Steven Pienaar says that it was advice from David Moyes to be more selfish in the final third that helped him pitch in with four goals after returning to Goodison on loan from Tottenham.
The South African midfielder scored just twice in 18 appearances in the half-season before he left Everton in 2010 but doubled that tally after January this year as the Blues pushed on into seventh place in the Premier League.

"The Everton manager sat me down and told me to be a bit selfish and get in the box to score goals," Pienaar told The Sowetan in his native Johannesburg.

"When you return from injury you have more hunger and excitement for the game, but the season is over now and I have to show that same form for the national team."

The 30 year-old is back home as Bafana Bafana prepare for two 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and Botswana but he was also quizzed about his future back in England.

"I have to go back [to White Hart Lane]," he says. It's not ideal I have a great feeling at Everton but I don't have a choice. I have a contract there."

Pienaar made no secret of the wrench of having to say goodbye to his Everton teammates after such a successful return to the Blues and rumour has it that he has told the North London club that he will only sign for Everton this summer.

He will have to wait to see, though, whether David Moyes has the capital available to bring him back permanently on the one hand and whether Spurs will play hardball over the price on the other.

Hi ed, as you have said Naismith will be signing and this has come from the rangers eds I for one believe you. You would have no reason to miss inform us blues as you run this site very, very, well and you want the best for our team

Any news of a takeover, and to all the other rs who never leave a name, concentrate on getting a manager before coming on here and talking crap. Go and talk about all theses world class players you are getting. Has it not occurred you won't buy any one as Kenny wasted your money and the new manager will want his own players so go back to dream land.
And the new manager will be sacked by Christmas

I think we should all trust in moyes evaluation. Let's be fair he doesn't get it wrong too often. Therefore if moyes decides to bring Naismith in I'll be confident he'll be boss until he proves otherwise.

Pienaar is a must and dempsey would be nice but only at the right price maybe 2-3 million tops as he is getting on a bit. i dont think donovan was at his best when with us this season and dont particurly think we should be wasting say £5 mill on a player his age. we should be looking to bring in younger talent that we can adjust to our team and our style.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

What? Donovan had 6 assists in 9 games, and the majority of those games were when we were really struggling because Jelavic hadn't really emerged. He was superb, cant wait to see what he does with an inform Jelavic upfront.

Something's gotta give this summer. The Pienaar transfer will probably run all summer if Spuds are going to accept a lower offer from us. Pienaar has to stand his ground and hold out for us. Iv got everything crossed

I still think Baines should play left wing for England instead of stuart (drowning at international and prem level) Downing!

C'mon Roy see sense

Gods Doctor

Believable6 Unbelievable1

Baines is one of the best players in the prem, england should be playing him, he is better than cashley cole

Bez the blue {Ed025's Note - both good players...but baines is more of a goal threat..

I think that pienaar is purposely burning his bridges with tottenham, stating that "he has to go back but wants to stay" also saying moyse is a better manager that redknapp... I said as soon as he left, he would regret leaving and want to come back and he wouldn't get played...........

Hiya ed025 and 024. Not been on the site for a week or so just been reading through comments and saw that both ed's have replied and confirmed that Naismith from Rangers will be signing?
How confident are you that he will sign? Is it a definite signing for us?
Iv'e not saw it on any other website's or SkySports News or even the official website so find it strange that both 025 and 024 ed's are convinced that it a "done" deal?
Please reply and let me know what's happening he's a decent player Naismith would like him to be at Everton next season,
Cheers
PaulEFC {Ed025's Note - basically paul, we were informed by the scottish eds, who are very well connected, that the deal has been done, we have no reason to disbelieve them, as other deals such as the jelavic one, were spot on!..

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Ok cheers ed025. Thanks for the reply, let's hope it happens then, think it will make a massive difference to how we start the season if we can get some faces in early on in the transfer window rather than last day deals!!
Pienaar and Naismith to sign early in the summer will be brilliant.
Looking forward to next season.
PaulEFC {Ed025's Note - me too paul..

What to do when the season ends? Get home from work and scour the internet on transfer news on the mighty blues for a good 3 hrs atleast, getting our hopes up about the thought of signing a player we never realy heard of but get excited that the club could of finaly released some funds for David Moyse to play with. The son of a Russian billionere has come to our salvation, a araibic prince with money to burn buying a new ground. All these thoughts dreams and nightmares! we have about our beloved club and i wouldnt change a thing we dont need millions to susceed we are everton and we will do it the hard way but never less we will prevail coyb stokesylaaaa

Why can't we just play 2 up front properly... as in side by side

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Because 4-5-1 has worked for the last ten years

Agree0 Disagree0

But we havn't won the league or done anything really really good, two strikers could give us a push to the next level

Agree0 Disagree0

No team plays 4-4-2 anymore

moden football has made this happen, said it before, if we played 4-4-2, the likes of united would run wild in midfield.

4-5-1, is what its about now, stop dreaming of the 80's

Believable2 Unbelievable6

Ed, this is a lie, Greg is my friend's cousin and I was speaking to him on the phone yesterday, I asked him what was happening with Baines, he said he hasn't got 'inside sources' but Everton have firmly denied it to his face {Ed025's Note - cheers mate..

Fellow Blues and Eds (24 and 25 you are in both)

Amidst all this speculation Who goes? Who arrives? Who said this and who said that there is one piece of advice I'll proffer to you and I quote

"I don't care what the RS say what the f... Do I care cos I only know that there going' be a show when the Everton boys are there"

In Moyes we trust, guessing and hoping and speculation are all well enough but we all need to be patient until the main man acts then let's get excited and watch the others tremble and fall in our wake Everton are coming hear our roar feel the ground tremble.

COME ON YOU BLUES

Fellainis dad is just a pushy parent that needs to fill his time more usefully - not sure that Felli listens to him completely because he signed for us again didn't he - and Fellis dad was trying to get him out of everton - grass aint always greener and we could be awesome next year - he may be better staying for another year and giving it a real good go with everton

Never mind the Kopites being deluded and thinking they're still a huge club who every player wants to play for, the other day, a R/S said to me on the bus "Dalglish was a better manager than David Moyes" (here I gave him a disgusted look) " Dalgish actually won a trophy. Moyes, he's never won anything for Everton has he? So he's a crap manager" now that angered more than when the R/S think they're getting Hazard and Cavani. I said to him that when Moyes took over we were nearly getting relegated every year and he's made a top team again, challenging for Europe even though he's had like no money to spend. He still said that because he hadn't won anything, he's a crap manager. Thing is though, if you based it on that, not only is Moyes a crap manager, so is Brendan Rodgers, Paul Lambert, the manager they're about to appoint Roberto Martinez, etc....

Rant over :)

J.D {Ed024's Note - Moyes is a top manager

Believable8 Unbelievable0

How much did they spend last year compared to us if king kenny is so good why did they finish 8th and why did he get sacked

Does anybody think there could've been more to the pienaar and Saha swap than we were led to believe? maybe he was always going to return now that spurs have released him? He scored 3 from 9 games doesnt make sense that spurs would'nt atleast give him a 1 year contract, I still think he has something to offer.

Any thoughts?
