Seen lots of posts on him, I'm going to get slaughtered now but here goes. If Utd come knocking in Jan for Baines with an offer whose total value amounts to at least £18m I think we should just sell without digging our heels in. For the following reasons:

1) We have started really well, in Jan we could be in a position where champions league football is a possibility. Do we need one of the most important months of the season filled with constant negativity and speculation?
2) Selling our best players doesn't do any favours, but i'm not sure that Baines is as important to us under Martinez as he was for Moyes. He is a class player who will always be a threat, but I think Coleman has looked more impressive going forward. I'm not saying we wouldn't miss Baines, but the wheels won't fall off if he was sold.
3) Oviedo. We have a replacement sat on the bench. If we think back to when Baines was signed, he wasnt near the team. Lescott was our left back. And a dam good one too. He scored goals and was a top defender. It's taken Baines a while to get to the standard he is at now defensively. I think the same could happen to Oviedo. He is a very gifted footballer and going forward he will be a threat. He just needs a regular chance. Just like Baines got when we sold Lescott.
4)£££s. let's say we accept a bid in that region at the start of the window. We have the rest of January where if a top player not getting a game at a stupidly rich club becomes available we have the funds to get him.

Not saying for one minute that I want him gone. He is a class act. But if he did go, i'm just saying its not the end of the world.

Keep baines - we aim to compete - not sell - selling sends out the wrong signal to fans and the rest of the team - shows we don't believe in ourselves

Agree0 Disagree0

Sensible argument, we have strength in this position. What we need is a cd and striker. Speculate to accumulate. Time does not stand still.

I have to agree with the op. would love to keep baines as last year most of our threat was down the left but this season the kev and coleman flank has been far more productive. ill let Roberto make the decision

Agree0 Disagree0

It's all very well saying keep Baines, if the player wants to go then he go'es with good wishes from all of us, Baines has been a great player for us but if the lad wants to play against the top players in Europe who are we to say don't sell him, I hope he decides to stay, as the the saying go'es THE GRASS IS NOT ALWAYS GREENER. But you can't just keep a player because we want him to stay. We then get as much money as we can, no Anderson's or Nanni's in part ex, for me RB will buy a new full back I don't think Oviedo will be Baines replacement. But now we will be in for another 3 months of speculation. KK.

Just started reading Alex Fergusons autobiography but can't finish it as every time I get to the end Howard Webb adds 6 extra pages. On a more serious note anther game changing sub from Roberto today, he ain't afraid to change it when it's not working {Ed025's Note - love it gray.. :)

Barkley is a class player but I feel he is becoming too greedy around the box I know he is young but he has to learn it is a team game 2 great opportunity s to slip players through today but decided to shoot that can be the difference between winning and losing and it took Osman to come of the bench and show that I hope he learned from that.I'm not saying he should not shoot but has to learn when to and when not to its as simple as that I really hope Martinez sits him down and shows he the video of the game. on a brighter note i'm delighted with the win. {Ed025's Note - ross still has a lot to learn, but he is still young, and i have no doubt he has a big part to play this season mate..

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree he wants to be Roy of the Rovers every time he gets the ball. Oman may not have the legs anymore but for the last 30mins playing behind the striker he is still a class act. Barkley will learn with experience

I have to say I am chuffed to bits. I have read a few posts these last weeks slagging off Tim Howard and more to the point Ossie. Howard apparently was superb today. Chuffed for him. Ossie who has been as loyal as any footballer in the modern game has had some real criticism lately. I myself thought he was playing ok when picked, but nothing special. I am really chuffed that he has now staked a claim for 1st team action again.
RM was quite correct when he said you have to have players fighting and competing for starting positions, it makes for a healthy squad. Pienaar last week, Ossie this week.

Good post that hopefully the Ossie bashers will now stop and support all of our team, GuernseyBlue

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Ossie still has a part to play but not as a deep lying midfielder. He's clearly not suited to that role.
Bringing him on in Barkley's position when it's not working for Ross, like today, he can be very effective at exploiting space against tired legs and he can certainly do some damage there.

At last a post where people agree with me. Take that Granville LOL Mate
Degsypulford {Ed025's Note - dood stuff degsy..

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree about our squad, I think it's the best we have had in the premier league era. As for Ossie I think the bashers had a point regarding his performances as a defensive midfielder. He gave the ball away in very dangerous areas too regularly. Further up the pitch he has always been a class act. Great feet and turn of pace, he has lots to offer up there without a doubt.

Thus proving that those not cutting it, need a kick up the ass

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree, excellent sub ozzie defo made am impact, rob getting good at these subs haha, howard though outstanding, 3 superb saves in the first half he may not have scored the goals but imo he won us the game {Ed025's Note - the good ting about bobby, is that he does not leave it too late for the sub to make an impact TB...(unlike some manager i could mention).. :)

Agree0 Disagree0

What kick up the ass? Pienaar got injured Ossie played. Pienaar came back Ossie was on the bench. How is that a kick up the ass?

And Howard? What kick up the ass did he get exactly? Stop chattin rubbish and give credit where it's due!

Great game Blues. Bob is more tactically aware than moyes and shows in his subs. Barclay will be great but needed the experience and subtlety of ozzie in second half. Well done lads. don't like to talk about the past but how much did Moyes pay again for Fellaini to sit on the bench. ha ha. Sorry.

There's an f word missing from my post, obviously.

No need for that. It's a genuine enquiry for some info. I know the other Ed's help out when the usual one can't but I think that's well out of order. Ed 025 would never post a reply like that. {Ed025's Note - ED02 does a hell of a lot of work for the site tezza, and has obviously got fed up answering questions that are the same all the time mate..take it with a pinch of salt..

Agree0 Disagree0

I wasn't sure myself mate, note the question mark at the end? But it was my guess as the Ed said and was not meant to be interpreted as you have done.
