Anybody think DM might try to sign any of our players in January and of course WHO??

{Ed025's Note - hope he likes mcgeady.. :)

Wouldnt mind if he took howard, osman, pienaar, mcgeady, joel or kone with him, I think he will try and get arteta from arsenal

Talking of memory Swan, remember our disputes about Anichebe being sold for the same amount as Kone cost and me saying that at least Anichebe had youth on his side? I remember you telling me that Kone was far superior and would do a great job for us. Strange how we remember things differently. I see he is on your list of let's get rid of these. By the way when our squad is ultra thin and we can't get a team out because we are 6 players down, who are we signing to replace these useless players? Goalkeeper should be an interesting one. You suggest we play one of the kids I take it?

Agree0 Disagree0

Why not Barkley too, get more money for him as he's been useless and not offered anything recently other than dawdling on the ball, giving it away and shooting miles wide or over.

Yes I remember our disputes, I also remember it being on the basis kone actually played, I also remember commenting months ago saying get rid when I found out he was riding camels rather than playing football. I also remember putting 'or kone' in my first post, I don't recall saying 'and kone' as in, take them all at once, do you? Because I dont. That is a list of players I wouldn't mind leaving at some point in the near future, can I add atsu and gibson in that list too. Howie, come on mate, surely you know real sociedad can't afford what martinez values him at given his age, i'd sell him to anyone who could afford him though, plus would moyes take him given he didn't play him while he was here, I don't think he would so that's out of the question, good try though

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree that Real Sociedad appear to have have no money for incoming transfers, so they'll have to move players out first (not sure who they've got with any value) or they'll have to get players on loan. Either way, I'm not sure who we've got that we'd be prepared to let go in January - whether permanently or on loan - but RM might have a cunning plan to release some player(s) and bring in replacements that'll surprise us. It'd be interesting to see which of our players would actually want to play under DM - in Spain or elsewhere.

Vella cowpat sid worth a bit like maybe we could do swap deal with 7 mil plus pienaar

Here we go Swan. I know this will wind you up, but I looked up the stats: McGeady played 12 with also 2 sub appearances 1 goal. Osman played 6 with 7 sub appearances 2 goals. Working on my memory which ain't too good these days. I can remember 1 or 2 assists for McGeady and 3 or 4 for Osman. To sum up, McGeady plays all those minutes as a much more attacking player (the other night he dug in I know) and makes a game changing moment in every 3rd or 4th game whereas Osman plays sometimes a deeper role and with less time on the pitch makes a difference probably twice as often. I still cannot find how often either player loses possession, but I know from watching that McGeady loses possession much more. The thing that irked me was that I had a gut feeling this was the case, yet everyone was singing McGeady's praises and slagging Osman off 6 or 7 games back. I hope you take this in the positive way it is meant. It is not directed at you other than the fact you said someone had looked up the stats. All the best, Degsypulford

You remember 4 assists for osman? You see I only remember one, against palace, another match in which he was dreadful, by the way. My memory is probably a bit better because I remember yesterday you said we would see less posts from you about osman as long as people shut up rightly having a go at him. No one has mentioned him today and already you're jumping in defending ye fella again. You see you have already cintradicted both posts with the other, I mentioned svenny getting the stats, you replied and you're starting new threads to cause more arguments. Being completely honest I remember 1 osman assist and 2 goals (one of which was set up by aiden the devil mcgeady, but that's none of my business) and I remember 2 assists for mcgeady and one goal, remember i'm being completely honest. Both of osmans goals were handed to him on a plate, mcgeadys goal involved a very difficult bit of technique. I also remember mcgeady getting 2 goals for ireland, why do I bring this up? Where are osmans goals for england? Surely the best player in the everton team can get called up to your beloved woy hodgsons england squad, oh wait, he cant. The door swings both ways degsy, you keep bringing osman into everything that you post, eventually people are going to reply due to it being a bit boring now I wonder is this repetetiveness purely because leon osman is your favourite player (a fact) or because you desperatly seek attention, it is a wonder. I would personally love to talk about everton in general and not debate that osman isn't the best thing since maradonna, which he isnt, i'd love to discuss the youngsters, the goalkeeping situation, rumours or how good our away support is but you really drag me down with your constant need to shove osmans greatness down peoples throats, change the tone every now and again and we will be grand, okay? X

Agree0 Disagree0

Well what can I say? I was just replying to your bit about stats that I admittedly started a while back. If it's any consolation to you, I also feel pretty fed up debating Osman. but my memory of his assists is different to yours. I also noted that the two goals we scored the other night had his involvement in that they had possession, Osman won the ball and within two passes we had scored on both occasions. But then again, I might have that wrong too. You are right, it seems to be developing into McGeady is great for you and Osman is crap. Whereas I see it as McGeady is out of sorts for now and Osman has regained some fitness and is playing well. What can I say, I expected a barrage from you. possibly with more insults. but a barrage none the less. Swan, we both support the Blues, we obviously have opposing views on certain matters. I was only trying to explain my point of view. But if Osman, McGeady or anyone has a good game tomorrow, I will sing their praises. A bit of sarcasm now.I guess I always see the Blue bottle as half full, whereas you see the Blue bottle as half empty.

Agree0 Disagree0

By the way, my favourite player is difficult to name. I start with Howard and see all his positives. Then Hibbert and the same. Then Coleman. Do you get the drift? I just love our players. Talking memory, I remember your posts earlier in the season talking about relegation and how bad things were. I remember saying keep off the mogadons to you and how we had started bad due to a terrible pre-season schedule, a terrible first 8 game fixture list where we were playing the probable top 6 and injuries to key players such as Mirallas which would all change after another 6 games and hey, here we are looking all the better for it. Keep smiling.

Not exactly Everton related, but after his recent comments & his latest "dummy out of the pram" incident, 3 words that sum up Roy Keane - ship, sinking, rat.

{Ed001's Note - that was almost word for word what I said on the editor's widget when I heard about him going. He is happy to criticise others, but the moment he starts getting any blame he runs away and hides.}

Keane is a prat. Anyway I'm off to watch my boys best supporters in the land we'll be back at Goodison soon MOT

Eds: any chance of a voting poll - "Should the club give Luke Garbutt a contract extension? Yes or No"

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I will add that to the list now for you as a poll of the day. Which reminds me of something I was told by a member of your staff recently, I forgot to pass it on to Ed025 for his info first, but best post it now before I forget again! Anyway this member of staff told me that he was among a number who advised Roberto to take the money for Baines and to go with Oviedo and Garbutt when United offered money. Apparently it wasn't as clear cut a decision as was made out at the time. A lot within the club thought it would be best to sell Baines and use the money elsewhere, especially at the academy, who think Garbutt is the way forward. Martinez made the decision to reject the offer more because he felt it would send out the wrong message to the team in general if they took the money.}

I was told that Baines had originally agreed to sign for Sunderland when we originally went in for him. He had apparently agreed all the details and was about to put pen to paper when he said to Roy Keane, "but if Everton come in for me, it is a no brainer and I am signing for them!" So maybe he had something to do with not moving to Utd? Apparently Keane agreed and the rest is history.

Agree0 Disagree0

Perhaps the info from Ed001 gives extra credence to RM's comments about Baines moving into a holding midfield role at some stage. I for one would certainly like to keep all three players - Baines, Oviedo and Garbutt - in our squad and therefore cover several positions (mainly n the left).

One match at a time, but -
important though the result and performance away to Tottenham on Sunday will obviously be, I reckon that the match at home to Hull on Wednesday evening (which will be our third game in a week) will be a really tough test of the squad strength and the physical/mental strength of the players. If we want to compete as a club at the highest level domestically and in Europe, then the players must not let their intensity and performances and attitude drop in any shape or form. As RM has said, it's about having a 'big club' mentality.

RM should show Barkley a rerun of the match and tell him to watch De Bruyne. that's what Ross has the ability to do week in week out, see the passes he put through not try to beat 4 men then shoot no matter where you are.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I've no doubt that RM and his coaching staff work with all the players on the training ground and use whatever means they can muster in order to help each individual player continue to develop and improve and work their utmost at maintaining a high standard. I've also no doubt that the senior experienced players mentor the younger players - which I'm sure helps not only the individuals, but also supports team spirit. That's why its so important for new players to have the right character - as well as ability - and Eto'o is a great example of that. How lucky are we to have him - albeit towards the end of his career - at our club?

Agree0 Disagree0

At least RM doesn't berate (publicly at least) Barkley for trying these things - unlike the England manager!

Last season, it was all new with RM at Everton and it seemed to be a case of let's see how we progress and where can we finish. I reckon that pretty much every fan was pleased with the football we played and how we did by and large.
This season, after a defensively-worrying early set of matches, RM has settled us down results-wise - especially in Europe - and got us keeping clean sheets again (albeit luckily on a few occasions). RM has also now had three transfer windows to make changes to the squad - and I expect that he should have completed his major initial player changes after two more windows. From then on it should hopefully just be a case of ticking over the squad - aging players out, new players in, and youngsters coming through.
One other thing imho is that RM now looks to have - and clearly talks with - a steelier determination this season. He seems to have added to last season's refreshing positivity and is at a stage where he now truly believes he's got something special going on at Everton. I do hope so!
:-)

Whilst I agree with all you say Cowpat, I also look at the team and squad and see: Howard, Hibbert, Coleman, Distin, Jagielka, Stones, Baines, Oviedo, Garbutt, Gibson, Mirallas, Osman, Pienaar, Barkley and Naismith all playing the major role in our season. All players with EFC prior to RM. Most Moyes signings. I agree that Lukaku, Barry and McCarthy have been also excellent signings and have contributed lots. However, I add that Besic had his first good game the other night. Eto'o has also been excellent. I also add that Roble, Alcaraz, Mcgeady, Kone, Atsu have not impressed me. I agree that RM talks with a steelier determination, but I hope rumours of Wigan's Maloney being our next signing is wrong. at 31 or however old, this does not impress me. To sum up, I am quite happy with the progress, but am a little concerned at the quality of signings overall. with 3 exceptions.

For those who can't get to Goodison Park on Monday evening for the U-21 match against Sunderland (7pm kick-off), it is being shown live on ssn Sports 1. For all their faults, Sky are showing several clubs' U-21 fixtures live this season, but my understanding is that this is first time Everton have been shown - and I don't know if we'll feature again. Still, it'll be good to see some of our youngsters playing.
