Moving away from our poor game yesterday.

Just had an idea but I think it is quite interesting. Imagine if we had an end of season tournament (similar to mls all star game) where a manager picks a squad of 16 players regardless of nationality and 16 u21 players to represent the premier league against teams from france, Spain, Italy and Germany and they can play a mini league tournament over a few days.

Imagine the teams and players. Who would you pick to represent premier league and other leagues?

How could Spain fit Messi, Suarez, neymar, bale, Ronaldo, etc in one team. Be a good problem to have though.

Premier league - aguero, Costa, lukaku, de bruyne, ibra? Tough one.

Hi Ed am on holiday in Majorca and just seen the game, I have to say what was Robles doing when the the goals went in he didn't move, I agree with the other posters it was only one poor game but I don't think R K will put up with this for much longer I reckon come the summer we will see a new goalkeeper and a change in our defence, lots of injuries also Rom and Ross not at their best, but I will always be a blue onwards to the next game and hopefully we will get something out of it cheers, GuernseyBlue.

The worst thing about losing is all the boo boys come out.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed025's Note - it was poor anom but its only one game and we still have a lot to play for mate..

02 Apr 2017 14:54:36
We were poor but it was one loss. Not many teams win at anfield.
One thing that is really apparent is all the top 4/ 5 teams have a couple of players who can take the game by the scruff of the neck and produce something brilliant even when the team is having an off day.

Couthino, mane, Silva, debruyne, ibrahimovich, Rooney, hazard, Sanchez can all do this. Unfortunately as good as we are as a team we do not have anyone who can do that. Maybe Davies or lookman in the future but Barkley and lukaku do not have those qualities.

That is why the top teams get wins when maybe they shouldnt, take the derby at Goodison as a prime example, should have been a draw but for a piece of brilliance. Until we have 1 or 2 players like that we will always drop a certain amount of points a season, points which are needed to break into that top 4.

I haven't really seen many boo boys to be honest just disappointed fans as we had a really good chance to end our curse, but always said this was a transition season and we are exceeding where I thought we would be and up until sat we had a long shot at 4th which for his 1st season is fantastic progress.

another big game Tuesday night. hoping the boys have something to prove and we can get a result at a very tough away ground.

Funny, even after decent runs we are always poor after international break!

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - we certainly are when half of our squad come back injured wakka..

03 Apr 2017 17:35:17
Don't forget the splinters in Ross's arse!

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - its his brain that was the worry on saturday wakka. :)

03 Apr 2017 17:39:40
Agree with that, not exactly sure what he was thinking or if indeed he was, lucky to stay on the pitch!
There were times I was worried it could turn into another Chelsea hiding, and felt for the young lads out there!

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - not an easy one for the kids wakka and for me not the game to throw them in, but ronnie obviously had a different perspective and im sure he knows the game better than me mate..

04 Apr 2017 17:09:01
Sometimes Ed025 I don't understand the logic, huge derby can break some kids confidence when they have a bad one, Pennington was exposed and shown he is not ready for this level, others seem to adapt, I didn't think Holgate was great but coped much better and if we had another right back then he would most likely have been the third centre back.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - it was a strange one for me as well wakka, i felt sorry for young pennington that was too big a game for the lad at this stage imo mate..

02 Apr 2017 13:16:52
seeing yesterdays game makes me think lukaku doesn't really fit in our team, sure he's a great finisher but i just think we may need more of a "footballer" who can also score goals, thoughts?

02 Apr 2017 14:53:25
I have to say jason we do set ourselves up to best suit Lukaku which makes us a little predictable and if Lukaku isn't on his game doesn't give us many other options apart from hitting teams on the break.

Agree1 Disagree0

02 Apr 2017 17:55:50
Liverpool are the leagues highest scorers yet don't play with an out and out striker and therefore with the goals being spread its harder to single out the threat, stop Lukaku scoring and you stop Everton scoring and that is what we need to address.

04 Apr 2017 17:05:52
Cant believe we are criticising him for one bad game! he wasn't the only player who had n off day pretty much all of them did! I cannot understand some of these posts, top clubs want to buy him, we cannot buy anyone as good because we do not have champions league!
I am sometimes not quite sure what some of the posters on here really expect from the club, we have exciting times ahead but they constantly knock our best.

I'm no expert but believe we played right into their hands yesterday. If you look at the teams that best beat Liverpool this season. Most sit back and absorb the pressure than hit them fast on the counter when defence pushes up. (Even niasse scored against them)
We tried to play them at their own game and the pace of their attack, coupled with individual mistakes and players off the boil led to our defeat.

Rk and his staff and players need to learn from this and be adaptable a lot quicker than we were. I'm still positive long term anf think we will come good but we going to have low points too. Need to get a result against a weakened Utd side on Tuesday.

Stats wise there was not a lot of difference, for me apart from having an off Day, was when Lukaku Barkley or any other player got the ball, one of their players attacked the guy with the ball and closed them down, if you look at Their first two goals we backed off instead of going straight for the player with the ball, this allowed both to get closer to goal and get their shots in.

Lots of people calling for Ross and Rom to be sold because they didn't perform yesterday, when what we actually need is quality back ups for these positions so we can sub them when they aren't performing. If we keep them in the summer, then please RK let's go and get some quality competition for them.

Just a word to the reds who popped in our site yesterday
All teams have bad days and play poorly.
You lot are great against the big boys but lost to Burnley, him, Bournemouth, etc.
Doesn't make you a poor side just like yesterday doesn't make us a poor side. Sunderland is a poor side.
We had some poor manager decisions and some players were off it (As usual at anfield) but it's gone now. got to pick ourselves up and get stuck in at Utd on Tuesday (who also have major injury issues) .
Could be no better time to play them.

{Ed025's Note - i agree geoff..

I love the way they all come out the woodwork when they win but disappear when they lose as far as yesterday goes it was disappointing to lose but they just shaded it not bad considering we had 4 youngsters playing and this was always a transitional season for us in which we have done better than we expected let them enjoy it we are on our way up.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Apr 2017 10:44:36
no offence bluey, but the reds just shading it. they were dominant in every area and bullied our players especially rom and ross.
i thought the youngsters did ok up to a point, but were let down by the senior players, e.g guaye letting coutino slip pass him leaving pennington exposed. i also think joel was'nt at his best.
most dissapointing thing though was koeman not changing the setup when any man and his dog could see that it was'nt working, also thought post match interview was a bit matinezesque.

Our away form over the last 20 years at the top 5 clubs is just embarrassing what is it with us as for yesterday Pennington should have been hooked move Holgate to right back and mirallas should have been on this all should have happened at half time and to say he's proud of that performance is our manager taking us for fools maybe selling ross and rom wouldn't be the end of the world if we get top money and invest it all in the team we still have this inferiority complex against a full red kit.

Wrong team yesterday. Defenders bad midfield bad. Golden boot, I think we need to give him the boot.

O my god. Barkley's first bad game in about 4 or 5 months and people get on his back straight away. All for selling Lukaku because of all that goes with it.

But Barkley? No way. Koeman did get it wrong. It's going to happen now and then. No need to sell off our best players and absolutely slate the manager after one bad game.

What about the form the club is in since the new year? One bad game and people paint us like we're about to get relegated. The Reds had a bad spell a couple of months and recovered fully. I expect us to kick on and not put too much emphasis on this.

Even though our recorded is bad against top teams. That won't change over night. If our record against top teams were good then we would be at the very top challenging for CL. Or is it that people would rather we beat the Reds, the Mans, Chelsea, Arsenal (o wait, we did beat them) and lose to the likes of Sunderland, Hull etc.

We will beat the top teams when we break into the top 4. Give Koeman and the players a chance they haven't even one season over them yet.

Agree3 Disagree1

{Ed025's Note - fair points mate..

02 Apr 2017 00:37:21
Sitting here a bit worse for where and if am honest I knew we would get beat today and I don't mean because we usually do, as a team we have a first 11/ 12 players that can compete with the top 6 but after that we are struggling, we have got a lot of really good lads coming through but we cannot have 3 or 4 of them in the team right now and expect to beat the teams above us.
Lukaku was very poor today as he usually is against the better teams, he gets called a flat track bully and his stats seem to back that up
Sellling him and Barkley in the summer will be looked upon as us not being able to compete with the so called bigger clubs and if we use the money to buy 5 or 6 15 -: 20 mill payers then that will confirm it
If we sell Lukaku for 60 -70 million then we should use every penny to replace him and the same with Barkley
Selling players doesn't mean you are a poor team but how you replace them does
Now I have wrote this while I am sat on the couch thinking should I get the last cab out of the fridge so if I have written a pile of crap just ignore it
Take care blue boys.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - If you're sitting in the fridge waiting on a taxi I think you should get some shuteye mate :-D

02 Apr 2017 10:14:10
S 1878 on the cans or not I could not have put it better. Players from teams like Wolves for example and Burnley can compete against Liverpool. It is absolutely inexcusable that we play the way we do against the so called big teams.

We need players who's minds and positivity are equal to their playing ability. Lukaku certainly isn't. He can bully the small teams but rubbish against the big boys.
