players above we got youth players coming through which I have bit git a great deal if knowledge of who would fit in what positions. So would welcome people's feedback on this. Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Isn't Hibbert our backup to Coleman?

Agree0 Disagree0

As much as hibbo is blue through and through and I think he is one of the best defenders in one in ones. I don't think he will fit in to our playing style getting fwd but that's just my opinion. But I did say I thought Coleman might struggle under RM because I thought he was more direct and not technics good in possession so just shows what I know. But in fairness Coleman has improved his raw talent in every aspect if his game

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with this statement fully. In relation to back-up for Coleman, I think an understudy who can contribute to the team defensively and in attack whilst also fitting into the style of play. I do think this can and should be left until the summer to address, but if Coleman gets injured our attack would be blunted significantly.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jan 2014 16:56:59
stones can play right back if needed or browning for a while, hibbert won't offer much going forward but he is a solid defender, love him to retire here and think he will

Mike-Ox Long

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree about having two players for each position. Having some players who can effectively cover more than one position is useful, but I imagine that RM prefers players who are specialists in their best position.
In addition - even though we usually play with just one out-and-out centre forward - I believe that the squad needs three (perhaps even four) centre forwards vying for selection so as to cover injuries and rotation in that very demanding lone-striker position.
I'd also suggest that a squad needs a third choice goalkeeper who could be selected with confidence should the need arise. This would probably be the U21 goalkeeper.
I imagine that our registered squad would not have to be the maximum number allowed of 25 - not least because we'd have a fair sprinkling of players under 21 (like Barkley plus loanees like Lukaku and Deulofeu) and these don't have to named in the 25.
In fact, the more of our U18 and U21 players that come though the better it will be the the homegrown quota. Add in a few "foreign" diamonds and we should be well equipped.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jan 2014 10:28:18
All the suggestions about LB not being in the squad he injured his back in training. But all the talk of not depending on LB just shows how far we have come under RM.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Genuine competition for places and players having confidence: two reasons why performances and results have been good, which gets us into a virtuous circle of results generating confidence, etc., etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jan 2014 09:06:17
Really pleased with the performance today. Ok it might only have been QPR and I was worried after the first 10 mins or so that they would "park the bus" all game. But after Ross' great first strike and Jelly's double we looked really comfortable as the game went on. The penalty was unlucky - a great chip which was unlucky to strike the bar and come back out. Had that gone in it would have brought the house down.

My point is this however. How good is Seamus Coleman this season? Yes we saw his potential last year under Moyes but at the time people were applauding Leighton - not only for his battle with Ashley Cole at LB for England but also for his goals; decisive penalties and pin point accurate free kicks. This season however Seamus has really caught the eye. He has matured tremendously under Roberto and is currently scoring goals for fun. Am I right in saying he now has the best scoring record (after yesterday's peach of a 4th) of any RB in Europe? And this for a player who cost no more than 60k as a prospect. I know it's early days, but could he finish as top scorer this season? How much is his current value?
Just a thought.
Onwards and upwards. COYB.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hi Davey, totally agree about Seamus, what a player! As for your question about him being the highest scoring RB in Europe, he's actually the highest scoring defender in all of Europe's leading leagues!

IR(&K)IT

Agree0 Disagree0

I've no doubt that RM and the coaching staff work with Coleman on his defensive duties, but it's clear that encouraging his attacking play within the team structure is a major feature of his development. It must also be great for the player to know that he can drive forward - and shoot at goal - with such confidence knowing that the team shape won't leave us overly exposed by his adventurous runs.

It was a disappointing afternoon, we were well beaten today. We were beat by a far better team. I thought Everton were excellent. Even though they made lots of changes, they were strong all over and made life very difficult for us. They've got some real quality throughout their squad and it really showed today. We struggled to live with them at times. Their movement, their passing, their attacking play - it was top class. Harry - Thank for the honesty that others simply do not not want to share. Thank You. I know Mushy, you'd think that we still played under Moyes. I mean, Kidderminster were shown before the Mighty Blues, something doesn't smell right.

Agreed, I do find it disrespectful, but then I smile to myself and remember they can go f### themselves. We are everton, and for me this has been one of my most enjoyable seasons for years. Great football, a good manager and I actually like not being talked about in a way. I have lots more to show off about.

That was the worst tv coverage I have ever seen Mush, don't mean just for us either mate it was appaling producing and presenters, ITV hang you head in shame for an amateurish bit of producing on the such a high profile cup competition, I wish tv or Sly had this instead of ITV, absolute crap

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree. ITV are out of their depth - just going for the potential shocks irrespective of the quality if any being played. Bitter Blue's absolutely correct. How can they justify showing Kidderminster's 0-0 before Everton.

At this rate, with the season we are having under RM there will be no need for all the fake takeover rumours being leaked around season ticket renewal time.
