Are we mathematically safe yet Eds? Just read that Bournemouth may miss out on automatic promotion if there's a 19 goal turnaround this weekend. So just need some reassurance. Forever glass half empty bluenose me. Great win Saturday though! Cheers

{Ed003's Note - you're safe :) }

We are mathematically safe. The bottom two are down and third bottom Sunderland would need to win all their remaining games to overtake us, including the fixture against fourth bottom Leicester on the 16th May which would then mean Leicester couldn't overtake us. Either way we can't finish in the bottom 3.

I'll be gutted if we don't sign Lennon permenantly. It's like we have 12 men when he plays and his enthusiasm is spreading threw the team. Get as much as we can for mirallas, sign Lennon plus another winger would love perasic but can't see it

Or keep them both. KM is so good in one on one situations. He just made the best keeper in the world look clueless.

28 Apr 2015 07:29:56
He will score a good goal and produce a good bit of skill every now and then but in the modern game u need to be doing a lot more than that. when can u remember him actually grabbing a game by the scruff? And If we had played him from the start last week Man U would of been dangerous down what ever wing he was playing on. He doesn't want to be there has a bad attitude and isn't half as good as he thinks he is a player like this is no good for the team
that attitude can spread like a disease. Get rid and get someone who wants it more

No doubt KM has had his issues this season and hopefully like jimmy Mac will stay and improve the team next term. Why sell your better players!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - he is a bit of a loose cannon for me wakka, he is a fine player but he has issues, managed properly he can be a great asset so long as he is not disruptive to the rest of the squad..

28 Apr 2015 10:30:11
A bit of a Tarrabt attitude me thinks, undoubted talent but an ego that is bigger than the talent.

Hopefully Ed025 he's learnt that no player is bigger than the club!

Great to hear Mirallas and McCarthy show some commitment to the club. It's the first time in a long time I've heard a player come out and say something positive about being at the club.

I've got my problems with Mirallas like you ED and I'm 50/50 on whether I like him or not. There are ways of doing things and I think the way he behaved didn't do himself any favours.

One day, when they leave Everton, they will realise what they had. Yes we give a bit of stick when you don't perform but we want not just the club to succeed but also the player. When their career is over, I've never known a club to carry on supporting players as much as what Everton do.

The club itself doesn't just disregard them when their careers are gone, they keep them involved in some capacity and they continue to be part of the family with the door always open. They're not all tour guides either like the red lot over the road. Their input is spread throughout the club which means Everton still feels like Everton from when I was a kid.

We fans are critical as I said but all of that is forgotten when they no longer play and only the good memories are left but while you are here show a bit of Everton class.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i love that about us john, you see i still see us a family club who must be great to play for as well as support, and thats also why i defend BK because he is the reason it works, i know we would all love bundles of cash to spend but i would not sacrifice the integrity of the club for 40 pieces of silver mate, but i may be in the minority on that one..

27 Apr 2015 18:16:21
I like some other posters ed thought little lenny was useless at spurs but when he put on that blue shirt he knew what it meant to play for everton and his application and commitment on the pitch has been nothing short of sensational to see him among the goalscorers and celebrations when we score is a true indication of a player who is enjoying himself just look at the smile on his face evey time he is with the players and to see stonesy carrying him at the end like his little brother shows he has been accepted as an everton player hope we can secure his services on a permanent basis because he is bringing out the best in seamus again and the best in us as a team coyb I love ya

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i felt the same al, did not fancy him at all but to see his commitment and endeavor has changed my mind, i think he would be a quality addition mate..

27 Apr 2015 19:17:30
I'm going to sound smug here but I called it when we signed him. Iv got friends who are spurs fans though and they can't speak more highley about the lad

I'm still not sold on him and want to see more from him. He does loads of running but the end product isn't great.

He's got 2 goals and 2 assists this season in 20 games and last season it was 1 goal and 3 assists in 32. I want someone who is going to take us to the next level and going to score 10 to 15 goals with 7 to 10 asissts.

I think we compare him to what we have got which is McGeady and Atsu. For me he is a good squad player but we need proper quality.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i have to say he has won me over up to now john, at the right price i would have no doubt about taking him mate..

Credit to Martinez for yesterday and there's no need for any negativity from me.

I don't care how we win as long as we win. Hopefully he has learned that it's not about possession of the ball but what you do with the ball when in possession.

We are becoming more direct and I mean that instead of making sideways passes we are looking to move the ball quicker into the forward areas.

The trick for next season is to be adaptable and recognise QUICKLY when we need to change our style.

A big well done to our three middle men yesterday. Barry, McCarthy and Barkley were exceptional and didn't put a foot wrong. They all worked well with the back four and keeper and smothered there attacking threat.

In attack Baines and Coleman added great support and were quick and incisive. Baines in particular was outstanding. His deliveries were some of the best I've seen this season from him.

Man of the Match for me though was Duncan Ferguson. His celebrations in the dug out were utter passion.

BlueJohn:

This is my mantra too mate!

Felt the same about Big Dunc as well,

his love of our club is clear to see .

I don't know if anyone watched Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink on Sky yesterday but the first thing he talked about was being flexible and adaptive in his tactics.

Van Gaal talked the same this season about adapting to suit the team and before you say "we just beat them 3-0", they are 4th and we're 10th.

My point is whether you are at the top of the premier league or down in League 2 you have to be willing to change and be adaptable to meet each challenge.

I believe Martinez understands this now but it shouldn't be taking half a season to do so. He also hasn't got excuses like at Wigan that he has a small squad, no money, best players sold to fall back on, so we are not as forgiving here at Everton.

However, he has changed but consistency from the manager next season will be required as much as the players.

{Ed025's Note - fair points there john mate..

the tactics and style also got the fans excited which i'm turn spurred the team on, it was far more exciting, we defended magnificently Howard did not have one outstanding save to make unlike De Gea, however if we caused ourselves problems it was overpassing down the centre of midfield!
Big Dunc agreed such a legend!

I did see that John, one part that stood out to me was he said he wanted those around him to tell him the truth, no matter what it was if they disagreed with him, then they would sit down and discuss things before making a final decision.

I have to agree with what you say. I have been one of the managers critics and wanted him out, but fair play to him over the past few weeks he seems to have taken in what was being said, if he has learned the lessons of this season and carries this on into next season then there is no reason why we can not bounce back and be more like the Everton of last season which is all we asked for.

I was wondering if the Europa had more of an effect than we realised, not just on the players? It was Martinez's first European experience as a manager, perhaps as a player (not sure on that one) Maybe the poor league form and the pressure on him was far more than he anticipated? I say that as yesterday for the first time in a long while he seemed to talk sense in his post match interview and it seemed as I had been watching the same game as him.

Phenomenal! Good to see the confidence back. And credit to our manager(or as others call him a fraud) tut tut! I didn't like to blame playing in Europe because we played poor even when we had a break from the comp. but we are now playing with high intensity and being first to the ball and this is one of our strengths, maybe playing Europe we can only perform to 90% which is not good enough when you want to get in teams faces.

Robbie :

You have every right to bemoan the anti RM faction (which I am one )

and celebrate his tactics to boot!

However he is only just stirring to the smell of the coffee!

Trust me mate, the squeaky hinge always gets the oil and without the squad plus a section of the fans demanding adaptability and plan 'b' we would still be talking about pendulum footy (side to side motion only)

That said the rest of your post is spot on.

Obviously a lot of things have come together recently. I am sure Eto'o disrupted the dressing room for a while and Mirrallas also was a bit of a whinger too. We had Europe and lots of key injuries to key players too. But the one thing I harped on about for ages and was absolutely ridiculed for saying it was the importance of Osman to the balance of the squad. RM said before the game that he had picked him for exactly this reason. And his experience in helping the younger players. It is no surprise to me that when we went 11 games without a win, Osman was injured during that period. It as also no surprise to me that when Osman has played, wehave only lost 5 or 6 games (cant be bothered looking up definitively yet again). Lots of our fans have slated him, but yesterday he took the left side of midfield (not his usual position) and gave another steady performance. Nothing spectacular, but defensively very strong. Another clean sheet against a top side. One point I will bow down to, was that I was impressed with Lennon's work rate. I have never been impressed when he was at Spurs, but he also seems to give us balance. And my posts about John Stones are still proving to be true. He will be Englands captain by the time he is 23. I have no doubt about that whatsoever. There is no way we will keep him so we should give him the best contract the club can afford so that we at least get a world record fee when he finally goes.

He makes the hard through balls look simple, makes space and time to for himself and also for others. He's a calming influence when under pressure but most of all his level of play is the same in every game.

He's not a shining star but the one that makes the stars shine.

Have to agree with you Degsy, Stones will go at some stage let's hop its not to soon and like you I would put him on a contract that will make any bid for him exceptionally high. IMO he is probably the only current English defender that would be comfortable playing in a Spanish team so that opens the door to the big spenders and hopefully keeps it shut for the nearly rans.
