Watching Barcelona at the moment and it does highlight the fact if we want to play a passing possession game we need confidence to do it. Pique and macherano are not afraid to bring it out and go beyond the midfield, stones can do this but I think both him and jags are scared if getting caught because we are playing with fear and being tense. Same when Barcelona give it to a fwd player with back to goal yes sometimes he gives it straight back to who gave it but sometimes they will look to turn the defender ours especially Barkley keeps his back to goal and gives the ball back all the time. Once Barcelona give the ball to a teammate they move into space I guess this us what Roberto was referring to when he said pedestrian. Hopefully the confidence will return, oh and a little Argentinian helps to.

Its the pace they play it at, by the time we have gone tippy tap the have gone tip tap tip tap boom

I'm loving the gaffer's sense of expertise on the siteeh game. Genius.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Be good if he could apply some of it to his own bloody team!

Agree3 Disagree1

{Ed025's Note - you have to admit clarkey...he does talk a good game..what a 22 carat fraud..

Who is everyone's preferred choice of central midfield? I will start it off mine would be McCarthy and Besic but if Gibson can get back to his best I would play him before Besic as I think he still has a lot to learn. But against weaker teams I would play McCarthy and Barkley.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Broadly agree with you Robbie.
Teams work us out as we usually set up the same way with 2 DM and 2 No 10's. It's not as if we keep many clean sheets.
Think we should just go for it with McCarthy as one DM. You can still have a balanced forward focused midfield.
After all a win and a loss is better than two draws

Agree1 Disagree1

Thought Gibson looked very good when he came on against Leicester. Different to our other cms as he plays lovely forward balls and gets the team moving forwards rather than sideways. Would like him and either besic or McCarthy. I'm not saying individually he is our best cm just that he provides us with something different to the rest and a bit of creativity I feel we often lack from the midfield.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed025's Note - i agree clarkey..

He certainly offers more than Barkley at the moment

Agree0 Disagree1

I think the fact we use 2 holding midfielders restricts our full backs from bombing forwards as much as they used to. It is great that we can retain so much possession, but if Coleman and Baines have to hold their runs and be available to have Howards roll outs and then be available to Jags and Stones to pass the ball across the back 4, then they can't be overlapping like they used to.

would like to see McCarthy and Gibson tonight, Besic has great passion and determination but is prone to give possession away frequently.

About the Howard situation.
the problem with goalkeepers as they age, is not their fitness, but their eyesight.
All good keepers have this problem.
Their overhaul fitness is kept to a very high standard, but failing eye sight effects their selection on crosses, shots ect.
Mr Bean should get Tim to Specsavers & "see" what the problem is.
Most good keepers play at the top level when past their best, but is their eye's not fitness that cause the problem.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

Eyesight you having a laugh! Maybe in seniors but not in his 30's. The first thing that goalkeepers lose is their quick movement of the feet to get across the goal.

Had a nightmare last night that Mr Martinez had turned into Manuel {I know nothing} from Fawlty Towers, I was hitting him with a frying pan, giving him a cuff over the back of his head, but nothing changed, At least Manuel was funny this fella is'nt.

Everyone callin for tims head does everyone remember not so long ago our young spanish keeper could not catch a cold never mind a ball he would try an punch when he should catch an try an catch when he should punch an dropped everythin he went up for an everyone was sayin hurry up bk tim. Ppl need to give him a break. I think players in the best vain of form an if that is joel then so be it these players should start games but to say tim should leave is bonkers

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Joels record when Dracula was injured proved that he should not have been dropped he kept 3 clean sheets continuous, whilst in the 3 games Dracula has been back he has conceded 4 goals. Make of that what you must.

Agree1 Disagree0

No matter how bad he plays he will always be selected who`s fault is that.

Agree1 Disagree1

I'm hoping he plays Joel on Thursday. I think pressure will be on Joel when he returns to prove it he hasn't gone back to the errors. Thursday should give him the chance to impress and show he has come on. We will need a top shape keeper against Arsenal and I expect Tim to be selected which may not be the best choice imo.

yes, mate but joel wasnt directly at fault for any goals bar krasnodar at home and needed confidence, howard just doesn't have the ability, its as simple as that, he does need to go and when he does i'm throwing a party.

Agree1 Disagree0

Howard has the ability, his form isn't great at the moment. Joel certainly took his chance when Howard was injured and his form got better and better the more he played. IMO RM made a mistake bringing Howard back straight away. He should have made him prove himself again by playing in the reserves and Europa it would have introduced competition between them both and standards then should have improved.

Agree1 Disagree0

Were you not blaming Joel ALOT! when he was in a bad run of form at the start?

Agree0 Disagree0

No not me. I try to look for the positives in all our players. Why be negative it does not do any good.

Agree1 Disagree0

IMHO both goalkeepers have shown they can play.Howard in the recent past and Joel more recently. I would pick a player based on form. age should not come into it. If both are 100% fit, it should be down purely to form. Based on that premise, Joel should have kept his place.but perhaps Howard just looked wonderful in training?

May I remind those posters suggesting that Harry Redknapp should take over for our remaining matches that he quit QPR earlier this month because he needed urgent surgery on both of his knees and he felt that this would prevent him from physically carrying out his managerial/coaching duties. Whatever other conspriacy theories there might be surrounding his departure, the two knee operations and resulting periods of convalescence are factual. That being the case, how on earth could he carry out managerial/coaching duties with us during the remainder of this season?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totaly agree sid

Agree0 Disagree0

How many teams has he relegated and would of again this season but got out before he did he is a joke I would cry if he took over :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Plus every club he leaves are left with some world class players and some real dross too. But more importantly, they are skint!

I know when moyes left I among others was happy with a more refreshing approach to are games, but look at the sham were in now never did moyes have a squad morale like ours is now. He also signed players carefully so the first always improved and in my opinion the first six months of our last season we played the best football to date, look at the stats they don't lie.

RM took over a squad that still had the moyes solidness and added attacking flair and were we top notch last season, role on to this year the backroom staff is all over the place the squad look clueless and it's crazy to think it's the same team, quite pathetic

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i agree mike..

I also remember moyes 2nd season being a shambles, just avoiding relegation.hope if we stick with martinez,it's just a case of 2nd season syndrome.I can't see kenwright getting rid and if we did,who would want to come to us?only good manager who would come hopefully is bilic.

.can anyone tell me how the hell RM hasn't been sacked yet?!?? We're a complete joke of a club, if it were Spurs, arsenal, Man U., man sitteh, liverpool in our position in the league at thus final quarter of the season the gaffer would of been fired by now.does Bill no longer have high expectations for our club or do we no longer fit into a top 6/7 status in the league anymore?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - bill seems to think its a blip zacki, he does,nt say much in the press but it seems to me that he wants to see this season out and re-assess then..

Ed025:

I agree with you about BK wanting to see the ''season out'' etc.

On paper that sounds like a decent and proper thing to do .

However he should be more wary surely,
after the Wigan debacle and their overly patient approach perhaps due to the chance of them winning a cup comp. over riding being a lousy league team (and no league tradition to uphold) .

Once again I echo the many blues on here

Dear Mr Kenwright

WE ARE EVERTON FOOTBALL CLUB.

not Wigan!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i did not say i agree with it 247, in fact it may be too late even nowi! it was just how i think it will pan out mate..

. more like he can't afford to sack him as he gave the skinny waiter a whopping new 5 year deal in the summer like all the other flops this season. Can't be any coincidence there.Barkley, Barry & Lukaku come to mind!
