People keep saying pay the £50m and be done it's not as simple as that all we know is we have had 2 bids of £40m and £45m turned down, the £50m seems to be what media rather than anyone from Swansea both bids being inclusive of £5m add ons.
This is a player that we're buying for 2-3!seasons at his best, after that your left with a player value at £15-20m so £5-10 so paying £50 works out a lot a season so the deal has to be as much under £50m as poss even saving 2/ 3 million is still big.

You're missing the point in the reason you sign players. Does this player make us better? Can that player help us get in the CL? If he does then that player could be worth £120mil in new revenue if we get in it.

A guy from Spain for 30mil could do a job but it may take him a year to settle in. He may not like the country, City. Like Sandro now might not have anyone speak the language or only one or two and become or feel isolated.

It's why players from this league can be worth more than getting a player from outside it. I don't see any other alternatives in the premier to Sig so for me he's worth every penny.

Undefeated so far. How do you moan at that!

Only a draw against a team that got to the QF of the Europa last year away from home. Just in case someone says they are a terrible team.

Turn that frown upside down blues. The glass is half full. Look on the brightside.

Apologies if this seems a stupid question or has been asked before but, with Sandro being a former Barcelona player, does anyone know if he has any type of buy back clause in his contract the same way Deulofeu did?
I know we only got glimpses of him last night but I'd hate for him to become a sensation only to have him whisked away back to Barca.

Doubt it as we didn't buy direct from Barca.

RIB, no, there's no buy-back option and the press in Barcelona are giving Barça a load of stick because of it! So let's sit back and enjoy watching him.

28 Jul 2017 19:39:19
Thanks for the swift replies folks, I was quite sure there wasn't, as Kingo and bretto said we didn't buy him from Barca.
But as has been said on these pages before, contracts and clauses can be complex and complicated.
I just had this sudden fear he'd be an absolute worldy and we'd have him taken from us; fears now dispelled, cheers fellow Blues.

The Journalist claims that Everton will move onto 26 year old Ivory Coast international, Seri, if a deal for the swansea Iceland star can't be done.

Arsenal are favourites to sign the Nice midfielder who got 9 assists and 7 goals in Ligue 1 last season.

Everton Also linked to German international striker Max Kruse according to Italian newspaper "Il Messaggero" .

I'd take both. kruse is a lump of a target man but knows where the net is.

Seri is a deep lying playmaker that is defensively sound andcan get forward quickly

I'd take both in a heartbeat.

Hi ed001 what's your view on gylfi how do you rate him would he suit Everton. Could we get. Better player for £50mil? Thanks looking forward to your reply.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - good question this, I was having a think about it before I answered to try and think if there was someone better for the money. There probably are a lot, but not Premier League proven and ready to just slot in to improve the team immediately, that is the key here.

Siggurdsson is far from the perfect player, he lacks pace, he can be a bit static and on the lazier side when it comes to chasing back at times. However, get him on the ball and he has excellent vision and range of passing, plus his delivery from dead balls is amongst the best in Europe. Decent finisher too.

It does depend on how Koeman intends to use him, but if it is central, as I believe they do, then a lack of pace is not a major problem. With others providing the movement and pace around him, he will make a good playmaker for the side. I think he is what you need to make a step forward now.}

28 Jul 2017 17:38:36
Lazy, he has a massive work rate one of best in the premier division, he is 6ft 2 inches and has large ground covering movement that's get him around the pitch, pace is fine if you can use it, Everton have offered around 45m up now, so they are obviously sure he is one of the best around, they have enough scouting expert around Europ along with Steve Walsh.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I said tracking back, try reading it rather than seeing what you want to see. This is why I don't bother answering questions a lot of times, because people just twist the words to suit their own agenda, rather than reading what is actually said. Did I say he was just lazy? No, so please learn to read proper English.}

28 Jul 2017 17:51:15
Great feedback Ed, I think the key things are he is premiership proven and will make an immediate impact which is what is needed right now.
Also when you look at what has been done in the transfer market are incomings and outgoings are fairly similar albeit our wage bill will have increased so it keeps us in good shape.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he is the right player at the right time, if you ask me. If you were in the Champions League with unlimited funds, ala Citeh, you would not be chasing him, obviously, but you have to find players to improve you that will want to join you at this moment. You have young players to develop, you have veterans to provide experienced heads, the gap is the ones ready to step in and play now. Siggurdsson is defo ready now, he does not need developing and he is not on the downhill slope yet either.}

28 Jul 2017 18:38:12
Hi ed 01

Do you think he will use him as central player as I think he may be used on left with klassen as central figure. Also we have been linked with jothan viera from las palmas who may be good fit but haven't seen much of him and serri who more holding midfield isn't he.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I expect him to be given freedom along with Klaasen, the pair will roam around a fair bit I expect.}

28 Jul 2017 19:09:22
Ah okay thanks ed think he miss piece along with striker and cb.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - agreed.}

28 Jul 2017 19:55:02
From last nights game, it looks as the team will be set up with two (very) wide men. Maybe that was just a tactic against that particular team, trying to stretch the full backs so that Klaasen / Rooney could run in behind?

All the eds input in here is greatly appreciated by the many and it's just a shame that the few don't.

28 Jul 2017 20:35:36
Thanks ed. it's just scary spending that much on a player who no one else has really had any intrest in and with no sell on value because we are still at this moment in time an easy pick for the big guns and normally do well with getting top dollar from them for our players so really we can't moan if others are doing it to us! But 25mil less than rom makes me wonder could we take a risk on say. 23 year old let him reach his potential and move him on for a big profit. Like liverpool may well
Do with coutinho.

{Ed001's Note - you clearly have not. Obviously your just being an arse.}

29 Jul 2017 02:06:12
Do we really need him? Especially at such a high price i would say swerve this deal. I absolutely don't doubt he would improve us to a degree, he has some fantastic qualities that would benefit the team, but i feel we just don't need to add to our midfield/ attacking mid positions. My main concern is because it will inevitably hinder the opportunities for Tom D who i think had a blinder last year and could really kick on again in his 2nd proper season. I want to see the boy play, and i think we could do without Sig for now and see how things work out, maybe reapproach Swansea in January if we really do need him.
IMO sorting out a high quality striker and another CB should be bigger concerns for us right now.

So much doom and gloom from most.

Believable7 Unbelievable6

28 Jul 2017 09:15:26
If what you are all saying is that this the first game and all the new players will take time to gel in, if this is the case then why play them in such an important first round of a knock out competition, I am sure we are all very aware that this is the first game and will in time get better but it a European game not a friendly. Why is it going to be any easier next week if he plays the same team, they looked far fitter and quicker than us last night, it's an opinion and that is what this site is all about.

Believable3 Unbelievable6

28 Jul 2017 10:02:17
Why would RK not play them together? This is effectively still preseason for us and the fact that these games are competitive is a bonus as the players will feel pressure and be challenged. The team we played have already played 5 or so competitive matches so naturally they will be more match fit. The fact that they played two walls of 5, as someone previously mentioned, is always going to be tough to break down. These new lads have only been around 2weeks tops, give them a chance!

Agree4 Disagree0

28 Jul 2017 10:02:31
Uran. You're making no sense. Whatever team we put out was a new team. You do realise we have signed like 5 new players and sold Lukaku.

Agree3 Disagree0

28 Jul 2017 10:10:52
What's so difficult about this? We played a team that in the throws of a season we would beat comfortably. But at the start of a season the lack of sharpness is a leveller. So 1-0 is pretty much a good result. We've one without conceding at home. We all know enough about football to understand that's a good score line to take to their place. Score one on the break and then they need to score three. I can't see them doing that. Can we stop worrying please.

Agree3 Disagree0

28 Jul 2017 11:58:59
You all sound very confident, what makes you think from that performance we are going to win over there, they had more chances to win the game last night, this is a knock stage, all I am saying if we play the same team the same way I don't gives much hope, I hope I am wrong.

Agree1 Disagree5

28 Jul 2017 13:10:58
The difference is that we will have a weeks extra match fitness and we will know what to expect from them. We also have a far better team.

I think we'll be capable of scoring there regardless. I also think he needs to start with Ramirez. Calvert-Lewis was ok but Ramirez looks sharper.

28 Jul 2017 14:30:50
I sincerely hope I am wrong with my opinion and you all correct, I really mean that, just that on the evidence of last night I can't see it, maybe I been a bit harsh, I am not dull and gloom on our future, just that we have know this game was coming up and there should be no excuses over the fitness levels going into a European knock out first round game.

Agree0 Disagree1

28 Jul 2017 15:35:21
Uran, based on your analysis there should also have been no excuse to only win 2-1 against a team from Kenya. The simple fact is we need to gain fitness and sharpness, with so many new players it is inevitable it will take a few games for the players to gel, to learn who makes runs and where etc.
We got the win, that's all that matters.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2017 16:47:37
Think of it this way. when have Everton ever impressed in pre-season. I can't remember the last time. but apart from the off blip here and there. they have always improved. new starters last night were klaasen, Rooney, Keane, Martina, Sandro etc.

It takes time for a new group of players to get an understanding. never mind Match sharpness.1-0 was not great But for next week, they will have had more time to improve their understanding, and I'm sure they are their own worst critics. chill and see what develops.

When you are talking about the sums being paid for players in this window. It seems inconveivable if not baffling to me that Everton having offered the equivalent of 45 mill knowing that the sum required for Sigurdson is 50 mill and also knowing the Swansea owners intransigence on this, should now choose to draw the line when only 5 mill (yes I know it is a large sum but we are talking relevance here) short. If the line was going to be drawn, you would think it would be drawn 10 or 15 mill ago.

You're going off assumption of the press. They may want no addons and 50mil in cash delivered in a brown paper bag to a bloke in a Mac in lime street.

We have new players that have only just arrived and the whole team needs time to bed in . some fans need to get there head out the clouds and get back down to earth and give the team time or you will just put unwanted pressure on the players and make things worse. think we all need to calm down a bit.

While agreeing, it was pretty dour. Said all along when he was at Utd, That Rooney is a number 10 or slightly deeper so he comes from behind the ball now. Mirallas put in a shift, I like the lad and Ramirez looked the part especially for only 5 or 6 mill. Klaasen was the stand out.

I loved it last night being back at the old lady. 2 months has felt like an eternity. We all know we are going to get better. Pretty sure most of us know how preseason works. So let's not get carried away with any of the performances so far good or bad.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2017 08:15:28
My view on the game was a pre season game with a lot of new players trying to bed in against a team that kept two banks of five back at all times more positives for me only thing I was worried about was Martina kept slowing the play down all the time we'll do them more next weekf.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - those moaning are the ones that want all these new faces coming in yet dont want to give them time to bed in bill, its a total rebuild and will take a good few games for the players to gel so patience guys ..

28 Jul 2017 08:28:52
Ed some people just love to cry and yap it was our first game it wasn't the best but it most certainly wasn't the worst a goal up and clean sheet that'll do for me mate.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i said a while back bill that it wont be easy so many new players and very little time to shape them into a team, our start to the season is very difficult so supporters need to get in the real world mate and realize that we wont be winning every game, support the team and the plan and just be realistic is all i ask for..

28 Jul 2017 07:15:46
Come on lads, we're still in pre-season and a lot of negativity already. I agree it wasn't a great performance and difficult to watch at times, but we were playing against a brick wall. They will have to come out at their place and we'll have more space. My only worry was the pace of that back 4.I thought Keane had a good game, but he needs someone with a bit of pace alongside him. Williams looked very rusty and I'd be very disappointed being Holgate or Kenny not starting because I think they're both better than Martina. Rooney had zero service, but he looked like he was trying too hard. emotional occasion for him? Davies should've been on half time for me and thankfully Sandro was a breath of fresh air. I think we need another CB and a target man striker for the season. Early days yet. COYB.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - good summary that deano mate..

28 Jul 2017 07:51:22
The voice of reason Deano. Good post mate. One thing I have learned over the years is never predict a season too early, and it doesn't get any earlier than this. Whilst it was a competitive match we are in a pre season fitness state, so a little patience is needed.

It needs to be faster and naturally there needs to be some more understanding amongst the new signings. This will come. Chin up lads. We won and kept a clean sheet at home. If we score away from home the tie will effectively be over.

COYB.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Jul 2017 08:33:18
Totally agree boys, I think many thought it would be a stroll when you know these teams come to stifle and frustrate, getting numbers behind the ball, niggly fouls etc etc.
certainly bright points were Gueye looked right on his game from the start, I thought Baines had a good game and Sandro livened it up up front.
I think it highlights our need for another striker, giroud would have been able to hold the ball up and challenge their CB. Agree with comments about Williams he looked off the pace, and we need another winger with a bit of pace and an ability to take defenders on.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - these games are not as easy as some seem to think wakka, no other team won by more than 1 goal which shows how difficult these sort of games can be, lets just get behind the team and manager and do what supporters should do which is support, there are no easy games in football these days mate..

Cmon wirralblueboy lad calm yaself it wasnt that bad, i think u habe set your sights a bit high for this early in the season. Keane a yard dog hahaha he looked class i thought, sandro looks some player and tbe rest wer just a bit slow, martina isn't great but he gets the ball in the box a lot more often than baines and let's be honest he is what he is isn't he a back up squad player everyone expected us to steam roll them but evertone expected brann to beat them, they where a horrible to warch defensive team who where up for it and in our faces every second of that game. I expect us to do that away when they have to attack, and just my opinion of Calvert Lewin the kid is a striker getting asked to be a winger, it doeant work he needs a go up top for me c what he can do he never been a winger never will be but he's a good player.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

28 Jul 2017 06:23:14
Well, if we are honest with ourselves we all must be extremely disappointed with that performance, we can make excuses for this or that or the other but we were playing at home against a team on paper we should of beaten convincingly, with exception of Gueye and Keane the rest struggled to make any impact and off the pace. Our full backs didn't help very negative and lacking penetration, if we don't improve a lot and field the same team next week then we will get beat, sorry to be so negative.

I thought Martina played well. He was getting up there crossing the ball. There were a few mishaps. But didn't the whole team have a few.
I enjoyed the game tonight. Our defence is going to be solid once they gel and get full match fitness.

I thought we looked quick compared to previous season's getting up the pitch. At one stage when everyone was just shooting at goal regardless, we looked desperate for a goal but I'm putting that down to pressure.
Sandro I can easily see is going to play a major part this season with Rooney playing off him. The game just changed instantly for the better.
I think the players need to get a few more 90 minutes behind them and find their own personal game. Then the team needs to gel.

Overall I was pleased with what I saw tonight. Totally going in the right direction.

Not going to do ratings but just some thoughts on the players today:

Stekelenburg- suprised he got the nod but played well when he had anything to do.

Martina- looked lively but for me is definitely not the answer. Still stand by what I said before the game that Kenny should play.

Keane- Good game tonight, very promising and showed some class.

Williams- Out of shape and out of sorts. I feel like we need a new CB.

Baines- Man of the match. Played well throughout the game.

Schneiderlin- Did his job.

Gana- Played well, looked good going forward also.

Klaassen- I really rate him and he showed touches of class, and was very hardworking tonight, a bit of a headless chicken for me despite the plaudits from others.

Calvert-Lewin- I still don't see what all the fuss is about him. Didn't see much from him tonight.

Rooney- Worked hard, like Klaassen he showed touches of class but didn't have much end product.

Mirallas- I thought he looked dangerous but again no end product. Corners as bad as Barkley's.

Davies- Should have started, looked far livelier than others despite a few poor touches in his brief stint.

Sandro- His touch is unreal, and he looked great tonight. I hope he can do this against better opposition over 90 mins.

Lookman- Decent cameo.

Feel free to disagree with me, I'm just saying what I saw from my seat in the Lower Gwladys. I haven't seen any TV footage or replays.

I would have preferred to win by a bigger margin but the Slovakians set up to stifle us and we played like it was a preseason friendly. I'm not too worried but we need to improve with only 2 weeks until the first match of the season.

It would be interesting to know if you watched it on TV or actually went to Goodison.
