McAleny came back for the U-21 match (against Celtic) earlier this week having apparently suffered a collarbone injury in pre-season. That's the first I've heard about that injury and explains why he hasn't been playing. It doesn't explain why there was nothing on the club website about his situation. Usually the club is very good about communicating information about our players, but occasionally they just leave us all completely and unforgivably in the dark.
Perhaps now they'll explain what's happened with Junior.
Kone also played in the U-21 match - and was an unused substitute at Wolfsburg - so there's every chance he might actually play for us soon. Who'd have thought that?

Hey great win tonight!! Just a point about villain of the year 'McGeady'. all this nonsense about him being the worst player ever to wear an Everton shirt is embarrassing! Why do people always have to hate somebody? A cpl of yrs ago when Naismith joined lots of people on here where saying the exact same thing about him, likewise when Coleman moved to right back, now everyone is lining up to praise them. Give McGeady a chance ffs. I missed the 2nd half because of work, but I thought McGeady played well first half and seems to suit European football more than the Prem.

Anyway it is a long season and we will need every player we've got esp with all these injuries. So c'mon get off his back!! I guarantee he will prove his worth before the end of the season. COYB!!

Rant over!! P.S got to agree with Degsy. Ossie has been great lately and should not get such stick. A true Evertonian like him should never get such stick!!

Rant officially over!! :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - its all about opinions aflm, if we praised everyone all the time it would be very boring mate, i say it like i play it my old mucker, if i think a player played well then i will praise them, likewise if they are crap i will express that as well, its just my honest take on things, thats what banter is all about.

28 Nov 2014 01:18:22
Although I see mcgeedy in the same vain as osman, besic, atsu and etoo this season as being squad players to fill in when injuries, suspension or match fatigue kick in to our 1st team, I feel they put in a good shift tonight against good competition. I would also hope martinez uses the competition to look at players who could join us in the summer as some of our squad ages to the point of retirement or even looking at players to strengthen the 1st team. Wolfsburg would be the 1st team I would hope he looks at, in particular kevin de bruyne is a classy player who I would love to see wearing the blue shirt of everton in the future, even if he does look like henchoz after 5 minutes of running. The only stumbling block in this could be the fee Wolfsburg would want for him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry but McGeady was terrible last night - everything he touched went wrong - I don't like criticising players too much but it was a standout poor performance and I actually usually like the guy - he missed an absolute sitter at one point, and lost the ball about 10 times through bad passes or just getting it robbed of him - he had a disaster game

Good performance by the team, though they had plenty of chances to be fair - they could easily beat us on another day and 6-1 over the two legs was v flattering - still great win though :)
We are still a bit selfish up front for me when someone does not pass to someone else in a better position

Garbut was fantastic though - was really impressed by him

Agree0 Disagree0

If you look at some of the mistakes McGeady makes

It just beggars belief how a PL player let alone International could be so downright clumsy? and I'm talking 'serial ' here not one offs

He would look seriously poor at ANY level of this game that's not ott imo!

Who would have hoped he was the guy presented with that sitter? come on be honest. any one but him :(

Then here endeth todays sermon my brethren

Just as a footnote Ed (I think it was Sid )

Mentioned Bernie Wright as a comparison a few weeks ago I didn't reply to that post I know what Sid was saying though. however I recall standing in the Street end at a night match in the 70's and we nearly wet ourselves at his antics . crazy times or what?
Last night I was downright fuming .

According to these player stats McGeady's pass % last night was 95% check it out for yourself. How then could he have given the ball away so much? I assume these stats must be a load of rubbish then!!

I do wonder, if barkley, mirallas or naismith had missed the sitter would they be getting pelters? No, they would just of been 'unlucky'. Mirallas lost it many times when he had it but he was flawless of course

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - simple...none of them would have missed..

27 Nov 2014 21:12:21
Great result and great support. That sees us seeded with the best Champions League drop outs. Next round not until Feb next year. Let's hope for a good draw. If it's Northern Europe again God knows how many will travel.

{Ed025's Note - there has,nt been that big an invasion in germany since 1945 ted, they really done us proud mate..

Knowing our luck we'll get the red side, but do you know what, I think we'd smash them all over the park the way we're playing at the moment.

Don't think you can play a team from your Europa League group or same association in next round

That was a tremendous performance tonight from the lads. I thought beforehand that a draw might have been the best we could have achieved, with the likes of Baines, Coleman, Barry, Naismith and Piennar all out. But two fantastic goals from Rom and Super Kev took us through as Champions of the group. Special praise for Mo Besic (who I thought ran the midfield), Samuel Eto'o and young Luke Garbett who never put a foot wrong. However, McGeady was woeful and missed an absolute sitter which should have killed the game earlier.
This was always going to be the hardest of the group games and yet we've been unbeaten throughout in what was always going to be a difficult group. "Allez, allez oh" could be heard throughout the game and I simply hope that the thousands of loyal Blues who travelled have come back unscathed and safe after the problems some suffered in France in the last round.
I also hope Jimmy Mac's injury is not too serious in what was the only disappointment in an amazing night in Europe.
Onwards and upwards. In Roberto we trust!

27 Nov 2014 22:41:26
As in a few games this season, I thought that we were lucky to keep a clean sheet, but we did and our counter-attacking pace and good finishing (McGeady excepted!) and hard work and good organisation and solid individual performances ensured our victory.
Last season, I wasn't convinced by Mirallas, but he's now vital imho to the way we play. Add in Lukaku - when he's 'at it' - and the class of Eto'o and the other quality players we've got in our squad and it's all looking very promising. Here's hoping for no European hangover in Sunday's match :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - lets hope spurs have one sid.. :)

27 Nov 2014 20:48:04
ED025 to say McGeady is the worse player ever to wear our shirt is a bit OTT. We have had some bad ones. However, considering his main role is to create and score goals, I believe it is about time he became our 14th or 15th man rather than a regular starter. I know he scored 1 this season. Has he had more than 1 assist? I would love to know where we can look up those sort of stats.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Nov 2014 21:19:51
Svenny got the stats for you which shows him having more assists than osman, pienaar and barkley but you have clearly ignored them, I do agree saying he's the worst ever is ott thougj

Agree0 Disagree0

I never saw them Swan. Would like to see them again now after Ossie's brilliant recent performances and well McGeady's clinical finishing. Only joking mate. Remember we are all Blues. X

I just want to say something that seems to rattle everyone, but as the season progresses seems to be absolutely right. People were knocking Leon Osman saying he was too old etc. Today he came on and played in the holding position replacing McCarthy. This is not his strongest position but he put in yet another decent performance. The one he set up for McGeady was brilliant. McGeady is obviously low in confidence and I don't want to knock it further in case he looks at this web site. He just needs something to go for him and I am sure he will turn things round. Back to the Osman debate, about 6 games back I was having disputes with people saying that he still had a part to play in our team. In my opinion, he has been our most consistent player in our last 6 or 7 games and if you look at our results when he has played, we have done better than when he has not played. I know he is sometimes easily knocked off the ball, but that's what happens to 5ft 5inch players sometimes. Overall his contribution has been immense. Looks like we are going to need him more than ever now with all the injuries and I hope our loyal supporters will allow him a bad game when it comes along. Certainly other players seem to get that luxury.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - he done well degsy..but you do seem to defend him a hell of a lot mate...on mcgeady, i hope he reads these pages...sign for hartlepool please..

Yes I do defend him a lot because I don't think he is past it yet. Like I say, we had a terrible start to the season, he came into the team after about 7 games and we have not looked back since. He has plenty of assists and has scored a couple. Today he played the holding midfield position against a team 2nd in the German League who have won 8 of their last 9 games. I think he deserves more than the 0.5 less than Swan gave McGeady! Surely he was better than that!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - he was, we all have our favourites though mate, and theres nothing wrong with that degs..

And by the way Ed025, I am 5ft 5inch too.hence sticking up for Ossie!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - good reason degs..good things come in small packages mate..

27 Nov 2014 21:25:23
Oh that explains it! Right, ah okay, coleman coming back into the team? No no no no, sell him, mirallas, lukaku hell sell everyone, call ourselves osmanfc because we are a one man team, he can take on the whole world! We are just a one man team, osman is world class the rest are rubbish, messi? Ronaldo? Ha! Leon osman is better than them combined

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - bit over the top there swan, he was just sticking up for the guy after the stick he has endured on here, and theres nothing wrong with that mate..

27 Nov 2014 21:49:12
He sticks up for him every game, yet I mention mcgeady put a shift in and mcgeady is my love child but he sticks up for osman every game and its 'fair enough' osman can do no wrong, yenno if osman scored 3 own goals, did 3 backpasses that lead to goals and missed 3 penalties in the europa league final against liverpool degsy would still defend him. 'but he did a quick frerkick that lead to a shot so he was man of the match easily, he's been here for a few years so he's the best player in the squad now leave him alone!!'. To not risk causing anything i'm not mentioning mcgeady, tell you what, if he has a bad game next game I will come on here and agree that he's worse than koldrup, angel and straquerlersi, that's when I judge him. To suggest osman is the only reason we are not doing as badly is, well, come on. I honestly don't know why i'm annoyed, I've just watched us win the europa league group of death.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - we all have our love children in the side swan, mine would be eto,o and naisy, everyone loves an underdog mate so sometimes the not so high profile names get the vote, its all subjective and good that we dont all have the same views, otherwise the banter would be very boring fella..

Change the record degsy no onones saying he's past it because he's never had it to lose

Agree0 Disagree0

Anyone want to help me set up a Leon Osman fan club? Was thinking about getting some posters made or even little statues of him. In reality it irks me that people keep knocking him when I actually think he is one of our more consistent players at present. If it wasn't for the fact that people kept on rubbishing him, you probably would not see a single comment about him from me.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i doubt that degsy..

27 Nov 2014 20:25:32
Ratings: howard-7-did his job, hibbert-7-same as howard, jagielka-7-solid bar one silly mistake, distin-8-really really impressive tonight, garbutt-7-didnt get forward that often but defended well and put in 2 good corners. Mccarthy-6-really hope his injury isn't serious, besic-8.5-incredible, tackling, passing and carrying the ball, brilliant, mcgeady-6.5-7-its difficult, he should of scored, no doubt BUT he did work his socks off, defended very well and IMO had his best game in terms of working for the team, but he should of scored. Eto'o-7-early on lost it a bit but showed his class with a backheel and workrate, mirallas-6.5-took his goal well and worked hard but didn't get involved until late on, lukaku-8-a goal and an assist, worked hard, bullied people and his overall game was marvellous. Osman-6.5-worked hard, barkley-6-again, had 2 chances to play mcgeady and lukaku one on one but decided not to, atsu-6-Should of won by more but meh, everyone worked their backsides off, made up we won the group, great night

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i think howard did more than his job swan..as did all the back 4, and how you can give mcgeady the same sort of score is beyond me..i thought he was roberto,s love child..not yours..

And I can't believe you gave Osman the same as McGeady. Osman was superb in a position that is not his. He must have won the ball as many times as Besic and when he had the odd run like where he set up McGeady via Lukaku (I think) McGeady should be embarrassed to show his face. Ok McGeady did play a defensive game, but his role was to create things too and he did nowt. Enough waffle. I guess it is all about opinions.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - it is degsy..

Crazy game great to watch and on another day they win 6 nil but threw with a game to spare can't ask for much more considering the group

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Nov 2014 21:15:23
Ive just watched his sitter about 20 times and yeah, it really has changed my mind, he's not my love child I just thought he worked hard and defended well. Going forward he.offered nothing but again if he's criticised for just working hard then that's it. I agree he shouldn't be a starter, degsy he was evidentally told to track perisic on the wing, which he did, you cannot possibly start saying we only won the game because osman came on, please don't start with things like that, hopefully mcgeady won't play as often with kev back. Howard saved a 90 yard shot but about 3 times in the first half they hit it across the 6 yard box and he stayed still, if someone was at the back post its a goal

Agree0 Disagree0

No Swan I am not saying the only reason we are winning is because Ossie played.what I am saying is that Ossie had a couple of bad games earlier in the season and people were slagging him off and saying he was past it. Then he has come back into the team at a time when we were struggling and conceding goals. Of course I realise he is not the greatest player. But I do think he is one of these players who goes unnoticed and nits a team together. Besic was doing that too all evening. Nothing spectacular but necessary within a winning team. Some of my posts have been a bit tongue in cheek tonight mate. I hope you realise this. All the best mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Nov 2014 20:18:15
They were awful in front of goal, which is just as well but we had some good performances there in Hibbo, he did everything right and dealt with all that he needed to. Kev getting up to speed. going to be a price to pay though but that's what this comp does to you. We'll miss Macca big time especially with Barry still out. mcgeady was atrocious, I've been hoping just for a competent display from him but he didn't provide us with one tonight.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i keep saying it...worst player to ever don the shirt lant, but anyway a great performance by the lads, and although he can be a bit rash at times besic gives 100% every time, also a big well done to sam eto,o, worked his socks off and for a guy of 65 never stops closing down, respect.. :)

27 Nov 2014 20:33:58
We won but I'm still really frustrated with our performance. Our ball retention, particularly in the first half was really poor. Our defending, at times, was desperate - we just panic and hack the ball anywhere. We should be better than that.

On the plus side, I thought Garbutt did well and showed that he is the natural deputy for Baines - not Hibbert!

So, happy with the win JT we can do better. Oh, and anoth hamstring injury? Very Everton!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - not much to moan about tonight pips...but damn good try mate..

28 Nov 2014 01:44:53
Wolfsburg did their homework and closed us down high up the pitch, that's why we couldn't settle on the ball and play our game resulting in some hacking out of defense. I like hibbert as well, but although he played ok, there were times tonight he was caught miles out of position and if they had more players willing to get on the end of good crosses across our box the game could have been much more difficult. Jags and distan along with besic, mirallas and lukaku stood out for me tonight and in ratings terms would get 8/10's and any of those 5 could have won my motm.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Nov 2014 19:58:36
superb, won group with game to spare

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not the best performance but a win is a win. I like the look of perisic, I think we are interested in him and the thought of him and super kev on the wings is a mouth watering prospect, if we could sign him.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - he looks good dentie..he could replace mcgeady..

Ed025 . I've got two dodgey knees, a cockys hut, frost on the roof and smoke like an Arbroath smokey smoke house, even I could replace Mcgeady.

27 Nov 2014 21:37:01
Really? All I saw was him hitting it into the stands from 30 yards every 5 minutes but hey barkley does it all the time and is the best thing since leom osman, hey? Soldado has missed every shot he's had so far, cheeky 20m bid in january? Go on bobby son

Swan, why are you so down on Ross? The lad is going to be a player of immense quality by the time he fulfils his potential. Yes he has some rough edges but he is not the finished article yet, the lad's 21 ffs! He will drift in and out of games without a doubt, but he will also win us points on his day.

28 Nov 2014 14:24:52
Im not 'down on him', most evertonians would love to go 'down on him'. He appears no different to last year, runs, loses it, mccarthy wins it back, gives him it on the halfway line, he keeps it for 10 minutes then shoots out for a goal kick. let's go degsy on him, he doesn't score goals, doesn't assist goals so what is he doing, number 10 but tim howard had more assists than him last year. The way martinez said he will be englands greatest ever player was hilarious, he won't even be englands best number 10 from liverpool who played for everton.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Nov 2014 17:00:31
It's not just Martinez that rates him so highly though is it? A lot of highly respected people within the game (who don't have such biased views as yourself) think the same. So far this season, he hasn't hit any sort of heights but the lad has missed most of the season and will take time to get his match fitness up to required standards. Even at half fitness the lad is miles better than McGeady :)

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Nov 2014 19:36:48
Last post, regardless of the result, the critiscm Tim Howard gets from some of you is a joke! The guy is easy top 10 goalkeepers worldwide.
I'm going to keep typing because every time I do we score. Well done Kev (he is our best player by a mile in terms of ability) and well done Tim for making some big stops which created that Kev goal.

Bring on anyone in this comp. jeeez I think and have thought before a ball was kicked ( see my posts from months ago) that this was our route to glory and CL and I'm so pleased Roberto is taking it as the number 1 priority

I also want to add that based on the fact that he is young, new to the team and learning, Besic I believe could be a truly incredible signing at that price. Wonderful little player. So much technique and ability for a defensive ball winning midfielder

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - yeah svenny...bring him in instead of mcgeady..

27 Nov 2014 18:48:15
Firstly I have seen Garbutt put in 2 corners that have been more dangerous than anything I have seen an everton player do since Hinchcliff.
Secondly (we just scored as I was typing this but I will stay true to my opinion) if we get a draw tonight I will be amazed. They simply look more intense than us and more up for it. Ability wise very equal teams we wonderfully seem to have more self belief though. We won't have many harder games on our way to winning the trophy.
Thirdly, if Atsu does not get significant minutes tonight then I hope we terminate his loan in January and free up wages plus another loan option as Martinez on seeing him at close quarters clearly does not rate or trust him

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - garbutt is doing very well svenny, but we seem to be very laboured in getting the ball out, buy maybe thats the midfield not moving enough..

27 Nov 2014 15:13:16
Just read Spurs managers comments can't spell his name, but he suggests teams playing in the Europa league should play there next league game on a Monday night instead of Sunday, as other football associations help there teams as much as possible the extra day rest would help teams a lot more than playing on Sunday's I think it would be better aswell but don't think the premier league would entertain it.

Have you all looked at "The peoples Footballer-Naismith" on the BBC's football pages? Well worth a look regarding the amount of charity work he does. and how modest he is.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That's because he appreciates that he is a well paid football player he counts him self lucky and does not forget where he came from he has a good heart. He is a special kind of professional footballer that keeps his feet on the ground decent bloke he is.

Can I ask a serious question without getting slated (too much). What does Ross Barkley actually do? I mean I get he's a young confident CAM, which fair play is a rare trait. And I suppose he is technically gifted to some extent. But if we had another player in that position, would we be in a lower spot in the league? I doubt it tbh. So what do we gain from his input?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Nov 2014 12:53:45
He runs forward, gets tackled, doesn't trackback, someone gives him the ball at the corner flag and he shoots out for a throw in, he doesn't score, he doesn't assist, constantly loses it and dives, he's too confident and probably won't ever improve, i'd rather naismith or eto'o were infront of him

Agree0 Disagree0

I know what you mean QB, but it all revolves around the lack of English or British talent coming through the last 15 years or so. If you look at the England team, there were no replacements coming through as the old guard of Gerrard, Lampard, Terry, Cole etc started to age. All these players stayed in the England team for far too long because there was a lack of talent coming through. I am glad to say that suddenly things are looking a little better and with Barkley, Sterling, Berahino, Clyne etc things are looking better. As for Barkley, remember the goals he scored last season? As a kid coming in, they were fantastic. Yes his injury has delayed him getting match fit, but I expect him to rediscover his form soon. RM says he has the potential to be the best ever English player, so he must have something?

Agree0 Disagree0

QB
i ask myself this all the time, yes he had a great game on his return, but I often think he lacks concetration, falling over the ball, miskicks, diving we can't condone or deny, at 20 or 21 I want to see him dragging the team on, we need to see him have a good run of form and games and goals for me. all that said I still would not sell him untill he outgrows everton or his ego

Agree0 Disagree0

He presence scares people he is strong fast can make a pass , he can link up play makes tackles holds the ball up, oh and can also hit a decent free kick not bad for a young lad that has had his fair amount of injuries ey, Barkley in another two years is going to be the best midfielder in the prem.

Agree0 Disagree0

Swan he drives the team forward and creates space for others

Agree0 Disagree0

What does he do, I see the guys been back 4 games and you question his ability maybe if it weren't the fact that him and Coleman are only two players that actually try to beat a man then he's going to lose it more, we do this slow slow build up let's not get on the back of 50% of our creative play, seriously makes you wonder sometimes

Agree0 Disagree0

As Roberto says "let him play football and make mistakes",it's all part of learning. No one is perfect

Some people on here really need to give their massive heads a wobble! Do you just post comments/replies so you can get some kind of self importance from seeing your name on the page? Yes this game is about opinions, no doubting that, but come on people! Some of the crap that gets spouted on here is astonishing. We have a genuine talent on our books, homegrown to boot, yet some still want to shoot him down. In the opinion of experts, this lad is going to be one of the best English players to grace the game. Yet you want to slag him off time after time. He's been out most of the season and is just coming back so is bound to be a bit rusty. He needs time. Agree with Mike totally, at least he is not scared to try beating a man. His concentration will improve with age, that is standard in pro football, and his decisions will improve the more experience he gets.

Agree0 Disagree0

Spud, when the chips are down don't slag us off for opinions that's what we go the match for, yes he is young yes he will make mistakes the OP asked what we think and that is what we think, yes we bounced out of our chairs when he scored against city, and last night albeit offside.
