Under 23’s currently 3-0 up against Portsmouth, however the great news is that Coleman doesn’t look as though he’ll take long to get back in the first team, with the added news that Luke Garbett looks like he’s up for it.

Great news on both guys.

Jags commentating on game tonight couldn't praise Garbutt enough. Lad put in a couple of cracking free kicks, and was always looking to overlap. Got to play him.

23 Jan 2018 21:28:17
Garbutt wasn't great and his crossing was atrocious but I'd rather give it a go with him in the first team than not.

It's tough when you're playing at an empty stadium.

Our Seams though looks close as you guys say. He is so important to us. We need a leader and someone to organise and abuse the slackers in the team. Love him.

Watched it also. That Nathan Broadhead looks a proper live wire. Very quick and loves to pass and go. Could be a good future winger for us.

No idea what you were watching BJ? And don't really care to be honest. Seems some people just want to be miserable.

Agree1 Disagree1

24 Jan 2018 08:17:19
I wasnt being miserable just honest. And I explained that it's not a good place to judge him in an u23 game with no-one it. His crossing which I pointed out was very poor. Almost every cross was 10 miles in the air with no pace and behind every Everton player.

HOWEVER, he deserves a chance in the 1st team.

Seems some people just accept mediocre performances.

24 Jan 2018 13:58:53
Personally, I thought Garbutt had a decent game, get no complaints from me if we registered and started him on the left, another I would put in is Beningamine in place of Schnids, he is a very good ball winner and quick to lay it off as well.

Broadhead, Sambu, quite a few played well last night, probs the best on the pitch was their goalkeeper, apart from one mistake for our third goal, he kept us from scoring 6 or 7 goals last night.

24 Jan 2018 14:24:46
Woburn, when Garbutt first appeared ont he scene, I fancied him and Baines playing together down that side. Both are able to cross a ball, both can defend and in my view Garbutt being the better tackler and both operate as effective wing backs. The left hand side of the Team would become rock solid and that is what we need. Make the foundations firm and you can build on that.

24 Jan 2018 16:54:29
Won’t argue with that DFS. Just think the guy is a step up from Martina, and so deserves his chance.

Agree1 Disagree0

24 Jan 2018 18:16:08
And I wouldn't disagree with that Woburnblue. Even if you're not interested😉

Don't take it personal mate. I appreciate every view on here and mine are probably more wrong than most. I've got a big mouth but as big a heart for our club.

{Ed025's Note - they are looking for a LB green howard, if we can get the right guy then a deal will be done mate..

24 Jan 2018 14:11:00
I would register Luke Garbutt, played well last night, a couple of overhit balls but understandable with that wind last night, looked good going forward and also at defending.

After watching last nights game I would also put Beningame in place of Schnids, great ball winner and great at playing the lay off.

Great news that is, Kenny has done really well but Coleman gives us so much more and is a born leader.
Now let's get Garbutt in the squad now Lennon has freed a place up.

Forget all this, is he good enough, all we need to know is if he is better than Martina. That will do for now.

Mr morishe needs to start again in the summer and have a clear out jags, Baines, Williams, Rooney, besic, schnids, Martina, Lennon, all need to go and rebuild. But first job throw the cheque book at a top manager like Simone and get him at any price.

Believable4 Unbelievable7

23 Jan 2018 07:23:21
Appreciate your sentiment about getting a top manager but just a point of caution.
From what I've seen of his team's, is Diego simeone not just a Spanish big Sam?
He sets his teams up defensively despite having an array of world class talent at his disposal and He plays counter attacking football which we don't have the players for atm and I don't think anyone fancies another summer of 8-10 players in and the time it takes for all those to settle. But he is also tough, a battler and a winner.
I am be wrong in my opinion of him, don't watch his side week in, week out but I think we need to scour the world and get the right people in to advise the club on who the right man to bring in will Be, to move our great club up to the top.

23 Jan 2018 07:46:32
Yeah just sell our only left back and our top scorer. Good plan.

Agree8 Disagree1

23 Jan 2018 09:10:08
Yes be careful what you wish for. One of our current problems is the amount of change of staff. Players, managers and directors of football etc. Any team game needs a team that can settle. Look at Man Utd, Spurs and how long it took them to settle after a major overhaul. We do need additions. that is unquestionable. but it will take time for players to understand their teammates and strengths and weaknesses. Man City took a while to gel. all teams take time. We have already had at least 2 major overhauls and are now suffering from: bad signings, lack of cover in certain positions, lack of any player in one position, too many in other positions (if that is possible) , too many older players, an over-reliance in too many younger players and a change of 3 managers in a couple of seasons. In my humble opinion, this is why we are so bad now. not because of one man who has come in to steady the ship. I don't think there is a human being on the planet who could make us an instant success.

Agree3 Disagree0

23 Jan 2018 09:41:20
Echo comments above. What we need is a cohesive Squad and Team, not all this constant chopping and changing. No blaming Sam except to say, stop listening to us fans and others, pundits being the main culprits. I like the Philosophy of you do not change a winning Team (in our case unbeaten) . Coincidentally our unbeaten run ended when Sam like Koeman and Unsworth before him decided to chop and change. We need that unbeaten consistency once again and you only get that from a settled side.

Agree3 Disagree0

23 Jan 2018 10:13:21
I know this is only an opinion site but some are just total unrealistic. So as we are spending Mr Morishe money for him I think he should wait to see who wins the CL then buy the whole team and management structure and bring them over to Goodison to play as Everton.

Agree2 Disagree1

23 Jan 2018 11:06:05
Ye forget the title he won by breaking up the la liga monopoly of real and Barcelona and the champions league finals.
Big difference between him and SA is he is a winner mate.
The reason lpool won so much is because they signed winners and the boot room had a winners mentality.
Simeone is a winner.
SA keeps teams up?!
Ferguson broke up the monopoly of rangers amd celtic. Another winner who signed players with a winning mentallity who also played counter attacking football but ye SA just hasn't got players like lookman or bolassie or lennon or walcott ya know players with pace who can hit teams on the counter.

Agree3 Disagree2

23 Jan 2018 14:03:10
I said he was a winner, Pauly but it seems to me the style of football is similar to Sam's and people are moaning about how turgid and boring our football is atm. Simeone has also struggled this season. Losing and drawing games they should win and getting knocked out champs league group stages.

This is why we either have to support Sam and hope he works out for us or take a long hard look around the world (and take advice from football people. and ed2) and find the right younger manager for a long term project to build us a dynasty not a stop gap.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jan 2018 15:02:44
He seems to have admitted he has taken them as far as he can.
I think he is hungry for another project.
His reps contacted us ya know.
You say he uses similar tactics?
Maybe but have you seen his midfield at work? His defence at work?
When they defend they do it with guille amd determination and the midfield is so hard working it can break anyone down and then hit you hard. Also he is at a club that sells their best assets regularly.
He is young, ambitious and prepared to die for the club.
He would be am instant hit at our club and his football will evolve naturally as will his reputation as a great manager.
La liga is similar to the scottish prem and no one is going to permanently remove Barcelona or real let's be honest.
He needs a new challenge and we need a new force amd he is perfect.

Agree2 Disagree0

23 Jan 2018 16:00:18
Pauly what evidence is there that his representives contacted us? Only time I seen it was a couple of rags using the story but no solid proof.

Reliable journo from the echo.
Cant see him risking his reputation for a fake story.
Many people were talking about this at the time and saying he isn't one for repeating tabloid garbage.

Agree0 Disagree1

23 Jan 2018 18:59:52
Sam for me is not the answer. It's only early with him but he is not filling me with confidence with a change in his old set ways.

However, we have to give Sam a chance. It's was the wrong appointment but we've made it and have to see it through to the summer at least.

Simeone is nothing like Sam. They have a great mixture of attacking play but what he does do is get intelligent players who are good on and off the ball. They see danger but on the attack are even more dangerous.

I think though he will probably be at Chelsea next year. Definitely not with us.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jan 2018 19:28:50
Thats a great idea SA90. In fact why not take their ground as well. We could knock it down, ship it over, and rebuild it quicker than we will get our new ground :-)

Just over a week to the end of the transfer window and our next game so 2 questions; Q1 do you think we will get anyone else in and if so who? and Q2 do you think the players should be taken away for a few days bonding in the sun or should they be made to do double training sessions? Personally I hope we get some players who can actually defend but I won't hold my breath. And for Q2 I can see the merits in both options. Fat lot of help I am I know 😂😂.

I see the negativity and derision towards SA, with the exception of the usuals, on here and i have to ask. did anyone really expect anything else?
Were you so blinded by his grand entrance that you forgot about his dismal brand of football?
Look at best he was here to fill a gap and up to now he is rapidly struggling. This is by far his biggest job. He is only here because we couldn't get our targets and one poster is right when he says he held us to near ransom and knows its his last big payday regardless of results.
Lets be honest we have failed to replace DM.
He at least gave us sound foundations to build on but we failed miserably. Now we have an investor who has ambition for this club but he is in the middle of the old boys network and his first choice ( RK ) didn't work.
I am sure he will be seeking advice and identifying his NO1 target and this time he will get the right man at the right price.
Our problem right now is hitting the 40 point mark.
Its unthinkable that we fail.
Will SA do it? Probably but itll be by the skin of his teeth. He will be hailed a hero etc etc but always remember he is now playing worse foorball than RM RK and DU.
We all need to get behind whoever is in charge or on the field and get us to the 40 point mark.
Please don't wish for M Silva as he is nowhere near big enough to take us forward.
Keep wishing for a certain Argentine over in Spain and keep ya chins up.

Still bemused by the concept of getting behind the manager. Does it mean unquestioning approval of whatever he does? If not that what does it mean?

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Jan 2018 09:41:31
I think it means not getting on his back. We can hardly sing his name from the stands and keep a straight face right now. So perhaps doing nothing is as good as getting behind him so to speak. What we can do and should do is get behind the players and make some noise. We’re so quiet sometimes it’s maddening. Should we be waiting for something to cheer about or should we start cheering to encourage some passion on the pitch? Goodison is the very epitome of the twelfth man, and currently we are not utilising it.

Agree0 Disagree1

23 Jan 2018 10:16:11
I would have thought SA's biggest job was manager of England.

Agree1 Disagree4

23 Jan 2018 11:10:03
The england job?
All the best players at his disposal for all those countless, meaningless friendlies and absolutely no pressure whatsoever in tournaments because they expect to go out at the knockout stages against any team bigger than Scotland?
Like i said WE are his biggest ever job.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Jan 2018 13:42:40
"Not getting on his back" so it is unquestioning acceptance.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jan 2018 15:08:51
No glennk what i mean is we need to get behind whoever is on the pitch doing whatever he has told them to do because these players need us to shout for them rather than at them becuase we are not safe and the way it lools to me is that they will find amy excuse not to bother.
If they all start to feel the crowd behind them then maybe we can help steer us to safety.
Lad i question every game he has taken charge of but to what end? To what avail? The more we moan the worse it gets. Yes we can question tactics on this site but at the games we need to remember we are not safe yet. If we all want a new start in the prem next year then we have to start coming together here.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Jan 2018 15:26:49
There’s a difference between approval and acceptance. Just because you accept something doesn’t mean you approve of it. Also you can accept and still question. For instance I accept he has to tighten up defensively but I question why he changed a back four that was fit to play and therefore started conceding again.
