Use our rumours form to send us everton transfer rumours.

I know in my head this is probably rubbish but I remember an old midfield 'crock' languishing in the reserves during the 80s career over after being blighted with injuries.
Kendall played him after a humiliating defeat against the reds.
We went on to become the greatest Everton team in our history.
The player?
Peter Reid. Step up to the plate Darren Gibson!

Step up to the plate Darren Gibson

Step up to the plate Gibbo!

{Ed025's Note - love it mushy, heady days mate...it would be great if gibbo has the same effect as reidy..

27 Feb 2015 22:48:30
Peter reid haha rite minge bag him he ran me over an gave me a quid

28 Feb 2015 22:38:59
As Peter Reids name has been mentioned, would anyone see him as a short term Everton manager if the need arose. Knows the club, has premiership experience. Is he still involved abroad?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - hes just a pundit now i think keenone..

27 Feb 2015 14:08:25
Taking my satnav back to the shop later, it keeps telling me liverpool's in Europe.

(I know it's an old one but it makes me laugh on days like this)

Can anyone answer this please as I cannot find this query anywhere. On the way to the game last night we (Son and me) got talking about all things Everton. From the recesses of my memory I told him that I remember in the recent pass that even though Everton Home kit has been blue that somewhere in the Shirt would be a little colour green, he told me that's rubbish. Am I talking dangly things (some would say as per usual) or is memory correct.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Feb 2015 15:28:57
We've had numerous home kits over the years from Salmon pink, blue and white stripes, a black shirt with a red stripe (The Black Watch) and believe it or not a RED shirt (although this has been debated many times)!! but none with any green in it ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Everton originally played in red and Liverpool in blue and white quarters. Can you imagine if a kit manufacturer tried to do an anniversary kit for either club in original colours? Would anyone buy one?}

27 Feb 2015 15:57:47
Ed:

Didn't we sell those kits to a bloke from Bristol?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - which ones? There were a few mentioned in that post and reply!}

27 Feb 2015 16:24:59
''Everton originally played in red and Liverpool in blue and white quarters. ''

Just the 2.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - the poster my note was on mentioned a few and I did ask if anyone would buy an anniversary kit too, so there were a few!

I don't know what happened to the original kits, anyone else know?}

28 Feb 2015 11:57:19
I thought we played in white & gold!

Kiev in the next round, it's never easy travelling that distance and it's likely to be a difficult environment to play in but I think we've already played and beat better teams in the competition this season and it's a decent draw for us.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

27 Feb 2015 13:09:03
Really happy with the draw, one of a couple of teams I wanted, would always want second leg at home ideally but we can't have it all. If we play to the level we have been so far in this tournament there is no reason we can make the quarters. Outside of our draw there some big team playing each other which I'm pleased about

Funny how there is an all spanish tie and an all italian tie but no all english tie. What a shame! Lol I will settle for that.

Robbie you can bet your life on it, that if the red side went through the two of us would of been drawn together.

.I watched Gibsons performance very closely last night.he was immense.we all forget before his injury problems back in Moyes days he was a mainstay in the team. just needs to stop picking up injuries. as a player he likes to run the show in midfield & push his team forwards & has great technical ability at spraying superb passes all around the field.for me, he has to stay in the team now as he offers us something different going forwards & will be a lot more consistent than Ross is just at the mo.

27 Feb 2015 14:08:42
Totally agree with your comments. He always looks for the forward pass instead of passing it sideways. The team have performed a lot better since he's come back ino the team.Garbutt excellent and deserves a run in the team.

Gibson is as close to what Tommy Graveson was for us. We've got good combative midfielder's and good attacking central midfielder's but not one that can fit both or that one player in-between that can help the transition quickly from defense to attack.

Besic is a good player but likes the ball too much, not giving it to the forward players fast enough. When he plays the team play a slower pace.

Barry hits one good pass every 20 but breaks up play. It's just no good doing this when you're not leading a match or getting beat.

McCarthy lacks that vision and ability of an attacking midfielder but is getting better all the time. He wouldn't have hit that pass for Mirallas last night.

So, it's usually left up to the wingers to do it.

Naismith and Barkley are far too forward although when Barkley played that deeper role against QPR it was probably his best performance this season (why this has not been done since as a central 2 is beyond me).

So Gibson gives us a PLAN B in the centre of midfield. Something we've all been looking for all season.

so the draw awaits us, I know there's some good teams left, napoli are the favorites, but let's not forget young boys beat them 2 nil in group stages, me I would like us to get brugges.bring it on

Am I the only one to notice Ossie quietly slip onto the turf and make quite a few lovely little through passes and even score a disallowed header? He played forwards through on at least 4 or 5 times yet was only on the pitch 15 mins. can't wait for him to start a game.

Wey hey. we are all being positive about it. And yes I had a very smug feeling when he ran on. Then some even smugger moments when he started his little flicks setting players through. particularly Seamus who suddenly blossomed. I was in the Gladwys St stood up on my own. Got back 3.30am this morning knackered but smiling. I hope you all see where I was coming from with him now. its not that he is brilliant. more that he gets more out of the players around him. I personally think he has got 2 more seasons in him. Thanks for the positive support Swan and dentielad.

I see some of the post beforehand criticising the team selection saying it was a time for fringe players. Roberto can't win. It is always best to play a stronger team win the game then take the best players off then give fringe players game time. Bloody hell if he would play the youngsters and got knocked out his head would be called for. It was good to see the confidence come back once we went in front, players looking for the ball. The sooner we get this anxiety away from goodison the better and better days ahead. Oh and I don't see any teams left in the Europa we can't beat. One team I would rather avoid is Napoli. And hope for home leg 2nd.

I don't see many teams that we are better than - certainly not based on form this season. Torino, Brugges or Dnipro for me but ultimately I'm more concerned about securing our premiership safety.

27 Feb 2015 06:50:39
Garbutt or Oviedo at LB for me, not Bainsey at the moment. Coleman charging. McArthy everywhere, Gibson decisive, Barry so so, Naismith what can I say, Mirallas got the crowd back, Lucky confidence different in UEFA than the League why. All in all that was the Everton we want to see. Roberto needs to do some serious analysis.

27 Feb 2015 07:44:01
I think Naismith in need of a rest when opportunity arises ready for the run in

My thoughts from tonight's game:

Howard - looks shaky and makes our defence nervous

Coleman - much better from him, getting back to some decent form.

Jags - same as Coleman

alcaraz - to slow, gives away stupid free kicks and only used in desperation.

macarthy - solid and never gives up.

besic - great player, not the finished article but should a starter against arsenal. Offers more mobility than Barry and his passes are more intelligent.

Barry - same as alcaraz.

mirallas - needs to stop trying so hard and looks like he is trying to put his name in lights ready for a summer move, great player on his day.

naismith - everywhere on the pitch, intelligent and a true blue but looked knackered towards the end.

Lukaku - will always score goals but looks unfit and needs to work on his ball control.

Kone - really impressed with him, looked fresh, sharp and good link up play.

Osman - not a starter but great as a sub if the game is a compact affair.

Garbutt - great player, I hope he signs on and should start against arsenal.

All in all, great result. Scoreline flattered us and hides Martinez cracks but it's nice to get a win as I don't think we will see one for a few weeks. Kone & lukaku upfront against aresenl for me!

Quality player and brought something different for our forward line to feed off. I would like to see: besic, Mccarthy and Gibson as a trio.
