Use our rumours form to send us everton transfer rumours.

26 Aug 2013 22:32:35
If the inevitable happens and felli leaves then martinez needs to aim higher than another wigan player like mccarthy. Surely for the money being quoted, around 15mil, there must be a player that will entertain us out there? Much prefer a class striker like defoe? Feeling uninspired. Sorry.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

A class striker- yes. Like Defoe-no no no he's just about better than an out of form jely and worse than kone why do people think he's the answer

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd like to see McCarthy for 10m, diame for 5m and Defoe would not be a bad shout. but don't see him moving north tbh. tbh I thought long had a great season last year with WBA. he may not be world class but he knows where the net is. surely something less than 10m would secure his services. and I reckon the combined wages could be doable. especially when you consider heitinga could well be gone next year, nevilles off the books, along with mucha, hitzelspurger, and moyesey. I think that lowers our avg age and brings great talent and experience. Jcl

Agree0 Disagree0

Defoe is nothing special, why do people keep going on about him?

Agree0 Disagree0

Defoe might no longer anything special, but I still think "Robinson Crusoe" is a rattling good read ;-)

Is it me or are we now getting so desperate for someone to sign, then we don't care who they are, but if their Dutch or Italian then they must be good. I haven't heard of half the players we are being tagged with. But do question if they can't get in the Juve first team, were they play tippy tippy football all fall down. How the hell are they going to survive here. Squalari, Drenthe spring to mind. Buy proven players or don't bother.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree Twoold far too many players mentioned that are not 1st team regulars but seem to be worth a fair bit of cash. If we are going to spend it should be on a player that has a proven pedigree or a player that Martinez really wants.

SA90

Agree0 Disagree0

I see what you mean OP but some players who cannot get into teams sometimes need a fresh start and they may be a perfect fit for our team.who really had heard of fella before we signed him.quality footballers are worldwide but you ain't going to know unless you take that chance.a 20 mill striker may score no more goals for us as say a 4 mill striker who unheard of but has been given a chance

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree dentielad. I still think we should have taken a punt on Phillip Hosiner from Austria Vienna for £4M, rather than Defoe, or someone who doesn't have many seasons left in him. Has that ship sailed Ed?

There's a post below that I'm going to comment on, but thought no one would read the last post, so.

"Anyone think we need a quick 25 goal a season striker?"

The rubbish had the second best goal scorer in the league last season, where did they finish?

City came second, NONE of their strikers got above 20 goals!

Mitchu was up there with the best of them, supposed to be a midfielder.

Bale, started out as a left back, then winger, then free-ish role. Is he a striker?

And not to bore you all, one player.

Messi. What position is he again?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

My point is, other than United, how many other teams won something with a 20+ striker??

Agree0 Disagree0

Doc. I can't argue with your logic, makes perfect sense

But add another 11 goals to jellys total last season with just half of them coming in the games that we drew and we would safely be in CL this season

It's not a given that a 25 goal a season striker would win you stuff but look at the difference it would make to us.

I would like to see Jelavic given a free role and basically let his natural instincts carry him through each game.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Mirralas needs to b givin free roll, jelly has to be left in box and told DO not LEAVE

I think that's what i'm trying to true blue, just leave him out of the team talks and let him STAY in the box.

Cnt have him runnin channels, he's a goal scorer, he wnt score goals out der, we can see it, surely bobby can too, piennar needs to stay out left and we need a pacy winger on the right to allow mirralas space

Agree0 Disagree0

You might be on to something there Degsy. Jelavic does seem to have put a bit of weight on since last season. Maybe he had Kone's Jelly and rolls while he was fasting for Ramadan.

This has been a decent transfer window so far I know we haven't spent that much but we got some good players in and there's still time left we've also kept everybody which is good but to make this transfer window brilliant we still need a bit more I'd say a CM and a direct attacker so Marrone permanent and Moses on loan then I'd sell heitinga and bring in alderwied. I know wages may be a problem but I'd hope we could stretch for the new manager

Hey ed! I see Wesley Sneidjer is available for 6m would this be not worth a punt. What would his wages be. {Ed001's Note - I don't know what his wages are, but a couple of years ago, when Man City and Utd were both in for him, he asked City for £250k a week + the use of a private jet to fly him home after training each day. I would not expect his wage demands to have dropped quite so far that he would be worth a punt.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Worrying if they do get stuffed, as it would mean he will defo be back in for our lads. If they win he might think otherwise and he doesn't need them.

But on the other hand if he gets desperate then the price goes up and up.

Is it me or does Jelavic look a lost puppy he needs to start learning the offside rule too.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think he needs to play with another striker to get the best out of him.

Agree0 Disagree0

So if he had another striker alongside him he would not be offside as much?

Agree0 Disagree0

Controversial I know, but I think he plays better with Naismith.

They still seem to have an understanding together.

Just my opinion tho

Agree0 Disagree0

He needs somebody playing a similar role just off him, he was onfire for us when he first arrived as he had Cahill playing just behind him. Need someone like that, i'd go for Naismith, works hard, wins a lot of headers for a small guy plus it gets him off the right wing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Naismith was one of our best players in pre season, he needs to be played just behind jelly like he was at rangers and goals will fly in for the both of them

(1) Who would prefer the transfer windows to be completely scrapped? There'd still be a cut-off date towards the end of the league season, so that clubs couldn't bring in extra players just for the last few games in order to secure a finishing position. Players would also be cup-tied for that season if they move clubs and have already played in a particular cup competition. There might also be a limit on how many clubs a player could move to permanently during a league season. Multiple loan periods would be OK.
(2) Who would prefer the Summer transfer window to close immediately before the start of the domestic league season? The only problem I see is for clubs still playing in the European qualifying rounds after their domestic campaign has already begun, as they might want to bring in players depending on getting into (or not as the case may be) the group stages. The winter transfer window would stay as is - possibly at the same time as a winter break.
(3) Who would keep the current system just as it is?
(4) Has anyone got any other suggestions for revamping (and hopefully improving!) the current system? Should transfer fees be scrapped or replaced by fixed compensation amounts depending on length of remaining contracts, age of players, length of time at current clubs (i.e. years spent being developed the academy, etc.)? There are some rules already in place. As for scrapping fees meaning that the "big" clubs will just pay massive wages to secure the best players, there are rules being put in place to restrict wage bills. As for smaller (lower league) clubs losing out on fees, the compensation amounts could be increased and include future additional payments based on a player's progress and his new club's success.
One thing to remember IMHO: the transfer fee is payment for the transfer of the player's registration to his new club while he is under contract to his old club. It's not be player who is being bought and sold - it's not slavery! I have little doubt that the players' unions (domestic and international) will use employment law to fundamentally change how football transfers will be done in future and there'll be a set of rules that set compensation amounts for players changing clubs while still under contract - albeit only at certain periods such as in between seasons and not mid-season and with a reasonable period of notice given. IMHO clubs will have to plan for players (and agents) deciding that a player is going to leave. The days of retain & transfer or being an indentured servant or being the property of a football club have long gone.
Apologies if this post is too long for some of you ;-) but an occasional essay amongst the craic is surely acceptable.
Once a blue, always a blue!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The original post is mine. I was sure I was logged in. Must be another old-timer's moment.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the transfer window should be open all year long, as this would decrease the prices as teams can buy when needed or if a club wants to just get rid of a player,

but with that say any player can only play for 2 clubs in a calader year and that's when all cup ties would be reset at the sme time.

wages should go on the players international games, i.e No games 5k max, 1-5 games 10k, 6-10 games 15k, and so on up to the max of 50k, as no player no matter how good you are should get paid more than that.

and you can do a similar kind of system, as this would open the doors for teams to get so better players and it makes a more of a fairer playing field for teams to sign players and pay wages

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2013 14:47:58
Well strictly speaking the current transfer system is completely contrary EU Law regarding the freedom of movement of labour. Its a hotch potch and if ever was challenged could bring the whole structure down.
We've seen in the past UEFA thinking they are above EU law but the Bosman ruling saw that blown out of the water, if you do business in the EU you are subject to EU law, in fact EU law is UK law.
That said transfer fees are intended as a compensation to avoid unlawfull interference in a contract by third parties. This is balanced against the principle no man should be a slave to a contract.
We've seen this recently with first Everton telling Man U to back off, with then rumours of players being asked to put in a transfer request. However if any undue influence could be shown it would still be interference, to solicit, procure or counsel an unlawful act is in itself unlawful!
The whole of football really is a castle built on the sand of transfer fees. {Ed001's Note - actually the EU have already ruled that football is a special case and not beholden to the usual laws regarding labour.}

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2013 17:57:41
It still remains a Commission compromise. The ECJ have favoured compensatory schemes as far as transfers are concerned. But windows hint at a restriction on trade, the ECJ is much less favourable on any restrictions.

Agree0 Disagree0

All this talk of transfer windows and moving deadlines from one point to another so teams are not disrupted is in my mind really stupid.
If there is a deadline, no matter when that deadline is, a player sold on that deadline day does still not give the selling team time to buy a replacement regardless of if it is before or after the season starts.
Also European leagues start at different times, if Real Madrid decided they wanted to buy Naismith for 100 mill on their deadline day we would be upset if our deadline had already passed, and vice versa.
Deadlines are deadlines and will always cause the same issues no matter when they come

Can't people see that its obvious we need a striker, a really good striker not some one season wonder or some lazy, slow striker. We need a quick, 25 or so goal a season striker urgently. How can people watch Everton and think "I know what we need, a midfielder or defender! or maybe even McCarthy! another Wigan player would be great!" Do people think Kone and co will bring the goals and make a difference? If you think yes then, why aren't Wigan still in the Premier League?

I firmly believe that if we had a really good striker who isn't played up top on his own we could easily challenge Europe. All the build up play is fine and top class, there is just no outlet. No finish. We are toothless.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Can't people see 25 goals-a-season strikers cost big bucks?
We haven't got any, or anywhere near enough to bring in such a player.

Agree0 Disagree0

A striker who'd score 25 goals a season in the Premier League would surely cost more in transfer fee and wages than we could afford and would want to be playing Champions League football.
We can but dream ;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

I totally agree with you mate, I was only saying to the wife yesterday we've needed a quality 20+ goal striker for the last 8 years, what about 'demba ba'?
Zacki {Ed025's Note - i think he is lazy zacki, and we already have a couple of them.. :)

Agree0 Disagree0

I wish we had the money for a quick 25 goal a season striker

Agree0 Disagree0

I guess it comes back to the heart of the matter then ed, if we can't afford a 20+ goal a season striker, then we need to hurry up & sell the club so we can, as other mediocre clubs around us (ie - Swansea) are able too with the likes of Wilfred bony etc. Which means we are going to get left behind. Hurry up bill & find that wealthy buyer & quick!

Agree0 Disagree0

Look, the world is full of footballers, in all of these footballers there is always a player or maybe even 20 players with the potential to deliver 25 goals a season, you just have to look hard enough.
There are so many contract clauses and all of that s**** these days i'm sure out there there are many players you can buy that will deliver 25 odd goals.
Look at Michu he scored loads, and cost hardly anything

Agree0 Disagree0

Michu and Benteke and the like are exceptions rather than the norm, you usually get what you pay for.

Agree0 Disagree0

2 exceptions in one season? surely there is more where they came from

Players I think would improve us:

Moses
Marrone
Barry
Defoe
Alderwield.

Obviously i'm not expecting all of them to come, butits good to see us linked with these players.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's not just finding the transfer fees given our limited finances, but also the limits placed on our wage bill by the new rules about Financial Fair Play, etc., that restrict our squad rebuilding. Even if we had the money to pay for these extra players, we'd be in danger of exceeding the permitted annual increase in our wage bill and risk a penalty such as a points deduction or disqualification from European competition.

If you look at what Tim Howard has been saying on tv transfer pages, it makes you think. He quotes that both Felli and Baines have not had their heads turned like some other players at other clubs. ie the ones who don't turn up for training or refuse to play again for the club. Apparently neither Baines nor Felli have caused one little bit of trouble nor are they pushing for a transfer. Until the business side of things are sorted (I guess he means a decent and realistic offer from Mr Moyes) then nothing will happen.
Hats off to the two of them. They could have acted like Suarez or Odemwingie.
Degsypulford

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Wait for the cynics to say it's all a coordinated PR campaign by the club and the interviewed players are being used as stooges. Actually, I believe that Howard and the others are being genuine and sincere and that their statements reflect the team spirit and honesty in the squad.

Would be good if Fellaini went to spurs for £18m + Holtby.

Add the £18m to the rumoured £5m that we have = £23

Sell Johnny for £3m + £23m = £26m

Buy Moses £8m, Marrone £7m, Aldeweireld £5m, Defoe £6m

Wouldn't that be nice, blues?

sc

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not that simple mate. And Holtby is quite light weight, I don't want him. Yes he is a good player, but we have Osman, Barkley and Fellaini who can play in the attacking midfield role. We need a player more like barry.

Agree0 Disagree0

The transfer fees maths might add up, but we'd still have to accommodate the extra wages without breaking the new Financial Fair Play, etc., rules about year-on-year increases in the total wage bill being within certain limits.

Eds what are your thoughts on us still signing a marque signing? Instead of us going for Moses why not aim a little higher say we have approx £10m to spend sell fellaini £23m. £3m sissoko and £30m for Torres just a thought. Or maybe the sun is getting to my head as I am sitting by the pool in gran canaria. I didn't go the game but have seen the highlights here it looked as if we had the chances to get 3pts and think people are getting carried away we all new it was going to take time. Just look at spurs they have 6pts with 2pens it's small margins and if we had a striker who can make the difference maybe we would get the 3pts. Maybe jelavic is the man once he gets going. {Ed025's Note - jelavic is running out of time for me robbie, i expect kone to start against stevenage, and if he performs, i can see him being the go to guy against cardiff..

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That a typo Robbie? £3m for Torres maybe?

Agree0 Disagree0

In the formation we seem to be playing - a number-9 in front of a fluid three-man attacking midfield with two holding midfielders behind them - the lone striker has to work his socks off all along the front line (left, right and centre) as well as scoring goals. There's no doubt that Jelavic works hard, but his scoring edge now appears to be irreparably blunted. Anichebe is big and strong, but he also just can't get the goals. Vellios is still too raw. Kone might settle in, but he's done nothing to write home about so far. Unless the midfield start putting away chances (and we are creating plenty) and unless we tighten up defensively (which doesn't look likely given our more open style of play), then the lack of a regular goal-scorer up front will be telling.

Not including Stevenage. The important games for us as a club, Cardiff Away, Chelsea Home, West Ham Away, If we play like we did on Saturday, we won't get anything out of these games, maybe a draw or two, will we have to wait until the last day of September for our first win in the league against Newcastle?, who are in turmoil. After 5 games the league starts to take shape, we could be looking at a 6 pointer on the 6th game. {Ed025's Note - you really are a negative so and so biffy, although saturday was not great, it was hardly a disaster, factor in the disruption we have had this week (thanks for that moyes) we are still playing decent stuff, and with a bit more luck could be sitting on 6 points..

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ed, that is the way the league is, every club has to put up with disruption in the transfer market, Spurs have had more to cope with than us, they have got on with it, I mention spurs as I seen us on level term with them. However I don't think we played well on Saturday, 8 shots on goal, 4 basically back passes. We created very little that's the bottom line, apart from barkley and coleman we were devoid of movement and thought, that's what it looked like from the TB anyhow.

What I don't understand is why the Club have not yet shown any real willingness in the Transfer Market at the moment to actually sign someone of note! It would show some real intent, instead of just media rumours, to Fellaini & Baines, that Everton are capable of mounting a serious challenge to the so called "Top Four". We could be on the verge of losing our 2 top players and then find it almost impossible to replace them in time after the window shuts. and then can't seek replacements of that calibre until January, by which time we could have lost quite a few games and actually be in trouble. We are already even at this early stage playing catch up as we are 4 points behind the leaders, and after watching Cardiff today we will have to play a lot better than we did yesterday and use different tactics. With or without new investment etc, BK needs to fund some fairly big, experienced and talented signings and then hopefully a Billionaire might just show some intrest in actually wanting to buy the Club, speculate to accumulate. Martinez needs to remember that he is buying players to play for Everton now . not Wigan! We need to replace Osman, Jelavic possibly Gibson due to his injury record and also add 2 or 3 more to the squad. before we fall too far behind the rest and end up having a mediocre season.

It's because we don't have any money. I've heard we've restructured the club debt recently to meet current liabilities, in other words it's increased to pay the wage bill!
As a business day to day we are struggling. The home draw in the league cup couldn't have come at a better time in terms of cashflow. We operate such a tight margin, unexpected events are a problem.
My worry is we might get a surprise departure before transfer deadline other than MF or LB, I hope the restructure covers us and enough to bring a player in the squad needs it. This has been our operational plan for most of BK's tenure, it's not changing overnight, unless Carlos Slim can be persuaded he needs a football club.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would not be just looking at MF and LB
i thought the whole team performance was below par.
