Today as I was watching the game, I thought by the way we were playing that this kind of games are the ones that usually happen when a club faces three competitions (league, cup and europa league usually). I thought we were fine, not at all at our best, but we weren't that bad so I'm not having a go at our players for today's match. They and the staff have made us dream from start to end that we could finish top four. Mathematiclly is still possible, so nothing to be disappionted today, not our day, not our best performance, that just happens.

But what I was thinking during the game, it was Europe next season. Europa League is much difficult to combine with the league then CL, but anyway, as we will have europe next season, we REALLY need to sign players with decent quality that help the club in the league and in europe. We could really get in trouble if we don't add enough to our squad next season.
We need to rotate more the squad next season, have more fresh legs all over the park, and by that we need to sign. One or two big names that change games and maybe 4-5 that add to the squad (no crap players or any sort of low players).

I've got the feeling we will add correctly and hopefully enough to have strong competiton for all three tournaments.

Nothing but the best is good enough

Believable0 Unbelievable0

This has been my worry for ages now. IF we lose Barry, Lukaku and Deulefau that's 3 players we have to replace just to get the squad back to this strength we're at now, new signings more wages etc. I just hope to god there really is money there for new signings and I don't mean 10 million or losing a big player for mega money (do we have one left other than barkeley) and buying a semi marquee signing with the money. If we don't strengthen properly well struggle like Swansea and Newcastle did. Big lesson to be learnt from those 2 teams. Any word on Barry by the way Ed? Contract wise I mean obviously.

{Ed025's Note - not yet paddock, but his future will be decided very soon mate..

Thanks Ed

Well, I hope today was enough proof to all us evertonians that Bony is the man for us next season, today's performance by Lukaku was nothing short of pathetic - the guys not even worth 12 million let alone the 25 million being quoted. he has once again lost interest as he did after a promising first few games at the start of the season, & take it from me now we are not going to qualify for the champions league Lukakus performances for the final 2 games will be no better! Alcaraz is also trash, we need to get rid & replace him with someone much quicker & more able!
Overall though, been a very good first season for Roberto! :-)

Totally agree Zack. 1 good game every 5 simply isn't good enough, Bony is the man but will cost 20 million unless they go down

Agree0 Disagree0

What makes you think that about Bony? He could easily be a one season wonder, until he proves it next season he's no better than Lukaku for me. At least Lukaku has proved he can do it more than one season.

We all know CL is gone, just waiting for Ars to bag three points against Newc and we can all look at the table and stop arguing that it is still on.

A very disappointing end to the season but hey, it's a 'transitional season' in which we've probably finished 5th, I'm happy with that like a Pig is happy with mud.

RM will sort it all out I'm the summer. Have faith and let's focus on our final home game of the season and hopefully 3 points to cement 5th.

COYB.

Agree0 Disagree0

Realistically you're right Keith, but it was nice looking enviously at 4th spot especially after that 3-0 home result against Arsenal. Unfortunately dips versus Palace and Southampton have now left us looking at 5th at best for this season. But even that is not guaranteed with Spurs just 3 points behind. We need to beat City at Goodison next Saturday even with a patched up squad.

Ok let's look on the bright side, we now now Luk isn't worth 15mil. Naismith nice guy but not the striker we need. Oozy and Barry to old no pace. Stones immense what a future this boy has. So just need two forwards and two midfielders and where there.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Naismith has been one of our better players recently.dont mind him starting but he is a great impact player from the bench.full of guts and determination and as bobbys says, he has a great footballing brain.

Agree0 Disagree0

Naismith showed heart and skill, our no 10 nightmare. Someone tell him he is now playing against grown ups.

Apart frome the half chances, what service exactly does Lukaku get to be criticized? How many clear cut chances does he miss? The team don't create enough for him, simple.

Agree0 Disagree0

His control of the ball is awful for. There is a reason Maurinio doesn't want him and it showed today.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Apr 2014 08:54:50
Also how many headers did Lukaku actually win, I seen one, lazy, first touch awfuland doesn't look interested. He already knows where he is playing next season and is also thinking of the world cup

Wherever we end up when the final whistle blows against Hull, I'm not going to be disappointed. This season has been a brilliant ride and I'm sure there will be more twists and turns going on with the teams around us. Martinez and this squad have got us fans believing again. There is a buzz around the place again. Knowing we go into every game to put in a shift and to win at all costs has been very refreshing as it's been missing over the last couple of years. It's up to the board to provide Martinez with the backing to go and add the pieces to the squad that will push the current squad further. The giant that is Everton fc is beginning to stir again and for that I thank Martinez and this current group of players

Great post mate, totally correct as well

Spot on Revo, we would have all took 5/6th at the beginning of the season mate, most matches we are great to watch and we are being talked about on all radio/tv stations for our exciting style of play. Bobby is simply amazing, from his knowledge of the game to his constant positivity. Dave broken leg Whelan certainly was not lying when he said he is destined for the top, and he is ours.

Add all this with a possible new stadium announcement soon and things look great ahead, I know it is hurting us all not getting 4th (probably) but what a great season with our highest points tally ever in the Prem, we wouldn't have this many points with you know who

A very happy but slightly upset Blue

FFS, its not over until the fat lady sings. If Arsenal draw or lose its all back on again, because we have a better goal difference. I sure hope the team don't take the same attitude as these fans, saying its all over before a ball is kicked at the Emirates. Stranger things have happened look at Sunderland V City and Chelsea, who would have predicted them results?.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

"It's not over because we have a better goal difference".

We are both on the same goal difference, +21

Agree0 Disagree0

No it's not over Howie, it never is until it's mathematically impossible to catch them but I think what most are trying to say is that it looks very unlikely now but they are still positive and don't want the team to drop their heads because even after today we're all still proud of what they've done.nobody expects us to give up people just want the lads to know we're still behind them and are not disappointed in their efforts. That's different to throwing the towel in mate

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - thats right paddo mate..

26 Apr 2014 17:09:04
It is a tribute to our season that people are coming on and being positive even after a dismal performance like today's. McGeady looked quite positive when he came on.certainly far better than Deulofeu who was quite abysmal. I think Deulofeu needs some coaching as to when to try and take a defender on and when to make a pass to a team mate. His choice is often wrong. RM has commented on this in the past. Lukaku had one of his poor games and we really missed Mirallas. Well we need one win from our last to games in my opinion to secure Europa League.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We need one point for europa mate. 6th gets it this year with city winning carling cup place goes to league. United 12 points behind with 12 to play for. They have to win all theirs and us lose both, one pont or united drop a point and we're in. 3 to take 5th as tottenham good is woeful

Agree0 Disagree0

Man U need to win all there games and even then we just need a point.

Poor performance today, no excuses, we were just not good enough. Hope this season is not going to fizzle out were a great team, let's bounce back against City.

usually i'm annoyed, but no, I said a while ago our seasin was over and I was proved wrong, we were in the hunt for fourth with three games to go, we are out of it but who would of said we would of been there at the start? anyone? exactly, we have still had a fantastic season, we wernt at it today, so what, european football is on its way back to goodison, today luke garbutt made his debut and we saw 16 year old ryan ledson make the bench, martinez has faith and we have a bunch of great lads coming through, at the end of the day, we lost, doesn't matter, the future is still bright, we have had a great season and we are still everton at the end of the day win or lose, we love our club and that will never change, onwards now

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Apr 2014 16:02:55
disappointed but that's football, we looked tired today and had no luck at all, just need to secure Europe for next season most fans would have taken europa league at start of season and it also offers c/l for the winners so we will have another possible route. overall, in a transition season we have got to be happy, if rm gets his top targets then nxt season is gona be very intresting.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Apr 2014 15:28:06
Ok, so we have most certainly missed out on 4th now but we need to be realistic here and not too down on ourselves. 4th was always a massive ask for many reasons no less the run in we had to Arsenal, the size of our squad to theirs (for quality) and the fact they got major game players back while we lost ours. Today losing Distin and Mirallas was IMO the difference, we played with a centre half pairing that had never played competitively and it showed but that's football my friends it is just the nature of the beast. Look at out injured players. Jagielka, distin, Oviedo, Mirallas, Pienaar, Gibson and Kone. All 7 of those are or would of been important first team players throughout the season in an already small squad so to be harsh on the lads today would again IMO be wrong of us. If someone would of said at the start of the season we would be seriously challenging for 4th with 3 games to go we probably would of laughed them off the board, if someone had offered us 5th at the stArt most level headed blues would of bitten their hands off! new manager, new coaching staff and complete new (better more exciting style of play. Add together Iall these factors and what we have achieved this season is nothing short of fantastic and I as a season ticket holder for 30 plus years haven't been prouder than a side since the 80s. We need to regroup now, we need 3 points to be safe of Tottenham (vastly superior goal difference) and 1 to be safe of United or either of those teams to lose a game and fifth is ours and that's what we should be concentrating on and if and I think we probably will we get it t hen we should all be mighty mighty proud of what the team have achieved this season and not be down because we missed out on a champions league spot. Yes it's disappointing nobody is more disappointed than I am especially for my 7 year old who hasn't shut up about it for weeks and weeks now but let's get this seasons closed out and hold our heads high, regroup and have a good summer window and go again next seasons this side with the right additions is going places people and with our support and level headed optimism, we will achieve it. COYBB!!

We have done great this season i'm proud of the club but I think to really really push for cl we need to invest 45/50 million to push us in to that sort of place our bench is not strong enough an we need a few moor starters

Good afternoon Ed025,

Isn't the weather nice today?
And have you seen the latest fashion trends, absolutely shocking.

Have you heard about the budget airlines wanting to charge £1 to use the toilets on their flights? Scandalous.

And what about the price of butter? Appalling.

did you know the latest digital camera's are 18 megapixel? Amazing.

Did you know Mount Everest is nearly 30,000 feet above sea-level? Amazing.

Anyway, I have to go now Ed025 because I can't think of anything else to talk about.

Can you? (smiles)

wernt at the races today, we looked tired

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Apr 2014 14:45:05
Never recovered today from the first goal. Champions league is going to have to wait till next season.
Howard-7 couldn't help either goal didn't have much else to do
Coleman-6 good going forward not so good defensively
Stones-6 same as Coleman
Alcaraz-4 Not mobile enough against quick young teams
Baines-5 poor from him today
Mcarthy-7 showed some fight and never gave up
Barry-5 slow and looked tired today needs a rest
Delefeou-1 terrible today beat his man once
Barkley-3 anonymous him and Naismith don't seem to be able to play in the same team
Naismith-7 best player today especially in the first half
Lukaku-5 flashes of ability didn't do much

Osman-6 did a decent job looked lively
Mcgeady-6 put in a couple of good balls should have started

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I wouldn't rate any player today above five it was a lack luster performance from the whole team they all looked really worn out

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Apr 2014 14:41:00
That's it then. Looks like we're playing teams from Bratislava funded by tractor manufacturers next season rather than teams from Italy funded by sports cars manufacturers. The dream was nice while it lasted though. Still very pleased with what we've done this season though.

Saints have been the better team today an should be 4 nill up but the ref has an linesman have had a shocking second half

It's hard been an Evertonian sometimes but would not change it for the world no matter what happens second half it's been a great season and can't wait for next season Coyb in Roberto we trust.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Apr 2014 13:41:24
I keep on about deulofeu. The hype on this kid is too much. First half he must have received the ball 20 times and given it away 19 times. Dreadful. When he switched to the right hand side he put in his only decent ball. then immediately switches back to the left? His confidence is shot and he needs to come off and get Osman on. We look very poor and I can't see a champions league place now. Even Europa looks difficult now.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He was awful today I would bet my house on it that if he stays next season everyone will be shocked just how good this kid is he will be a totally different player next season

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Apr 2014 16:08:02
i hope he is, because this season he has not been all that, he is young I know but he has to learn it is a team game, he is trying to show the world how good he is but in most games it is not working, he just loses the ball due to constantly trying to take people on. lift your head up son, it makes all the difference.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Apr 2014 13:36:13
2 0 down at the break, shocking defending, huge gaps in midfield and no threat up top (also why is del boy on the left, needs to be right or we have no threat) think its Europa next season boys

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Apr 2014 11:26:34
Got a feeling McCarthy and stones will score there first goals today Coyb

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - you need to visit the bookies then lew..they will give you the keys to the shop if that comes in mate.. :)

26 Apr 2014 13:19:07
nope it was alcaraz and coleman who score their first goals today!

Close Lew. If you said alcaraz and coleman it would of been a big pay out in the bookies

Morning Blues,
I am pretty pumped for today (tonight's sydney time) game. Playing first I believe is a real advantage this time of year, as we can apply pressure to Arsenal, and hopefully will allow us to play with the freedom that we have been playing with lately.

My starting 11
Howard
Coleman
Stones
Alcaraz
Baines
Mcgeady
McCarthy
Barry
Osman
Naismith
Lukaku

I don't know what to think of this season if we come fifth it would come down to a big disapointment but obviously be in Europe once again. Come fourth and it's heaven still can't get my head round the Palace performance I think we went on to the field thinking we already had won the game, it was such a let down. Hoping for 3 points against the saints and who knows the barcodes may do us a favour, who expected Sunderland to beat Chelsea?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i know what i think of this season sunny...exellent!, considering we have a new manager, and all the problems that brings, i could not have hoped for more, plus the positivity and style of play we have witnessed really does make me proud to be a blue mate..

I agree Ed the football has been a joy to watch, a few good additions to the squad in the summer would be fantastic. Think Bill will support Roberto as he can see the buzz around the place, I know he has his critics but he's Everton through and through, top man.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - your preaching to the converted there sunny, i have total respect for the guy mate..

What has surprised me is the consistency. Under Moyes, we were a lot more difficult to beat that under Walter Smith. Moyes at the end had us playing some decent stuff too. However, under Roberto, we have moved up another gear and I can only think of the Crystal Palace and Liverpool games where we played poorly. That is 33 games of pretty decent consistency. When you think of the injury list and having to bring in John Stones etc, the man has done a remarkable job.
