2 points dropped. I felt even when we had 10 to their 11 we looked likely to win the game. Soft penalty to give away and then to concede from a corner as well to allow Bournemouth off the hook. Attacking wise some of the movement is great but again as with Wolves the defending has let us down. On a positive note that's 3 games unbeaten.

The thing that holds us in good stead is Silva is clearly head and shoulders more tactically astute than old brown shoes.

The team is playing good football. I think we are in for a vastly more enjoyable and successful season.
Carabao is perfect for the fringe players and to rest some others. Lookman starts for me with Bernard.

MyTeam, have to disagree with you there mate, from what I have seen so far the Team plays exactly the same way as when Martinez was in charge the first season. Our two full backs charging forward in attempt at all costs to increase the pressing game and then not having the nounce to close the opposition flank players down quick enough. Just look at the stats, yet again we suffer from easy crosses into the box.

Gutted for Keane. Head injuries are scary, wishing him all the best.

4 Bookings 2 Sending offs in 3 games.

Don't know about the dogs of war, it's more like resevoir dogs now.

One thing is a certainty and that is we will struggle to win the fair play award this season.

Oh happy days.

Finally SOG we have some bite in our team.

Needs to be tempered though lads. The reality is we are already 4 points behind the top 3 and currently sitting 8th (where we finished) and not played any of the so-called top sides. In all honesty we should also be sitting on 9 points and if we had been disciplined and cut out the silliness we would be. Like everyone else I like what I see attack wise and we now have a team where every player is in his preferred position. Brands and Silva now need to be ruthless and tell the likes of Bainsie and Jags they are no longer first choice.

I'd lower the eyes KTF and anyone else dreaming of 6th upwards. Let's get the players understanding the ethos at the club before thinking of the top 6.

If we are 3 to 6 points behind them by March then start believing we can do it. Personally, 8th would be fine for me and then build from solid foundations for next season.

Progress can't be made in three games.

My expectations BlueJohnUns (and realistic imo) are no lower than 7th/ 8th and no lower than 10th come January then push on.

Richarlison to miss 3 games, Bernard not up to speed. I'd be telling Lookman he is going nowhere until at least January.

{Ed0333's Note - I think that fella is class, I hope he stays and cements a place in the team. You’d be crazy to let lookman go.

Silva could certainly get a tune out of the lad.

The game didn't curb my positivity because we set up well as a team. We all know the defense is a work in progress so no rhe defence doesn't worry me as such because we would still concede with a back 11 last season. It will take time, especually with a while new way of defending and wih the new signigs to be integrated into the team. The players are working and fighting for each other. I felt that we were let down by two individual mistakes from Richarlison and Baines. Them two moments undid the hard work that was put in as a unit. Bournemout are a quick team which hit fast amd hard and I was actually impressed with how we played wih ten men. Baines looked immense the first two games but with Digne breathing down his neck he needs to do better in the future. I won't focus on the two incidents too much but felt sorry for the team and the coaching staff as what can you do in those circumstances. Obviously Richarlisons one speaks for itself. I particularly enjoyed watching the ball being hunting down like they were a pack of wolves. Upwards and onwards.

I think what is impressing me most Blue is the imagination and inventiveness they are showing.

Sig and Theo again from a free-kick, took it early and quick leaving Bournemouth on the back foot. When the ball came in their defend a, unable to set up properly, where all over the place.

The other positive is the pace we now seem to be attacking with. Walcott goal is what we've lacked last season after Rom left left.

Plenty of work to do at the back although it might be better to judge with 10 men on the pitch.

As supporters we are a fickle bunch. After the first 2 games most of us were talking up Baines and how good he had been. Now, 90 minutes later he's past it and everyone's calling for Digne. He had a bad game, we've all had them

Sorry to see and hear about Keane's injury and I wish him a speedy recovery from his fracture but I'm also looking forward to seeing what 2 out of 3 Silva picks from Holgate, Zouma and Mina,

2 games now where we are reduced to 10 men before half time but still go on to take the lead and narrowly miss out on the 3 points - a massive change on what would of happened last season.

Still time for plenty of optimism

Baines has been an absolute quality player over the years, but he looked like time has caught up with him yesterday. I can see improvements in all the team from last year, but i feel zouma, mina and digne will male us a stronger team.

But as BW says, people are fickle. I said before the start of the season that I thought he had one more in him. Did I think he’d be as flawless as he’s been? No, but I’d put a fiver on now that his good game to bad game ratio is 4:1 this year. Tell me another player who has a better ratio than that.

Get off his back. He’ll be one of our most consistent performers this year while Digne is slowly phased in to replace him.

While I love all the positivity at the moment their is still a big issue with our defence.
Conceding five goals in three games is not good, and is something we have to deal with quickly. We could and should be sitting on nine points now.
We are never going to win the league with this team. But if we sort out the defence then a cup is well within our grasp.
Hopefully the new players we have bought will sort this out. Would love another trip to Wembley.

We are back at the level of a couple of seasons ago. When we used to draw too many games that we should have won. Mina and Zouma are yet to play any time so that is one obvious area. Also we have the left back cover sorted now and in fact Baines might not be number one now? So the start we have had is encouraging. The league is a marathon not a sprint and cup games are a bit away (if we can overcome Rotheram) . so on the positive side of things the club has certainly made progress but is suffering a bit from injuries and suspensions now. Luck has not been good so far. but we sis just behind the top few after 3 games. That is progress on last season.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is a surprise that Zouma has yet to be used - Mina there are clear reasons.}

26 Aug 2018 13:17:11
You have to put in perspective that we've had two of those three games with 10 men.

Additionally, they will still be getting used to Silvas system, zonal marking and new players yet to come in.

The new players have only been at the club for two weeks and will be even further behind.

I'd judge us more in two to three months time, maybe even more so in January.

3 of the 5 goals were conceded whilst down to 10 men.
Bournemouth always claw their way back, regardless who they play.
We will improve at the back with the addition of Zouma and Mina so nothing to panic about yet.
Zonal marking should be the norm for the players once we're a couple of months in.
All in all we have made progress.

It certainly is a surprise about Zouma. I would bow to their greater knowledge but why bring in a lad on loan and not play him. Smit666 again I bow to greater knowledge but prefer man marking, maybe not in tune with the 'modern' thinking but nevertheless works for me. It is refreshing after last season but there are an awful lot of similarities with the Martinez era. The mistakes were there for all to see from Bainsie yesterday but in reality they have always been there its just that his attacking prowess, free kicks and penalties always masked his frailties as a defender, hence why others were always in front of him at International level. Coleman likewise on the other flank, both are wingbacks more than fullbacks, Coleman is ahead because of his relative pace and gnashing of teeth.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2018 14:47:54
Zonal or man marking, I don't mind as long as we have the players playing who can play the style Silva wants.
It's Silvas plan, get the attacking right then work on defence.
Allardyce, get the defending right and then defend some more.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2018 19:25:31
I don't have any issues with the back 4 that started the last 3 matches I actually think Silva looked at who performed in preseason and selected the players he thought where the best. Holgate came in for Jags and played okay with Keane so deserved another chance to show what he can do Zouma replaced Keane (hope he has a speedy recovery) so I expect Holgate and Zouma to be the next CB paring Mina will get his change when he is ready. Drawing games while down to 10 men surely must be a seen as a bonus even if we were in a leading position at the time. Far too many positives at the moment to worry about what may or may not happen. The future looks very bright indeed.

I lose my voice when I'm at the game every single time. Over the years my vocal chords have taken a battering at Goodison.

In the first two away games watching it on the telly my throat is not getting a well earned break jn between. Don't get me wrong I jump up and scream when we score but it's very rare I go on a sing sing for 20 minutes driving the neighbours round the bend. I really need to buy them a bottle of something and apologise.

fat fingers. Anyway, I've watched for 2 years our terrible away form and us never looking like winning a match. However, here we are almost winning our first two this season and with 10 men both times.

I felt sick after the second goal went in but more the fact the players deserved to get the three points after putting in a brilliant performance again.

Baines made a bad mistake and that gave them the impetus to go on for the second goal. Whereas, we dropped off after conceding and caused our own problems.

Nevertheless, we are making great progress this season and if we continue to go in the right direction we can really push those above us.

I've got my fingers crossed for Keane in what looked a terrible injury and was out cold for a long time. He'd had one of his best games with us and is another player that seems to be improving under Silva. I wish him a speedy recovery.

The fact we have played 2 out of 3 games with 10 men amd still not lost is a, good sign. But let's hope we can start keeping 11 men on the pitch and getting the 3 points. i'm still not convinced with the bwck four, baines looks slow getting back when out of position, and the two centre halfs get caught out with simple balls over the top. Marking from corners in everygame has been shocking. Surely we will start seeing the new players integrated into the team soon .
