If Baines was fit enough for the bench then for me he should’ve been in for Martina. I think Baines is in decline now but still way better Martina!

Believable4 Unbelievable0

04 Mar 2018 02:05:32
Martina is unfairly made a scapegoat time and time again. He's not good enough, I know that. But he has no cover in front of him, he has to cover the centre halves as well. Keane and Williams were pathetic today. Baines playing today would have made little difference. The pair of the CBs had no showed no aggression or positional sense whatsoever. If we're going to play a RB at LB with no protection and two CBs who haven't got a clue where to be then this will happen every game.

Agree3 Disagree3

04 Mar 2018 08:48:27
Wow mate I just read your post after typing mine above. 100% agree with all you say. Martina scapegoat. Williams and Keane dreadful together and add to that a small goalkeeper who is great at shot stopping but woeful at set pieces.

Agree1 Disagree3

03 Mar 2018 20:31:37
Williams has been a liability all season. Just hoping he never plays for us again.
Like myself, we are blaming the manager, but the buck stops with the players. Who some, are not fit to wear our famous shirt.
It is going to take sometime to get rid of these under performing, overpaid so called stars and plenty of money to get them replaced.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

04 Mar 2018 02:07:20
It's a bit of both mate, I want Sam out instantly but some of the players are pathetic, in every aspect you would judge a player on.

03 Mar 2018 18:22:42
I think the club should appeal Ashley Williams red card.
That way maybe the FA wil extend the suspension to 3 or 4 games. Seen this on Twitter earler and thought it was very funny 🤣
If we don’t laugh we’d go insane watching this bad lot.

Believable10 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - your right there joe..

03 Mar 2018 20:28:55
the one consolation that Ashley Williams was sent off, is we won't have to put up with his pathetic performances for three weeks. Holgate should be playing, he is still learning but does all the basic things right like defending.

Agree5 Disagree0

03 Mar 2018 17:33:26
This one is really for the Ed's since you guys seem to know a fair bit about the footballing world between you all.

First, given the high turnover of managers this season, how long do you think is reasonable to give a manager time to turn a team around?

Secondly, how long do you think Big Sam will be given to turn things around for us Blues?

When we sacked Koeman, I was all in favour of Sam coming in and sorting out the team. However, things are slipping back to the start of the season and I'm wondering whether he is the right man for the job.

It is worrying to see how much he blames the players for not doing as he asks. The stats are showing how poor the team are doing but a large part of this must be down to tactics and team selection not just the players.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - the time given will depend on the situation the team finds itself in reason, sam will be given until the end of the season then (hopefully) banished from the kingdom never to be seen again..

03 Mar 2018 18:45:38
What do you think about Pardew, Lambert, Hodgson and the rest of the teams near the drop?

When is the cut off point to bring in someone new?

I assume most clubs will now stick with what they have fear of upsetting the apple cart given there are so many able to stay up (with the possible exception of West Brom) .

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - all dead men waking at this point reason..

03 Mar 2018 17:21:50
Gents,
We have good players, but unfortunately this guy doesn't want to play them. How many games has Martina played now? And it's clear he is crap. You telling me Garbutt wouldn't do a better job.
Williams bloody awful, second goal he watched their striker walk past him, then jumped up and down blaming everyone else. Holgate a much better defender, and he can pass a ball.
Our left side is wide open every game, and teams know it. And still this fraud won't change it.
Just knew that even at one up we would still blow it.

Believable9 Unbelievable4

03 Mar 2018 17:50:45
Thing is Woburnblue I used to think big Sam is a premiership manager for a reason and I backed him because he knows better than me. Turns out he knows less than all of us. Totally agree with your post.

How Holgate doesn't get more games I will never know. Always wondered why Lookman got played. The lad is class if he was given the chance. Klaassen and Sandro never given a chance. Its a disgrace. As you say Garbutt. You could nearly make up another team with players that never got a chance. Why did none of them get it? I mean why sign all these players if they are not going to get a proper chance? They can't all be flops.

I agree with Grumpy and Guernseyblue. There is something not right in the club when this sort of thing is happening. Let's hope it gets sorted before it becomes a detriment to the club and us fans ultimately.

Agree with the above Woeburn etc! Wife definitely going to banish me again tonight, sight already getting a little wobbly. I am just a layman when it comes to managing or coaching but if I and thousands of others can see what is wrong on the pitch, I just don't get how Allardyce and his staff can't. Tosun scored today but I bet next game he is dropped but not those such as Martina, Williams (he misses out anyway thank goodness) , Keane will be in even though he had a mare, I just do not get it. We have 34 points now, we need another 4 or double that to be sure. For me we could do no wrong in playing an attacking side with Coleman Jags Mori and Bainsie/ Garbutt at the back. The back 4 today apart from Coleman needs to go in the Summer. And Sam has to go as soon as we are mathematically safe.

SA needs to go without doubt but also all of the 1st team coaches need to go as they are not doing any good. The fitness coaches are not very good as most of our players are puffing like trains with 20 mins to go and that is when we are at our most vunerable. Most of the 1st team squad need to go also as they are simply inept.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Mar 2018 02:11:40
If we don't beat Brighton then we are in serious trouble. No fixture for us is anything near a given so we shouldn't count our chickens just yet. Any self respecting Evertonian would expect 6 points from the last 2 away games and settle for 4, but we're getting used to this too easily.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Mar 2018 16:56:48
Get Arteta in for the remainder of the season so he can check out the squad. The last thing we want is trying to replace a manager in the summer with the World Cup on.

Believable4 Unbelievable8

03 Mar 2018 16:51:27
Oh dear oh dear, what a complete shambles. Team is devoid of guts, effort and in a lot of cases football basics.
Despite the team selection and how SA sets the set up and shape, the players are supposed to be professionals and should be able, if the coaching staff can't, to see the threats posed by the opposition and adapt team shape to neutralise.
There is absolutely no leaders on our team who can motivate and console a performance from their team mates.
If you analyse today's team selection it shows the coaching staff have no idea and do not learn from the recent matches.
William's is the worst defender in the PL, slow cumbersome and no special awareness. Keane unfortunately is a little better, add to that Martina is light weight with no positional sense, all three go awol at critical times, which means we have one real defender in the back four - a recipe for shipping goals.
The midfield also is far too easily by passed and with the exception of Gana, show little idea of position sense or the desire to bust a gut to protect their position.
SA is not going to or capable of changing so we are in for a very frustrating and squeaky bum time for the rest of the season.
I agree Pickford needs to be more positive in claiming crosses and should have closed down Barnes for the first goal but he made some good saves to keep us in the game.
Also, to play DCL is wasteful and totally ineffective and should have been deployed along side Tosun to offer a real threat to the Burnley cb's.
My team selection and setup for the remaining games would be 4132
Pickford
Coleman Holgate Jagielka Baines
Gana
Rooney Sigurdsson Klassen
Walcott DCL
With Funes-Mori. Davies, Banningme Tosun and Niasse amongst the subs.
Depending on the way the game was going young Beni could fill the holding role and Gana push forward to replace any of the midfielders who were havivg a mare or injured.
Same applies to Tosun or Niasse if DCL is off his game.
But we should definitely be looking for a consistent team selection.

However enough is enough, he had the option to pick jags and funis mori, they may both have lacked resent game time and were fit, if not match fit, I know it's easy to be wise afder they event, but at his best Williams was never more than a jornyman, and Keane, was in sams own assesment not playing like a 30 mill c/ back, nither should ever be see in an everton shirt againe

How is that even funny. We’re in trouble cause we appointed a right twit of a manager and at the moment I can’t see three worse teams than us in the league. He don’t even know a best 3 yet, let alone his best 11. Am I still supportive of Sam then yes for the same reasons that I state week in week out. I DO NOT cherry pick which parts of Everton to support, I support them in their entirety and will continue to REGARDLESS of who is in charge.

Agree3 Disagree5

03 Mar 2018 15:24:05
I think you are right GB there is more wrong at the club than SA, A lot of posters in my opinion refuse to see past that though. Something has massively upset the apple cart towards the back end of last season and it is having a detrimental effect on us. I just wish we knew what it is.

Agree2 Disagree2

03 Mar 2018 16:47:36
Let's leave Grumpy out of this. He's got his ways of supporting the club which I commend. It's not his fault we're in a mess and having a go at him is pointless.

I want Sam gone which is no surprise to anyone and even think going back to Unsworth is worth doing. If not, Ferguson.

In the summer though we need a rethink from Walsh down. The people who come in have to be experienced and successfully in their role and with a clear plan of moving this team forward.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Mar 2018 18:26:07
Where does the figure of £290 million come from? I can't get it anywhere near that. Whatever the outgoing figure is, it is the net figure that is more relevant and that will be reduced by sales somewhere in excess of £150 million.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Mar 2018 14:40:31
Lots of emotion going to appear on here and understandable. But what I have noticed is that every time Keane plays. he makes a mistake. Williams is also full of mistakes. We signed a keeper who is a brilliant shot stopper, yet concede from corner after corner when he can't get to the looping crosses. and Keane and Williams seem to mark space? We signed the most effective taker of set pieces (Siggy) yet I don't think we have scored from one yet? Not many if at all? Burnley have hardly scored any this season. but we now officially have the worst defensive record. that has to be down to the keeper and center backs. Their keeper would have plucked that cross out of the air. As would Robles. We are poor defensively in the air. Burnley capitalised on that one thing.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

03 Mar 2018 15:21:45
And to think a solid defense is what Oxo built his reputation on. Time to make the change and actively seek a new manager to be in charge enough to evaluate before the World Cup.

Agree3 Disagree0

03 Mar 2018 15:40:01
Can't be blaming Pickford for our lack of centre defenders. All goals conceded today was mistakes from Keane and Williams today Keane just totally looked lost. I think Big Sam will be thankful if he gets released. He did what he came to do final.

Agree2 Disagree1

03 Mar 2018 16:27:25
Mowfee, Idont blame the keeper except for one thing. we keep conceding at corners. and Pickford is just about the shortest keeper in the Prem. that's my point. Great shot stopper but too small for corners and free kicks. The guy who headed in was 2 yards out again. The same as Van Dijk. The same as many others this season.

Agree0 Disagree1

03 Mar 2018 14:37:46
I've been going the game since I was 6 and have had a season ticket for the past 15 years now. Never in my lifetime have I been so disheartened and completely uninterested watching us play. Don't get me wrong, I still watch the utter garbage offered up every week but I can't ever recall an Everton team so bad. Relegation is a very real threat again and I cannot stand to watch one more game this season with Allardyce in charge. For as long as he is manager I refuse to watch another game and will certainly not be renewing my season ticket next year.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Mar 2018 13:48:42
Sorry fellas, I meant that I won't be renewing if SA is still in charge. I can barely afford a season ticket as it is and I would view it as a complete waste of money if I have to watch that football every game. I'd never turn my back on the club but as the years go on, we are getting further and further away from what it is to be Everton. Our fanbase is now toxic, goodison on match days is dead and the football being offered up is horrendous. The heart has been ripped out of the club and it's so obvious.
