Ed can you explain please how our new DOF will work, I know you have explained a lot on this subject recently. The DOF will be responsible for recruitment is every manager/ DOF relationship different. As I thought RK is the coach, takes training tactics etc. DOF head of recruitment but I seen what Steve Walsh said "Mr Koeman certainly knows what he wants and I am going to try and fulfil that with the players that he desires in the positions he wants. "

This says to me RK is calling the shots on transfers and SW is negotiating the deals. My personal opinion is this is the best way otherwise the DOF can bring in players they the coach doesn't want. I'm sure a lot of it is communication and team work between the two. Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - Koeman will tell Walsh what kind of player he wants and the position, Walsh will go and find the best available options. He is a recruitment specialist. It was him who convinced first Nigel Pearson, then, after Pearson was sacked, Claudio Ranieri, that Kante was the right man for the central midfield role.

People say Leicester was an anomaly, but it was not, Walsh has been spotting the right players for a long time now. The thing that makes him special is that he doesn't take notice of the things that put off most people. Most people are put off by the way someone moves or like someone because of the way they move. Some players look wrong, for various reasons, in the role they play, but Walsh looks past it.}

Thanks Ed for explanation.

{Ed001's Note - you are very welcome.}

Ed001 I don't know if you have read any of my posts but I get toldI am very negative and have a "told you so attitude". A month or so back I posted that the best thing we could do would be to target the Southampton player "spotters" responsible for bringing in so many top players and that Mr Koeman may very well be a brilliant manager, but players were being signed and sold by Southampton before Koeman arrived. yet they were heading up the table whilst we plummetted down it. This was my "realistic" rather than negative comment but it got some criticism for being negative. My point is. do you think Southampton have a similar approach. ie Koeman is used to working this way and will be very happy to get the recomendations from Walsh? This actually seems exactly what we need, but will take a season or two before any benefits will really be seen. Immediate signings are likely to be difficult and players usually take a few months to bed in anyway. Some of my fellow Blues I fear are an impatient lot.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - yes, that is exactly how Saints worked as well, using a mix of stats analysis and scouting to target players for the positions they need filling. Koeman had a limited input there in choosing players, but it meant he could concentrate on working on the team, as he could trust the recruitment department to find the right players at the right price.

The issue is that it might take Walsh a season or so to get things set up correctly at Everton. So it could be two or three seasons before you can begin to get the best from the new set up. Patience will be required.}

23 Jul 2016 08:17:02
Thanks. That confirms my thoughts. So now the negative bit. I think we signed some very poor players under RM and it will take 2 or 3 seasons for us to recover to the level where we were when David Moyes left. It will probably take another season or 2 before we are up in the European places. I just hope 2 things are true. 1. Mr Mori and hismoney continues flowing in to Everton. 2. Our fans are patient enough to realise progress is being made. Our current lack of signings to date seems to be upsetting some fans.

Forgot to say. this is not a new system. Clough and Taylor used it at Nottingham Forest when they built their twice winning European Cup team. Clough worked with the team whilst Taylor found the players.

Maybe see some new faces next week. I think we will have a few late ones as well. Would be nice to get some players in tho.

But as usual efc keep everyone guessing.

I suppose this is how it should be done, the likes of other clubs talk about players like they are there's when they haven't signed.

Anyway were moving forward for the first time in 25 years.

Can't wait.

To be fair McLaren had him playing on the wing half the time. Reckon he must have scored over 10 goals last season. Price is too high but so will Joe Allen's. Crazy world of football economics.

Can I just ask fellow fans to take away our new manager, new investment, new cof, take all that away, forget about the negative style of Martinez.

Now have a good look at our squad of players, take into account the youngsters as well.

Now picture Everton as a selling club, Stones, Barkley, Lukaku, among others sold, and sold at a much lower price, if we managed to fight off the big boys and keep hold of all our squad, we would all be doing cartwheels.

Now we have money to buy players, we do not have to sell, unless we want to, jesus even a new stadium on the horizon, this is a new era for Everton Football Club, the players will come, just forget about the cost, remember we put over 50 million on Stones and Lukaku, even over 20 million for Coleman.

We cannot baulk at players being quoted at 20 million, then expect top whack for ours, forget about money, new players will arrive now we have the management and cof sorted, never has it been more exciting to be an Everton fan, now we have expectation, instead of hope and three hail mary, s. Chill out fellow Blues, Everton are back.

I find it hilarious that every player we are linked to is 25/ 30 million, I mean can't they come up with any other figures, I mean come on sigy is no way worth that and if they are asking that sort of money then he can stay there, same with sissoko, good players but we have a lot of them in our squad now, we need players that are going to bring the next level to our club, but who and where are they coming from!

22 Jul 2016 12:37:26
I think the prices of players has gone crazy, it's all relative really. Is stones really worth 50m and lukaku 65m? . In my opinion not really. All the prices have been inflated across the world due to the premier league money and China I reckon. Any premier league club is now being quoted top dollar from everywhere.

Fed up with reading so many negative posts in here.
For the first time in a long time the club is going about its business in the best way possable.
The new stadium seems to be gathering some momentum.
We have signed a cracking manager in rk.
We have signed a highly regarded dof.
We have a cracking squad of players who underachieved last year but might suprise a lot of us under our new regime.
If rk and co see any weakness in our team that can't be fixed in house then i'm 100% sure they will go and buy someone to fix it.
Just takes time and people need to realise that.

True that mate. Look at Leicester a group of players who finished fourather bottom then get a different manager in whouse instills belief in thEngland and has a way of playing and they win the league! They didn't spend millions just because the fans wanted theme to.

Since all the players we have been "linked" with, are now rumoured to be heading elsewhere or staying put. Does that suggest we either weren't linked, or that it's going to be a disappointing window.? I'm still hopefully that all signings were on hold until our DOF came in!
It would seem somewhat pointless buying players, that he wouldn't of been in agreement with.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

22 Jul 2016 10:58:22
How many players in total have we really been linked with?

What I mean by that is how many players have Everton actually said " We want this player? "

The only links that have ever been suggested have come from the press, who let's be honest are the last people we should believe. If we get linked to someone by a credible source that is the time we should get excited.

We must remember it is Everton we are talking about who are well known for keeping their cards very tightly to their chests. If we were going to sign someone we would of done it before the new DoF was in place we certainly would not of waited and risked the deal falling through.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Jul 2016 11:35:18
That was my point. The "links" weren't actually links, and were just tabloid fabrications. But are you saying, that we haven't been interested in signing anyone then? Because if we were, we would have already done so!?

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jul 2016 16:18:43
Yes,

I think if we had been interested then we would of got them by now. RK has to assess everything we had at Goodison from the players to the meat pies, His first priority ( Knowing a DoF would be joining soon ) would be to undo everything RM touched, he had to reshape everything at all levels. I would even wager he has had a big say in appointing the DoF.

No doubt RK is and has been compiling a list of players we need and positions that need filling, but the work of capturing these players now falls to SW. At the end of the day RK is only human and as such can only do so much, FM, RK and SW now have the unenviable task of rebuilding our beloved club and rebuilding it in such a way we will be a major force for decades. I honestly believe RK is there to rebuild over the next three years, Europe which I think he will get us in year 2 or 3 will just be a bonus. The work has started, the Juggernaut is rolling and will soon be unstoppable.

I'm sick and fed up with people saying "we need more patience" if you hear me out eds. New signings need time to blend into a team so that when the PL starts we need to hit the ground running with match-fit players.
The whole point of having a pre-season is to hone players skills and have them sharp. If new players come into the squad with no game time they are unfit. We have an extremely difficult first match against a really good spurs side, and if we field an unfit squad against them they will tear this side apart. If we are hammered by this side even at this early stage could set the tone for the rest of the season.
When we got the players in early June one year we got 5th place. This is no secret.
This patience mullarkey really gets on my nerves. If the excuse is that we were awaiting a DoF that shouldn't stop getting a GK which I know RK knows that we need one. He also knows we need a decent striker, a holding mid, and a decent playmaker so let's get them now.
Please stop the patience bit.

COYB.

22 Jul 2016 05:58:42
Just to ask, how do you know that rk knows we need that? While he will have known our first team squad, he would have had limited knowledge of the youth that was close to breaking through. I have no doubt that we will start to get moving in the transfer market now that he has had some time to look at the squad in more depth. Personally, I stand by my opinion that it is far better for him to have looked at the squad then went shopping than the other way around.

Agree3 Disagree0

22 Jul 2016 06:01:32
To be fair the players that we may sign that you say may be unfit are probably preseason training and playing friendlies at their current clubs, so fitness shouldn't be a problem.

Agree4 Disagree1

22 Jul 2016 08:41:28
Haven't we just got a second keeper? maybe RK is happy with what we have maybe the young lads fit the bill?

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Jul 2016 08:50:08
Exactly Tommy, the fitness arguement is silly. You could argue they have not had time to fit in to the squad but we have played one friendly so far in Austria so what exactly have any potential new signings missed?
As stated before signing Koeman, Walsh and a top class keeper would do for me this summer. A centre back if Stones leaves. After that let's see what this apparently talented and the best since the 80s squad we have can do.

Season 2014/ 15 a certain team finish 17th. Season 2015/ 16 they appoint a new manager who doesn't go out and spend millions in players. What happens to this team I mention? Well this team was Leicester who went on to win the league. Are you still worried we can't compete at the top just because we haven't bought an overpriced midfielder from a relegated side? Or an overpriced international from a Russian side? I ain't.
