The most unattractive CL final I've ever seen, Athletico masters of stifling games

Believable0 Unbelievable0

With Derby not going up, perhaps we could have another look at Will Hughes? Seems very composed in possession (little similar to Barry), and type of RM player. What say you? Also, am I alone in not being that keen on the Townsend talk? Always seems to have a bit of a chip on his shoulder.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

24 May 2014 23:00:51
Not for me mate, has no right foot, weak, clumsy, poor first touch and cannot beat a man unless he is playing a poor championship side, massively overrated

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't agree, Will Hughes is one of a number of English kids who with the right attitude and coaching can develop into a quality player. Would all depend on price, £6m plus a few add ons would be as high as I'd go.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with Swan seen him play a number of times last season, vastly over rated and is now not first eleven choice at Derby, wouldn't touch him.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 May 2014 18:47:49
What did you all think of Jamie ward? I thought he stood out as much as anyone else.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Average championship player, would never cut it in premiership.

Agree0 Disagree0

Impressed with him when watching him open Brighton up

Feel sorry for Derby today, we've been on the end of a few sucker punches this year after dominating so know how the fans must be feeling. One thing I hope QPR go straight back down, completely undeserved today.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed, QPR didn't offer much all game. It was only a defensive lapse that let them in at the last moment, also feel for Derby, honest town with honest fans.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree. That was the most one sided game at Wembley since 1968 when WBA beat Everton thanks to a Jeff Astle strike. QPR never showed up today and stole it at the death. Derby dominated and could have had a penalty in the first half. They must feel gutted.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 May 2014 16:17:43
Watching the playoff final, not much to get excited about but I am impressed by Thorne of Derby. If we don't get Barry I think he would be worth looking at especially if QPR win. Does the Barry role defensively, probably not as good in distribution but he is big, quick, seen him a couple of times make some surging runs.
First time I have ever seen him so don't know if he is having a blinder or if he is always at this level. Hughes is a nice player but seems way over rated to me. Wouldn't mind Hoilett is he still only 22? Could be class with better players.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree, impressed with a couple of derby players today. Thorne and Hughes might be worth a look, seeing as derby aren't going up. Thorne is a west Brom player though isn't he? I'd think they'll be calling him back next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

No idea Gibbo, if your right given that he is 21 I would say that West Ham would be wanting to keep him yes

Agree0 Disagree0

24 May 2014 17:28:18
Oh look our fans want us to sign players after one game again, hughes is way overrated, I've always been impressed by hoilett but think he is at his level and his lack of a left foot or any ability to beat a man is quite bad, thorne couldn't buy a game for any of his loan clubs and no one wanted him back, he is 21 and is on loan from west brom, he came into the side and was rushed against man utd, some saif he had a good game, he was ok, he is someone who will do well at championship level, jumping into our midfield? That is absolutely hilarious, not to mention he is injury prone, not good enough, one good game against gary oneill and karl henry, with that track record i'm shocked madrid don't want him as a long term replacement to xabi alonso

Agree0 Disagree0

I said worth a look swan not put offer Brom £20m and offer him £100k a week. However if football manager is to be believed, and we all know it's the oracle of football, Thorne will go on to captain everton and lift the champions league trophy. Like in my game ;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Whatever Swan, your constant know it all attitude is wearing thin. If you read my post I clearly state it was the first time I saw him so he could just be having a good game (therefore clearly stating I would need to see him more to make a true judgement)
I also state that we as a club should have a look at him, not sign him. He is young and English and performed well in arguably the most intense football fixture in club football anywhere in the world.
I know, I know you are far more knowledgable about all things football than everyone else on this page so my opinion is immediately stupid to such a football god such as you but there is really no need to humiliate me with your superior ability to spot a player you could let me down more lightly. I too do not understand why you are not the head scout at Everton, it's a mystery.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 May 2014 20:35:41
True svenny, maybe vitor will have a look at him

Agree0 Disagree0

Swan having inside knowledge about something (he was the first manager interviewed for the job) and just outright believing your opinion is superior to others is completely different

Agree0 Disagree0

24 May 2014 23:14:06
I don't believe my knowledge or opinion is superior I was just pointing out that our fans bang on about someone after one game and then you go on, what was i'm assuming, having a go at me but tbh the bit about me thinking i'm a god was just so funny I didn't bother reading the rest, i'm not arsed who was interviewed first, I have inside knowledge mario suarez is a top target of martinez and I have inside knowledge barkley hates moyes a lot, woot woot, I voiced my opinion on thorne and you got annoyed because I didn't agree with you, in all honesty svenny I couldn't give a rats arse that you have sources that say vitor brown shoes was going to be our new manager because he isn't is he, its done and dusted now, I've had a lovely bottle of beer and I enjoyed the final, well it was boring but hey robaldo and bale were poor, gabi had a decent game, if we lose mccarthy we should definitely look at him

Agree0 Disagree0

Swan it's not just your opinion. It's the fact you don't properly read what people are saying and then write garbage. I never said we should sign him and made it very clear I had never seen Thorne play before so could not make a true judgement. Yet you took that as me saying watched a player once we should sign him.
So quite frankly if you are not going to bother reading other peoples posts don't respond to them, you just end up looking like a grumpy, arrogant, fool

Agree0 Disagree0

25 May 2014 10:02:25
Oh look irony! Horrible horrible irony!, had you read my previous post 'properly' you would of seen I said 'i was just pointing out that our fans bang on about someone after one game', did it particularly say you? No of course not, our fans do that, a lot, did I read your full post? Yes, did you say we should 'look at him', what does that mean? Send cameras to stalk him? Course it means we should look at him as a possibility to sign him, again, because of one game, yet you don't come on here after each game you see and point out one player, you did it once to add to the list, don't be so touchy, I have nothing to be arrogant about goodboy, next time, get proper sources about our next manager as it makes you look like a bit of a liar, unless your source is having you off already, wouldn't suprise me, lighten up mate, don't be so sensative

Agree0 Disagree0

" what was i'm assuming, having a go at me but tbh the bit about me thinking i'm a god was just so funny I didn't bother reading the rest"

Swan 24th May 2014

Sorry but how else am I supposed to understand that as you not reading the full post before replying?
Re my sources, despite Svenny not being my actual name! About a year ago I posted two things which because of the details got me in to a lot of rubbish the eds had to remove them, needless to say they are not sources anymore but they both had either first hand or intimate knowledge of two of the top 3 shareholders at everton. So no I was not lying.
Anyway when I say have a look I actually meant sending scouts, unaware he was a West Ham player at the time. I have read about scouts being at several European league games particularly holland but had not heard anything about them watching Derby this season.
Either way this really isn't worth arguing about, maybe was over reacting and I apologise.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 May 2014 15:24:23
George Thorne anyone? Looks like a quality player and only 21

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree both you and Svenny. Look very useful if pair to Jimmy Mac.

Has there been any more interest in Ryan Gauld, John Souttar or Andrew Robertson from Everton recently?
There were rumours we were interested in the three of them during the last two transfer windows, especially Robertson, who we supposedly bid for. They have had a good season with Dundee, getting to the Scottish cup final, and would add to the young, talented players (Barkley, Stones, Coleman, McCarty etc.) we already have.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - As far as I know there's been no moves for any the Dundee Utd players but there is still interest.}

If I could sign one realistic player this window it would be a Ryan Gauld.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Oli. He's the best of the trio from Dundee Utd and we should move for him quickly before someone else does.

Agree0 Disagree0

Glad I'm not the only one on here whose seen what he could become Davey. Don't think Dundee Utd will sell yet but him and Barkley would gel perfectly alongside each other. We are the perfect club for him, he's got ridiculous ability but his next team will define him. Under Martinez he could grow to become a world class attacking midfielder. Or he could stagnate in the U21s somewhere else. Or he could move to a CL club, play and not live up to the hype. Here he'd be protected and learn under one of the best modern man managers in the game.

50 million for Luiz, wtf is going on

Not Everton related

Would love Derby to beat QPR today, Big spending doesn't always work, QPR would seriously be in carshalton street and poor old Arry

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Before the big bucks came I quite liked them as a club but can't stand them now, come on derby!

Agree0 Disagree0

Completely agree. Question is would the world's most over-rated manager walk away or spend another £100m on another 10 spurs rejects. Fingers crossed, we'll find out

God, how deluded and up their own backsides are Manchester United fans. Had a look on there site and in relation to McCarthy, some want him and some dont. But we are a small club, mid table and so on. Do they forget they have no European football next season due to a crap defence, just as bad midfield and a un-interested attack.wish they would get over themselves and realise that football is not about man utd. And if any Manchester United fans see this, McCarthy would walk into your team. But he's not for sale so jog on.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You have to remember most of these people are new to football. I was at the game when City sent them down (went over a bet). Doubt any of them muppets even realise they were ever relegated. Ask them if they have ever heard of Division 1. Oh and 2.

Agree0 Disagree0

My daughter is a Manchester United fan. She's 2. Is she a muppet because she doesn't remember when we were relegated? Troglodyte.

A FINANCIAL FAIR PLAY RANT BY DEGSYPULFORD:
I have been looking into the rules and application of the FFP rules. What a complete joke. It appears that Man City have overspent on wages and player signings by about 146 million. They are being punished with restrictions of squad numbers for next season's champions league. Liverpool have overspent by about 90 million over the last 2 seasons. However, they will not be punished because they are currently not in this years european competitions. Their accounts will be looked at in October next year. Their American owners are saying they will spend heavily this transfer window. This will add to the 90 million deficit. We will have to wait and see what happens there. Everton have qualified for Europa League, so although there is no money in it, the FFP rules also now apply to us. This means we are in a competition that generates little or no extra money, but ensures we get the restrictions applied to the main competition (champions league). Man United are not in Europe so will not be restricted to an overspend. Admittedly the rules are being brought in over a number of seasons. This is why it applies to some and not others. The problem as I see it is that they are called fair play rules. Yet all they seem to do is make it ok for one club and not another. Those that already have a wealthy owner and are already in the champions league couldn't give a monkey's about restrictions and fines because they already have tonnes of cash. eg Man City are restricted to overspend by 49 million on top of what they generate in profit. What a terrible hardship for them!? A club like ours that has got where we are in a fair way and by good management are now in a situation whereby a prospective new rich owner will look at us and think. it is not worth buying that club because I cannot invest sums of money without facing sanctions or fines on top of what I have to spend to buy the club and on top of any player purchases. He would probably think. I would be better buying a club currently not in european competitions. eg Newcastle etc.
Liverpool can continue to bankroll their way in and when the rules apply to them next season, they will again have the champions league cash and can sell half of their ever increasing squad and probably then be back in the break even situation that uefa desire.
This begs one question to me: Is this fair play? I would say not. In fact I would go further to say it is likely to make an elite top few clubs who are financially so far ahead of the others they will be able to sustain this difference. Qualification for Europa may turn out to be the worse thing ever for our club. We may never get the buyer or investment we need to make the jump into Champions League regular qualification.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You know what I couldn't give a toss about the FFP. Rich clubs will always get around it. More interested in what we do, and am really looking forward to Europe next season. Easy jet here I come!

Agree0 Disagree0

Hey Woburn, I love your optimism. Easy jet sounds great. I am just saying FFP rules = exactly the opposite. They create an unfair playing field when they are supposed to create a fair playing field.

Agree0 Disagree0

Your absolutely right Degs, but unless I can vote you on to FIFA group then were snookered. You would get my vote by the way.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with everything you said degsy except I'm sure the 90 mil over spend by the reds may not be looked at this year but when they do look at it they look at the previous 2 year period so it they will fall foul of it then especially if they over spend again this year. That's the way I understand it anyway.

Agree0 Disagree0

You are right ToffeeAL but think about it. When they eventually look at it, they will apply a similar punishment to Man City's. ie a restriction of 21 players instead of 25 in their Champions League squad. wow that will hurt. And a max spend the following season of 49 million more than what they generate from football. In other words similar to what they are overspending now. Then consider that they will generate an extra 50 million from the Champions League each season. This means in effect they will be able to spend literally 100 million on players each season without falling foul of the fair play rules. Whereas we will have the same restrictions, no money to begin with, make no money from the Europa League and this is to ensure fair play? What we should have done was get a rich new owner in 2 years ago, spend 150 million to ensure getting in the Champions League then had a stupid restriction of a maximum spend of 49 million more than we generated from football. Fair play = less fair play in my view.

Agree0 Disagree0

To be honest this FFP was never going to lead to clubs being excluded as the ones spending the huge sums are the same clubs UEFA need in the competition to keep it attractive to the TV and sponsors if fact I'd say the only ones that will benefit are UEFA when they impose the fines. In my opinion they should just let clubs spend what they want and if they go out of business then they only have themselves to blame.

been reading the comments about manu so called interest in mcarthy, what are they on seriously, basically saying he is not worthy of even being toouted, now dnt get me wrong I am happy they think like that because I think he is awsome for us, but they need to have reality check manu are not any kinda force, no one fears the atm, and mcarthy woould be better that all there engine room. there is not one player I would trade, swap or even part ex from man u for mcarthy.

so much so I had to make my point on there page

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Just to clarify, you're angry because we don't want to sign one of your players that you don't want to sell us? Ok.

£50 million for David Luiz? The football world has gone mad. My only concern is that Chlsea will now come sniffing around us for Stones, possibly using Lukaku as some sort of bait

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If crap like David Luiz is going for £50 million then Stones has to go for £60 million. A much better player already and only going to improve.

I hope to God PSG don't come in for Clevs, they will probably bid about £80 million for him and that will be the end of that dream.

Agree0 Disagree0

Think the clevs thing has been bit over done now, I agree that 40m for David luiz is barmy, certainly as a defender but if they are planning to use him as a dm not as bad as we know he's an accident waiting to happen

G'day Ed's and fellow blues, Haven't been on in quite some time, I see a lot of new posters and haven't seen much from many of the old familiar posters. Can I ask if any of you have changes names to let me know so I can see who's still around, Thanks.
Anyway thought I'd share this, I keep hearing the name Jordan Rhodes especially over the last two weeks. Today I was informed that he is quite a high priority for Bobby and talks have taken place. Rhodes is interested to come on board after speaking to Naisy about the club and life at Goodison Park. I think he would be a great signing as he definitely knows were the net is and if anybody can make him a success in the top flight it's Bobby.
