. well, with Mourinhio on the brink of being sacked I wonder what young Stonsey makes of it all. after all, it was Jose he supposedly wanted to play for and under. I hope he realizes he had a lucky escape from the abyss!

Roberto Martinez has said Tim Howard will return to the starting line up against Sunderland saying 'there is no doubt'. What a joke, what a disgrace that is, not even allowing Joel to enjoy his moment. Tim Howard must have be giving Martinez unlimited calls with Obama or something. If I was Joel I would seek a move as soon as possible, young lad with potential who has proven AGAIN that he is superior to Tim Howard in every aspect of Goalkeeping and Football and STILL isn't even considered to be picked. Ah well, looks like more points to be dropped due to Goalkeeping errors until 2018.

I couldn't agree more Swanny. unfortunately these Spanish gaffers are very arrogant, up their own arse and set in their own ways. ask Liverpool fans - Benitez was the same. how Howard gets back in is beyond me too - he no longer possesses the ability to perform at the required level n the premier league. Dracula for me is now our no.1!

Spot on mate. Joel was brilliant tonight, everything Howard hasn't been this last year. Stand out moments for me was his unbelievable save in the 91st minute from the point blank Grabban header. Howard would have star jumped that one for sure. but no keeper had a right to save that.

Then in the 92nd minute they had a free kick, nerves where wrecked at this stage and Joel comes and claims no problem, dominates his area and then smashes an 80 yard kick to Lukaku who very almost got a shot off after beating the keeper to it.

Saved the penalty in the shootout of course but I was most impressed with the previously mentioned.

Howard has been a great servant to Everton and he has done a lot for us on and off the pitch. Our profile is significantly bigger in the USA now and that has been lucrative and will continue to be so for us. However I do think Joel now deserves a chance especially on form. I'm not surprised Howard will play against Sunderland but its so poor from Martinez to not even pretend to consider Joel, he must feel so under appreciated. i'm sure once he has a look on his twitter he'll realise the fans are behind him.

joel should get chance till jan and if he ain't good enough then we need buy number 1 and get rid of howard.

{Ed025's Note - maybe in an ideal world bretto...but you do know this is everton were talking about right?.. :)

Ano stuck with howard for aleast enough 3 years.

Used to enjoy coming on this site and sharing a bit of banter, but now it's mostly full of unrealistic whingers who only seem to post when we lose or play bad, then strangely disappear after a victory or run of decent results. Sad!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - a lot of it is born out of frustration aflm, we have a very good team here with a lot of promising youngsters on the fringe, expectation is high and like 99% of all supporters they can be very fickle, the moaning does get on my tits at times as well mate but we cant stop people having their say..

27 Oct 2015 23:43:02
I won't sit on the fence as I think we as fans deserve better! Poor starting lineups poor first half displays poor tactics, although we are ok in the league and scraped our way through the cup we can do better and to say we moan! I have supported EFC for over 30 yrs and I think it's you Sir that needs to stop moaning and let's start winning some trophies. COYB.

Opinions are fine Ed but most fans only seem to have one when we lose. Last year, for example, we beat Wolfsburg 4-1 in Europe and I came on here expecting to share in the euphoria of an great result. Yet there were about 5 posts, if the result had been the other way around there would have been closer to 50 all screaming blue murder, insulting everyone in the team, the manager, the board, Bill etc.

Fickle doesn't come close enough!

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed025's Note - thats the modern day "supporter" im afraid aflm, its not just everton though, all clubs have a similar element mate..

27 Oct 2015 23:15:24
Robles has earned his chance, if he is not given it, Martinez will lose all credibility with the rest of the players. Put simply, he has always said that selection is based on merit, Tim, is bang out of form, Robles has just had a blinder, the desision should be a no brainer.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - shudda wudda cudda JCW...tim will be back in come sunday..mores the pity mate..

27 Oct 2015 22:40:16
Is anyone else getting the feeling that we have a really strong squad - probably the strongest and most talented squad we've had in a long long time. yet we are continually underperforming big time - where does the blame lie, with the players or at the gaffers door? and if the latter, what should be done?!?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - if it continues he should be out the door zacki, but lets not get carried away yet mate, all teams have lulls, and lets just hope the last 3 games is ours..

27 Oct 2015 22:39:24
I don't want to slate howard because he's been a great servant for the club and I don't want to get to carried away with Joel but if he doesn't start at the weekend after tonight's performance then I'm sorry but Roberto will have bottled it.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - dont put money on it liam..

27 Oct 2015 22:37:40
Well we are through, Joel was incredible, though Dracula will still start against Sunderland. Mori was great too, Norwich much better team. Play like that against City or someone like that in the next round and it will be a one sided pounding with them swinging the hammer.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - you never know swan..maybe our names on it mate.. :)

27 Oct 2015 23:07:29
If RM drops Joel after his performance tonight and brings back Howard after his recent (actually far longer than "recent") performances, then I'm sure I won't be the only supporter whose fragile tolerance of RM will be further (perhaps fatally) eroded.
Another concern is the fitness (stamina) of our players. Why did some of them (most of them? ) look absolutely knackered compared to the Norwich City players? Both sets of players had to handle 120 minutes, but ours just seem - even allowing for lack of recent first-team action for several of those selected tonight - to be lacking the basic physical fitness to cope. Am I being too harsh?
On the other hand, kudos to our players who took the penalty kicks - absolutely no sign of any of them "bottling it".
Final thought: we can't keep going behind in these cup-ties and hope to drag ourselves back into games, ride our luck (big time! ), and scrape through by the skin of our teeth - sooner (rather than later) we'll come a cropper and our hopes for a trophy will be dashed for ye another season.
Bloody hell! Imagine how I'd be feeling if we'd lost tonight ;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i fully expect tim to return on sunday sid, now i know its not right but bobby has a hardcore who get picked however bad they are playing..

27 Oct 2015 23:14:49
Not long in from work Swan so didn't see the game. So Joel had a good one then? Let's hope it continues, coupled with the manager showing us he can make the difficult, and correct, decisions. If Joel saves us money in the transfer market then I'll be the first to take my hat off to him, fingers crossed that he proves me, and the other doubters, wrong.
Where we that bad in the first half? as trying to keep up with the scores and read on ssn website that they were booed off the pitch.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Oct 2015 23:30:28
They were booed off the pitch mate, we were poor. Joel was exceptional, did everything a Goalkeeper should, came out for corners, didn't dive an hour early. Pulled off 2 amazing saves to deny Hoolahan and Ofoe (may of been Mulumbo I'm not sure) . Hos distribution was top draw, caught the ball and sent the ball all the way to the penalty area in 3 seconds flat. Howard would no doubt have waited to roll it out to a defender. Crowd was pretty poor to say the least.

Cheers mate for the info. Take it he impressed you then! Think RM has already come out and said he will restore TH to the team at the weekend. Bit naughty after the way he has performed recently and then Joel playing well. RM has got no bottle.

That was one of the worst crowds I've seen at Goodison. For most of the game it was like a morgue, but the boo boys were out in force. It seems when Barkley isn't playing Lukaku is the worst, until Barkley comes on and then they hate him more! To be fair, although not his finest game, I thought Lukaku put a shift in, and did okay considering the scraps he was being fed by the rest of the team.

I agree with Sid above about the fitness, Osman was huffing and puffing after about 5 mins (although he did have a few good spells throughout the game) , Geri looked tired after about 15 mins! The passing was particularly sloppy throughout the match. Browning and Kone were the worst offenders in my opinion. I think there were a few positives. Joel had a good game, Oviedo looked lively, Mori okay again, and I fancy us to beat anyone on pens, I mean practically the whole team could have taken them.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Oct 2015 23:41:05
Ed025: re RM's preference for Howard (and, apparently, his other "favourites"), it's RM's loyalty (misguided in my humble opinion) to players who are clearly out of form or have gone "over he hill" that is his fatal flaw as a manager/coach.
RM has appeared to be adapting his tactics this season (at last! ) and his player recruitment has been pretty good on the whole and his man-management doesn't appear to cause massive problems - the players do show commitment by and large and team spirit. That's all to the good. However, all successful managers are ruthless in their team selections and their dropping (and shipping out) of players that are no longer delivering on the field. It's brilliant that we've kept our better players (and put them on extended contracts) and that we've brought good youngsters through our academy and we've made some good incoming transfers, BUT he must be ruthless going forward. He can still be a decent and honest and fair-minded human being even if it means he isn't a nce guy in some people's eyes.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i agree sid, this could eventually cost him his job though mate, i dont know what more joel can do to force his way in, if i was him i would feel very let down and wonder if my future lay elsewhere..

27 Oct 2015 21:37:19
Glad Robles is having a blinder bit of food for thought for RM in fact it's a no brainer.

well done boys embarrassing show again, every single carling cup game we seem to think all we have to do is turn up, I am sick to death of watching this s'*T, pathetic performance my local pub side would give norwich a better game. I won't be paying to watch this cr@p again.

So Roberto is taking the league cup seriously playing a Norwich side getting stuffed lately, 8 changes! WTF that is taking the piss! Get some of the first eleven players getting confidence building game time, not trying players out of cond it ion and form!

I wonder who will be the better signing mori or van duke (southampton) ? Both have done well so far. Interestingly when you look at Mori on you tube you could easily think that he is a striker. Big shoes to fill now though.

So Valdes wants to stay in the premier league. If available in January would anyone want him on a free? Is his personality that bad that he would cause issues? Also at 33 is it too short term a solution or do people just not rate him at all?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Oct 2015 12:38:08
How could you not rate him. Look at all he won. Broke all kinds of records with Barcelona. I'd rather have him at the club that's for sure. Any chance Utd would do a swap?

Not making little of Howard. Good keeper who done well at Everton. Time to move on. Even before Sat game there was some of us saying to give Joel a chance. Its not like it all went bad for Howard over night.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Oct 2015 14:48:23
Not his biggest fan, when you played in the Barcelona teams he did anyone could be in goal and win all he did. Utd fans don't seem to rate him, the times I saw him for Barcelona he looked beyond dodgy. Last thing we need is anothwr Goalkeeper who can't catch lile Valdez can't. Suppose he would be worth it despite his massive wages seeing how he just can't be any worse than Howard. Which can be said about near enough every Goalkeeper in the Premier League.

Anyone else feel a little disappointed for Luke Garbutt? Goes on loan to Fulham and Baines gets injured long term, then he gets injured, in the mean time Galloway steps in and puts in some decent performances, Garbutt recovers and is still at Fulham, what compounds his luck is with Baines out Shaw gets injured so there would have been an opportunity if he had played well for an England call up. I like Garbutt he is more composed than Galloway and delivers good quality crosses into the box for the strikers!

Garbutt is ok going forward but is a woeful defender, never makes a tackle . Galloway is a much better prospect.
