Got a feeling we may be able to get a good result against Chelsea next weekend. Conte sets his sides out to allow teams to play their game, and respects every team for its individual style of play. As of yet we have not really established a style of play as our tactics seem to interchange regularly. I feel this lack of identity will allow us to surprise Chelsea.
We should play 3 at the back, and have our wingers playing very wide to try and exploit the space that the full backs will leave when the bomb forward.
In this game it is essential that our midfield joins the attack and overloads them defensively.

We are progressing but do not yet have the quality needed to overcome a Chelsea side that already have the quality and hitting really good form under Conte. If we do get a result and I hope we do, it will be by a great deal of luck.

I personally think it all depends on tactics. Maybe Koeman can outsmart Conte and nick us the win.

I personally think it depends on which team scores the most goals. but I might be wrong.

Interesting piece on the Sunday Supplement this morning of how bringing Rooney back would be patronising to us Evertonians.

Basically saying that he wanted us when he needed nurturing then gave his best years to United and now to come back to us at the end of his career when he is not wanted there would be patronising.

I have to sort of agree with this notion as well.

The sad truth is he was far to good for us when he left if we were anywhere near near enough to mount a challenge for the tittle he wouldn't of had to leave, he has never tried to hide his love of Everton, and to be honest although not as good as he once was don't believe the hipe he would still walk into our squad and coming home would inlet be a good thing for us
A big improvement on Merales, Delboy, Valencia and even Barkley although I still believe Barkley will come good.

I get were you are coming from to an extent but I don't believe he walks into our side as we don't play with 2 strikers and I wouldn't want him in midfield as that is just making space to accommodate a name like what LVG was doing at United and Woy with England.

Stateside is calling for Wayne I think.

The panel on that particular program talk out of their behinds the majority of the time. On the same day, they are lauding the current LFC team as the best they have seen since Evans was in charge, that their team now is one of the favourites for this seasons title! We are still a month away from the festive period! I'm pretty sure they have had better teams over the last few years tbh
With the WR aspect, if he had left us to join the mancs and we were challenging them for titles then they may have a point. Truth is, the young Rooney outgrew us very quickly, we couldn't offer him a platform that his ability was destined for. We still haven't hit them heights some 12 years later. The money generated from his sale actually saved us at a time when cash was in short supply. We had a squad with a high average age and little money to replace those who were nearing the end of their careers. As much as it hurt the fans at that time, it made sense for WR to move to a team used to winning trophies and for us to cash in.
If he decided he wants to come back, and both clubs agree to this, then why would we feel as if he is patronising us? I'd see it more like he is ready to come home than anything else. But any deal would have to suit the club and not done based on emotion.
Finally, is it not ironic that these rag journo's are accusing others of being patronising? Pot and kettle spring to mind :)

Valid assessment there Spud. I am not a fan of the show in particular and as I said I sort of agreed. Some of the points raised regarding giving United his best years was what most struck a cord with me. Yes we were not challenging but maybe we could have built around him in order to progress. All this is in hindsight of course. There will always be splits in opinion regarding the second coming of Rooney.

31 Oct 2016 09:56:09
I do see the point with the best years of his career being given to united and the fact that, if he stayed, we could have built a team around him. I just think he came at the wrong time for us and by that I mean he was far too good in comparison to his team mates. He needed to be playing with top players to keep progressing and, sadly, the likes of Gemmill, Pembridge and Li Tie would never help him reach his potential in comparison to Scholes, Giggs etc. If he was just coming through now then we would have a much better chance of keeping him on our books.
Another thing is that this is the first season with FM working behind the scenes. Maybe if he had bought into us a few years back, when Rooney was renegotiating his utd contract, we could have put in a bid to test the water. As you say mate, it's all hindsight now. Whether we bring him back or not, I wish the lad well. People should have a think before they shout off about him, it was a different club back then. I just feel that this panel hasn't looked at the bigger picture and is stirring up the anti-Rooney brigade.

Fully agree with the players at the time of Rooney coming through, playing alongside top players week in week out probably made him the player he was.

I'm with you on wishing him well and was never one to give him abuse, I just don't feel he is the right player for us at this time, just like we weren't the right club for him at the time he left.

I don't think Rooney would have left if it wasn't for the Moyes issue.

As Rooney said himself he would have played anywhere to get away from Moyes at the time.

Having a player of his calibre at that time would have brought interest into the club and we could have had at least 2 or 3 years from him to develop as a club.

However, it didn't happen and he's had a great career. We too have moved on and are a world away from the Li Tie days. Who knows the next 10 years could see our club win as many trophies that he's had.

Points: I was the one that said Barkley looked overweight, I was wrong but he definitely looks fitter (the whole Team actually) .
Since referees turned pro how come they have become more incompetent.
Need in January LB, CB, DM, AM (playmaker) and a support striker.
Made up with our Manager and his Staff, refreshing to listen to Koeman and his honesty, refreshing to have a Manager that can actually change a game. Enjoyed it today.

Barkley, that's what we want. If I hear one negative comment about him today I will spew up. You could see the relief in the boys eyes when he scored. Get behind him, don't bag and boo him. The boy bleeds blue.

{Ed025's Note - he was good today aussie but he has to keep that level up every game, we are not good enough to carry passengers mate..

30 Oct 2016 15:40:12
He's heading in right direction. Hopefully the goal and everything brings him on.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i really hope so NBTB because we really need him, for me MOTM was close between ross, rom and brian, and a mention for joel as well who done what was asked of him..

30 Oct 2016 16:11:23
I agree with that list Ed025. Prob throw Coleman in their as well. Williams and Gana were the only ones I thought played bad.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - seamus defensively is fine but very negative going forward NBTB, he may be under orders to do that so im not complaining, gana done well for me though in a scrappy game mate..

30 Oct 2016 16:37:38
Good win but clear we still need more in midfield. Was a bit nervy first half but looked much better second. Stonewall penalty at the end there, not sure what the ref didn't see? A big well done to Oviedo too. Still not convinced he is what we need, but 100% effort and one great block, can't ask for more.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - good summary that Twoold..

30 Oct 2016 17:17:33
Gana almost gave a goal away when he got yellow carded. Also gave a desperate pass to Coleman in the first half. Apart from that he was fine. Suppose we all expect a lot from him after the positive start to his Everton career.

Would like to add that Koeman has to be applauded for substituting Ross and allowing him on get a standing ovation from the crowd. Great bit for man management to aid in the lads confidence.

Time to chew fingers, Ovieado is struggling and we are being sloppy with the short pass, but I don't see how RK can change it with the squad we have!

Oviedo had good game in my eyes.

{Ed025's Note - i think your right mate..

30 Oct 2016 16:05:34
Oviedo was great today and Coleman was a tank. That back four and keeper were spot on and gave the rest a platform.

Rom, Bolli and Kevin were brilliant and all looked dangerous. However Barkley just pipped Rom for me. Hardly gave the ball away, got his tackles in and some of his passing was the best I've seen from us this season. The one with the outside of his boot to Rom was inch perfect.

Now let's see the same at Chelsea. We're good enough but need to believe it.

30 Oct 2016 16:41:54
Sorry BJ agree with everything you say apart from Kev. Thought he was poor today, still has a reluctance to take players on, as was shown by his poor cross towards Rom when he was one on one with the defender, but chose to get rid of it.
