One minute we are laughing at the posters on Liverpool Rumours site, the next we are making the same posts ourselves after the Palace game. Was always a bit worried about this fixture after last year and with the changes made. The Wolfsburg result was a bit flattering. We were lucky to only concede one.
I posted previously that with the Prem teams already eliminated the League Cup was there for a long run. The League Cup has always niggled me that we have always gone out far too early. Do think though that this year we should deprioritise it and test a few youngsters, even if it results in elimination this round.
Happy that Oviedo is back. Wouldn't want him to play whole game though. Besic must be desperate for a full game, red card permitting. Kone surely must be almost fit by now to start and Robles you never know may have a half decent game.
If the Swans make changes too, we may even get through!

I was the one who directed people to the LFC page for a laugh - but laughed at myself later by 'over-reacting' tongue in cheek to our defeat.

I think there's a difference between them and us - we don't 'expect' to win but we do sound off about where we think we are going wrong, which is all part of being a supporter. Ya pays ya money.

We don't call ourselves the 'best fans in the world' then viciously slag off the whole team and manager. We constructive criticise certain players who could have done better ;)

Plus we don't spend 100m to get into champs league but belittle united for spending more.

Mostly reds fans just make me laugh because they're the kind of kids who at school just picked a 'winning team' to support and then expected a lifetime of feelgood 'I'm a considerably better person than yow' silverware to make them feel superior - and then have nervous breakdowns when it doesn't appear because they 'expect' it and didn't sign up to support a losing team.
You can't say that about Evertonians - we've never had that and we've stuck by the team thru thick and thin whilst others won cups (and rigged the league so no one but a few teams can win it anymore)

Everton fans don't like defeat but we can 'handle it' when it happens - Liverpool (and United) fans can't - because that's not what they signed up for.

Having said that we were bloody awful against palace - it wasn't the bloopers in defence that hacked me off - it was the complete lack of urgency and desire - the constantly passing the ball for minutes on end across the back four without trying to move forwards - if you don't try to score more at one up, you're going to run the risk of getting mugged with an equaliser sooner or later. We had some lazy players who only started trying when we were losing which is not good enough. more effort lads!

Quality post Latchfordlad. I agree with everything you've said. Had to laugh at the "considerably richer than yow" jibe that sums up the glory hunting Reds and United perfectly.

Nice post. We do have constructive and educated on this site and yes we can certainly handle defeat. That's why last season was so encouraging. Still early days and much to be positive about this season. Whatever happens were Evertonians and that's priceless. COYB.

the palace game is done, just take our beating by liverpool like men and then move on, but then utd away, brilliant, we got torn apart by an attack force of granted, bolasie, but also fraiser campbell, jason puncheon and joe ledley, what about when we have falcao, di maria, van persie and rooney against our defence? we could break football records, and not in a good way, its a scary thought the results that may be upon us, personally against swansea I would line up like this:

joel-see how he does, if howard continues to mess up then joel should be out there to prove himself

hibbert-just put him there, we need someone there

browning-pacy and strong, can play too, give him a chance please bobby, he could end up like stones

alcaraz-we have browning for the pace, use alacaraz's experience and ability on the ball, have two footballing centre backs for once

garbutt-oviedo isn't fit and I don't want to risk baines, give this lad a chance, he's 21 soon, should be ready

gibson-need to get him playing games, a run out against swansea would be good

besic-just give him a game, have gibbo sit back and allow besic to free roam with the ball, something different

mcaleny-another who should be ready, he's nearly 23, let him use his pace

long-another one, just give him a run out

atsu-another chance for him, run at rangel or tiendalli, neither are lightening, give him game time

eto'o let him dictate play again and let the more pacy mcaleny and atsu run in behind

subs
howard, grant, mcgeady, pienaar?, baines, distin and hope

please just give the kids a go, its an unimportant competition, if they do well then we have some more options, if not, at least we know and won't be moaning for them constantly

Not a bad shout for the team against Swansea would like to see Kone in the squad if fit though

Seriously you're just writing a game off as a defeat? I know your record at anfield isn't great but how can you do that. I'd be looking at this as your best opportunity in a while to beat us at anfield . I expect us to be up for the game but we have struggled thus far, although I believe that'll change by Christmas. It's embarrassing that you're defeated already!

{Ed025's Note - its just a bit of pessimism AM, we are a bit deflated after the palace game mate, as im sure you are after fat sams crew back scuttled your lot, im hoping for a good game to the cries of...merseyshi*e, merseyshi*e, merseyshj*e.. :)

Ha ha I was deflated to but if you can't be optimistic what is the point in football? I personally believe it will be a close and very competitive game. With let's be honest, both of ours teams playing pretty Sh**e at the moment! :)

{Ed025's Note - may the worst team lose mate.. :)

I can really understand everyones frustration on here, we have gone in 2 years from one of the best defences in the premiership to now officially the worst. Perhaps RM need to look at changing the formation? when you play a back four and have two defensive midfielders sitting in front of it and we are still getting opened up time and time again something is obviously not right. I posted myself I think we need a defensive coach, maybe Stubbsy can work with the first team more?
I also believe at this time in the season there is not such a need to rotate, players should be able to play two games a week, maybe later when they are more fatigued we will need to, i'm sure players on the edge should be so up for an opportunity to show what they can do?

{Ed001's Note - you know Alan Stubbs is now managing Hibs right? Not sure he would have the time to work with the Everton first team now!}

Haha true, Duncs back we're scoring bring him back or someone like him we may start to keep clean sheets!
Ratcliffe always has plenty to say give him a job?

We still don't know how to start a season!

Threw away two leads at leicester
Conceded two stupid late goals to arsenal, when we had the game won.
Dont even talk to me about Chelsea game.
Very lucky not to concede against wesbrom
Conceded three at home to palace enough said!

If Robles wasnt so awful i'd be saying rotate him in. Howard doesn't deserve his spot in our team.
Distin and Jags are Moyes defenders, they need to move to clubs that hoof the ball up as soon as it enters there final third.

Awful start to the season, Europa league is going to kill us this year and as if we needed tiredness on top of our current performances.

8th if lucky

Have to agree in part tmh shocking start to the season results wise. However, would that be the same Howard that kept us in the game against Wolfsburg. IMO Howard has only had one bad game this season and that was yesterday. As for Jags and Distin yes they are defenders that Moyes bought but I think the clue is in the job description "defenders". What we have seen this season are players making individual mistakes that have cost us games. My concern is RM’s philosophy of concentrating on free flowing attacking football all the time. IMO Stones playing RB just doesn’t seem to be working. If you look back a season or two ago we had a similar problem when Coleman played he was often caught out of position when he went forward putting pressure on the remaining back four. He worked on that part of his game and now look how good a player he is. I am just not sure that we have the luxury of giving Stones the same amount of time as Coleman had to get it right. For me we look much better when Stones is central. I do think that RM is moving the club forward in the right direction and think that given time we will get it right. However, maybe we should look to play a bit more conservatively down the right side if Coleman is not available. Maybe we have to think about Hibbert or one of the other youngsters that is a more defensive player. I would rather see us get a few good results under our belt and not play such attacking football for a while. Once we start getting clean sheets the confidence at the back will be high, then maybe RM can tinker around until he finds the back four to play the way he wants.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have said so many times Stones at RB does not work. I actually think differently to you though re being conservative down that side if we don't have Coleman. The problem stems from Stones not being a wide player in my opinion, he is quick but not quick off the mark. When fit I would be playing Oviedo there or Baines and continue to attack down both flanks, I think attack is our best form of defense and when Coleman plays the opposition wide players struggle to make an impact because we have so much threat from our wingers and fullbacks.

Im still kicking things over today's result and performance!! We were awful! Blaming not getting a 2 goal lead on the outcome is just bull! Our defence is shockingly poor, I fear that last season when Bobby took over that we still had our defensive know how from the Moyes era, but know 12 months later we've completely forgotten the basics of defending! Worst goals conceded in the league, and 9 at home in 2 games!! 9!! Let's face it only for T-How against Wolfsberg, they'd have scored a hatful too!

I think bobby needs to hire a top defensive coach, because what were currently doing obviously isn't working, what's the point in going into every game knowing we need to score 3 or 4 to win!

{Ed007's Note - You're missing big Stubbsy's input.}

What a diabolical mess that was today. Osman I'm afraid to say is finished. He should never start another game again. Howard wtf was that. The penalty and the dropped ball. 2 things you had to do today and you stuffed them both. No matter what happens Mirallas must start every game. He terrorises defences. Naismith must start as well. People are saying get rid of Martinez, we sound like liverpool supporters. He got us our highest total of points last season and now we are headed for relegation. Talk about hitting the panic button. Anyway I still think Liverpool will smash us next week as well as Man U and maybe a couple more crappy results and then like every season go on a run of 15-20 games undefeated and this game will be a long distant memory.
