The comments saying that Brands and Silva have realised that this is a bigger job than they thought are a bit of the mark . I think that Brands and Silva had been sounded out regarding their positions way before being offered their prospective jobs and therefore already knew what was in store regarding how the who squad was in need of a re build .

Well they are the experts and I guess that until you open the bonnet, you don't know what the engine is like? Size, condition and parts needed? You may have had an idea but still be surprised at what you find?

Agree0 Disagree2

28 Jul 2018 08:57:05
Staying on that analogy. If you’re an experienced mechanic then you pretty much know of any serious problems just by giving it a quick drive. I’d imagine that any serious issues with the playing staff would have been manifest before they came in.

Give it time to let the new way of playing to knit. Pep looked like a disaster in his first season losing 4-0 to us, and that took a season to fix. Our situation will take time too.

28 Jul 2018 09:54:23
Agree Ace, we’re not going to be world beaters overnight. Will take at least this and the next 2 windows before we can judge Silva/ Brands fairly. We need to get behind them fully and allow some space for mistakes whilst the squad get to grips with the new formation and style of play.

This Everton job is far to big for Silva and Brandts could be way out f his depth this is not Holland.
I feel sorry for all the true blue fans who believe that silva is the right man.
I so hope to be wrong so if I am, sling your abuse at me guys and girls at the end of the season.

Agree0 Disagree2

28 Jul 2018 12:53:57
I haven't seen any everton team over the last few years try and play football in the style of Marco Silva, so he isn't going to know who can adjust or not to the style. He needs these preseason games to show him who can and who can't.
No point going out and blowing a load on a player who can't dislodge someone who is already here and surprised him by suiting his system.

I hope he is but in football if you don’t get results your gone project or no project.

Two centre backs is the ideal . one to replace Mori and the other to replace Williams who just ain't good enough unfortunately.

You can add Jags to that statement now JCL, don’t get me wrong he was top dollar in his day but for me that ship has sailed!

No way too slow he’s average at best.

Ur right blu, but I'd rather have jags on bench than Williams. top professional!

Agree2 Disagree0

27 Jul 2018 22:58:01
Jags last night literally slammed aside by a mediocre player. That in my opinion was unacceptable. We are really going in for a let's retain status in my opion. I hope desperately we are ok.

Agree1 Disagree1

28 Jul 2018 08:15:03
Yup, but I don't see us buying 3 centre backs.2 would be great but I'd still keep jags over Williams.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2018 08:45:10
Jones is a traditional old style stopper. More suited to a rugby ball than a football in my opinion. No way for me. The modern game needs footballing center halves.

{Ed025's Note - i agree degsy..

28 Jul 2018 10:26:16
Would rather have Tom Jones.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Jul 2018 19:19:31
To be perfectly honest I have watched all the pre-season games and Silva's attacking style. Last night against Blackburn I thought we were awful. Martinez liked to press high and neglected defence, final season finished 11th. Alardyce first of all defended and defied teams to break his team down and finished 8th. I agree these are just pre-season games, it would be interesting to see the thoughts of others that have also watched these games, but my analysis is that currently it is as if Martinez has returned.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

27 Jul 2018 21:51:36
Jags was slapped aside last night, never seen that happened before.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Jul 2018 21:51:40
I actually think he has looked at the defence. We are conceding from set pieces mainly but in general play we look okay.

He is trying to play with final marking but it's going to take time to get everyone up to speed and used to how he wants us to defend in each area of the pitch.

Martinez done nothing with the defence.

Look it's going to take time and a couple of weeks with half the first team squad isn't going to bring immediate success. Give this time.

To analyse Silva with just 1 new signing, no Walcott, Sig play 45 mins, no Pickford and Gana playing 45 mins plus him trying to get an idea of the other fringe players is utter madness.

When he has rid of the useless players, signed a couple of his own that fit his style of play, analyse it then. Not after 5 preseason games.

Agree5 Disagree0

28 Jul 2018 08:52:53
I just wonder how long we give him? I am not quite panicking yet, but I have watched this squad deteriorate through Martinez. Then watched Koeman do ok for a while and then that flipping awful transfer window where Lukaku buggered off and we signed about 5 number 10S. Our defence is aged and poor. There is no getting away from that. Our season starts in a couple of weeks and if we are to bring in a couple of new defenders, they usually take a while to settle in. Unfortunately, the Premier League is very unforgiving and does not allow for sentiment, good thoughts or slackness in any way. I am still fearful that we will be starting with an unbalanced side that is not used to training and playing together. But I am reassured by the eternal optimism of all the guys who keep reassuring me that it is ok and we are going places. 5 games in was my sort of reassessment time. But not preseason. Those games mean nothing.

Nice to see that klassen has hit the ground running at bremen.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Jul 2018 20:18:26
Yeah 1 game and 1 goal. Just hope we don't regret letting him go. Struggled in premier league for us but quality player. Maybe more suited to other leagues than ours.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Jul 2018 20:36:46
Think so just seems like soda law we couldn't get anything from him in the league I imagine he will go 9n and have a great carrear and then onyreku keeps scoring and we can't get a work permit so typical Everton lol and it seems to have been that way for ages when u look at mustafi and dier and numerous others.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Jul 2018 20:58:52
We purchased No 10's without thought about Team/ Squad integration. We then brought in Rooney, biggest mistake we made, the guy in his short time took over the Team. Didn't mean to but also dominated the dressing room and training sessions. Klaasen is a class act, Siggurdson is a class act, Rooney was a class act, we also had Barkley absolute class. For me up to now nothing has been learned. First signing a left/ right/ central forward player. What we need is a confident central pairing at Centre Back. At this moment in time I am looking forward to the new structural era, but by God so far it (on the field of play) looks all so familiar.

Agree2 Disagree0

27 Jul 2018 21:08:36
Agree with the above KTF, but one thing. Klassen imo was no ‘class act’. We bought him for 24mil, no one else was interested, RK had a look didn’t like what he saw and then dropped him, so did DU, SA and MS. If he was that good and ‘worshiped’ so much by Ajax they could have taken there prodigal son back for 12 mil yet decided to turn to Daly Blind instead! Horses for Courses’ and the Prem is not for him hence whilst he is now plying his trade at Weder Bremen. SPEAKS VOLUMES!

Agree2 Disagree0

27 Jul 2018 21:45:08
Rooney was still our best outfield player last season so what does that tell you about others.

27 Jul 2018 14:07:17
Hi all,
Watching the pre season games, the style of football is definitely changing, little concerned if Cenk is the striker we all crave.
Am I being to harsh, or do you think we need another option.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

27 Jul 2018 14:39:15
The Besiktas fans really rated him. They are following his progress and he has brought real interest in Everton within Turkey. Mind you, he had some good support behind him there!

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Jul 2018 16:37:38
I agree, We still haven't replaced Lukaku yet. Happy to give Tosun more time but I still don’t see him as our primary striker who will guarantee 20-25 goals per season.
Everyone keeps banging on about a left back, centre half and ball playing midfielder but what about a centre forward?

Agree1 Disagree1

27 Jul 2018 17:03:00
I think Cenk will do well but being rated in Turkey is not the premier league, we need another striker to push him.

Agree2 Disagree0

27 Jul 2018 17:51:10
I think we need to buy a quality 20 goal striker to make that next step.
Imagine Richalison, Walcott and vardy in that front 3.

27 Jul 2018 21:11:15
Vardy! Now your talking Smitt, get x2 years out of him whilst the revolution started to take place. Blistering counter attacking football. Would love it!

27 Jul 2018 21:46:27
If we provide the chances he will score lots I think he would thrive on decent crosses coming in.

So in todays market how much is Vardy worth.

27 Jul 2018 12:04:41
Good luck to Davy Klassen!

Never work for him at us for what ever reason, I think he may have been out of his depth in the premier league but I also think he has been treat pretty badly by Everton,

I remember a few years ago another lad who came from Ajax and in his first couple of year the media questioned if he was able to play in the PL due to been light weight etc

Christian Eriksson is now probably one of the first names on the team sheet at Spurs,

I hope he does well, mark my words 13mil is cheap and I can see him going to another club in a few years for 30 - 40 mil once he gets his mojo back an playing games!

On a side note Mr Silva / Brands our defence has been bloody terrible for 3 years especially CB and needs a total overhaul preferably before the start of the season!

Believable9 Unbelievable2

27 Jul 2018 10:29:33
Good luck Davy, a proper professional who we all wanted to succeed. A lot of blame for me falls to Koeman and Walsh but he just couldn't prove it at EPL level. Wish him all the best for the future.

, not been treated right by the club imo. Never head a complaint from him.

Went to the Blackburn game last night, I think we need a cm, I'd go all out for RLC.

I think some people are really expecting to much to soon the manager doesn't have a magic wond he's been here 5 minutes he needs to assess the players and see who he deems unfit for purpose he's really trying to sort out the mess of our last 2 managers it won't happen overnight it may take another 2 or 3 Windows be we all must be patient give it time lads.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - very much so billy..

27 Jul 2018 07:32:00
Ed025 we've been down so long the glass is always going to be half empty with some of our supporters but things surely must get better COYB.

Agree6 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i know i keep saying it billy but this is not a quick fix, its going to take a few windows before we see major improvement in our status but i think the football will be better to watch, patience is the key mate and being realistic in our expectations..

27 Jul 2018 09:38:46
I am with billydean on this. Some posts are just blind faith ones. We did struggle last year. Even at the end with the signings of Walcott and Tosun. Our football was terrible and we ground out a few results. I believe the signing of Richarlison a good one . but we have not been a cohesive unit for quite a while now. That will take time. I suspect we will struggle against the top 6 still. What will be inportant is how we perform against teams around our level. last season's starts was so bad that we were conceding goals left right and center. We need that to have been sorted. Hopefully having Baines, Jags and Coleman fit will help. Another good signing or 2 would also help.

Agree3 Disagree0

27 Jul 2018 10:26:11

27 Jul 2018 11:07:55
I believe its another center half we need unless Holgate has improved? He is still only 21 so has plenty of time but we need an experienced center half to replace Jags and Williams and Mori. All of which are either gone, on their last legs or now plainly not good enough.

Agree2 Disagree0

27 Jul 2018 11:15:28
Regarding further incomings. at least one CB and cover for baines would be great. given that we have Walcott, rich, lookman, sigs and vilasic. is that enough quality creativity. if so I'd say we need to give besic and gana a chance to play together in midfield or bring in another quality cm. Schneider Lin is not an Everton player for me. not enough industry.

Agree2 Disagree0

27 Jul 2018 13:57:55
These days suppoerters in general, not just Evertonians are very impatient. The younger fans do not seem to appreciate that success comes slowly most of the time. Even money bags City did not win things overnight when the money arrived.
Spurs are still recovering from getting a lot wrong after Bale tranfare.
Everton took a long time to succeed under Kendall.
Having said this I still think Silva is the wrong man for our great club.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Jul 2018 14:01:29
Completely agree. I thought Ricky adds pace to a team that has lacked it for 20 years. We've never really had pacey direct wingers with an end product and this guy looks like he might just add it.

I'd like over the next couple of games see Holgate, Baines, Keane and Coleman play the first half of games together and get Pickford back into that team. No doubt two of those players, Baines and a coin toss between any of the CB, will be replaced by the two lads from Barcelona but we need the most regular CB pairing getting to grips with Silva defensive set ups.

Keane is still a big concern for me and I don't know whether we need to just bite the bullet with him. Walsh has a lot to answer for. It's going to take brands and Silva time to sort this mess out but with Ricky and the players we are linked and looking at it does seem like we have the right people in place.

It's pretty clear who needs to go but we do need a better back up keeper. After seeing Pickford, Stek looks utterly stationary and is clearly not a challenger.

We're a couple of weeks into Silva reign and we all need a little patience.

Unfortunately games like this one are not for us the supporters to get excited about, its for the manager to assess the players In the squad and then he has to manager the situation, that's what is being paid for. He has already stated he would like 5 or 6 new recruits and now you can see why, he knows everything he wants to know now before the season starts, so in so many ways the defeat last night for me was An excellent result.

Believable6 Unbelievable0

27 Jul 2018 10:46:24
defeat was an excellent result for yourself - the travelling fans last night deserved better plain and simple - to be rolled over by blackburn was not acceptable - yes we know the team would be not at full strength last night and yes we should have scored but to be honest it was embarassing and diabolical at times.

We have been chasing according to the papers a couple of defenders for a week or so - get them in or move on I say. instead we splash millions on a player who by all accounts had a good game last night when we have plenty of players for this position.

I hear the same story everytime we get a new manager - will take time, its a project, a few transfer windows will be needed etc but if Silva does not get off to a good start the knives will be out unfortunately - that's football - a result business I am afraid.

Agree3 Disagree2

27 Jul 2018 14:10:27
Pavillion, you already have the knives out, every deal that doesn't happen, every bad result, albeit a friendly, you are here with your negativity!
Of course it's a project and it will take time, that's what usually happens with a change of manager, we just have to be patient and believe that the board has learnt from the mistakes of last year. If you expect free flowing football from the off then I think your expectations need to be reassessed. It took Pep a year at City even with the quality they have!
