I feel Koeman needs to at least sign someone soon to add some fresh blood and impetus to the same underachieving squad from last year.
A powerful centreback, midfielder with quality and 2 new strikers (haller looks good and Rolan got glowing reports from talksport crew) . Oh and sell kone, Niasee and Gibson.

22 Jul 2016 15:20:41
The other problem with taking time to sign players is that the closer it gets to the start of the season the harder it is for the selling club to replace that player. Ergo the longer you leave it the more likely it is that the player's price will increase. Get the business done now to avoid being ripped off.

Has Axel Witsel joined Inter? If he hasn't let's just pull out of the deal, if one has been offered. The kid isn't worth it, I know player power is the way football is right now but I'm sick of overrated players and greedy agents calling the shots. I bet Witsel's agents aren't talking up Napoli if Inter show them the money.

Some people seem to think that Football is like playing football manager on your phone, it isn't! We need patience, if Ronald is happy with the squad and youngsters we have then trust him till results prove otherwise. I do believe we will make a couple of decent signings but please chill out.

Tom Davies is going to be a star. Dowell looks good, as does Holgate and a host of others. I think the three I mentioned need game time. I think Davies is the pick of the bunch so I'd use him and Dowell as first team squad players (Davies due to quality and Dowell due to the positions he can play in) . Holgate and others may need to be loaned out in order to get the football they require.

Really happy with the signing of rk and Walsh. However people need to realise that Walsh isn't going to start his first day but giving us a list of players who will be signed by Monday morning. People need to be patient and trust that the club is going the right direction under moshiri. The man is literally going to rebuild us from the ground up. That's not done in a couple of months.

Believable6 Unbelievable1

21 Jul 2016 18:58:01
I totally agree cropper, moshiri has gone about this in business sense first to rebuild us then to make us great again, exciting times ahead? Yes but it won't come over night. coyb.

21 Jul 2016 20:03:56
I am really impressed with Moshiri. As Ed002 has stressed repeatedly most of us do not understand how a football club is run. I do however understand how a business is run and Moshiri is doing all the right things.
1) Put his trusted business representative on the board - Check
2) Assess the football manager and team performance -get rid- find a replacement with excellent credentials and recruit regardless of the cost and situation with present club- Check.
3) Assess the scouting and recruitment process, who does what. What does Kenwright do? Are we recruiting in a professional manner? Asses needs and recruit a DoF with excellent credentials and get him regardless of the cost and situation with present club-Check
4) Assess the needs for a new ground, have meeting with council and start ball rolling for a new ground -Check

Great thinks are happening and new players will arrive, it will take time but as far as I can see Moshiri is doing all the right things to make our club great again.

All this optimism n positivity is great however its not quite on the button. Quality players will go to qualiy Euro Comp clubs, so like the rumour were in a one on one with Juve for Koubily (whatever) , well there's only one winner. We need to get real, maybe its why Walsh has come in as DOF as he has form in finding quality for bargain prices. We don't have Europe to offer only cash and that is a dangerous route to go for a player, like offering Lukaku £100,000 a week when he doesn't even want to play for us really.

I think you will find champions league is not the pull it was just recently we have seen kante leave title winners champions league football to go to Chelsea, money talks simple as that so I don't believe we can't attract big names we just got big name manager and now the most high profiled recruitment guru, now they have been sold on a vision and left clubs in Europe, so yes I disagree.

Excellent points. However i still believe we won't get Marquee signings on the basis of money talks. The Champs Euro is a draw, because our History in it not great bar ECWC. Teams like Chelsea, ManUtd n Dare i say RS, have a massive History in it as they normally are always in it, so its understandable someone going to those teams expect at end of season they'll be in the Top Four.

Here's a surprise but not that it really matters. I'm Irish! Anyway, I like to follow managers and I think big Sam is a good appointment for England.

I know that won't go down well with some but I like him. One thing he always done was get the best out of the players he has. Some say he's negative. I don't agree. Never really had a top job and I for one am glad he is soon to be appointed England manager.

Improvement on Hodgson who I was surprised got the job seeing Redknapp was hot favourite. Best of luck big Sam. In my heart and sole I believe if anyone can improve England big Sam can!

I am utterly stunned that this man is now England manager. It used to be a job coverted by the best managers around the world but now we have this fella and Steve Bruce being interviewed.

If someone could point out what he has achieved for him to even have been a name on the list.

The whole FA want sacking. They're a disgrace.

21 Jul 2016 09:11:40
For me it is the right decision to hand the top job in English football to an Englishman. There was no need to go out and find a foreigner, handing them obscene amounts in wages when a man from these shores can disappoint the nation for peanuts!
It is worrying that the two home grown candidates were Sam and Bruce, two men who have excelled in the second tier of our game yet not done more than really survive in the EPL. That is possibly due to the shortsightedness of the chairman in the top league, it has been fashionable to employ foreign managers in the top jobs in the premier league era. Out of the two then SA is the right choice, he has handled some star players such as Djorkiaef, Okocha and Kevin Davies (haha joking on the last one) , he has always embraced new methods such as being one of the first clubs to use pro-zone. His style of football isn't as crude as it used to be years ago, he had the irons playing some decent stuff in his last season with them. He just seems to have more about him than Bruce. The one thing they both have in common is the ability to get the best out of their players and good man management skills are high up the list for a national manager. I think big Sam just edges it over SB.
BJU, as much as I think the FA is an outdated organisation I don't think we can sling mud at them just yet. We are beginning to see the damaging impact that the premier league was bound to succumb to. First it is the small pool to pick a manager from, the fact that there are only really two choices in the home grown stakes, speaks volumes about how many managers actually get a chance in the top flight. The second will be the players. The percentages a year or so ago were staggering, something like only 34% were eligible to play for England. This figure will drop again if teams don't utilise their academies and promote youth players to the first team.
Finally, can SA be any worse than we have had in previous years? Let's at least see him pick a squad and play a few games before demonising the man!

Agree2 Disagree0

21 Jul 2016 09:48:28
BlueJohnUns the best managers in the world and who would they be? The best managers in the world would want to manager their own national teams, if they couldn't or didn't have that job then you need to know why? They would also need to have actually won a trophy with their national team and be fluent in English so it narrows the field down a bit. At least Big Sam will be less likely to pander to either the media, players, agents or their clubs. I think this could be the making of the English team, who quite frankly, are crap at the moment.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2016 10:30:51
@sa90 you can talk about the amount of players in the game but that team that went to the Euro's had more quality than Portugal or ICELAND! As for English managers I couldn't give two hoots where they came from as long as they know how to win or have a clear long term plan to enhance English football.

Look, Hodgson and McClaren are managers that just don't cut it and we all knew we wouldn't win the Euro's or WC's with them in charge. Now we are going to do the same thing again and bring in a manager who's best described as someone you bring in to help keep a club in a league. Not to win anything.

It's not even as if he likes youth or develops them. He likes buying old bludgeoning players and telling them to kick the opposition off the park rather than playing attractive winning football. It wouldn't surprise me if he brought Kevin Nolan out of retirement and made him captain!

Sorry but that is not what I want to see my England team do. We should have followed the German philosophy before getting Hodgson and thinking 4 to 6 years down the line. Instead we continue to make the same mistakes.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2016 11:30:49
Sorry but that England team had more quality what than Portugal? Their passing, their ability to break down a defence, in fact the only thing they were better than Portugal at was freezing and the inability to change game plan on the pitch. That was not down to the manager that was the players the manager pick the players but at the end of the day the players lost the ICELAND fixture. I would rather win with a poor dull performance than play so called attractive football and loose. Have we not had two seasons of the later under RM?

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2016 11:51:20
I think Fat Sam is a decent appointment. He is more flexible than Roy, his footballing style has improved, and he has a plan A, B and C in matches. I don't mind someone who is prepared to play route 1 when we are struggling against more talented opposition. Too many managers are scared to look negative nowadays.

So looks like Walsh is our DofF, how about everyones honest thoughts?
Personally i'm not too sure, he did a great job last year in identifying Mahrez, Kante and Okazaki (deliberately leaving out Vardy as i hate the fella) , but prior to that what success did he have? i'm not being sarcastic there, i genuinely don't know how successful he was in earlier career.
I can't help wondering if all the pieces fell into place in one magical moment and those players turned out to be gems, rather than having the proven consistency of Sevilla's Monchi.
I genuinely hope he is a great addition to this wonderful clubs staff, but some impartial input from Eds or people with better insight would be appreciated.

On a side note, i read in the rags about us chasing Koulibaly which has been much gossiped about on here, but had to laugh at the quoted fee - £30 mil. Surely he will cost an extra 50% on that.

Take care all.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed003's Note - Vardy was sought after by several clubs so no praise should be given there,that's all I have to add.}

21 Jul 2016 06:42:39
I'm not entirely sure how having a DoF will work out, it's not something we have done before, but I have faith in Moshiri et al to restructure the club to our benefit. With regards to Walsh, I believe he was pretty successful at Chelsea identifying players like Drogba and Essien. Not too certain how well known them two players were at that time though.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2016 09:19:10
He has found both hidden gems and also successful big signings as well, he identified both Drogba and Zola whilst at Chelsea and was part of Newcastle when everyone was raving about their recruitment.
He was and is extremely highly thought of by most in the game.
Koeman has always worked with a DoF so this is not a short term plan this is getting the best available manager we could attract and also doing the same with the sporting director role.
Personally if that is all we do this summer apart from a keeper then I am happy with that and the direction the club is going.
