There are many many reasons why Everton is a special club and unless you support us its very difficult to put into words what being a blue is all about. One of the reasons is without being one of the wealthy clubs our signings mean everything to us. Is anyone going to seriously tell me the likes of markovic, lallana and Emre can are double or quadruple the player besic is? I'm sure we would all like to splash 20 Mil here and 30 Mil there for players but there is something special about finding bargains like besic and hopefully henen and watching them wear the blue shirt with pride. I hear people praising Brenda all the time for the job he is doing but mark my words, we have the real special one in Roberto. COYB

Lukaku is a done deal ,,,,Tristan

Agree0 Disagree0

Lukakus a done deal, get in, what number has he took for me top?

Agree0 Disagree0

Blue bas,

we are a special club mate make no mistake.
But and its a big but, we had money to burn in the 60s 70s an early 80s smashing transfer records, we still have a billionaire at the club, who is tight a ducks ar@e, so please let's not get on the we can not afford this or that, this season sees the club given the most money received £89 million, and we rent finch farm for £1.5 mill, so we could and should spend a little extra, am BKs fan (true gent) but he does need to splash cash this season gave us £39 mil extra surly we could spend that?
so really we ain't skint just prudent

I predict that none of us will have any fingernails left soon. We will all be smoking 20 a day, drinking a bottle of scotch and having appointments with our psychiatrists on a bi-daily basis. That's what being an Evertonian does for you! There. believe that one guys!

In the interview Roberto gave on radio he said we will get in the 3 or 4 players we need to finalise the squad for the European games, perhaps I'm reading too much into it or maybe just being optimistic but that statement suggests one of those signings will be the main striker we need - thoughts anyone?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I thought exactly the same to the point I've been sitting here all day thinking that if that is a true statement and one isn't a major striker we're in big time trouble.

Ed. I would like to share my early difficult days as an Evertonian. Will understand if you don't post as it's a long story.

One Saturday in the early - mid sixties my Dad picked up a square piece of wood with two metal hooks screwed to it, told me to get my coat as we were going to the match. We got the football special from Old Swan, there were dozens of them. Me, my Dad and the piece of wood went into the Anfield Road end unchallenged. I couldn't see a thing. My Dad took me right to the back, put the metal hooks over a girder and sat me on the home made seat he had made especially for me. I had a great view, right behind the goal, apart from when then ball was in the air, which was often. I was totally underwhelmed. I was watching Liverpool!

This happened every other week in the end I didn't want to go even though I loved football and played it with my mates at every opportunity.

A few months later when my Dad was working, my uncle came round and asked my Mum if he could take me to the match. This time we went to Goodison. I was totally overwhelmed. It was magic, as if I was in heaven. I will never ever forget it. Everton v Tottenham.

We got back and I announced straight away I was an Evertonian. Now I was my father's only son. He went absolutely mental. I got it, my uncle got it and so did me mam for letting me go.

There was then a lull for a while, things cooled down and after Liverpool won the Cup in 1965 my Dad sort of accepted I had 'come out' and bought me an Everton season ticket.

What a year. I remember the tannoy at the match playing the Len Barry song 1, 2, 3. I remember the FA Cup run 1, 2, 3. In R3 Sunderland 3-0. R4 Bedford 0-3. R5 Coventry 3-0. It wasn't 3-0 in the 1/4 final Man City 2-0 after 2nd reply. I'd seen all the home games and as a season ticket holder was entitled to a ticket for Man U in the Semi. To the rescue my uncle. Apart from standing outside the pub until 245 while my uncle and his mates had a few pints, it was brilliant, we won 1-0. I hardly saw anything as I was too small. It didn't matter? We were at Wembley - never even conceded. Got a ticket for the final, so did my uncle. He even sorted overnight accommodation for the son he never had. We won that one too of course.

My Dad also sorted me some World Cup tickets out in 66, saw Pele, remember seeing the final on the tele. It was okay. No forty years of hurt then and England just didn't seem half as important as Everton.

My Dad's dead now. I'm sure I continued to disappoint him. Everton were always more important than school work. I also rejected his plans for me to join the Navy. There is other stuff. We continued to have a sort of Mike and the Mechanics relationship through the living years. He gave me stick when Liverpool where winning everything. I didn't care. It was still better being a Blue.

I'm To rub salt into his wounds I managed to father two Evertonians.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

As great a story as that is and I'm delighted you turned into a blue, your uncle was out of order. If anyone took one of my 2 young sons to a Liverpool game there would be hell to pay. I would flip my lid and probably be arrested for gbh on a member of my own family.

Yours is ok though because he took you to Goodison ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Similar to mine Tedster. Great story. I will put mine on one day soon. My memory is a bit vague, but certain moments really do stick. Suffice it to say my Dad was also Red. Fortunately, the next door neighbours were a Catholic family of Blue's.

I feel postive about this transfer period. Just because the rest of the league is spending money like drunken sailors (my apologies to sailors everywhere), does not mean we have to do so. How much does it cost to find a player to match what we already have on board. This year will have several players training in the full preseason for the first time: Kone, Barry, McCarthy, Alcaraz, McGeady. Stones and Barkely and Oveido are ready for prime first team time. Gibson, Hibbert, Pienaar, Kone, and Oveido are back from injuries. Naismith's role up front behind the striker and as a super-sub are more certain. Besic in as a midfielder. And of Garbutt, Duffy, Lundstrom, Browing, Long, McAleny, Kennedy, and others, 3 or 4 can add a great deal to the team.

My point is that we will be deeper, healthier, and more experienced in RM's system. Yes we need a few forwards (Traore - only time will tell, and Lukaku - if he actually wants to play first team in real games) and I think Everton is very competative.

Keep the faith folks. The right players, the right attitude, and the right price are not all mutually exclusive.

We've finally got him guys:

Muhamed Besic has signed a four-year deal with Everton FC for a fee ranging between €4-5 million.

According to Everton FC's official website, Muhamed Besic will travel with the Everton team to Bangkok, Thailand, where they will play a friendly match against Leicester City this Sunday. Besic will not take part in this match as he works with his post-World Cup fitness.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez will officially present Besic as an Everton player when the team returns to Liverpool next week.

Roberto Martinez: "The next few days will allow Mo to meet the players, but more importantly it is an opportunity for him to get into optimum condition ahead of the new season. I am looking forward to introducing him to the Everton fans when we come back but first I would like to thank Ferencváros for the way in which they have approached the negotiations. They have been very understanding at this point and we have enjoyed a good working relationship."

Muhamed Besic played two great seasons for Ferencvaros in the Hungarian league, where he was awarded the Player of the Season. The 21 year-old went on to play every minute in Bosnia-Herzegovina's 2014 World Cup campaign, where he was one of the nation's Top Performers.

Besic's main position is defensive midfield, but he can also be deployed anywhere in defense, notably center-back, the position he played for Ferencvaros.

An interesting tid bit: After the World Cup match between Bosnia and Argentina, Everton manager Roberto Martinez heavily praised Muhamed Besic on ESPN's post-game show, leading many fans in both Bosnia and in the Everton circle to predict Besic's eventual move to Everton weeks in advance.

Eds, haven't been on the site for a while but just been catching up with some of the banter and there suddenly seems to be some hostility between some of the posters, most noticeably Degsy and pb2; also, a lot of posters seem to be rounding on swan. Have I missed something while I've been away or is the hot weather causing tempers to fray? I've not seen anything like this on this site between fellow blues for a while.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - it must be the heat azul, but thats why i nipped it in the bud, i like to think we are all friends here, it does happen on other pages as well mate, and with other eds having access to our pages they sometimes let a post through that i would not, i dont mind if the guys have a different view about things as that healthy, but i do draw the line at abuse and personal attacks...unless its on liverpool supporters.. :)

24 Jul 2014 17:23:37
Cheers Ed025, it's like they're all stellarised the way they're carrying on. Shame on them.

Agree0 Disagree0

I hate to admit it, but I think I must be the cause of this hostility. I really do not say things to wind people up, but I do sometimes say things with an opinionated attitude. Then others come on and have a go at me. Swan and Pb2 have both reacted to my posts and things have got quite heated. I offered a hand of friendship to Swan and we are at last both commenting on each other's posts again. Hopefully Pb2 will understand that my opinions are just that. opinions. Sorry guys if I wind you up. I am as Blue as you, and hopefully RM will give us loads of positive things to talk about this season. I will also try to be less opinionated. but that will be difficult for me! COYB

Hi Ed, about Dobbo, only a bit of fun, but I feel the need to disclose a personal interest here,
(& I don't know whether you can post this on.)

In the 80's I worked as a rep for a German kitchen company.I had a very good customer in Burnley, owned & run by a married couple, Carol &
David.
By this time Dobbo was back in Burnley, & seamed to be good friends with this couple, eccept he wasn't just buying a new kitchen.
I called at the shop one day to find the place closed, & found out later that the wife Carol had run off with Dobbo.
I think they got married & are still together.
My point is Dobbo cost me a good client, & a great deal of commission.
as they say in Germany. arbeits bis arbeits und
schnapps ist schnapps.
(don't mix business & pleasure)
Anyway it's forgive now, but I still think he was
crap at Everton.

{Ed025's Note - i loved him hendo, gave 100% every game..

One of the most negative midfielders we ever had ED025. Whenever we broke out of defence, Lach would be screaming for the ball and Dobbo would turn and play it back to Mick Lyons or one of the other defenders. Whoops. opinionated again!

24 Jul 2014 09:19:46
Before the transfer window opened, I said that this was going to be a real weird one. I suggested that in any market place, a supply and demand situation would find it's own balance. This is a business rule. The extra funds provided by Sky money together with Premiership payments and ever increasing sponsorship deals means certain clubs have an extra couple of hundred million. This includes: Liverpool, Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City, The Arse and possibly one or two others. I predicted that hardly any players would move and then on the last 2 days, you would see players going for really silly money added to really silly wages. I admit I have been surprised that a few clubs have already started to put their ducks in a row and have actually signed players. Please believe me when I say that this is the tip of the iceberg. I expect Manchester United to look to spend around 200 million. I expect the other clubs mentioned above to target one or two players from clubs around Europe. These players could well be young up and coming stars. This does make us pretty vulnerable with regards to our youngsters. However, providing we do not lose some of our younger prospects, I expect us to sign some big names on the last 2 days. possibly before, but certainly not in the next few days. If we get Lukaku, no doubt it will be undisclosed. but far more than the figures we are talking about. that is why RM is trying to hold his nerve and let Chelsea "line their ducks" up first. Then they will be glad to get rid of him. If you remember I also suggested a couple of unknown Latin players may make their way to Goodison. Lower league Spanish or Italian? Certainly Columbian and other South American lower league players are probably being evaluated. On another post, ED025 suggested that are lack of transfer activity is partly due to our high wage structure. This is completely true. If we sign a player for eg 20 million. His wages of 5 million a year on a 5 year deal means his wages are actually more than the transfer fee!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I can see the reasoning in this and also with the FFP rules homegrown players etc a few bigger clubs will potentially be looking to offload at the end of the window.

Agree0 Disagree0

Slaps hand on his face!! Degsy I'm sure you're a really nice fella mate and it seems like I'm jumping down your throat all the time and I don't mean tobut alls you're doing is stating the obvious. Of course prices will inflate if all the clubs are cash rich I hardly think people need that explaining it's obvious. Same with Lukaku, the whole world knows he is our no1 target, Martinez has said this on numerous occasions and its blatantly obvious we're holding out for him. You said hardly any ayers would move. Well loads have, absolutely loads, it's blatantly obvious United will spend huge, they've said they have 200 mil plus to spend they have a new manager and finished 7th last season again its blatantly obvious they will spend big. The other big boys always spend big and Liverpool had all that money then the SuRez money so again it's not rocket science they will spend. The last 2 days of the window ALWAYS see a flurry of activity as clubs bing in their targets and look to offload others and world cup years always bring an influx of relatively unknown players, this year teams like Columbia, Costa Rica etc excelled so of course clubs will be looking at their players, if some of the African nations got through to the quarters/semis then it would be those players in the spotlight. Lukakus wages won't be all paid at once they'll obviously be spread over 5 years so the club will of budgeted for this in any possible transfer going through, if they can't afford it it simply won't happen. I just fail to see any revelations in your posts/predictions as anyone with half a brain can glean themselves by thinking about most of it and gleaning the rest from the media. Soz mate I don't mean to be condescending towards you but I just don't see anything that most people don't already know as the blatantly obvious in your posts.

Agree0 Disagree0

You keep saying you suggested this and you suggested which uv already said previous, more money means over inflated prices its not rocket science it's common sense, still doesn't explain why we seem so far from signing anyone when a lot of teams have done a lot of business, I'm not suggesting sign just anything but were the only team that hasn't yet your making a broad assessment that only seems to apply to everton

Agree0 Disagree0

Well Martinez himself has said he expects to complete 3-4 signings in the next few days so your theory, prediction or whatever it is has not come to fruition. We certainly will not be signing 4 players and then signing more big money players at deadline, unless we sell

Agree0 Disagree0

I think at least 2 of those will be for the under 21s Svenny mate, although he does say he is bringing them in to finalise the squad so if he means what he says you would imagine they will be big signings. If it's Besic, Hennan and Galloway and he means that statement and that's it then we're in major trouble.

Agree0 Disagree0

Has this turned into a let's all gang up on Degsy thread?

Let's all chill and almost all will be revealed in the next few days.

Pb must be a mate of swans with all his bickering with degsy.at least it breaks the monotony of people asking is there any news on lukaku

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry Pb2 mate. That last one was a joke.I get your points, but the reason I posted my original one was because quite a few posters on here were saying the boat had sailed with Rom. They said he was staying at Chelsea because Jose M had said dealings were complete at Chelski. I sent my post in because I knew Drogba was a free agent and still had hopes of a return. I also knew Lukaku is almost schizophrenic with his comments of "I want to stay and fight for my place. Or I want to leave". People were saying I posted things after they were announced, but I honestly put some posts on a while back predicting quite a few things. I also predicted the world cup finalists. although I did think Germany would lose. That one surprised me. I like making predictions. Some are meant to be with a wow factor, but some are blatantly boring. I am an old git and have coached youth football very successfully and that's why I offer my opinions. I don't mind you having a dig at me. carry on. I hope my responses have been polite and informative. COYB

I know we all have concerns over timings etc of our transfer activity, RM has stated he wants to bring in 2 strikers and a midfielder, assuming these to be Lukaku, Traore (loan) & Besic, we have a budget in the region of £32-40m, we look like signing the young lad Henen but as a future player, unless he is looking at a couple more loans this doesn't seem enough given the extra commitment of european football, remember last time we were very stretched and ended up with hibbo at CB and the youngsters filling up the team, surely there must be more than this coming in?
