What does AMC mean?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Attacking midfield centre

Agree0 Disagree0

It mean attacking midfield center, people should be saying CAM

Agree0 Disagree0

Why? AMC is just as valid as CAM as is AMR and AML to RAM and LAM.

Agree0 Disagree0

"Why? AMC is just as valid as CAM as is AMR and AML to RAM and LAM. "

well yes it is, but I think more people would understand if you said CAM

The only letters that matter EFC

Agree0 Disagree0

Why not ACM
we all know cm is centre mid so ACM seem self explanitory

After watching last nights game unless Martinez learns how to set the team up to defend better we will have some exciting games but we won't win enough to finish in Europe come the end of the season
We held the line too high and did not close down quick enough in midfield but looked good going forward

S1878

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Don't believe what Rodney Marsh says. It doesn't matter who Ronaldo plays against he's got pace to pull away from any defence whether you have a high line or not.

The thing is we have quick defenders and are perfect for a high defensive line.

The problem last night in the first half was we were not intense enough and didn't read their attacking play quick enough plus we gave the ball away too much in the wrong areas.

Much better in the second half and we learned from our mistakes. Don't worry we're getting there.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rodney Marsh?

Sorry mate but I don't know what you mean, but I take your points on board apart from the pace of our centre halves, while they are not slow they are far from speed merchants if we are to play this way we need at least 1 maybe 2 CH's in the Ratclif mould

been watchin the blackburn v derby match this will hughes looks very promising only 18 very good center midfileder can see him costing anymore than 5m snap him up martinez!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Was just coming on here to enquire if we had any interest in Will Hughs. Looks like a brilliant young player. Derby are supposedly valueing him at around 10 million. Him, Barkley and Fellaini would be a great midfield three imo, with Mirralas, Pienaar/Deuleflou and Kone/Jelevic up front in a 4-3-3 formation.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well there is where you're wrong he could easily cost more than £5million as he has attracted interest from Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal many big Premier league clubs and there was a rumour a while back that even Barcelona were sending scouts to see him play. He is a top prospect and English meaning his transfer value would have inflated. Most young promising English prospects transfer value increases when a host of clubs of this stature have expressed an interest in him.

Why does everyone forget about gibson? He's a great player but everyone leaves him out of their teams and whenever we are linked with a midfielder everyone just throws gibson away and say the new midfielder would start every games, gibson's a great player and is one of our best ever buys but loads of evertonians just seem to forget he plays for us

They can run riot, but it doesn't necessarily mean they'll score goals. Simple logic.

Just been looking at our games to be televised so far this season. 4 out of 5 games to be on the box are at home, which is poor, is there rules to say so many games need to be home or away each season per club.
If anyone can shed any light on this. Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why is it poor

Agree0 Disagree0

Because we get to see home games but when more away games on tv it gives a chance to see more games.

Agree0 Disagree0

But it gives the fans from the clubs coming to goodison to be able to view on tv, we will have more away games than home games on tv later in the season

Agree0 Disagree0

Wath about us who haven't got season tickets, i'd rather watch home on tv than away, better chance of winnin for a start

Just a thought about all those posting that we should bring in a £20-£25 million striker if we had funds because of, for example, transferring Fellaini.
Firstly, we are not in the UEFA Champions League, which is a massive pulling point for that calibre of player.
Secondly, we don't pay the £100K-plus weekly wages that wealthier clubs do.
Thirdly, other clubs who don't tick points one and two might have other things to attract players - such as being in London. (I'm thinking about Tottenham attracting some expensive players this transfer window - even if they might lose Bale. )
Our club can address point one (by playing well) and point two (by sorting out the investment). In that case, point three becomes unimportant - we've attracted top players in the past and could do so again if we were doing well on and off the field.

You can't help but think the tournament organisers got the result they wanted, it certainly didn't look a straight game.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think you are right real v galaxy and the winners v the blues only one winner in this and its another villereal situation 80% of los angeles are of hispanic or spanish origin so to have a local or spanish team in the final is paramount for US TV so we were never going to get any dubious decisions we played well enough but thought ronaldo was offside and as sharpy said in commentary ronaldo played the ball forward to ozil who was in an offside position so its 3rd place for us then not bad for the team with the least finanses

Agree0 Disagree0

Actually it won't be 3rd place for us, we are playing in the 5th/6th place play off down to more dubious american tournament logic, la galaxy are now playing in the 3rd/4th place play off

I'm not disappointed with the performance last night/ this morning, and I think we held our own pretty well, and Mirallas even taught Ronaldo a thing or two, but I am pretty disappointed at Martinez. Against Juve, we went out with a 3-4-3 formation and it was brilliant. The passing looked fluid, everyone always had an option and we controlled the game for large periods of time. We went out and attacked, trying to beat them at their own game. Last night was far to reminiscent of Moyes' tactics. How on earth could anyone believe that Heitinga and Naismith are good enough to play against Real Madrid? he was only playing them because of the extra defensive cover they offer. Their defense isn't that good. Marcelo is easy to expose, Pepe is woeful and Arbeloa is 10x weaker than Carvajal. If we had someone like Oviedo or Deulofeu on the left wing, with Mirallas right, we could have torn them apart. I would have much rather we lost 3-0 but went for it and made a name for ourselves, than tried to be defensive from the off and only lose 2-1. Just my opinion. As I said, I'm not trying to be doom and gloom, I was actually quite happy with the overall performance, just disappointed with the tactics.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally disagree with you AB1878 mate. It was not about beating Real M, it was about giving the squad game time and trying different formations. Do you really think RM would of put that team out if it had been a champions league game?. He has learned from that game especially that Heitinga is crap and needs to go and that our CB's are not comfortable enough to come out of defence with the ball.

Agree0 Disagree0

I understand that pre-season is about experimenting and testing, but I don't think this was the game to do it in. He can experiment as much as he likes against Vienna, Blackburn, Accrington and Betis because winning or losing them games means nothing, but can you imagine the confidence boost the team would get by beating Real Madrid? I think that that game should have been the one they treated seriously and really gone for, not one to try out tactics I could have told you wouldn't work.

Agree0 Disagree0

AB I'm not getting you.

First Naismith got our assist for the goal and like many who watched the game and pre-season, he's been one of the biggest highlights.

Secondly, you don't make a name for yourself getting beat 3-0 against anyone. You then mention in your reply to Paul EFC what a boost we would get by beat RM?! Confusing.

Finally, I don't think the tactics were negative at all. I've stated in another post that for the last 11 years all we have ever done against top opposition is to play two banks of four in our own half and hoof the ball up field. Last night it was good attacking, passing football.

For better refereeing we might have even won.

I thought felli was unplayable last night I hope moyes does not unsettle him great header hit the post and a shot in the back of net disallowed. and why was distins goal ruled out. for long period of time esp in first half we dominated real Madrid we just short of a cutting edge and we made too many changes but the 2nd half Madrid had to bring on kaka to start closing us down. anyway take pride in a very good fast efc team. ps Naismith very good last night. tp.

If this would have been a competitive game then I would be on here ranting and raving at the blind referee and Linesman at robbing us of a deserved victory.

It may only be a friendly but you can't help feel excited at this NEW look Everton team.

A bit nave in the first half defensively but the fact we didn't play most of the match with two banks of four in our own half tells you the difference this new manager is making to this team.

Players want the ball and want to move with the ball instead of the hoof or panicked pass you used to get with the previous regime and you can see the confidence working with the ball in training is giving the players.

The biggest thing though for me is the managers message. There's no "trying to bridge the gap" or
"making the best of a small squad", it's all good positive talk and when speaking about his players and team performance and it's all what THEY'VE done well and how the TEAM can improve.

Not wanting to get too ahead of ourselves but it's all positive stuff at the moment and it's rubbing off on most Evertonians!

IRWT COYB

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree JonUnns.

Realistically there was an obvious gulf in the two teams, but we can see what Roberto is trying to do. And it's very exciting!

I don't wish to talk disrespectfully of DMs work over the last 11 years as it was great work taking this giant from relegation maybes into European maybes. But if this kind of football takes to a different level then I'm glad United took him from us.

Under Roberto we have a far more positive approach to the game, which our strikers will only benefit from.

One slightly negative observation I had from the game was that if we had a 23 million pound new signing playing like Fellaini did, would you think it was money well spent?

Not sure I would for that amount.

Anyway onwards and upwards

It has been mentioned a few times now (even by Sharpie on the commentary) that we were playing with a back 3. Didn't see it myself to be honest. Heitinga played as a deep midfielder and we had a flat back 4 without the ball. Sure, when we took possession Johnny dropped in to allow the CBs to split but it was hardly a 3 at the back system. If we are going to play against a team that deadly on the counter we should probably play with 2 holding in the middle as our fullbacks are forward a lot of the time when we lose the ball.

Got to say I think johnny just left off from last season, he thinks he's a better passer than he is under or passed a good few times to coleman trying to spray the ball across field. He also gave the ball away to much dithering on the ball. One player that did do well was naismith I thought, got a lot of grief last season me included but he wanted the ball more, made some good runs and done some decent turns. all in all we did ok last night but the ref was a disaster, i'm assuming he's american but I don't think he was good enough at all, too slow and cuddent read the game

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree with Naismith. He's much more comfortable further forward on the ball pressing higher up.

With Johnny it's a tough one. The balls we are trying to play to the wings are difficult to get spot on all of the time and many will go astray. When they come off it sets them on their way and creates good quick attacking opportunity.

It's a case of the more you do it the better you become but he is in a position there were he will get plenty of the ball and start the transitional period play from defence to attack, which is tough.

Copied verbatim from the match report on the official (English language version) Real Madrid website:
"Real Madrid played their second friendly in the U. S. A. , and fifth of the preseason, in Los Angeles. Ancelotti's team won once again, this time against Everton. The Whites were far superior and deserved more goals, but came up against an on form Howard who saved four or five clear chances. The Whites continue the fine tuning before the start of the season and are doing so playing well and a very attacking style football that is being enjoyed by fans, who enthusiastically applauded the Whites', especially Ronaldo. "
Any comments, fellow posters?

How are people being negative about us last night? firstly this is a pre-season and we are still playing a new system. Secondly, we were playing what was a near full strength Real Madrid squad. I'm not trying to be biased but I would say we played just as well as they did. Some questionable refereeing decisions killed us off. A lot of so called better teams have played Real Madrid and performed worse than that and also came away with a worse score. At times our passing was absolutely superb and i'm proud of our performance. Really excited about the coming season to see what RM can bring us. Being realistic I don't think we will win anything in his first season and we probably won't challenge 4th position. As long as he gets us playing exciting football and sets us up to have a go at teams then I will be happy. Once the team settles into his philosophy, I think we will start seeing a lot better results.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm with you OP, I don't see any reason for negativity with the team at all. Madrid were as you say nearly at full strength and we gave an excellent account of ourselves during the game even with Mr Magoo being the ref.

At the end of the day we are not going to come up against many teams next season who can play like Madrid do or hurt us as they did.

Well done lads you did us proud, let's carry this through to the season and see where we end up, we may surprise a lot of people, ourselves included!

Seen people give Kone and Fellaini a bit of stick because they're looking lazy and lethargic.

Please remember that A)It's only pre season, Kone needs more minutes and B) both of them (plus Osman for that matter) are Muslims and are currently in the process of Ramadan so obviously, they're got going to be in the best possible condition to play. Especially with a 26 degree heat and the like.

Thought we were alright last night, think a draw would've been fair as we were only really undone by 2 counter attacking goals, as well as getting shafted (nothing new there then) by the referee.

Looking forward to the new season, COYB.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I thought Felli did well and done a lot of running last night.

Kone didn't get a lot of service but what I will say is Jelly when he came on made things happen by searching out the ball. Pulling the defender out of position started to leave gaps and that's what Kone needs to do but again it's only pre season and I'm sure he will come good.

Jelly's movement was excellent tonight and he looks right back to his best. He's moving away from the defender again instead of hoping to get tripped or gain a foul and he's finding space regularly.

In this team and formation he will get goals.

Every time I've previously checked the official tournament website for the "Guinness International Champions Cup 2013" prior to posting on here, I've found that the schedule for Everton has changed. It seems that it's not only results, but also "seeding" that affects which match a team plays in next and against whom. So, according to the updated official tournament schedule, Everton will now definitely appear in the "5th place play-off" in Miami (against opponents yet to be determined) at 9pm local time on Tuesday, August 6th, which equates to a UK time of 2am on Wednesday, August 7th. I think I'll avoid posting details of any similar future tournaments - I've posted too much misinformation up to now on this rumours/banter forum - and will wait instead until the Everton official club website states the names of opponents and kick-off times ;-)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Its the stupid yanks, can't grasp a simple tournament lay out, we won in the quarters and got beat in the semis so should be in the 3rd/4th place play off, not the 5th/6th place play off

Posted yesterday about (Artful) Dodger stadium vs Madrid. Well a very good name for the place as the ref and the 'pie eating' linesman (who couldn't actually keep up with play) totally mugged us this morning! Ronaldo at least 2 yards off as ball is played to him for opener and Distan scores a perfectly good goal to have it disallowed. (Memories of Ferguson's Villa Real come to mind).
One big concern though, if we are to play high up with 3 at back we got to make sure no pukka pies are left around in lines mans changing room when the real fun begins.

Watched the game today, I think that for the first 20min until the first goal we controlled possession and the game, when they scored after those subpar refereeing decisions they took control and we looked a lot more exposed at the back. Fellaini was shielding ok, but heitinga became anonymous. Fairly sus refereeing but all the same we played fairly well and should be pleased the new system went toe to toe with a class team like Real.
Surprised that barkley and gibson didn't come on earlier as midfield needed a spark, and when Jelly came on we had more penetration, it looked like his confidence was coming back :) COYB
