Good professional performance today, mirallas was fantastic, as was everybody! Absolutely gutted for Oviedo hope to see him back soon! Tuesday is going to be difficult with the amount of injuries with have! Will be difficult to predict a starting 11 as we don't know if pienaar, Barkley or Coleman will be back but if there not I'll go for this:

Howard
Hibbert jags distin baines
Barry mcarthy
Mgeady Naismith mirallas
Lukaku

What does every one think?

Id play that same team mate, hibbert will keep whoever their left winger is, in his back pocket, think mcgeady will cause cissokho some problems, mirallas can exploit johnsons woeful defending, lukaku will probably do nothing but if he can do anything please put skrtel on his arse, will make me smile, let mccarthy and barry run the midfield against legless gerrard and joe sideways allen, if alcaraz was fit I would play him over distin, he would be very useful against the rat, I fear distin will be made to look a fool again by suarez, hope.not

Even with all our injuries that stil looks like a reasonably strong starting 11 but our bench will be very weak but I can't wait for when we have all of our players back because that team is going to be beast

Agree0 Disagree0

Good selection. Imo.

Agree0 Disagree0

Think Colemans back so swap him for Hibbert otherwise good selection, really pleased for Naismith played well yesterday

On reflection of Bryans' horrific injury, Machiavelli once wrote that :
Nothing great was ever achieved without danger.

Too right Macker!

Can someone post a review of the player's performances today, didn't get to see the game. Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Joel 7 (Made good saves when he had to)
Hibbert 6 (Didn't do much)
Jagielka 7 (Solid again)
Heitinga 7 (Nice to see him on the scoresheet)
Stones 6 ( Looked shakey even against Stevenage)
Baines 7 ( Didn't put a foot wrong)
Barry 7 ( Looked tired but kept the play ticking)
McCarthy 8 ( Controlled the middle and protected the back four putting in good tackles)
Osman 7 ( Didn't look so bad or slow agains a lower league opposition!)
McGeady 7 ( Showed signs of what to come)
Geuye 7 ( Took his goal well)
Mirallas 9 ( Really looks in form, confidence is very High!)
Naismith 8 ( Put in a good shift up front and took his goals we'll!)

Agree0 Disagree0

Would have rated joel lower, thought his kicking was awful

Agree0 Disagree0

Joel was poor and still can't catch

Agree0 Disagree0

Why don't you go kick a ball in a goal mouth full of mud!

Good win today but I'm absolutely gutted. I feel so sad for Oviado. For the first time I can remember watching Everton I have more empathy with the player than I have with the club. All players will suffer an injury at some point but this is depressing.

Brian Oviado is a top footballer, I won't go over the top and say he's world class, but a top, top footballer. None of us knew how good he really was because he was never given the opportunity until a couple of months ago (Hats off to Leighton). But let's be honest, if he was transferred before the start of the season none of us would have been that concerned, Moyes obviously only ever saw him as a left back and therefore never appreciated how good he was attacking down the wing. He had to sit it out on the bench and wait for his chance. (Hat's off to Martinez for recognizing his true potential), but he's come in, done everything that was asked of him, and become a crowd favorite.
As far as I'm aware, he's sat on the bench for the last couple of year's like a true professional, knowing he was a top player and never complained, never complained that he need game time etc. He just waited for his opportunity and took it. A true professional.

Like most of us, I never followed Costa Rica's progress to the world cup finals, but apparently he was inspirational in their qualification. I'm gutted for the lad that he's now going to miss representing his country in Brazil.

Like I said, good win but marred by Oviado's injury. We all wish him well and look forward to seeing him in a blue shirt again next season.

three points from today's match

1. and obviously most important. good luck bryan. terrible news & all the best for a speedy recovery

2.why was superkev not taken off earlier. could not afford for him to get injured, especially after bryan oviedo's injury

3. john stones - am i the only everton supporter that does not rate him, yes i know he's only young etc, etc. but saw quite a bit of him at barnsley and always thought he looked c**p, you i don't so any improvement. really shocked when we signed him & really wish we hadn't

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Mate you need your head testing lid, he is a Rolls Royce!

Agree0 Disagree0

You probably are the only Evertonian who thinks this. Couldn't disagree more with what you said at the end. I actually don't believe you have watched him such is my shock at what you've said.

Nice sentiments mate, much appreciated. I'm also gutted for the lad just as he was coming into the first team and now obviously out of the World Cup as well.
Once again your comments have been well received and respected.

Arsenal fan but can I just add my best wishes to him too. Truly hope he gets back to his best.

God bless him, feel sick for the lad and lost all enthusiasm for the game after that. I wish him the very best and pray he can make it back for the World Cup, though unlikely. Get well soon Bryan, we're all behind you lad.

25 Jan 2014 17:59:29
That is a real bad one there lads. It reminds me of Valencia's injury. I hope his recovery is just as swift and I hope it doesn't affect him long-term. He was just starting to show what he could do too. Pitch is shocking, if I was RM, I would get Baines and Mirallas off asap.

hope the team give him something to come back to.fa cup winners medal and CL football next year. chin up and get well soon Bryan

Agree0 Disagree0

Quite agree. Let' now go on and win this trophy and provide Bryan Oviedo with a winner's medal. I've heard that in 1966 we won the cup without conceding a goal on the way to Wembley and England won the World Cup. just a coincidence or maybe an omen for the efforts this year?
Still gutted for the lad tonight on an atrocious pitch.

Good to see naisy score. Always puzzled me why he got played on wings when he is a striker by trade.making good runs and causing problems.should be given a decent chance in his proper position

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good performance from Gary tonight who was unlucky not to score his hat trick. I feel we might need him on Tuesday at Anfield on fire if we're going to take something from the derby

Think its time the reds changed there name to Liverpull fc.all they do is grab shirts in the box.kelly on a Bournemouth player was a sure fire penalty. Commentators picked up on skrtle doing it all season and now defence and midfielders doing it at every opportunity.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree denti. The only surprise is that it wasn't Skrtel, but hey it's not surprising that this is not one endemic through their squad. The ref's got to be strong and alert on Tuesday night.

There's a great 2 page interview with Roberto in today's Daily Mail, guys. It's well worth a read. The guy continues to impress me more every time I read or see an interview with him.
On a different subject, I don't know if it's a hangover from the Moyes' years but I've a few butterflies about today's tie! Come on, lads - Prove me wrong!

The best news we can hope for is Barkley, Delufeo, return from injury we were flying when they were fit and also Baines signs a new contract if that's all that happens between now and the window closing I will be a happy blue. Please I hope we can book our place in the 5.round later without anymore injuries god that would be a nightmare if we lose anybody else especially with the Darkside game just around the corner I will be biting my nails all through this game later.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree Stef, although at least if we were to get any more knocks we still have a week to react with the windowstill open.

Agree0 Disagree0

That's true toffee, but we can't afford to lose Tuesday as fourth spot will slip further away.

25 Jan 2014 10:17:43
This a potential banana skin down at Stevenage in the cup. Apparently the playing surface is a bit dodgy after a lot of rain. The team selection should be interesting with half an eye already looking at Anfield next Tuesday night.
I trust Roberto will pick a side with enough to win, which will obviously mean resting some. But I do hope that there will be some big guns on the bench ready to come on should we need them. Remember guys with the TV cameras pulling this one, the country is waiting for an upset. Let's show the country we are taking the Cup seriously because after the WBA game we need a massive lift tonight in preparation for the RS next week. COYB.

If united bring mata in who plays more or less the same position as Rooney or kagawa, then one of them will want to leave especially if Man United don't make the cl. I we can tie up a few small deals now, we could possibly emphasis on the possibly, have a chance at one of them. Wishful but if they play their cards right it shouldn't be impossible.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Jan 2014 01:32:17
Ffs, no! Kagawa will go back to dortmund and rooney can go wherever he wants, why do business with them? Really why?, we have no chance of neither, wishful? HA, you do realise mata will not.go straight in the team ahead of rooney don't you? Robin van persie is injured so no we won't 'play our cards right', its impossible, like when people were going we are getting isco and mata, why on earth would that happen? Jesus christ, we cannot attract players like that, simples

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jan 2014 09:49:41
Its dead easy to answer this one

Kagawa has a few years left on a 120k a week contract so forget it

Rooney is about to be offered 300k a week, Need I say more

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jan 2014 13:13:38
Mata is going to be utd new scholes, gutted it's only taken them half a season to replace him

Agree0 Disagree0

Swan you seem to have a few anger issues calm down ffs the guy was just expressing an opinion

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jan 2014 16:38:41
Anger issues? For a few '!' and capital letters? Jesus don't be so judgemental, I just don't see why people put things like us signing top players, people saying we should get top players like mata, isco, rooney etc, it is impossible, its not fifa, we cannot attract players like that its as simple as that, one day a top player like reus or gotze will put in a transfer request and someone on here will say we should go for them, with all the brain power in the world, think for a second, it is IMPOSSIBLE, we cannot afford them, their wages and we are not in the champions league, do people not realise this?

Agree0 Disagree0

But Mike have faith. Don't slag off fellow Evertonians who have an opinion. 4th place is going to be to tough but it's not impossible. A win on Tuesday night sends out a message not to just the RS but also Man U and and the Spuds
