Why haven't we spent any of the so called 100 million we was ment to have before the stones money came in because up to now that's all the money that it looks like we are spending?

Believable1 Unbelievable2

25 Aug 2016 23:08:40
Good point - I was only thinking the same last night. we haven't spent a penny of that £100 million yet.

25 Aug 2016 23:54:00
Maybe the players we want are not available and they refuse to buy for the sake of it. let's be honest the squad is already stronger. Yes we still need a few more faces but spending 10mil or 100mil makes no difference really as long as its the right signing.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2016 10:33:57
What difference does it matter how much we spend?

As long as we get the right players it doesn't matter if they cost 10p or 50mil.

We've signed 4 quality players. Not potential or squad players but 1st team regular players. I can't remember the last time we done that.

We will no doubt sign a few more but I would rather we sign no more if they were not going to improve us.

To the people who are now saying ooh let's get behind Stekelenburg now since we aren't interested in the man city reject. Shame on you and in my eyes suck. I said from day dot he should be our number one. So fickle.

Believable1 Unbelievable8

25 Aug 2016 21:15:06
How can you disagree. Oooh he's England number. England are shite and clearly says a lot for our goal keepers.

hold on a minute, i stated that Koeman had confirmed he didn't want Hart, and to get behind Stekelenberg, i for 1 never wanted Hart, and have always said that Stekelenberg can do a good job for us, so your statement is rubbish, stop talking like a silly fool.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2016 23:25:06
Hardly the silly fool. Shouldnt we be behind Stekelenburg already. Oh sorry he only cost a couple of million. You want to spend 30 mill plus, just because we have a wealthy backer. Sorry imp my bad.

Agree0 Disagree1

26 Aug 2016 00:04:10
Mowfee, no one really wants hart if your read most posts. a majority want a new keeper, yes that's a no brainer, but hart has only rubbed the rhubarbs of a couple of posters on here. i, like a majority on here are for giving stenks a go between the stick as he hasn't done a thing wrong, but we are only 2 premier game into the season. just chill your grapes until the window has closed. dont, then if there's no improvement, then have a go. but until then. chill my friend.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2016 00:06:19
i never once mentioned the cost, as i already said, i was more than happy to sign Stekelenberg, any player who plays in our shirt gets my support, i will support sny players our manager brings in, regardless of cost, i think most fans were expecting a few big signings, with the allged promise of big money to spend, but if Koeman doesn't want that, then that's fine by us, he knows what he is doing.

I hear he was left out of the squad to convince him to move on. He's rumoured to only want to play for champions league club. Club want 40plus so its probably a small list of suiters. i'd be amazed if we where close but I like lances positivity. A game changer.

So every player we put a bid in for we get gazumped, is there a chance we may still get this big signing, striker, midfielder, defender or maybe a top tealady, rumours are great, reality is 4 days tiĺl deadlinem. Dare i dream COYB.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Aug 2016 20:18:56
Impossible.

Gazumped only applies to housing.

If you mean another team has come in and offered more money than we have I can name at least 5 where that has not happened. Parez and the four we have signed, your turn to name 5 we have been "gazumped" on.

Nothing to do with being slow Tbone the sad fact is in a straight choice between a team that qualifies for champions league year after year almost guaranteeing top football and one that has just finished 11th for the past 2 years and only us Everton fans would choose Everton.
To be honest I don't think missing out on Perez is a bad thing he is just a average player who had 1 good season last year, it smacks of a desperate buy to me and Boney would be a better buy but time will tell.

Delighted to hear Koeman declare he has no interest in Joe Calamatious Hart. Where will go now Joe?

Believable4 Unbelievable0

25 Aug 2016 15:16:10
I quite like Hart, also he will most likely not be going to a CL side as by playing him last night means he's now cup tied.
So who exactly will pay what they want for him who aren't in Europes elite I don't know. I think he is stuck or Liverpool bound at best.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2016 17:10:20
Liverpool have already bought a keeper and UEFA confirmed last night that Hart will not be cup tied and would be free to play for any other side in the champions league.

Problem City have is the fee, either a loan or buy, and his wages are £130,000 pw. So not many teams can afford him really!

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2016 17:40:34
who really cares, he is not wanted by us so why bother about him.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2016 22:36:05
I'm not fussed on him but if we signed him it wouldn't be the worst thing.

He needs to calm down before and during a match plus there are some performance issues but he isn't the worst keeper in the world.

Stek is good and he has decent presence in that defensive unit but I have no idea if he is consistent long term.

Let's see what happens though as I think he looked pretty genuine when he said we were not interested in him.

In his position he wasn't getting into our team. The club have done the best for the player.

25 Aug 2016 14:23:03
A lot of players holding out for champions league clubs may find themselves joining clubs not in the champions league because they tend to do their business early and therefore have to move to other clubs on deadline day.

This is one of the reasons why so much last minute business is done on deadline day. I just hope we find a gem or two.

I love the fact that managers tell media they don't understand why everyone is obsessed with transfer deadline day (Klopp quote) . Well I think it's the clubs faults every single club leave things to last 24/ 48 hours there the ones that turn it into a circus there will be more deals done between Sunday and Wednesday than there has all window, sort the rules out where the last day of window is before 1st game of the season because of current rules for me the season does not feel started yet, it's wrong players playing for one club the first game and by the time the 4th game comes round he switches to another club.

25 Aug 2016 13:06:42
It's pretty clear that RK prefers the partnership off Gueye and Barry in centre-midfield.
Assuming that Barkley is more of an attacking midfielder (a number 10) , that would leave the likes of Besic, Cleverley, Gibson and McCarthy - alongside youngsters like Davies, etc. - as cover for centre-midfield.
Besic has a long-term injury, Gibson's fitness record is none too good, while McCarthy and Cleverley have been tried at right-back.
Barry will, have to be rested during the season, so are any of the others (injuries/ fitness notwithstanding) genuine contenders for a spot in an RK Everton side?
Would Davies (who's also been tried at right-back) or other youngsters be ready to cover for Barry or Gueye?
Or do we need to replace Cleverley, Gibson and McCarthy with other experienced centre-midfielders?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Aug 2016 13:17:13
replace all 3 Sid, never been a fan of Cleverley as crap, Gibson is due an injury so best just get rid whilst he is fit, that's if he isn't injured again already and McCarthy looked good first season only.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Aug 2016 14:26:14
Keep cleverley but get rid of gibson and mccarthy. We carry no goal threat from centre mid and sometimes lack a little creativity. Plus gibson is a sicknote and spends more time injured than available.
Clev I would keep, till january at least, as he can cover multiple roles.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2016 15:16:18
Keep Mcarthy, replace Gibson and Cleverly.

Agree1 Disagree1

25 Aug 2016 15:42:47
Personally, I'd give all three another chance. Gibson, obvious been injured. Would love to see him regain match fitness and show what he can do. McCarthy I think is being used as a bit of a scapegoat for last season. Yes Barry still played well but I think too many point the finger at McCarthy as he is easy target. Cleverly I never understood why he got so much stick. Actually, why do supporters take their own sh*t out on players so much? Anyway, Cleverly is a good squad player who can fill in a number of different positions.

Depending how things go from now until Jan or June I'd review whether to keep them or not then. This is all on the condition that no one else is available within the remainder of the transfer window obviously.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2016 18:30:46
have we not been forced to play Mccarthy on the right in the first games.

once coleman is back I feel Mccarthy will get his place in the middle back

I actually questioned what the f RK was thinking starting McCarthy on the right with a few mates . and why only start 3 attacking players in Barkley, Deulofeu and Mirallas, so not enough fire power to start any game in our league.

Agree0 Disagree1

25 Aug 2016 19:02:31
Efcfanatic has it exactly right. What I have beensaying for ages. No goal threat from our center midfield. Any successful team NEEDS a goal threat from center midfield. The new lad Gueye seems to offer that. Now all we need is 2 more and another to cover injuries.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i would say that ross offers a goal treat degsy, admittedly he was below par at times last season but that may have been down to martinez, but i would like a mahrez type i must admit..

25 Aug 2016 20:36:00
Times change Degsy. Its not like the old 4-4-2. If you had Barkley, Del boy, Mirallas and Rom in the team would that not be more than enough attacking players? That's more or less what it was the last couple of years. 4 along with wing/ full backs chipping in is more than enough imho.

We need 4 cm players imo. Who are not attacking minded. At least 4.

Barry will need to be rested sooner or later. Might be Koemans's plan all along for McCarthy to slot into Barry's position whenever Coleman comes back. I think whatever way you look at it McCarthy is at worst our third choice for the 2 positions.

He may even be second or first for all we know! No one knows for sure only Koeman.

Everton must be a tough sell to European players at the present, as we can't offer Champions League (let alone Europa League) football, we've been midttable for a couple of seasons, we haven't been serious domestic contenders for ages, we don't have as big or glamorous a name as some other clubs, and we can't offer a player and his family the chance to live in the bright lights of London.
We do have a major shareholder who's ambitious for success, we have a manager with a clear plan, we have a DoF with a n excellent recruitment track record, we have the encouraging possibility of a superb new waterfront stadium, and we have a loyal and supportive core fanbase.
We need to get success on the field to attract better players and their recruitment will surely take several transfer windows. Alongside that, we want our promising youngsters to develop and reach their potential.
Off the field, we need to improve the club's finances and - most importantly - get the new stadium done. That too will take time, but we appear to have the right people running the show now, so it's onwards and upwards.
:-)

25 Aug 2016 13:10:53
dazza with due respect it was always going to be hard to buy early because RK needed to assess the squad first and he couldn't do this without watching players in the pre-season friendlies. Obviously as Sid2 points out the inability to offer Champions League or Europa is a disadvantage. However the business done so far has been impressive IMO with good buys so far and the right decisions being made on those layers not good enough. Keeping Lukaku is a major bonus also audit is certain Ross will sign a new contract also after delaying when brown shoes was manager. The rebuilding of the team and club is going to take longer than 2 months and more likely 2 years. I'm much happier with the state of things under RK than I have been over the last 5-8 years.
Wellzee.

I think some of these guys aspiring to play in the CL will get a reality check hopefully before it's too late i. e. not all CL clubs are in dire need to sign people for positions they are adequately covered for etc.
We as a club are now in the ascendancy and playing in the PL with a univerally respected coach. So we offer a genuinely attractive package in terms of 'footballing showcase platform' the world watches our top flight and relishes every moment of every match. An eyecatching piece of skill, technique or simple effort on our pitches really gets noticed .

Not all CL clubs are top drawer, players will be few and far between moving to Europe's elite few, if arsenal are competing with us for a player who I would hardly say is world class, is it us that aspiring higher or arsenal looking lower?
It will sort itself out over the next week, and should be very interesting!

Further to an earlier thread with Ed002 regarding loan regulations, I've just read an interview with David Unswortth where he talks about the new regulations this season.

Everton coach David Unsworth has criticised the new loan system.
FIFA have scrapped the use of emergency loans in the Football League.
And teams will now only be allowed to do loan deals inside the two transfer windows each season and players cannot be recalled to parent clubs.
Blues under-23 boss Unsworth is not in favour of the new rules.
"I have to say the change in the loan rules are not benefiting anybody - lower league clubs, us, the players themselves, " Unsworth said.
"I don't feel there is anybody benefiting from that.
"I don't agree with it. "
Everton have so far loaned out Luke Garbutt, Russell Griffiths, Brendan Galloway and Conor Grant.
But Unsworth says Everton have to be extra careful when weighing up loan offers.
"I just think when there are no games or when you need a player to go and play in the first-team and you have the opportunity to do that over a period of four weeks - which is a youth loan - then it gives a better scope for everybody, " he added.
"It is better for League One and League Two teams, it is better for us, and I think it is better for the players themselves because they know there is that possibility.
"Now, we have to be so careful just in case there is an injury crisis in the first-team, you might make a decision on a player for that and I just don't see who is benefiting from the new rule changes. "
Unsworth, however, has been encouraged by the changes made to the Premier League under-21 set-up.
The age limit has been lifted to under-23 with over-age players still, permitted.
Everton have made a perfect start to lifein the rebranded Premier League 2, defeating Spurs and Derby County.
"I think it is changing for the better, " Unsworth added.
"The increase in age, the actual squad we've got available to us is a good squad, and you only have to impress one man - and that's the manager.
"They have to do that by producing performances and in the week during training if the manager needs them.
"People forget, these lads are Everton players, nobody else's, and we've got to do what's best to give these players the best opportunity first, people forget that. ".

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Unsworth failed to mention that the FA have agreed separately about the loans to lower-tier clubs as I explained yesterday.}

25 Aug 2016 06:19:35
Middlesbrough, Bournemouth, and Palace before we play Man City. If we can get 11 points or more that would put us in a great position to challenge for European football. I might be foolish, but I really think we are going to finish 4th this season.
I would like to say thank you to all the ends, but especially Ed 002. It is very difficult to find reliable information in the States, so your information is extremely valuable. That ends my little rant, sorry I accidentally hit send earlier.

I read this site frequently but I rarely post. This is an exciting time to be a blue. We have had an amazing summer until this point. In the past 3 months, we have fired the manager of Belgium, hired Ronald Koeman to replace him, hired Steve Walsh to be director of football, signed Gueye, Steck, Williams and Bolasie for 44M. We sold John Stones for 40M after Barnsley's cut. i believe there will be anywhere from 3 to 5 signings before the window closes, but at most 1 before deadline day.
Now to the football. This season has been a breath of fresh air. The negativity that was present under Martinez has disappeared. So far this season we drew against Tottenham without Lukaku, Bolasie, and Williams. We then beat West Brom on the road after falling behind. Koeman had the footballing knowledge to spot the tactical problem and fix it in time to get the win. Our next 5 games are Stoke, Sunderland,

With all the talk of a new keeper, Begovic seems to have droped off the radar, is he not considered up to the standard we are looking for, or have chelsea got the hump because we would not part with Lukurk?

Knowing the way Everton work in the transfer market, the fact we are not being linked with Begovic is more promising than if we were. None of the rumours of purchases have turned out to be true. If i were you JCW i would look at everyone we are not linked with as a possible target.

Just after some opinions. Firstly, let me say I'm not kone's biggest fan, so this isn't me having a go at anyone for their opinion.

The thing i'm wondering is that we all seemed to love the straq when he came. Generally because he worked hard, even if he weren't the best player. Could the same thing not be said about kone? He caught a nasty injury when he joined and constantly gets slated by fans. However, he generally seems to work as hard as he can whenever we call on him and pops up with the odd goal.

What's the difference? Is it just that we have moved on and now expect better quality? If that's the case, personally I think that's a mistake. Even the top teams have players who may not be as technical as others but will put a shift in. Is it just the fact that bobbie brought him in? I can't really figure it out.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

25 Aug 2016 02:35:05
Could be that he was played out of position by ofm, Koeman has seen Naisse and not impressed, sticking with Kone suggests he may get something out of Kone.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2016 08:11:33
In part, I think the problem is that he was a Martinez signing from Wigan who at best is a hard working squad player and that's doesn't sit easy with evertonians who demand high standards.
Would Koeman keep him/ play him if we had more quality? I don't believe so which is why I think he'll be gone in the next 12months. For me, he's a good championship player -- he's hardworking, has a decent goal tally and seems like a nice fella.
