What happened to wingers? Martinez has always played them at Wigan n'zogbia, Moses, mcmannaman and last year Mirallas and Delefou had great seasons. This year we usually play 2/3 number 10s and our wingers seem scared to take a man on. I think this a key reason were so bad recently as well as the shocking pressing and slow tempo sideways passing.

I've been watching the blues for over fifty years now, and in that time I've seen brilliance then rubbish, then a team with so much heart and drive you couldn't fail but to love them. The thing that worries me with this team though is that they do have a lot of quality players. Unlike some of the teams in the past who when I look back at old match programmes at the names, I can see why we were crap. And this is my biggest worry. The poor teams in the past had average players, this one doesn't, as they showed last season they have ability. What they seem to lack is heart and drive.

He can no doubt beat a man, then slash a cross out for a throw in, he has one goal in the premier league, ever an something like 5 assists, in 2 seasons? Quite bad, but I suppose martinez would get the best out of him (remember that personic saying about every player ever? Oh yeah i'm bringing it back and reminding people, come on). But with the way we are playing he will probably drop him to holding midfield, play osman out wide, sign moses, play him as a striker and put lukaku left back, ouch #martinezout

I am leaning towards the outcome of championship football, our next 5 games I can see us picking up 1 point at best and a couple of hidings from city and lpool and arsenal, I would go as far as saying I can see us conceding at least 12 goals in them 3 fixtures alone. We will either scrape a point against west brom and get turned over at Palace. By this time we are into Febuary and possibly in the bottom 3, and do we have the players to fight there way out? Nope we have all flair and no balls. I took 28/1 on us to go yesterday and that is looking like cracking odds! I would love to eat humble pie in large portions but at this rate I can see me eating terrible pies away at Wigan!

The reality is over this festive period the very spine of our team was the same spine of a team that got relegated 2 years ago. Why does Roberto think they would now be better equipped?
Robles, Alcaraz, McCarthy and Kone.
fed up of him, if we play 4-2-3-1 in the cup i'm calling 999 and getting him sectioned. He is the definition of crazy and the constant smiling and denial is the scariest

i rekon we need about 22 points to be safe, can't see us getting anything away from home so our home form is key and games home games coming are

city
west brom
liverpool
leicester
newcastle
southampton
burnley
man united
sunderland
spurs

10 games at home with 30 points on offer, we must win at least 6 of those or we truly are doomed

Really understand a lot of posters concerns and the points return from the last 3 'on paper' easier fixtures but now is not the time to be forecasting /trying to calculate our end of season points return. Last season West Brom stayed up with 36 points. We have 18 games left with 54 points at stake - we currently have 21. We are only just past the half way point in the season. What is more important is that we support our team, stick with them and support them as good Evertonian's do.

The most I got out of the trip yesterday was a free scarf on the way into the ground. The irony is it had school of science on it. What a joke. Any team can go through a bad run of results but we are so bad its unreal. Any manager knows exactly how to get a result against us. I even managed to laugh at our defending for the second goal as at times we were comical. It is only a matter of time before we are on the end of a massive defeat god knows wigan had a few. Anyone else think the subs yesterday were appauling yet again and that in the second half it appeared we were playing baines and naismith in centre mid. Martinez has lost the plot. Heard another bad stat. We have not come from behind to win a game in a year. Change is needed now i'm afraid.

Just watched the nightmare against hull again, our team lacks leadership! No one is running with the ball and passing straight off. We are playing 5 a-side football of receive the ball, take a few touches, look around and pass. No movement at all, it's lazy football hence the mistakes as there brains are not being fully engaged. I feel this is all down to Roberto and pre-season prep plus his "to nice" attitude. Only way to change this is Roberto changes his mind set or we change Roberto. We are on course to go down as it stands! But there is time to change this but it MUST be done sooner rather than later.

Happy new year to all the edds and fellow blues.just a quick question, my son wants to get some autographs from the players, were and when is the best chance of getting them, training ground or outside goodison, .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - training ground is usually better, even the injured players usually report for physio etc then, whereas they might not be at the games.}

Thank edd, do you know if the players will be in tomorrow?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - off the top of my head I don't know, but, as there is no game until the 6th and that is at home, so no need to travel anywhere, I would expect them to be in. I will post this up and then ask, as sometimes it takes a while to get a reply and by then someone might have sent in the answer for you.}

After the performances over the festive period should be in everyday, and maybe practice set pieces too because believe it or not if you score from them they still count, as clearly this open play theory isn't working. Again another pathetic notion from the boss

Agree0 Disagree0

Brings back a few memories hanging around Bellfield as a kid. Remember vividly the great Alex Young coming up to me to sign my book. I was so overwhelmed I couldn't even get the words out to thank him. Had a good set of autographs those days all binned my me mam in a sort out.
With regard to the request a youngster I know wanted Tim Cahill's autograph a few years back and wrote to the club and got a signed photo back in the post. Tell your lad to stick with it. It can be a nightmare at times but there's nothing better than being an Evertonian.

Daz, if you go to the corner of the Park End and Bullens Road 2 hours before kick off on match day the players go in to the ground there to register before going to the families lounge to see their nearest and dearest.
All the players (including some of the walking wounded) go in to the ground there and then go through the inside of the ground to meet their families. My son's filled his autograph book standing there.
The only bind is that you're then left outside the ground for quite a while before kick off.
Hope this works for you and your son.

A Happy New Year to all fellow Evertonians although what has been going on over the festive period is anyone's guess.
I've deliberately kept away from posting despite this dismal run desperately hoping that we'd start to deliver some positive results from what appeared to be 3 'easy' games. This would have then allowed RM to push upwards towards the top end of the table much like Brenda has done across the park after we were in stitches and extracting the you know what following their CL departure a month ago.

But now enough is enough! This team is a total shambles from the one we saw last season. Defensively we're a laughing stock. 4 points off the drop zone, only QPR have conceded more goals and we're the only PL side without a point from these games. Indeed MOTD last night compared our record at this stage this season with Wigan's 2 year's ago and they're almost identical and we all know how that turned out. The word this morning is that he's lost the Dressing Room following another fall out with Distin and Baines.

So what has gone wrong?
1. A dodgy pre-season - most of which Martinez missed whilst he was sunning himself in Rio with TV commitments.
2. Poor transfer signings. Kone, Alcaraz and Robles from Wigan. Barry and Lukaku who've not performed this season like they did last year. McCarthy has been a good signing and Besic will hopefully given time.
3. Questionable team selections. Players deployed out of position often when still injured or lacking match fitness. Substitutions (or lack of recently when 2 then 3 down against Southampton) that have not had the required impact upon games.
The future looks decidedly worrying when considering the next fixtures. West Ham in the Cup followed by Man City, WBA, Arsenal and the Darkside. On current form defeats and maybe a draw will see us entrenched in the bottom 3 given the way that some teams below us showed yesterday. I've been hearing "We're too good to go down" and "There are 3 worse teams than Everton this season". Really? Would that be Burnley, Leicester and WBA, each of whom showed a fighting spirit that has been lacking from us all season.

So will Roberto stay with Kenwright backing him in much the same way as Dave Whelan backed him 2 years ago into the Championship with Wigan? Or should we get rid, allowing someone else an opportunity to spend in this transfer window? If he goes who would come in? We've had our fingers burnt in the past promoting from within (Colin Harvey) and should we be looking for a British manager this time?
Sorry for the lengthy rant but I am really concerned about our future. Too many clubs have been relegated and now look never liked to return - Coventry City, Leeds Utd and Sheffield Utd to name but three. Could we be following them into the lower leagues and become the laughing stock on Merseyside?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I was sat thinking I have waited for my moan, but you have summed up exactly what I had to say. but with an addition. Firstly that I thought Moyes did a great job holding us at a certain level for a good 10 years. Adding that I was worried when RM came in. but everyone's positivity sucked me into believing he was capable. Then the 3 things you list are exactly what I was thinking. 1 terrible dissorganised preseason with a lack of manager. 2. Terrible signings of below quality players. 3. Debatable team selection. I suspect he will be gone soon. I also think our season probably hinges on Leon Osman getting fit and filling the right sided midfield slot that no one else seems to be able to play this season. It is no surprise to me that he has been in the team for 4 of our premier league wins out of 5. He also played in a few of the Europa League wins. And here is the key bit. he has only played in 1 defeat. Now everyone has a go at me for harping on about Leon, but stats like that do not lie. Come on everyone, have a go about Leon Osman now! I truly believe that when he is fit, he will play the right side allowing Mirallas to go left and then a choice of Barkley, Naismith or Eto'o behind Lukaku. But only 1 of them at a time. And that is where our problem currently lies. He plays 1 of them on the right or left, then jiggles the team to fit in the other. When that doesn't work, he tries another combination. Too many changes! With regard to poor signings: Robles, McGeady, Kone, Alcaraz. With regard to other signings, players are either on their last legs. Barry/Eto'o or too much is expected of them for their age. Besic/McCarthy should only be subs at this stage of their careers. Rant over.

Agree0 Disagree0

Surely is not stupid enough or blind to the fact that this man has no answers or solutions to the situation we find ourselves in, As for those saying we are to good to go down, well not on current form. Should be sacked this weekend and get someone in who knows that you build and ready your team from the back first.

Agree0 Disagree0

Completely agree with these posts; very concerned; very

Agree0 Disagree0

Players on there last legs degsy? youve left Osman off that list. Come on degs do you really believe Osman could or would make any difference to this shower of sh*te we have had the misfortune to be watching this season. Mate Lionel Messi couldn't make any difference to this shambles. Well maybe he could replace Robles in goal.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jimmy c, if you read my post properly, I state things about the players he has signed. Yes I know Osman is on his last legs. But he has scored 2 goals this season and been on the winning side 4 times in the Premier League and a few in the Europa. I don't think there is another outfield player who can say that. Plus, he has only been involved in one loss! When he has played we have done ok.and that's because we don't have another right sided midfielder other than McGeady who RM seems to love. but I think is terrible. The other thing I was saying was that the team balance is then effected in trying to play Barkley, Eto'o and Naismith in the team. He tries to do it by using the right of midfield for one of them or even putting Barkley in the holding midfield spot. People seem to misunderstand what I am saying about Osman. All I mean is that he still has some worth and the team balance sorts itself out. The other thing RM has tried is switching Mirallas to the right and then putting one of the above or Pienaar on the left side. It's too musc shuffling around of players. They don't know what is expected of them and it's a case of round pegs in square holes. He even played Osman in holding midfield for the away leg in Wolfsburg. Osman ahd a surprisingly good game because that is def not his position. The whole thing stinks of confusion. But yes, I do think Osman has and will again add balance to the team. Wait and see when he is fit. whoever the manager is by then. People forget he has played 400 odd games and scored 50 plus goals. that's a goal every 8 games. Better than Barry or McCarthy who average less than 1 per season. Better than any of our other midfielders other than Naismith.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with much you say Degsy but Leon Osman will not sort out this mess if and when he becomes fit. The rot has set in and I don't see us winning any games in January. Even if we scrape past West Ham this week in the Cup, it's only going to be papering over the cracks. The next 4/5 games in the League will see us in the bottom 3 and a long, hard struggle to get out of it with Martinez still making excuses, but playing the same tactics.
Get rid whilst someone else could be given the transfer window to spend some money to get us out of the mire.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jan 2015 21:54:07
So in other words jimmy, when osman is back we will make a drastic improvement and win the league #onemanteam #ossieforballond'or #osmanbetterthanmaradona

Agree0 Disagree0

Please do not change my words Swan. All I am saying is that we did better with Ossie in the team and stats prove that. Added to which, your love child Aiden McGeady together with your other fantastic players that we debated many times (Alcaraz, Kone etc) have done sod all. These are the players that you told me were brilliant signings. Look back at your past posts and see what we debated. You have a very short memory my friend. You also told me that RM was a much better manager than Moyes and got quite rude when I defended Moyes' record. You told me the football was negative and RM was wonderful. You also said we should get rid of Howard. I did point out that it is best to get a replacement in before "getting rid" of all these players including Howard. Well now you will have your wish. At least for the next few games. I also remember talking about lack of goals from our new signings. Well please do tell me how many goals have: Alcaraz, Kone, McGeady, Barry, McCarthy, Besic, Eto'o, Atsu contributed? Only Lukaku has scored suff goals and he is now suffering from lack of support. This is where I think Ossie is invaluable. Only time will tell. I do say we will be in a much stronger position with a fit Osman. He has chipped in with a few assists and goals so far. His career average is 1 in 8. Take Eto'o out of the above list and that's more than all the others added together! I know you don't like Osman. I also know that some of your memory seems to go out the window when it comes to these debates. This is the manager and squad of players that you assured me was going to be peaches and cream!

Agree0 Disagree0

I forgot to add.unless we sign a right sided midfielder and a center half of quality, I do see us going down.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jan 2015 16:16:37
Please don't twist my words then degsy, I hate mcgeady, I also was probably the one begging on here most NOT to sign him. I also don't recall saying alcaraz and kone were fantastic signings, you do think osman will solve our problems, isn't that right?. Do you honestly think osman is our best player? don't give me some rubbish either, is leon osman evertons best player.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jan 2015 10:10:05
I'll be totally honest I knew we wouldn't get a result at Newcastle but I was conviced we would at hull it does seem like the heads have gone down, when I'm watching us play and we have possession of the ball there is no movement into space no one wants the ball that's why it either goes backwards or played into a dangerous area where we then lose the ball. When it comes to RM we can't pull the plug mid season we won't get relegated not going to be a season to remember mind but we won't go down, however in the summer is when we will re evaluate the managers position. The reason I say this is who would u replace him with I've read things like pulis, mclaren and even moyes all of which are either not good enough or dis-loyal now if we took one of them on they would ask for a four year contract and we would prob change manager again at the end of the season everton is a club run correctly not a laughing stock like others with a revolving doors for managers I'm sorry fellow blues but it's going to be hard to watch but we will have to stick with the manager for now. 10 home games left win half and a couple of away games sorted.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Taz how can anyone say we won't get relegated and believe it? on current form we are defo candidates for the drop.To me Bobby is oblivious to what's happening, and i'm sh*tting myself that by the time he realises if indeed he does were going to need to win 10 outta our last 5 games to avoid the drop if you get my meaning This is a serious situation we find ourselves in.

Agree0 Disagree0

You know what I think a lot of folk just don't understand how serious this could get in a short period of time did you know we are two points worse off than Wigans 2012-13 season, we all what happened to them. Unless there is a drastic change I can't see us picking up points in the next three games and as it proved yesterday those teams around the bottom three are playing a lot better than us. WE ARE IN TROUBLE!

Obviously another poor display this weekend and despite RM's positive attitude to put things right going forward the harsh reality is CL or top 6 are no longer possible and that a relegation battle is looming, the real problem is that I'm not sure we are equipped for this, look at the performances of Burnley and Leicester this weekend they dug in and refused to give up, who is at present ready to stand up for this type of game?
Barry again lucky not to have conceded a pen in the opening minutes, how many more let offs will this guy get? We need to get back to basics quickly the jan fixtures are tough and we will have to fight for every point possible!
hopefully a couple of signings can spark the team and give it a lift!

Is anyone else seriously considering giving the FA Cup tie a miss, as there's only so much that even the most loyal fan can take?
Is there anyone else who'll be nauseated by the usual pre-match BS from the manager and players about how they want to do well, how they're determined to put things right, how we need to play with intensity, etc., etc.?
Is everyone expecting another gutless, toothless, clueless, hopeless, useless display by our players now that are completely bereft of any self-belief or any tactical wherewithal to handle an opposition's approach?
Is there anyone else who dreads the repeat of post-match excuses about refereeing decisions, defensive mistakes, etc., etc., after we - as many now expect - are hammered (pun intended) by a side that big Sam will set up & send out to ruthlessly exploit our weaknesses?
RM is definitely marmite: either love him (with unswerving loyalty) or hate him (get rid now). Once those extremes are replaced by the fans not caring at all, then, in my humble opinion, out fate is sealed and the manager will have taken us to places we only dreamed about: the nightmare of fixtures against Championship (not Champions League) clubs!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Jan 2015 05:02:29
Going out of the 2 cups maybe a blessing disguise. At least it would prevent a full Wiganization. RM may even focus on the league a bit assuming of course that Bill doesn't man up and save us by firing him.

Cowpat you were having a go at poeple for having a moan the other day, I'm guessing three loses over Christmas is the threshold to justify a moan

Agree0 Disagree0

Anything is possible results-wise of course, but our next five Premier League fixtures are:
Man City (home) - far too strong for our appalling defending
West Brom (home) - their new manager Pulis knows how to out-tactic us
Crystal Palace (away) - another new manager and a side that has done a number on us in recent meetings anyway
Liverpool (home) - we'll be ripe for the taking by the darkside
Chelsea (away) - this could be our worst scoreline since losing 0-7 to Arsenal almost ten years ago
I can see (at best) a few draws, but (at worst) it might be five more defeats - which would drop us right into the relegation mire. Plus, that run of fixtures ends after the transfer window closes, so we'd be stuck with the same demoralised squad of players.
Poor results, unacceptable performances, low morale, questionable preparation & rest/recovery, ineffective treatment of injuries, bizarre training methods, eccentric approach to man-management, stories being openly leaked about RM's alienation of players, etc., etc. Despite all of this, BK doesn't look ready to rattle RM's cage, let alone call it a day on RM's tenure. That being the case, by now I would have expected another of those BK interviews where he talks warmly and supportively about RM being the right man to take Everton forward and how BK and the board accept that injuries, European competition, etc., etc., have been crucial and that at no time has RM's position been under the remotest threat.
Loyalty is fine, but blinkered mis-placed belief (hope?) is fatal surely.

4 straight defeats. Not looking good for the team, or the manager. I don't know how we will turn this around with our next few fixtures against City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool (not in that order), and at this rate I can't see us sticking with Roberto. If he were to go, who would be your ideal replacements? Realistically, of course.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Jan 2015 01:43:54
Looking at the upcoming fixtures I can see us getting only 2 more points by the end of February. If something (and I mean manager) doesn't change urgently we're doomed. We're sinking fast and the manager is too clueless/arrogant to stop it and the players have lost interest - probably because they've lost faith.

This is my little lads first football season where he's showing an interest and he's asking why we don't support a good team. I feel like reporting myself to social services for making him watch this depressing drivel.

Martinez is thrashing about for excuses, bad luck, bad calls from the ref, injuries, in part all are true, but what he fails to see or recognise, is his part in this mess. With the exception of McCarthy, none of his signings have come off, he refuses to see that sides have worked him out in a tactical seance, but the most damming part in our mess, is the joke of a preseason, spent as a pundit, instead of the job he is very well paid to do, detailed preperation, that is the coner stone of any club with real ambition. This man talks a good game, but in reality, he is totally out of his depth, for gods sake Bill, get rid before we go the same way as wigan.

you don't win games if you're losing one-on-ones all over the pitch

I just heard the Hull coach crowing that that was their best performance for a while - yeah, because you were playing everton who have fallen to bits
