Still nothing on this Milner deal? Is it going to happen Ed? {Ed025's Note - im not sure mate, the players seemed confident, but with aguero getting injured, things may change, nothing in this game is ever concrete..

Believable0 Unbelievable3

I hope you are right Ed025 mate. I don't want that waste of space here. No improvement on what we have. He runs around a bit and that is all he has got. Not good enough.

Be gutted if Fulham get forren we need to establish a young centre back into the side

Eddy

Believable2 Unbelievable2

No we don't when we have duffy, its now time for Moyes to play him, and concentrate on other areas of the team.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why can't we do that with Duffy. He has to start v Cheltenham. Barrym

Agree0 Disagree0

Duffy was excellent last season when he filled in for distin

Agree0 Disagree0

Forren's not that young, he's 24. I think by young you must mean that he's 5 years younger than Jagielka and Heitinga and 10 years younger than Distin. We need a new CB because Heitinga is awful so we can't rely on him. If we get rid of Heitinga we will be very very short at the back, so don't think that Duffy is the answer.

What I love about this time of year at our great club , is that truth be known , only Bobby boy, BK and DM really know who we are trying to sign, how much money we have got and so on.
All the stories from taxi drivers and my aunty Winnies next door neighbours cat make great reading and craic...keep them coming
Must go my dogs barking the names of our newest signings and loanees !!!

Heard today that moyes will sign a contract to stay in march only if he is not forced to sell players. He will only sign a rolling 6 month contract to the end of each transfer window to pressure the board not to sell prized assets

Believable0 Unbelievable7

Moyes won't do no 6 month contract sounds like BS to me

People are talking about the £9.1m loss for everton this year.

I think this may have something to do with Nike being the new shirt makers.
I normally buy a shirt for me, the wife and 2 kids but with the increase in price I haven't bothered this year. an extra £10 per shirt is a lot when we're all struggling.

It'd be interesting to see the shirt sales from this year compared to last?

Now I'm not saying this is the sole reason but surely it's part. From say £150ish to nearly £200 from me and my family alone thats £150 Everton havn't got from me.

Anyway thats my opinion.

Hi ed just a couple of quick questions,

How certain are you on milner joining? I think hed add great quality.
Lescott would be okay but I'm not too bothered if he doesn't join, and apparently yossi benayoun is a target? Do you know anything?

Many thanks, blue army {Ed013's Note - Its the wages that are a problem mate, loan deals would make sense and would be better for Everton financially. Milner would be a great addition}

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Sell johny and distan , get around £6-7mill get lescott on loan , that money well spent pluss a couple of loans would be great

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jan 2013 18:58:08
Ed there is no way in a million years we will be signing Milner on a permanent deal, he would have to halve his current wages and that would still make him our top earner, I think Lescott is on 90k so forget that one too, hopefully we can get them both on loan.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

A big step up for him but he looks a decent finisher. I'm mindful of Jay Rodriguez at Burnley last year banging in goals and he hasn't carried on that form at Southampton.

I never thought I'd see a better left foot in an Everton shirt, (weird, mixed-metaphor, I know!), than Kevin Sheedy's, but I think Bainsey's taken his crown. That free kick last night was nothing short of awesome. If Pirlo, Messi or rent boy Ronaldo had scored a free kick like that it would be being shown all over the world for weeks!
I've been an Evertonian for over 50 years now & Bainsey is right up there with my favourite ever players. God forbid him ever leaving Goodison.

With our latest annual accounts we can really afford to bomb out of the cup in the third round.
Dont people understand that everyday Goodison Park is empty is an unrecoverable loss for the club!

Agree0 Disagree0

If any 11 we put out are unable to beat such a crap, pointless and totally worthless team like Cheltenham, then they don't deserve to be at the club. Any 11 should give them a hiding.

Mike

Agree0 Disagree0

2 words Bradford/ Arsenal.

Agree0 Disagree0

That team is capable of beating any side from league 1/2 surely. I, personally, would hate to see us lose the likes of felli, bainesy, jags or Pienaar in a similar way to which we have mirallas and Gibson. If faith isn't shown in Oviedo, vellios & co now then cut out the middle man and sell them because there's no point! Theyre not 16/17 yr olds!! Rest the big guns I say!

Agree0 Disagree0

Disrespect the smaller teams at your peril! I've been watching football for a long time and every year one of the so called 'big guns' gets knocked out by a 'minnow'.
We need to treat Cheltenham with some respect but not too much of it. They will play like their lives depend on it and if they cause an upset then so much the better for them.
There's a reason why the game's been moved to accomodate the cameras; it's because the neutrals can't wait to see us fall, and it makes for great live sport if that happens.
I'm confident we'll get through, but anyone who expects us to stroll through is dreaming.
Moody Blue {Ed025's Note - i agree moody..

Agree0 Disagree0

Not expecting us to walk through but if you're earning good money at a top premiership club but nobody has faith in you to perform against a league two side then they're playing for the wrong team. Not a matter of underestimating, but rather believing in youth and squad players..

People who have come on here and blamed Heitinga for the goal last night really need to look again!!

Heitinga went with (first striker)Ameobi for the first ball to prevent any potential flick on... at that point Distin and Baines needed to drop back in case of any second ball but both of them got drawn towards the ball, allowing the (second striker) Cisse to drift around the back and score. Once the ball has cleared Heitinga/Ameobi it is up to Distin/Baines to deal with the danger not Heitinga!!

The guy who came on here last night screaming about 'the first rule of defending is never let the ball bounce' and saying we should get rid of Heitinga has a poor understanding of football....!!
The pundits on MotD never even mentioned Heitinga when reviewing the goal... why? Because it was not his fault!!

This habit of slamming this player or that player after every game is quite simply pathetic and embarrassing! Especially when it's aimed at the wrong player!!

Anyway a hard fought and potentially invaluable 3pts last night well done boys esp Victor ( another player who is constantly and unfairly slammed by people on this site). Here's an idea start supporting the team!! Or is that to much to ask from somone who claims to be a supporter? COYB!!!

aflm78

Believable6 Unbelievable5

I'm surprised Jelavic wasn't blamed for giving away a soft free-kick for being offside...which led to Krul's 'assist'

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with what you are saying about blaming individual players if we lose. All the players make mistakes as some point of the season that will cost us a win. Play as a team and win and lose as a team

I for one have never and would never boo, heckle, criticise a player whilst watching at Goodison or at an Away ground.

But people are entitled to comment on the team and individual players on a Forum. Or would you just like every to be happy with the team each week whether we win, lose or draw?

Alastair

Agree0 Disagree0

''Or would you just like every to be happy with the team each week whether we win, lose or draw?''

They would Alastair mate. Whatever you do, don't have a go at the team or players. We are the bestest team in the world and every player we have is world class.

Mike

Agree0 Disagree0

Distin got to command more first goal he went missing also when perch hit the post n the scramble after he just watches , for me heil cost u goals switches off at crucial times can't defend movement

Agree0 Disagree0

Baines steped out anticipating the flick as cisse would then be offside. he trusted the cb's not to get undeneath the ball. It was shocking all round but not 2 fussed cos we won.

Leon EFC

Agree0 Disagree0

These days defenders dont challenge for the header, they block off the attacker by standing right behind. This is what Distin does. He is better positioned to do this than Heitinga who is side on, hence the silly sideways jump. Baines does the right thing. Tracks first then steps up to play the offside expecting the flick from Ameobe. But because Ameobe doesnt get the flick no offside occurs. IMO Hetinga is at fault for not anticipating Distins intentions. If he had he could have just hung off to receive the ball. That said it may be that DIstin didnt give the shout. Johnny has made too many mistakes recently which is the reason he is getting flak.

Agree0 Disagree0

It was Distin's mistake. Heitinga has been playing poorly therefore making it more convenient for people to lay the blame squarely on him. He could see Heitinga going up for the ball and should have dropped back. However it's academic now because we took the 3 points.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mike is that sarcasm? Wow! How incredibly witty of you, did you think of that all by yourself? Bravo!!

Btw... Yes we are the 'bestest' team in the whole wide world but no all our players are not world class but unless you have a 100 million to donate to the club or have some rich Arab friends then these are the players we have and we cant change that, can we? So what purpose does slamming them do? None!

Good 3 points lads. And a great performance. Can't see us selling any1 unless it's going to massively improve our squad with players coming the other way + cash. But Doubt it.

I've not slagged of a player all season but had a really good look at naismith due to all the hassle he gets on here n although he never stopped he didn't do much right for me. I'm hoping that it's just the fact he was out so long and a bit of confidence but fear he may not be good enough, hope he proves me wrong tho.

Looking at the next few matches in january I'm really optimistic for some good results and with Mirallas and Gibo and some new faces in time for the Man U match. I really don't want Everton to mess up Man U's season but I also don't want to give them any points either.

Have a friend in the press and this is what he is hearing!! Jonny H is gone, just of clubs interested with Turkey a likely destination about 6m!! Distin may go if replacement comes in!!
Jonny H replaced with Forran 2.5m, maybe Distin gone
1.5m replaced with Hangaland 3m as only 6 months left on his contract!!
Donavon can't makes his mind up about his future but Moyes is confident he will sign a deal till the end if this season.
Ofoe is coming on loan start of next week!!
Kevin Gameiro will sign for 2.5-3m from PSG but could be late in Jan.
The Man City players linked Lescott and Milner won't happen due to the African players missing till Feb but a small chance Sinclair may be loaned not only small.

Would be very surprised if Moyes let two centre halves go, he's normally a cautious manager would seem too disruptive. Especially given jag's injury history.
Donovan for the full run in would be superb, imagine the publicity in the US if we got to the cup final.
Typically though the players that come in have barely been mentioned in the press beforehand.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gameiro is worth a lot more than 2.5mil, you are looking in the 7+ mil range for him. Also, Distin wouldn't go for 1.5mil, 35yr old with 6 months left on his deal?

Cracking 3 points last night, i agree with a previous poster that it was as much down to effort and hard work than a good performance.

The major positive was the impact of Big Vic when he came on, and he even smiled when he scored. Never been his biggest fan, mainly because you can see he has it in him, but doesn't perform consistently. More of the same please Vic.

The only negatives were the defence again looked a bit disorganised again at times. The goal we gave away was really sloppy defending. I think i would enjoy 1-0 win as much as a 4-1 at the moment. I am also really starting to wonder what Naismith has to offer, i don't like picking on individual players, but i haven't watched him once yet and come away impressed. I didn't know a great deal about him when at Rangers, but I was told by a couple of Scottish lads that i work with, that he was quick, had an eye for goal, and could play left, right or through the centre. Having seen him both live and on TV numerous times, i'm not quite so sure that is true. Perhaps its a lack of confidence, or the fact he has had bad injuries or that the pace of the premier league is a struggle to him? Would be interested to know what the rest of you think?

Cheers Alastair

Believable3 Unbelievable0

So you are going to stop moaning about Victor Anichebe and are going to turn your attention to Steven Naismith it seems.
I love Everton but can't stand the boo boys at Goodison Park, people must stop this NOW.
Ste Old Swan {Ed025's Note - i agree ste..for me there is not a lot to moan about, all the players are giving their all, and deserve our support..so come on guys, dont lets get like them across the park, and back our guys..

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Alastair. I think Naismith is a typical Moyes player - works hard, tracks back a lot, and tries his best every game. Like you, I've seen him at Goodison and on TV every game this season, and although he's had a few decent games, he's not really shone. Hes not got too much pace, and his dribbling isnt fantastic, so maybe RW isnt his best position. But I will always support him when hes an Everton player, and maybe given more time to adjust from the SPL he will improve. Or maybe in the future, he will be more of a bench player, to come on, which will may be better.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he is struggling with the quality of players he is against in the premiership. It was different with Jelavic because he has a strikers instint in the box so he fitted into it straight away, with Naismith playing on the right he is against better full backs than the scottish league. Think he just needs time to adjust to the better quality of opponent

Agree0 Disagree0

In response Ste old Swan, i was saying that i have never been that impressed with him and was opening up for debate as to why people think he isn't performing in the premier league. Not getting on his back merely posing the question. You obviously think he performs well every game so i must be a bad judge of player.

Alastair

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree. he only said he wasnt that impressed with naismith, now he is getting called a boo boy!
Is this site about banter? cos it seems it is full of people who are total worshippers! Naismith was poor last night. simple. watch a re run of the 50 odd minutes he was on the park.he contributed nothing at all.he even made that obertan look quality and he hadnt played for a year!

First Rule of Defending.....Never let the ball bounce in the area ! Heitinga should never wear the Blue Shirt ever again.....he was an embarassment & didn't find a teamate all match. Playing him in the middle completely unbalances the whole defence. Newcastle goal would not have happened if Jags had been alongside Distin. Heitinga should be sold asap to whoever is daft enough to buy him and the cash used to bring in others. Mirallas is proving to be a big miss for us, let alone Gibson, & either Hibbert or Coleman are badly needed and sorely missed.Rumours are rife about who we may be signing......Mbokani, the Belgian Striker ? ? ?

Believable5 Unbelievable3

Distin was equally at fault for first goal if he's guna go 4 ball go n challange not crouch down got an awful habit of ball watching n getting caught on wrong side ie 2nd half with shola ameobi .hes a defender who gets caught out n will cost u goals .we need center half to play along side jags

Agree0 Disagree0

I am getting a bit peeved with silly comments. To respond......Distin was at fault. If I remember correctly, he ran into the back of Heitinger and stopped Heitinger making a clean header. Also get rid of players after you have already replaced them. A few bad games from our player of the season and World Cup finalist. Yes there are dozens of young player of the years and world cup finalists lining up to sign for us. What happens with a couple more injuries and suspensions? Especially when the games keep coming thick and fast. Heard the same comments about Victor A over the last years. Rubbish player apparently. Oh and Osman not good enough. Oh and Gibson rubbish too! etc A player can have a poor spell. It happens to most if they are not called Messi. Oh it has happened to him. Perhaps Barca should get rid? Degsypulford

Not been on here for ages!! How you all doing lads and girls and ed025!?
Went away for christmas, watched the blue boys in a couple of pubs in tenerife, great christmas return 9 points from 12 and tonight was a great result after a unlucky defeat against Chelsea.
Have to say our recent good form is partly down to the return of form of Pienaar he went of the boil ever since he shaved his locks, but since the Tottenham game he has been brilliant linking up as usual with Baines and has scored a couple and also has a few assists.
Tonight, Baines free-kick was the best free-kick ive saw in a long time and I have to say in the last 4 games Anichebe, who I have criticised in the past has been showing passion and working hard and that's all we ask for in a player, so credit where it's due he's doing really well, if he stays fit and shows that commitment he can be a useful player.
Anyway, hope you all had a good christmas and new year and lets hope the blue men can smash it up from now till may and you never know where it will take us!!!!

Personally don't think we need to spend... Cahill and donavon on loan and I would be chuffed however I don't see where Cahill would play as moyes is obv happy playing Fellaini behind jelly... Jelavic in my eyes has been shocking last few games so maybe he needs competition to bring out the best in him. Thoughts?

Jelavic was brilliant tonight. Yes he never scored but being a lone forward your job is also holding the ball, working the line, creating chances and linking up with the attacking players. Jelavic did that tonight really well so you can't be too harsh on him. His goals will come.

Jelavic played very well tonight yes he a striker and is not scoring as many as last season but he been unlucky and is working hard for the team i dont care if he doesnt score for the rest of season if we get 3pts every game.

robbie {ed025's note - his work rate is second to none, and plays a vital role for us, not only scoring, but creating them for others, as well as leading the line as good as anyone in the prem...hes top notch for me robbie..

Can I just say, Everton are some of the nicest fans I've met,
I lost my ticket for the match tonight and one of your lot gave me a ticket to sit with yous and looked after me. Massive respect, good luck in the future, from a 13 year old Geordie

Distan, Osman? Why some of our most consistent players are overlooked by fans time and time again is beyond me.

Yeah yeah and Phil Neville dives after Moyes has condemned it...do we have to go through this again it's so boring! Concentrate on Everton, your own team, leave us to worry about ours. Bring some proper banter, not this primary school tell-tale rubbish!
