Just a little observation from me: Our start to the season was pretty crap and most agree that our poor pre season planning was the main reason. Then 3 games ago little Leon Osman that rubbish past it player came into the team and we won 2 out of 3 and drew the other. Yes I know he is easy to knock off the ball and his legs have gone, but perhaps he brings something to the team with his quick free kicks etc? Anyway, after that, he is back on the bench and McGeady comes in. People rave that he had a really good game. Remind me, how many did we score and how many in particular did the wondrous McGeady bag himself? In total he has scored 1 in 24 games. That to me is terrible for an attacking midfielder. Even Leon Osman and his knackered legs are better than that. Either way, the few games we have won this season have had Ossie in the team. I know people will come back with all sorts of insulting comments, but you can't ignore the facts.

{Ed025's Note - i would take ossie over mcgeady any day degsy, even though i only see him as an option from the bench these days mate..

May I also add alcaraz came in for 3 games and we won 2 and drew one, when is he getting a testimonial? Mcgeady did well, or can't a player do well unless he scores or we win, so besic is a dreadful useless player, how dare he not score against swansea, its silly, if ronaldo fails to score in his next game and real don't win does that mean he was beond atrocious and should be burnt at the stake? No, i'd take mcgeady over osman, in fact i'd take anyone over osman, 'he took a quick free kick which 99% of players would of done in that situation but he's genius anyway', seen his book? Said he wanted a scrap with fellaini, if osman didn't get pushed over by the wind then he would of been retired, which wouldn't of been that bad, seen him rap? Yeah, i'm scarred for life off that, seen him have a go at tim cahill saying he didn't deserve a send off? Yeah, cahill is 100x the player and 100x the evertonian osman will ever be, i'd take cahill back I january and give osman to nyrb, least timmy would play for the shirt, I really dislike osman, which is obvious, he gets special treatment by you because he's been a great servant, he should not be shown an ounce of leniency, he's finished, he gets pelters at the match, pelters on twitter and isn't liked by a lot of evertonians, i'm not suprised, he has the cheek to ask for more game time, despite being the slowest, weakest, laziest and most hated player in the squad, him and neville must of sucked up to moyes every minute of the day, then throws a fit when replaced by players who actually have footballing ability, when people look back at their fan favourites, ferguson, sheedy etc, they will mention tim cahill, not leon osman, he's already disliked by the majority, he shouldn't go being disrespectful to a player who did more for the club than him, i'm rambling on like a hate filled psycopath, I will leave it with this, just because he's been here longer than anyone else (because no one would buy him) doesn't mean he can get away with everything

So you hate Osman Swan? Really? I hadn't heard. You also seem to hate full stops. I just developed asthma reading that.

Swan: what if RM does decide to move Leon Osman on to another club (or maybe Osman just retires), but the player that RM brings into the squad as his replacement is Tom Cleverley?
Also, as far as all of those (ageing) players that most posters reckon aren't up first-team football at Everton anymore, which of these players would you be willing to see move into a coaching (or other non-playing) role at the club?

I love that, see it all the time, people have no argumrnt so they decide to have a go at their grammar and punctuation, its brilliant, if reading gives you asthma, breathe or don't read anymore. If you need full stops to breathe then i'm shocked youve lasted this long. Sid, i'd rather play with 10 men then have either, if osman leaves, brilliant, i'm shocked martinez ever picks him, but if martinez decides to bring in tom (which is going to happen, I've come to terms with that) then it shows he knows how to replace sh*te with even more sh*ite. i'd rather osman stayed away from coaching, don't want the kids coming through only passing sideways and not tracking back, distin isn't needed in a coaching role, or howard, barry would be brilliant, but is still a good player so I dunno, eto'o as a coach would be phenominal, but unlikely, pienaar can do one, hibbert could help with defending, that's it really.

Well Swan, I have a few things to say about your replies to my original posting. I can't argue against facts nor statistics. Just like Osman. McGeady over Osman? In the words of George Best, "McGeady is not fit to lace Osman's drinks never mind his boots." Look at Osman's record on wpedia.

Then look at McGeady's. I am not the big Osman fan you think I am. Nor am I the McGeady hater you think I am. I really want McGeady to shine. But so far I am with Ed025 and would pick knackered old Osman ahead of McGeady on current form. Just out of interest, how many has McGeady scored?

How many assists has he had? What is his pass completion rate? I believe the answers are: none, none and very low. How many minutes has he had on the pitch? Loads. To sum up, I am not a McGeady hater nor an Osman lover.

I am an Evertonian who wants to see whoever puts the shirt on do well. Players with limited ability, but big hearts such as Tim Cahill will always have a special place in my heart.

Players of limited stature who have been loyal servants and have played hundreds of games and scored over 50 goals in their career will also have a place in my heart. Gifted players who look like little boys lost and do not live up to expectation, will always annoy me. with the hope that they improve.

He got a goal vs leicester and an assist vs fulham last season, can't recall anything else, i'm not a fan, but he did well vs swansea (remember I said he did well, not perfect), osman hasn't had a decent game since villa away last season, osman may of played over 100 games and all, tbh i'm getting sick of speaking about the disrespectful twonk, can we leave it? Honestly, even i'm getting bored of it now

Agreed Swan.

Alright guys and ed I'm a new user to this site.

Just a quick question as I'm intrigued to see who everyone else would want.

If we could sign a CB and a winger in January who would you want realistically?

My CB choice would be: Winston Reid.

An experienced leader and was one of the best cb's in the league last season.

Other targets: Shawcross, Schar, Rudiger, Kjaer

My Winger choice would be: Andre Ayew.

We need another quality winger other than Mirallas. Ayew has been one of Marseilles best players for the last couple of seasons. I still don't understand why Atsu doesn't play more for me he hasn't had a good run of games and I'm sure he could do better than Pienaar or McGeady.

Other targets: is there any other targets?

{Ed025's Note - welcome to the site 1191, my choice for a winger would be anyone bar mcgeady, to be honest i dont see a CB as a priority with jags and stones being my preferred 2, and having distin and alcaraz as back ups mate..

03 Nov 2014 20:26:17
Cheers ed is there any interest in keepers atm seen as Robles isn't great? Think Butland could be a good backup option.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i hope we are looking for a keeper 1191, we certainly need someone to push timmy and i dont see robles as that guy, for me krul would do very nicely mate..

We have five keepers at U-21 and U-18 level - Griffiths, Stanek, Hunt, Hewelt and O'Loughlin - which to me seems like the club is hoping that one (at least) of these develops and comes through. Why else have so many when we have a limited U-21 and U-18 fixture list to use them in? I guess that increases the chances of one making it. Regarding young keepers proving themselves, loan opportunities for young keepers to regularly play in the lower leagues are surely limited, as they'll just warm the bench unless it's an emergency cover situation. It comes down, I would suggest, to what our specialist goalkeeping coaches decide about the keepers based on limited match-time and more so training ground impressions. I already have concerns about the way Howard and Robles have performed since neither has been playing in a way to inspire confidence imho. Surely the coaches have to keep first-team keepers performing well while they develop the younger keepers. When was the last time we had a young keeper come through the ranks at Everton and play a good numbers of games for us - rather than move on and blossom elsewhere?
Does anybody care about this? Or is it a complete non-issue?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - its obviously an issue sid, i was not aware we had that many mate, to be fair i think tim is a very able keeper but we do need someone to put a bit of pressure on him, and to be honest i dont see that being robles, or any of the five you have mentioned in the forseeable future fella..

Neuer, kompany and ronaldo would do me

Agree0 Disagree0

I reckon that not only is Neuer a top class keeper (he'd be our new Southall), but also that both Kompany and Ronaldo are good enough athletes and big enough and physically strong enough to make a decent job of playing in goal if they had to. However, I'm not sure if they'd favour the continental method of punching rather than catching crosses and other high balls.
