Isn't it great to be competing for the best

Emery is a 'cup' manager, not what Everton need right now.

Yes, we would all like 3 Europa leagues in a row but Everton need a good league manager not a cup specialist, we've just tried a manager who did well in cup competitions.

Agree1 Disagree1

31 May 2016 22:44:59
As far as I know. Emery done well with valencia in the league? Although I'm happy to be argued wrong on that one. Can you provide some information as to why he is a cup manager other than just last season which I presume most of us know.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 May 2016 22:45:25
No we've tried Martinez. Imo Kenwright got Martinez just to try and break the drought of winning a cup, any cup. It has been 20 years. Think the fans need it. League is very important and our bread and butter. It's obviously more likely we would win league cup or fa cup than premiership so I think that was taken as the route to go.

Ed002 did say Saville's director of football is being looked at to come in but Emery is not on the rumours page. Maybe I'm mistaken.

Agree0 Disagree1

31 May 2016 22:49:05
Ha ha comparing Martinez to Emery Bluefish, funny that mate.

Agree2 Disagree0

31 May 2016 23:34:59
I would take been in the cup 3 years in a row let alone winning the thing don't forget you get champions league for winning that. Also when looking at the last 21 years we won sweat F A id take a cup manager at the minute a European tittle would be a great start to what we all want and that is a Everton team that could win every competion we enter.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 May 2016 23:44:15
Try Martinez's away record against Emery's last season. There's a comparison.

And what did he do that was so outstanding at Valencia

Yes, he's won three Euro cups but right now he's not what Everton need.

I'm probably old school, but the league comes first, I want to see the eague trophy running round Goodison, cups are nice but not the same as being the best over a season.

Thats why Emery doesn't get my vote :)

Agree2 Disagree1

01 Jun 2016 08:54:47
What did he do at Valencia? Well after they sacked Koeman with the club in 15th and €400 million in debt, he led them to Europa qualification in his first season and then three consecutive 3rd place finishes behind only Real and Barca. This in spite of having to sell his three best players. For the record, since he left, they've finished 5th, 8th, 4th and 12th. So, their three highest league finishes in the last 12 years. Then add on what he's done at Sevilla, where he's also improved their league position as well the Europa success, but he's not good enough? How is any other realistic candidate good enough in comparison to that? (Simeone isn't realistic, of course) .

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Jun 2016 08:56:25
He's done very well in managing their league position whilst still doing a brilliant job in the cups. Something every team in the EPL can't seem to manage.

With the club selling his best players on a regular basis he has still maintained good results. Yes his away form has been poor but he has still had success.

He is doing a similar job to Simeone but with less money and the lack of being able to stop his best players going.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Jun 2016 09:47:12
Martinez = Emery? way way too extreme to be a rational argument!

RM should maybe stick to being a No. 2 in Spain or in a league where high velocity football doesn't apply and even then he should be seriously monitored!

Agree1 Disagree0

31 May 2016 21:20:13
Just a thought but how would people feel about lukaku if after speaking to mosh he wants to stay?

Has he burnt his bridges with fans or be welcomed back with open arms (and a huge salary increase probably) ?

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i would be happy for him to stay A+B, it would also mean that he has had assurances that the club is looking to progress pronto..

31 May 2016 21:41:02
Reluctantly let him stay. But get competition for him pronto and make him earn his place more rather than him thinking he is a shoe in every game. Need competition and would probably get more out of him if he was kept on his toes by having another top striker to compete for a place in the team.

Agree1 Disagree3

31 May 2016 22:07:22
Couldn't agree more Nbtb. try for lacazette, batshuayi or alcacer . someone to push him to the limits. if any signed and rom lost his place due to form then it's up to him to work his generously paid socks off to win his place back. Unfortunately I think if rom lost his place he would moan in paper on international duty a want a move away. He honestly seems to be a really big cry baby when things don't go his way.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 May 2016 22:28:00
We could do with another quality striker even if rom stays. Hopefully a new manager might even play 2 up front then :)

Agree2 Disagree0

31 May 2016 22:28:23
If he said he wanted to stay i'd tell him if we can get what we want i. e £60/ 65m then then tuff titty ya gone

And if he said he wanted out I would tell him if we can't get £60/ 65m tuff ya stayin

Oh well it's hard this waiting game but if we get the right dof and manager then I'm all for it. It's killing me though I'm checking here every minute and the Everton app, ssn, Twitter, haha

I don't think anyone has got a clue to be honest.

Believable6 Unbelievable0

31 May 2016 21:42:56
I agree no one does. Won't stop the banter though. I like the way the club can actually keep secrets and run things discreetly. I know its frustrating and anxious. But still a good way to run a club imho.

Agree1 Disagree3

31 May 2016 17:35:00
Even tho we still don't have a manager which is really frustrating me, so much i can't concentrate on much else haha.
I am tho proud of the way the clubs going about things. Everything is being done behind closed doors. So much so nobody knows anything. And they are obviously trying to bring in the correct staff.

The club are taking their time to bring in the right staff though and I can't help but be nervous though. This pre-season imo is one of the most important in recent times. With regards to coaching staff and players. I just hope whoever we get has enough time to iron out all the uncertainties before the season kicks off.

31 May 2016 15:43:01
I see we have been linked with Unai Emery of Sevilla a lot recently and as much as I would like for him to be our manager I would wonder what this would mean for deulofeu's place in the squad. I seem to remember him having a loan spell in the season in the one before last and emery saying that he did not have the maturity to reach the top level. Personally I think that deulofeu is a wonderful talent to have in the squad and just by looking at the assists he made in late 2015 shows to me that he has the talent. He also seems to have a good relationship with the fans over social media's which would perhaps make him a fan favourite with the younger generations of our fans.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

31 May 2016 17:02:24
if you seen what he says it good point he said one one man pfft but he wasn't hard enough working back.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 May 2016 17:06:45
Yeah I mean Delboy has provided so much success to our club it would be awful to bring in a manager that doesn't rate him but has a proven track record of overachieving both donestically and continentally with a club who have a very similar stature to ours, and get on with winning stuff, because once away at Arsenal Delboy scored a blinder.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 May 2016 17:37:38
Chill Svenster, chill mate.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 May 2016 17:52:46
deulofeu is a luxury player to me. Definitely lacks maturity - when his head goes down, he gets frustrated and his petulance makes him less effective, which invariably costs the team. Not to mention his lack of defensive discipline.

Sounds like this Emery bloke knows what he's on about 😉.

Agree1 Disagree2

31 May 2016 18:45:16
Shown he's a good cup manager ( had one of those already ) but transfer his league form to Everton and we'd be baying for blood after 20 games.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 May 2016 19:04:04
Svenny I did not mean we shouldn't get him because we have deulofeu I just was wondering what would happen to deulofeu should he come in. I would also much prefer to have emery at our club and no deulofeu than someone like Moyes and keep deulofeu as well I just see deulofeu as a part of our future as well. Sorry if I worded it badly.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 May 2016 21:47:55
Del boy is kind of a luxury player but imo was the only player and I mean the only player out of the whole squad who could cross the ball properly throughout the whole season. I know he hardly played second half of the season but he could whip in a ball, set up goals and even score his fair share.

I hope our next manager can develop the lad and fit him into the side. Will be a top player come 2020 imho. I think he's worth keeping and getting to fit into the side.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 May 2016 23:08:23
Definitely a player with bags and bags of talent. Just reiterating the point that emery made about him - he lacks the maturity to be a top player. Maybe with the right development, that could change.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 May 2016 11:24:05
When you look around at other clubs you always see some truth in reports about new managers/ players etc.

Ive never seen any club as good as ours at keeping things secret, they are masters at it, every single report and rumour up to now is just pure guess work, none of us even know if any of those managers have been contacted at all, none of the papers know anything for certain, all the reporters do is see some garbage on Twitter and write a column on it, then another paper sees this and writes their own column up adding some bits in, next thing you know is we have interviewed 9 managers, looked at 6 players and are about to offer Joe Hart 200 k a week, our club is more secure than MI6

1st June tomorrow so maybe just maybe something could happen, i'm probably one of the most laid back people on the planet and its just started to do my head in, god knows what it is doing to some of our uptight fans, must be cracking up :)

Im also quite patient as that comes with being laid back, friggin patience is starting to go out the friggin window now, pause, deep breath, nearly blew then, come on Mr Moshiri give us something except speculation and gossip, anything, we are desperate.

The transfer market opens, I believe, on 9th June. I expect our new manager to be in place and already running before that date so that we're not left behind or finding players leaving without a care in the world.

Agree0 Disagree2

31 May 2016 13:22:34
Well Pellegrini's contract with City runs out 30th June so I wonder how employing him at Everton before that date works.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 May 2016 13:54:58
The silence from the club is deafening but I think that is the way forward mate. I'd rather we conduct our business under the radar than publicly announce our every move. Realistically, I don't think the board taking their time is a bad thing as it is such an important decision to make and this next appointment will shape our future under Moshiri. The press and bookies will speculate regardless, as fans we just have to sit tight and hope that the board deliver for us. Certainly testing our patience but we will soon have a new man at the helm. Fingers crossed they get it right.

31 May 2016 14:25:31

31 May 2016 15:16:44
ha ha Ace, I wrote same post to reply but pressed bloody close instead of reply so could not be arsed retyping, West Ham make me laugh, if it isn't the owners spouting who they are going to throw 25 or 30 million on then its one of their sons on Twitter, that was 2 weeks ago and still nothing, bidding 15 million now apparently, must think the new free tax payers stadium makes them a great proposition, much rather it was done our way, nice and quietly with low publicity.

Honestly Degs it was bad enough with Dave Whelan and Wigan. But there's three of them at West Ham and none of them know how to shut up. Coming at you from all angles it's like them reptiles from Jurassic park.

Much prefer the long quiet and then boom! Just like when we signed Fellaini about 10 mins after deadline. Loved that one.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

31 May 2016 08:52:51
I think Mancini who comes across as a serious no nonsense type. His achievements have been overlooked he has made two big mistakes for me. 1 signing ballotelli and 2 going back to inter.
I think he could for us what he did at city! Remember he shouldn't have gone back to inter and they never gave him money. However I think he will take the Italy job from conte!

No thought he was a disaster from day one, for me should have been sacked when we finished 5th as that was Moyes's team.
He had by then proved in the transfare market he did not have a clue.
Robles, Kone to name two at least but there where more. Also the defensive problems where starting to show. There was also more.
So hated Martinez from day one, knew he would fail. I had no doubt and bored people to death saying but but I was right unfortunately.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

31 May 2016 08:53:16
Had a stellar season at Chelsea a few years back, amongst the best players in the premier league that season, was surprised when they sold him to United, at 28 he's still worth a punt because he'd be a steal if we could get that form back. But I think we'd just be one in a long queue of suitors.

Just reading a report and it looks like we should stop saying "manager" because it looks like we aren't getting one. Let me explain. A manager is the man in charge. He has the power and control over everything, training, transfers, contracts I'm guessing even the final say over how much to charge for a burger. And it seems to me that role for Everton is now dead. Head coach is what we need to be saying. Because it looks like our new man is the guy that just does that. He trains the team. If he loses a few consecutive games then he's in more trouble than when I say "Im just popping out for some milk" then roll in at 12am. The proof is actually staring you in the eyes. Pellegrini, de boer, koeman, Emery are all head coaches. They have very little say when it comes to the transfers. They work with what they are given. So roll on the "director of football" they sort all that out.
I hope our new "head coach" whom ever that maybe just has to say I need a new midfielder and he needs such a such ability for this role and it happens.

Going down the DoF route echo's my sentiments about Martinez and his Managerial qualities versus his Coaching qualities. Never wanted the bloke in the first place (why the heck would a consistent top flight Club like ours hire a Bloke who had just relegated Wigan quite baffling) but once we had, I said from the start that he was obviously a coach but bad Manager.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

31 May 2016 08:10:39
Because Martinez likes the manager role and wanted to create something amazing, like fergy or wenger. Mr Bill Kenwright saw that and went for it.
