Hey Degsypulford, how bout looking at things differently than glass half empty / full stuff. How about if Carlsberg done premiership draws Everton would be top of the table!

Yep us and Spurs way ahead with 8. Fine line alright. 7 points out of last 6 games is hiss poor return. Especially with the opposition we had. Capable of beating every one of them.

I agreed with your post earlier. I still do, the only thing is Martinez will never do them things. I'd be the most surprised person on earth if all that happens.

Happy if it does. No one happier than me if does.

Like I say. it is knife edge stuff. Football is weird. Let me explain in words of simple understanding: Leicester City! One or two signings have changed the fortunes of the club. Bottom and playing awful last season. Top and lost only 1 game this season. Are they a Carlsberg team, a half empty glass team or a glass half full team this season? I do agree that RM seems to be signing the wrong non scoring players and relies too much on Lukaku. see my other posts. but right now we have the potential with a couple of signings to have a great team. Changing the manager now would de-stabilise us I believe. Keep your pecker up mate. And pray every day! Miracles do happen.

Football is a funny old game. I see lots of opposing views on here. and I have had my say on lack of goal scorers within our squad, but we have still only lost 4 games in all competitions. The line between losing, drawing or winning is very fine. With one or two additions to our squad, we could be very succesful. In my opinion, the things we need to happen are: replace Howard with a dominant keeper of the box. Hold on to Lukaku and Stones. Play Naismith and Mirrallas more. Sign another forward playing midfielder who can open defences with a pass and score goals. If we had signed Mahrez, Bojan, Shaquiri or another creative midfielder and had a decent keeper. oh and practiced set pieces at BOTH ends, some of those draws would have been wins and we would be higher up the table. It is now up to the manager to ensure these things are dealt with and we do not lose Stones and Lukaku. We should let him do his job and see what happens. Change now would once again disrupt our club.

Well put Degsypulford, totally agree with all that. Problem is I can't see Martinez doing that. I hope to god he does. He seems very insistent on certain things. All last season he stuck to the same things.

I think its his reluctance to change that is his biggest downfall. I hope to god I'm wrong and he comes out and does what your saying.

Just seems like that's a pipe dream at the moment. As in him making them changes.

Hey Swan, its not often we fall out these days and I am not going to on this one but there are 2 ways of looking at things. glass half full or glass half empty. We have only lost 4 games all season or we have not beaten a top half side? My post suggests that if the things above happen then maybe we can beat the top half sides and creep up the table. Happy Christmas mate or bah humbug? your choice buddy.

Its a fine line.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Dec 2015 03:42:10
No not falling out mate. I just think those lines between winning and drawing are down to the manager and his team selection. Which IMO will cost him his job, or, I hope costs him his job. I think we need to play Joel, we need to play Mirallas and we need a manager who can sort us out in terms of set pieces. I'm usually negative but have been more positive this season, but that has gone now, especially the way Martinez isn't interested in changing anything. There isn't enough positives to outweigh the negatives. Here's why, IMO.

Positives
Good football.
Lukaku scoring, which says more about him then the team but whatever.
Only lost 4 games in all competitions.
Deulofeu.

Negatives
Tim Howard.
Drawing games we should be winning.
Set pieces.
Kevin Mirallas.
Poor home record the last 2 seasons.
Poor defending.
Not beaten a team in the top half of the table.
Arrogance of the manager.
Slipping further and further down the table each week.
Hypocritical planes.

Things only seem to be getting worse the deeper in to the season we go. Still have to travel to Anfield, King Power, Stamford Bridge, Etihad, Vicerage Road, Brittania, ST James and Selhurst Park. Still have Spurs, Arsenal and Stoke to play st home. At the moment I would be shocked if we win any of them, even more shocked if we didn't lose most of them.

Plus we are going out of the League Cup so another trophyless year for unambitious Everton. Add on to that the likely departures of Lukaku, Stones, Joel, Deulofeu and Mirallas.

Plus next seasons departures of Galloway and Besic.

No stadium news.

It won't be long before we have to accept that we will be a mid to bottom half of the table team. Like West Brom.

All that? I don't think the future is very bright for Evertonians.

Love it Swan. You and me are really peas from the same pod you know. that's how I usually feel. And I do agree with most of what you say. The only bit I disagree on is that I do think he is a bit more astute than we give him credit for. I hope he will see the light and address all the issues you list. Except for the arrogance bit. I hope he drops Howard. Plays Joel. Signs an even better keeper. Signs some new attacking midfielder. Finds a Barry replacement. Practices set pieces at both ends. Then uses the arrogance to ram everything down every red fan's mouth. COYB.

Very interesting season, probably due to the increased TV revenue we now have teams like Leicester, Crystal Palace and even Watford who have strengthened their teams and even those teams further down the league are difficult to beat. So, how can we compete and get into a European spot?
Firstly the manager has to be ruthless, it's pretty obvious to most that Howard is a liability and should be replaced. Secondly if a system is not working it needs to be changed. Playing Kone week after week is not giving us the attacking presence we need to back up Lukaku and neither is playing Barkley so deep. The opposition has us sussed out before we start a game. For goodness sake Martinez let's see plan B for a change, just playing pretty football is only one element of a successful side, we also need some wins.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

20 Dec 2015 15:16:07

6 points off top 4 at Christmas and u want the management sacked and half the squad crucified! Come on lads brighten up, yes too many draws but that could b rectified by simply swapping out keepers, if he changes Howard for Joel we r top 4.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

20 Dec 2015 14:43:31
That's a big IF johny89. Would love for it to happen. Unfortunately just can't see Martinez doing it.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Dec 2015 15:21:36
I think it is a bit naive to suggest a change of keeper will change our fortunes johny89, for me that is just papering over the cracks. The buck stops with the manager and how he sets his teams up. RM is just not tactically astute enough, he stubbornly continues to play tippy tappy football across the back line even when we are behind in a game. He has no plan B to fall back on and that is not good enough at this level. We have a talented squad yet the manager is not getting the best out of them. For the record, I didn't want him because he took a team down. He blagged me in his 2nd season but we seem to have gone backwards since despite having some very good players.
We may only be 6 points off the top four but only because other teams are trying their best not to reach them heights themselves. It's certainly a strange league this season.
I said earlier in the season that we should see how we are getting on come xmas time. Now that time is upon us I think we can judge RM and the direction he is taking us. So let's judge him. He has made some good decisions in the market but has also bought some crap. Tactically he, for me, is inept as he is stubborn. He continues to pick players to start who need time out of the team and his substitutions are nearly always too late. I could go on! I just don't think he has, bar his first season, taken us any further than the previous manager. I don't think he can improve us any more either, unless he drastically changes his 'philosophy' so for me I think it is inevitable that he won't be here for the long haul. I'd rather change it sooner than later, not leave it until we fall further down the league.

Agree1 Disagree2

20 Dec 2015 16:30:08
I agree with most of that spudv. But wouldn't changing the keeper be a step in the right direction? You only have to look at my other posts to see I'm not Martinez's biggest fan but overall I think he's signings have been good.

There obviously was some he would of been better off without. Alcaraz being an obvious one. Overall he done good in transfer market imo.

It's the management of the team and tactics I have a problem with Martinez. And obviously his team selection also. He's good in some areas then terrible in others.

It's looking like he hasn't a long future at Everton at the moment.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2015 16:56:12
As you know, NBTB, I'm not a big fan of Joel either! It may be a step in the right direction with regards to him not playing his favourites I'll agree with you there. I just don't believe that changing the keeper will bring about the drastic change in tactics that is so obviously lacking. His first season was exciting, we played some great football but teams have worked us out leaving us to play the ball from one full back to the other via the cb's and keeper. It's so tedious to watch.
He has bought some very good players but wasted cash on others, whether that be for a fee or wages for a free transfer. That can be levelled at most managers I suppose. All said and done, I'm with you when you say he hasn't got a long term future with EFC.

Agree0 Disagree1

20 Dec 2015 17:23:12
Sorry spudv, forgot you don't rate Joel. He's worth the punt imo. Try him out I say. He'll either sink or swim. If he sinks then a new keeper is needed asap.

If he swims, everyone wins! Point is we won't know until he's tried out.

I agree it wouldn't sort everything out but it is a vital cog in the wheel to fix. There's no quick fix for everything. New keeper be it Joel or whoever would be welcomed by all.

Credit where credit is due Martinez signed Del boy, Lukaku, Barry, McCarthy and Mori which I don't think anyone can say failed in any way. Then you have Clev, Kone, Lennon, Besic and Joel. Not bad signings either imo. Come to think of it Alcaraz is the only player signed by Martinez that I don't rate.

Maybe I'm missing some. No doubt if I did someone will bring it up. Not many managers only sign one bad player in three years.

I'm not standing up for Martinez just saying his recruitment is good. Pity about his team selection and tactics.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2015 17:36:47
NBTB, McGeady?

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2015 17:49:09
Add AM to that list too! Alcaraz, as you mentioned. Kone has only had a handful of decent games since arriving. Cleverly not seen enough of him to judge but was awful yesterday. Joel has had a few games when he has looked good but also a few that didn't inspire me with any confidence but hasn't had much of a look in to be fair. Besic another who he has signed but doesn't want to give him game time. As I said, all managers have a hit and miss transfer policy, not every player will settle with no problems.
I think a better man manager would be able to get the best out of this squad but also someone who has a clue when it comes to picking teams and tactics.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2015 19:06:48
O, how could I forget McGeady. Ok him and Alcaraz bad signings. Apart from the obvious good ones the rest are debatable therefore not terrible imo. Besic imo will be a very good player. We are very strong in his position.

I totally agree spudv managers have a hit and miss record with signings. You can't say Martinez was bad at recruiting players? Can you?

I totally agree with your last line spudv 100%. Read it again yourself and do you know who I think could do exactly that? The one and only David Moyes!

I know not everyone would agree with that. He certainly knows how to get the most out of teams and was good enough at tactics and picking teams.

Agree0 Disagree1

21 Dec 2015 00:49:01
Moyes' tactics sucked. Against anyone half decent he played 10 men behind the ball, had the centre forward run about nowhere near the goal mouth and hoped that 90 minutes of long clearances would sneak a draw.
At times he didn't even bother with a centre forward and those that played well he destroyed in season 2. His subs were often baffling as well. Its funny how over time people forget.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Dec 2015 03:44:18

What is wrong with everyone. This is a young emerging side who will learn from every game. Are we getting hammered in every game NO are we playing good football YES we are just making silly mistakes at the back with the two YOUNG centre halves who are still learning. As for Mirrallas he has never given us 90 minutes of football since he arrived. and yes I do think he is a good player but he is not a team player. and I would rather watch a team.

Alanthomo we are conceding far too easily. We're starting to look very similar to Wigan. Look what happened to them. The did win the FA cup but got relegated and look at them now.

Martinez must be the only person with anything to do with Everton who thinks Howard is our best keeper.

Agree0 Disagree5

20 Dec 2015 13:36:05
Cobyone you do realise we only have won one game in our last six in premiership? People are hardly thinking we should win every game so. Too many draws against bottom of the table teams.

Agree2 Disagree0

20 Dec 2015 14:31:42
10th in the league, 3 points out of our last four. 2 newly promoted sides and 2 sides usually fighting relegation. These young players will all be off, no ambition from the club. Football is irrelevant, not taking our chances and conceding too many.

Cobyone, which goals?

Liverpool-Ings header inside his 6 yard area, should be doing better.

City-Lobbed by Nasri easily and beaten at near post by Kolarov.

Utd-2 Headers he should be stopping.

Palace-Should stop cross in 6 yard area, just had to stand still to save the header.

Leicester-Giving away penalty and beat at near post again, starfish from corner.

Norwich-Poor cross again.

Bournemouth-Another header inside his 6 yard area.

Arsenal-2 crosses any decent keeper doesn't let get inside his area.

West Brom-Near post header 4 yards out.

Sunderland-No action or movement to attempt to stop the cross.

14 goals off the top of my head I expect a Goalkeeper to stop one way or another.

Howard fans are beyond blindly loyal.

Not good enough this season, anyone thinking we are not underachieving has a small club mentality.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2015 17:52:55
No one thinks we should win every game but we are massively underachieving this season. We have a decent squad and should have at least 6 more points.

The Premier league title is wide open this season never mind the top 4. Us along with a few other teams should be benefiting from the inconsistency of the sky 4. Just like Leicester are doing we should be pushing on up the league.

As for Tim Howard he is a liability and if anyone can't see that they are just blind! That includes Martinez and his management team. Howard was never more than an average keeper at his best. He is way below that now and i'd like to analyse his stats for the past 2-3 seasons and not through his career which he keeps using as an excuse fir being so bad. He came off his line yesterday (first time all year) and conceded a penalty.

I asked a question on here a few weeks ago directed at fans of Howard to explain what good he brings to the team, no-one answered. Does anyone think he should start our next game and why?

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2015 11:53:39
If YOU was the owner of Everton what would you do at this moment would you sack the manager or would you keep him and give him a good talking to if you did sack him who would you bring in and when would you do it all these questions must be going through the owners minds at the moment do if it was YOU what would you do.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

20 Dec 2015 12:12:26
Would ask why when something isn't really working do you not change it for four games on the bounce. If no satisfactory answer then sack him because he is obvious unaware that this isn't good enough or what is expected of this great club . Are YOU saying that everything is going well Skylark, or would YOU make changes.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2015 12:20:45
I'd ask RM what on earth he is thinking sticking with Tim Howard. Why Mirallas is out the team, why he insists on ignoring set pieces, because he thinks they are beneath him. Then I'd sack him, because no excuse in the world works for either of those 3 questions. I don't know who I would go for to be honest, in a dream world Mourinho.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2015 12:21:32
Who would be the replacement? That's the problem for me. Right now I can't think of a realistic replacement who is either available or would want to come to us. That leaves little room to maneuver. I'd certainly tell him time to start practicing set pieces and look for a new keeper ASAP!

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2015 12:25:19

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Dec 2015 13:11:45
Agree with pod there not many options for me I also think unless we could bring in a top manager to replace Martinez then you could certainly kiss goodbye to many of this squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2015 12:56:23
I'd leave Martinez until the end of the season unless the results continue or get worse. In that scenario the only manager I can think of is Moyes.

I think Moyes would excel with this squad. It is more attacking than he ever had. You'd know for sure he'd sort out the defense and make us very hard to break down or score against.

Then the attack could benefit from that. Which should contribute a lot to gaining more points. I honestly think our attack don't need much coaching or time to work on. If the defense is sorted then everything will fall into place. Especially the attacking threat of the team.

Moyes couldn't leave Del boy, Barkley, Mirallas and Lukaku out of the team. There would be too much of a rebellion from the fans and he'd know that.

Imagine them 4 playing with a solid unit at the back. We'd be a much better team than now. The team is getting more and more like the way Martinez was like with Wigan.

Initially I was doubting Martinez and was worried about the leaking of goals and the relegation which happened at Wigan. Then he kind of grew on me. I wish I stuck to my initial opinion. I said I'd wait till the end of season for my full opinion on Martinez.

Still a while to go till May but at this stage the anger towards Martinez is growing and its his own doing. Especially insisting on playing Howard. I said it many weeks ago he's insistence on playing Howard could cost him his job. Looks like it will be a big contributing factor if things keep going the way they are.

Ed 033 I think it is. You have a green wizard as your picture. You were dead right a good few weeks back. When things were going well you said Martinez is not the type of manager to get a team into champions league. At this stage you look to be 100% correct.

Duncansmum you never liked Martinez and your a big fan of Moyes. I was the exact same as you but then I slightly got sucked into Martinez way. You were dead right all along duncansmum. Get Moyes back. At least we would be consistent.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed033's Note - Everton have a pretty good team this year and with the usual top 4 teams being poor so far, Everton have a good chance of getting in the top 4, or they would if they had a capable manager

20 Dec 2015 13:44:21
That's beginning to look very true Ed 033!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed033's Note - i wonder whether Everton FC actually swapped Moyes for a poorer overall manager.

20 Dec 2015 13:53:43
your right ed we have the best team we have had in a long time, a lot of prem teams would love to have a lot of are players, we are still only 6 points of top 4 so all is not lost YET but this manager is too stubborn to listen to us fans when we mention kone and howard, if he listens now and drops kone and howard for robles and mirrales the top 4 can still be achievable what you think ed.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed033's Note - achievable yes, i was just originally pointing out that i think top 4 is not achievable under Martinez, you'll just have to wait and see though.

20 Dec 2015 15:37:47
Never thought Everton swapped for a better manager. At this stage looks like we have swapped for a worse manager.

Corny we are 6 points away from Champions league. We're also 6 points off 17th or even 18th if Swansea win.

With the top 4 losing more than usual Moyes would of took advantage of that this season imo. Certainly wouldn't lose a 3 - 0 advantage to who we did. Would of done better than 7 points from our last 18 points. Especially with the opposition we had.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2015 17:54:50
Have you all forgotten, Moyes walked out on us and tried to take our best players, then said Everton where holding players back, Don't think I could take another 10 years of him, but you are right he is a better manager than Roberto but who isn't?

Wonder if any one else has noticed, but if Swansea win today, we are as much in the relegation fight as a top four (that's a joke) place. Is BK calling the shots at the moment, if not who. Martinez is a fraud whose loyalty to his favourites will totally ruin this team. We have a spine of extremely talented players who are capable of taking us to another level, but unfortunately some will not be given the chance. I can see an exodus in the summer. Martinez was the same at Wigan they couldn't defend either. What's the solution? Get rid of Martinez and replace with who? Bring back Moyes as short term - at least we would start defending -, or give the job to Dunc and Rhino with Joe Royle as the elder statesman. Need action fast.

Swan you are on a rampage. Your giving out about everyone. I understand your upset. It shows how passionate a fan you are like moat if not all on this site. I agree with a fair bit of what you say. But all your posts recently are giving out about everyone. There is 0 positivity and 100% negativity.

I see below you slated McCarthy. What is that about? He hasn't even been playing for weeks. In case you haven't noticed things started going downhill badly since McCarthy is out. He gets no recognition for what he does for the team. His work rate is as good as anyone I've ever seen.

The amount of pressure he puts on the opposition with his pressing them whenever they have the ball goes unrecognized by the majority of supporters.

You have continually backed Martinez in the past. I said I was on the fence until the end of the season. Martinez himself said he'd get us into champions league. On that basis if he doesn't achieve it at the end of his third season he has to go.

Yet now your slating him more than I ever did. After the first 10 games I was buying into Martinez with how well he done in the first 10 games. Thinking that he'd do a lot better with these latest fixtures. How wrong was I.

I don't agree with a lot of Martinez decisions. Namely playing Howard and not playing Mirallas. But I'm not going to start bad mouthing him and callng for his head.

I'm not standing up for Martinez but I do think to be sure of making the right decision he should be left until the end of the season. Unless the results continue to be bad.

Id love to see Moyes back with the squad we have. Martinez like Wigan seems to concentrate on attacking and doesn't seem to do much with defense seeing he doesn't practice corners and the amount of goals that gets leaked.

Moyes on the other hand would have the defense in shape and well organised. With the attacking players we have they would sort themselves out with little practice. I believe Moyes would thrive and the team thrive under Moyes. Because he would concede less goals and the attack would be just as good if not better than it I under Moyes.

Swan I'm not getting personal and I'm not attacking you. You have every right to your opinion. Just a bit of positivity or one solution rather than just slating everyone.

How much would it cost to cut Martinez loose I just don't see what the club can achieve with this guy. I would love a fresh start with a new manager but even if we finish 15th I bet he is still in charge next season there seems be no pressure at all on him never is his job questioned by the media this is just wrong please someone stand up on this board and make a stand.

Perhaps finally fans are starting to come to their senses . I have been criticised on a few occassions on here re my stance about RM but he just not up to the job. Unfortunately in the latest he not even in the running.
He is a stubborn man with no man management and no plan b . perhaps more time on the pitch for Mirralas would have made a difference. The treatment of Robles after 3 clean sheets was a disgrace also. trouble is this board are more than happy with were we are and nothing will alter .

its a big call but I would give big dunc the chance to prove himself can you just picture him now with his passion and drive instead of robbie standing there with his arms crossed, lets face it we are to inconsistant to finish in top 4 and we won't be relagated so why not can u imagine dunc in the dressing room if anyone fails to show passion or will to win. also are goalkeeping coach looks like a bloke from the homeless shelter near were I live.

Might be of the mark here, but on paper and the way other so called big teams are struggling does anyone else feel that we should be comfortably challenging to be top 4.We have a good squad, just that joke of manager seems content on driving players like Mirrales, Naismith, Robles out of the club by not giving them a chance.

Can I just raise a point that I don't believe has been bantered on?
John Stones, brilliant eh and people saying he's worth £40m+.
But isn't he in the centre of a defence that shows as much strength as a chocolate fireguard?
I know we can't blame him solely but, oh I don't know would be interested in opinions.

Composed on the ball has positional awareness that mocks his age and experience so erm sorry no I would not be even considering faulting the lad. I believe with a keeper that the defence has confidence in and a midfield that actually functions then we wouldn't be conceding nowere near the amount of goals we have.

Bluegray I have to agree. Stones is a class act. He is still only 21 ish, so is still learning. as has been said before, if we had a strong keeper, oh to have Southall or martyn, the defence would have confidence to play their natural game. This can be the only reason Coleman isn't rampaging down the flank like he used to.

Also rumours of 20 Mil yarmolenko to us. I would break the bank for him and a keeper like butland and boot Kone and Tim (super servant but reached the end now) out.

The way Vardy went round Stones yesterday was ridiculous, yes the lad is young but he is high on Englands list and has enough experience under his belt to have sussed that move out. The Chelsea valuation was in their view the correct one and in all honesty I cannot disagree.

Duncansmum I thought yesterday about stones.
He is good on the ball and does good tackles but. £40m now i'd chomp there hand off.
He gets caught out and posistionally gets its wrong just the media love him and it masks his errors.

20 mil on a world class defender and then buy nolito!

Bobby loves howard, why I don't know.
He is out of his depth and should return to usa.
Butland for me is one of the best young keepers in europe.
Would he join from stoke? Doubt it.

Look at my other post about RM signing non scoring players to replace ones that have regularly scored. interesting to see the 3 players rumoured to be leaving are Naismith, Mirrallas and Lukaku. Need I say more? Been saying it for 2 years now.

is it me or has Kone been utter rubbish since getting his new contract extension agreed? Tells you all you need to know I reckon! If I was chairman of Efc, I'd get shot of this Spanish person.

as nice a bloke as he is, he will get us no higher than mid-table or 10th place in the premier league at very best for every season he's in charge and i'd break the bank and get Jose Mourinho in or nab Ranieri at the end of the season. had enough of our constant under achieving and pathetic excuses from the gaffer match after match, we should be doing much better!

We have no chance of Mourinho, he wants the Utd job or Real probably. We aren't a big club so he will definitely go to one of them. Why would Ranieri leave a Leicester side in the Champions League? To come to a club with worse fans, stadium, owners and competitions to play in.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Dec 2015 01:37:15
There is no chance of Mourinho - zero. Look at the clubs he manages. We're not even close to that level. Ranieri is improbable too. If Leicester carry on like this then he'll be managing in European competition with Thai owners who will back him financially.

If they collapse we won't want him anyway. I agree with you about Martinez though - he's not good enough, never has been and never will be. I don't see who his natural replacement is though.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed033's Note - Ranieri has proved so far that with a capable manager and players that want to give everything, then sometimes it's possible to get into the top 4 and get into the champions league with a team that usually finishes outside the top 4.

20 Dec 2015 02:34:57
You're spot on ed. Ranieri has shown what ordinary players can do if you encourage them. We have it all, just not the manager to do it.
