Would people think i'm crazy if I said we have a chasnce of winning the league never mind get in champions league there is very little in the top five or six teams

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It all depends on whether we strengthen in the Window, and how much by. I have no doubt, that with the current squad, and run of form, that we'll be up in the top 7 atleast. But with a replacment for Jela and Naismith, and strenghtening at the back, we could probs be in for a shot at top 3.

Ha what happened to the 'Worlds best Striker' (Suarez) and those 'serious' title contenders from across the park?
They have just been beaten twice in a week by decent teams and we are 4th!

Beaten by better teams Mushy. They aren't a team at all. Just rely on Suarez and set pieces for every goal they score. We went to Utd & Arsenal in 4 days and outplayed both of them. Not only are refs biased against them but according to Brenda the footballing world is now jealous of their history. Its how he tries to condone his teams toothless performance. The mans a total joke. Most deluded man on this planet. Plus Borini & Aspas again examples of scandalous spending. Total wastes of money.

Id hold your tongues until the end of the season if I were you guys - I wouldn't want you to embarrass yourselves. I don't expect you to know much about how we've been playing, esp as you have failed to acknowledge the fact that we are without an experienced LB, Sturridge or Gerrard, and also the fact that we have only played one of the top teams at home this half of the season. I wouldn't expect you to like our team but at least be respectful and provide some intelligent banter! Anyway, blinding first half of the season for you guys, i'd like to see both our teams finish top 4, we'll see how it goes eh ;-)

Intelligent banter? Liverpool have spent an absolute fortune over the last 4 transfer windows and we are the better team who play better football with a team of more exciting players. With what they spend they must make the champs league. There is no pressure whatsoever on us to do anything. We just go about our business in a way the country respects. Show me a non red who actually respects liverpool: they don't exist. As for the wait and see, Liverpool have been chasing our rear for several years now. Sooner their fans realise that the better. And don't moan about injuries. Every team has them. that's what signings are for. But I guess it doesn't help when the big money signings you make are a load of c**p. We made 5 changes to our team. We always lose key players and just get on with it.

Great post Bennie. They don't like it up 'em Mr Mainwaring!

Liverpool have had injuries have they? Naww boohoo, we've had Pienaar, Deulofeu, Mirallas, Baines, Gibson, Kone and Jagielka out injured, so don't come looking for sympathy on this page.

Take a look at the money spent on transfers in the last 5 seasons. The RS in 6th with £304 million spent, Everton, in the same period in 19th with £63.5m. A significant difference yet we still finish above you in the last two campaigns. If we had that money I'd wager we'd have finished CL more often than not, so please quit whinging because you have some average players out. You're a one man team who'd be in mid table if it weren't for a certain South American.

Its funny how after every derby its always us nailed with a long term injury. Fellaini broken ankle, Distin had his heel ruined, Baines just had his foot broken. All thanks to tackles from that dirty team. Oh and let's no forget the delightful kicker, Andre Wisdon snapping Ross Barkleys 16 year old leg in 3 places.

I wasn't looking for sympathy or complaining, I, along with 90% of lfc supporters are very happy with how our season has gone so far. There is no shame in losing by a narrow margin to city and Chelsea in their own back yard when we are missing three key players. I was just saying you should save your words until the end of the season :-) its sure to be a close one. I have a lot of admiration for EFC, and the way they do business so no need to be narky about it, I wasn't disrespecting your team was I?

Jags out for 4 weeks, thought Alcaraz did ok today and will only get better with more playing time beside Distin

Bum now we hear Jags out for a month, we can't afford many more hamstrings going.

Alcaraz looked solid today. Was impressed. Did think he forced the defence to be a bit deeper and we looked vulnerable at times but he headed countless balls out of our box. His passing was stand out. Never any panic, set up quite a few attacks. Very composed on the ball. Decent stuff.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Alcaraz was terrific looked very composed like you say forced the line bait deep but. He hasn't played for months, I'm more worried bout mirralas I know he didn't play much but these past weeks he seems uninterested we're has all his skills and trickery gone?
Anyway 4th And Stoke new yr day who again have had a battering so confidence will be low

ratings:

joel-6-difficult to see from the lower bullens whether or not he should of saved their goal.

coleman-7.5-great goal and is the best right back in the league by quite a distance.

alcaraz-8.5-absolute rock at the back and is a very talented footballer, very calm on the ball and limited rodriguez and lambert to very little.

distin-8-solid as usual but maybe could of picked his passes a little better.

baines-7.5-good game on his return and was as reliable as ever.

osman-6-some poor touches and didn't track back but did some nice quick passes here and there.

mccarthy-7-put us in danger at least three times but sprinted back and won the ball each time, neat and tidy whilst also being as aggressive in the tackle as ever.

naismith-7-everton fans are so cruel when it comes to him, if barkley gives the ball away its fine, if naismith does it they moan at him and when he wins it back they do not even clap him, jumps for headers with anyone and worked his socks off as usual.

barkley-6-did some decent runs but his passing was poor and he kept trying to do tricks past people just 20 yards from our own goal.

oviedo-6.5-worked hard and put in a good cross which barkley should of buried but didn't have much room to make much of an impact.

lukaku-6.5-good goal and skinned 4 players and nearly scored again but was a bit slow on the ball at times.

mirallas-6-came on and like against sunderland he was non-existent.

pienaar-6.5-decent on the ball but kept going into tight spaces and losing the ball.

not at our best going forward today but certainly not bad and against a very good team so i'm happy and let's continue

I respect that it's your individual opinion but I would have to disagree with you on a few of those ratings. I think that Barkley showed his class, created chances and worked hard, more like a 7.5. I personally would have given Lukaku an 8 as he worked hard, was a constant menace and created a few good chances. If he played like that every week I would be a happy man. Otherwise I would say you were spot on. Naismith played well and won practically every header he went for, and Alcaraz looked so comfortable in the team. Joel was a little dodgy but showed that he is fairly competent between the sticks. The main thing that today showed me is that we do have strength in depth as the players who came in did well.

Mike Ox Long seems to have a problem with Barkley. God knows why. He is an outstanding performer who 90% of time makes the right decision. I have no idea why he insists on criticising him every week. It makes no sense at all. Maybe he would prefer fellaini in there.

i have no problem with barkley mate it just annoys me how even if someone else clearly had a better game it is always barkley who gets the plaudits, he doesn't make the right decision 90% of the time, against sunderland he had many chances to pass the ball to put lukaku one on one but instead saw someone in the upper gwladys that he liked and kept giving him the ball, he makes many good runs and it is exciting to watch but his final ball is poor and he insists on shooting whenever possible, also against southampton he kept trying to nutmeg people just outside our penalty area and lost the ball nearly every time that put us in danger which again he will learn from and I have no doubt he will be world class but people need to calm down especially pundits who take every opportunity to say what a messiah he is and it is unneeded pressure

Barkley has said himself that he has been told by Roberto to go and play how he wants, and will be given time to learn from his mistakes. He doesn't always make the right decision but I think that while some people will only point out the positives, others seem to be looking for the negatives. The way I see it, we look a far more dangerous team with Barkley in it, and unless his mistakes cost us points I'm not going to worry about it too much. I felt that yesterday the positive play, bursts of pace and attacking threat from Barkley far outweighed his mistakes.

Just seen the Everton goals here on ESPN. Coleman's goal is sheer class, really difficult angle coming across from the right but great acceleration to make the space in the first place. 2nd goal - Quick one touch passing to allow RL a true centre forward finish. Brilliant. I haven't seen the match but how did Baines do on his return and without our captain on the pitch how did we conduct ourselves? Happy New Year to one and all.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - you too mate..

We were dire for most of game - but scored 2 and missed a couple of other chances - Southampton won nearly all 50:50 tackles - looked like they wanted it more and must be gutted to lose - almost every single throw in (ours and there's) ended up with them in possession - how can that happen? When they have throw in we back off and make it easy for them to throw it nicely to their man - when we have a throw in they press all our men and stick the foot in to win possession - finally Osman should just hang up his boots - he just strolls about the place and is rubbish - all of our players looked like they'd had too much Xmas pud and couldn't be bothered running - right from the first minute we had no desire or effort but somehow we got 2 goals and won the game - amazing

Not a bad game today, Made 5 changes and gave the main first team a little rest and still got a great result.

bring on the next 3 games, Stoke, Norwich, west brom, they are all very winnable games, and could set a great end to the year.

Thought McCarthy was brill, Coleman and Barkley where the stand out players

and Alc and Naissy played good aslo

Jags out injured - hamstring. Alacaraz debut, Naismith in, Pienaar & Mirrallas on bench. Barkley starts. Seems a bit unbalanced to me. Why not Stones right back and push Coleman up right MF?
