I can understand giving Lookman and Bernard an opportunity last night, also don’t see any harm in Baines for Digne either. But Pickford should remain in goal. To change central midfield is to much Sigurdson and Gueye are the heart of the team. If we are winning then give Dowell last 20 mins. Tosun? After scoring Saturday thought he would regain confidence maybe to many changes effected him too. I still reserve my full opinion on him to be honest.
I fully understand the need at times to rotate the squad for opportunities and rest. We are not in Europe so not as though we have to many fixtures. Also with Utd and Liverpool both out of League cup our chances of winning would have increased. Hopefully Marco has learnt from it.

Hi fellas, hope you are all well haven't been on a while but still been reading the posts. Too early to say how this season will go, having been at Goodison for our home games it's mostly been poor but I know there is the need for patience and time to gel. I have confidence that Silva is the right fit and I can't wait to see Mina come into the side. But I'm absolutely gutted seeing tonight's result, having not seen my team lift a trophy in my whole life and the completely dismal performances year on year in this cup makes me so angry. Wouldn't say it's winnable but if we'd played our strongest side we win tonight, Silva made a huge mistake. I just don't get why the lack of hunger from the club comes from to end the trophy drought. Anyway, as bad as life as a blue gets, onwards to Leicester on Saturday. Need to continue the momentum in the league.

{Ed025's Note - hiya joe, yeah mate massive faux pas by silva last night, but i will forgive him if we win our next 5 games mate..

Am hacked off with all this rosy glasses crap. 'Oh but aren't we playing nice football'. Football is conpetetive in case you missed it. A Benitez or the lad fron Bournmouth would have us flying. Don't know what sone of you watch but that was awful and against an awful opposition.

if you are hacked off by the rose tinted glasses crap just think how we all feel having to listen to all you doom and gloom merchants

PS what has Howe done or won? He plays pretty football but is all at sea defensively - maybe that's why he likes the south coast and moved back there as soon as he could. Benitez has done nothing at Newcastle, didn't want a Director of Football to work with him and gets advice from Allardyce when it comes to attacking football

At the end of the day though both are not our manager, Silva is. Moshiri took his own advice, not Bill Kenwright's, not yours, not mine so why don't you do as you say you would and support him and the team instead of moaning all the time or is your opinion the only thing that matters to you

I guess I am what you called a sycophant - right after you said you didn't condone insults because of your high standards?

At the risk of repeating what a lot of others have said I think we missed a golden opportunity last night. For whatever reason the Boss decided to make changes and it didn't work. I could be critical about the penalties but I hate them and I'd hate being in the position to have to score one. At least now we can go all out to win the FA cup and the League eh? ;-p.

First match I’ve been to this season, oh how I wish I’d not run out of hours on call, money wasted, Mr negative sitting next to me moaning all game and a performance which was rubbish. Tosun didn’t seem the answer up front, no pace, poor movement, get in the box lad and lose a few pounds ☹️.

Were you in the Park Stand Rich, if so I May have been sat in front of you, was getting Mr Negative in my left ear from behind, almost a John Motson 90 min running commentary on how rubbish Davies is and how rubbish Stek and the team are.

Only time he let up was when he went for a piss at half time.

Sorry it was a poor game Rich but I am sure your next visit will be better.

At least you seen a bit of attacking football and Bernard start, so much worse last season, that was a average performance compared to the dross Sam served up, trust me on that.

Still early days for silva, will take time to mould his team especially with the high press. Roll on jan, a good forwards a must for me. Looking forward to the next one whenever time permits.

Can anyone explain why Richarlison needed to be rested last night after missing 3 out of 4 games in September.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Most likely while resting he was playing in Brazil and may well be jet lagged, but I’m more sure it was to give lookman and Bernard starts!

I said yesterday I'd leave it to Silva to pick the side for Southampton. I think he got it wrong. I think he failed to understand our need, our desire, our impatience to win a trophy with this great club after so many years without one.

I think he saw it as a chance to look at a few players which I can understand but not at the risk of losing a tie that we should have won and knocking our confidence which was beginning to come back after Fulham
I hope there's been lessons learned but instead of having a chance in 2 competitions we are down to one (with the greatest respect the league isn't achievable this season) the FA Cup which doesn't start for us for a couple of months. We needed to be involved in the Carabo Cup which was our best chance of a trophy
A missed opportunity thrown away

Let's face it we're not going to finish in the top 6, so the cups were a good way to get some results to build on so why 7 changes from a winning side last Saturday never mind one cup down another one to go let's hope we can win that one.

Disappointing result but it may be that Silva has been told that a decent league position in vital this season and he is able to experiment in the cups to make sure he has the correct personnel to take the team forward. We all know that we would love to win some silverware it just may not be the managements priority at this time.

Look on the bright side guys we can concentrate on staying in the prem, we are a pretty crap team and that must be our priority.

Oh dark clouds. You can always be relied upon for your little rays of sunshine.
FYI I don't think we are a crap side and do believe we will be in the top 6=8 by the end of the season.
I won't bother asking your forecast.

To manage Efc you have to get Efc but I don't think MS does and last night merely confirms this.
