Worst performance I can remember for a longtime. I actually said to my mate we played better than this under moyes. I've written off the league and qualifying for europe now this season. The second half was a disgrace they did not look like a side who had been given a b*****ing at half time, probably becuase they weren't. My worry now is how we persuade the likes of mirralas and mccarthy to sign new contracts when the team looks like it is going backwards. Just hope the long trips upto newcastle and hull will be worth it.

I remember doing a post about playerd i'd get rid of, I remember someone saying its not that easy. Well, there are players that either no longer have it, never had it or don't care. So, imo, howard, joel, hibbert, jagielka, distin, baines, osman, mcgeady and pienaar all need to be moved on one way or another. Howard, osman, pienaar, mcgeady, joel and hibbert are all awful. Distin and jagielka are finished. Baines doesn't actually do anything anymore, can't cross, can't beat a man, doesn't stop crosses and has a phobia of tackling. Garbutt is already better, play him and bryan, who appreciates us fans, loves the club and is a boss player. Get rid of leighton 'no end product' baines. We should of got rid in the summer, if results don't improve after the january window, martinez has to go. Relegation is a possibility, don't doubt it

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i dont doubt it for a minute swan, but a couple of them could stay imo, jags and baines need a good kick up the arse but can still do a job, and i still believe ossie still has something to offer...but thats just my opinion mate..

Swan, the problem with just getting rid of players is you have to have others ready to step in and take their places who are better. Whilst I agree that some of the players you mention need replacing, as yet we don't seem to have these replacements lined up. Until we have them ready, we have to continue with what we have. I take your point on Garbutt. He has shown some promise and Baines does seem to be losing his way. I do feel that Roberto keeps playing these number 10's which we have already agreed do not work. ie Barkley, Naismith and Eto'o in the same team. I also feel Lukaku looks half the player without Mirallas on the pitch. I agree we might be in a relegation fight. Mainly because in the 5 games we have won, we could have lost 2 of them quite easily. I really feel that we are missing McCarthy too. Besic looked good against QPR, but in my opinion, that was his only decent game for us. against a team that has so far not registered a single away point. I know we are all bitterly disappointed right now. let's hope our injury list clears and we move onwards and upwards. Right now it feels like we have gone backwards.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Dec 2014 07:52:53
Absolute crap Swan. While Garbutt should turn out to be a good player, to say he is better than Baines is ridiculous in the extreme. All well and good saying 'let's get rid of him and him and him' but, as Degsy points out, you need replacements as the squad is thread bare as it stands. Forgetting about the money for one minute, you want 9 players out so that should be close to 9 players in. Then they will be expected to hit the ground running and gel immediately! The cost would be great with signing on and transfer fees. You need to look at the bigger picture mate. There is a common denominator in why all these players have not reached the required levels, the buck always stops with one man. RM himself. This possession game is no longer effective, teams know how we are going to play. Let us have the ball without creating and then score with practically their first shot. He needs to find a plan b, and soon, if we want to compete with the other teams for a top 4 finish (obviously that is beyond us this season) He needs to start earning his wages, grow a set and let the players know it isn't good enough rather than being nice in interviews. Dropping big players will send out the right message to the rest. Pass the ball around but look to create openings rather than go back to TH. Obviously, RM should be given the time to set this right but, if it's still the same 10 games in to next season then BK will have some big decisions to make. No doubt we have regressed this season but did we not overachieve last year? Maybe, because we played so well, we are being too critical right now. Come on Swan, get some perspective

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - good post that spud, i know there has been a lot of doubt about his leadership in recent weeks but we still have a lot of really good players at the club, they are lacking direction and confidence at the moment, and your right its up to bobby to sort it out as a matter of urgency..

21 Dec 2014 21:02:53
Ed25 RM needs to read the comments from the Banter forum. Whilst I appreciate he has a coaching licence but qualifications are meaningless unless you know how to apply the knowledge. Nor is watching various team matches on 3 or 4 tv's most nights a guarantee that you understand the tactics of the opposition.
Most bloggers on this site have 'hit the nail on the head' in terms of what and where our problems are, so why can't RM and his coaching staff?
One thing is for sure it's the height of foolishness to believe employing the same tactics and team set up will yield improved results.
Come on Roberto wake up and smell the coffee before the desperation associated with the downward spiral sucks us into a potential relegation issue.
And just a look at the table shows points wise we are nearer the bottom than the top!!

Ed do you think Martinez has lost the dressing room, cause there is something seriously wrong with the team at the minute, but he will be ok cause Kenwright doesn't have the balls to sack him he is too nice and happy go lucky but he needs to speak to Martinez and quick before we get in too deep.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - im no psychologist stef, but in my opinion the guy is too nice, some of these prima-donnas in our dressing room need the hairdryer treatment if you ask me, these are the same players who went to the emirates and old trafford and played the home side off the park!, at times they dont seem to be arsed..

20 Dec 2014 23:15:51
New or permanent contracts speak volumes. We have permanently signed barry and lukaku who have looked a shadow of themselves from previous seasons. Added to that extensions to what we thought were important players, but it's our fringe players who are performing this season, besic, naismith and etoo. Barry is too slow and either caught on the ball or not quick enough to cover. get rid, lukaku needs to sit on the bench and learn how to hold up the ball, play kone or etoo up there in the meantime. Its apparent to everyone of us that ross etoo and naismith can not play in the same team if selected in the three attacking midfielders as we lose all of our width, why can roberto who by all accounts says he is methodical in his analysis not see this. I would certainly have set up differently today than rm did. Teamsheet I would have selected bearing in mind who was available:- gk howard, rb coleman, cb jags, cb alcaraz, lb garbutt, cdm besic, cm barkley, rm etoo, cam naismith, lm baines, cf kone

Before you all start having a go at me, please understand that this post is about concern and not David Moyes!
In the latter stages of Moyes' reign, we were playing very attractive football and coming quite close to winning a trophy. We were dominating other teams, but suffered by drawing too many games. We also struggled against the "top 4".
Martinez came in and initially we continued to play very attractive football and for the first time, we seemed to do well against the "top 4". With the signing of Lukaku we had a center forward who managed a goal every other game and the future looked bright. This season started and our pre-season was amateurish. We had a run of bad injuries too. My main concern was that we were not playing the decisive football that we had in previous seasons. We have made signings and some of them in my opinion are not up to scratch. I believe we have gone backwards and rather than challenging for the top 4 or Europe, we will be lucky to get mid table. We have only won 5 premier league games and to be honest, we didn't deserve to win 2 of them! We pass the ball around for so long until we lose possession without having a cutting edge. I am now starting to believe that we will have to look for another manager next season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

''we will have to look for another manager next season''

I really hope so Degsy.

I can't stand the sight of the Catalan Clown now. Our Wiganification is continuing at full speed.

I hated Moyes more than anyone, yet the Catalan Clown has somehow made me end up missing him. I never thought that would ever be possible.

When the footballl was better under the specialist in failure, then you know you have problems.

I'm sure Moyes is available on short notice. Heck, bring Felli back. at least he had an edge, a temper, and would at least mix things up.

Maybe Moyes 2.0 with better players? McCarthy, Besic, an older Barkley, and a raw yet clumsy Lukaku.

even Benitez would be worth a shot (just kidding I hope)

I was thinking about this last week and can anyone actually remember the last time we scored from a corner?. The only time I can remember us scoring from a corner is lukaku against liverpool last season, and is that the only time under Martinez we've actually scored from a corner?. Our conversation rate is a disgrace considering how many corners we've had. I think Bobby needs to think about adapting his style of play now to be more rounded rather than pass, pass, pass and lose 3-0. Please mix it up a bit please Bobby before it's too late.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i think it was lukaku today gibbo....pity his radar went awry..

We don't practice corners. That is a fact. The Catalan Clown admitted it last season, he said something along the lines of 'I don't like scoring from set pieces, I prefer to score from open play, it means more'

We may as well just kick it out for a goal kick if that is his attitude to it.

I remember reading Martinez' statement about preferring to 'score from open play as it is means more.' I honestly believe we do not practise corners and free kicks at all now. Maybe that is why we are conceding so many goals from dead ball situations. If the management team cannot see we need to practise dead ball defending & attacking then they all need to go.

The premier league is a physical league and ALL teams rely on dead balls. Surely someone from the back room staff must have the courage to say to RM about this. We have one of the best headers of a ball ever sitting on our bench (DF). Surely he could do some extra work with the the team at training.

Christmas has been ruined for all of us now, let's just hope Boxing Day brings us some joy. Merry Christams to everyone and the all the Eds.

Holy Crap! What was that?

The team is not filled with a bunch of near-do wells and has beens (okay a few). This team would have a tough time with the expansion Orlando MLS team that hasn't played a game yet.

Slow passes, feet of lead, no spark.

Sergio Garcia's old swing was faster than Everton, and at least he could hit is solid and straight.

Over here NBC shows clips of the last week's scoring during half time. Yeah, all three of our shots against QPR bounced off somebody.

Other teams have fast passes, men cutting to the goal, guys going airborne to head the ball in the net.

None of this million passes to lull your opponent to sleep.

Its coaching. Yeah there are injuries, but darn it, every team gets that bug.

Can we get big Vic back? Play Kone, Oveido, Garbutt, the team mascot.

And can someone learn how to put blazing laser beam low line drive corner kicks into the darn box?

Yes, angry Yank venting about 90 minutes of time I could have spent weeding the yard.

The weeds grow faster than Everton.
Toffee actually oozes faster than Everton.

Okay, at least no top teams on the menu until Man City.

Ooops, at the rate we're going they'll all be top teams.

Okay I feel like Swan today.

Soton lost 5 on the bounce before today but to get your season up & running just play Martinez softies & you'll be back to winning ways.
Burnley & Sheffield Utd beat the saints in recent weeks against a much stronger Soton team who had no fewer than 7 regulars missing today.Doesn't say much about our performance then lol.
No one pushing Howard either for the no 1 spot & he himself said this week it could be a long road back for Mignolet to get his jersey back from Brad Jones, Maybe he needs to look @ his own performances because @ this rate won't be too long before he himself is going to be replaced.
Oh what would we give for another Neville Southall between the sticks, gave the defence confidence & commanded his area & took the ball, player & whatever else he could @ the same time.He was world class.
Howard think on b4 U tread same path as Mignolet.

A heavy defeat as Soton reserves took us to the cleaners & deservedly so.
Lost 3 on the bounce away @ Spurs, city & again today.
We look more like Wigan every week 2 easy & 2 open 2 play against with no plan B.
Can now see how Lukaku couldn't get into mourhino's Chelsea team lazy like Yakubu doesn't put a shift in.
Mourhino said thanks very much & snapped Kenwrights hand off to tune of 28 million lol.
Charlie Austin cost Qpr 4 million quid & showed lukaku how it's done with a super hatrick today.
The golden oldies eto barry & distin have slowed us down & we look lethargic no energy.
We are now closer to bottom 6 than top 6 lol going backwards & sinking fast.
There was me thinking the red rubbish were struggling but have Sturridge back soon & no doubt will strengthen their striking options in Jan transfer window & we'll remain mid table because in truth were no better than that from what I've witnessed so far this season.

That was king rubbish, team selection was king awful, passing and defending king atrocious, a keeper who can't move off his line, and he recons we'll have a job replacing him, is that the first time a team getting beat and not one substitution, that for me is pathetic. After the game, Martinez told the BBC: "Very disappointing. A game with nothing between the two sides apart from ourselves not being able to defend the six-yard box better.

"It is about how we defended the six-yard box, the other two goals were the same. They didn't have to do much to score three goals. It was not a case of them being superior to us, it is just we were very soft.

"I do feel we need to find a good run of performances. I don't think the performance was too far away from what you need to get good results."

sry rm but we are miles away on that performance. more balance, more cutting edge, more urgency, better control and passing of the ball and defend much much better. then we won't be far away!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i agree with you TB..

I'm fed up with all the "should have", "could have", "what if" excuses that RM trots out - we lost (and deservedly so to a team weakened by injuries & suspensions and in a bad run of results). RM's positivity was a welcome change from DM, but football is results business, so RM had better prove that "he's the right one, the bright one".
BK will no doubt want to be as loyal to RM as Sir Philip Carter was to Howard Kendall back in 1983, but today's financial pressures make it more difficult to risk misguided loyalty and also make it a real leap, of faith to trust that matters will be turned around.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree toffeeblue. You can fool the people some of the time etc etc etc or whatever the saying is.Mate bobby was a breath of fresh air last season, our play and tempo where quick and exciting .This season we've gone backwards and our style of play has slowed and drags on longer than my dog dragging its ar*e across the carpet.

right, I don't even care if i'm going over the top, i'm fed up now were half way in to the season and we've had about 3 good games? ITS POOR AND SHOCKING. martinez needs to understand basic football, if your not going to play with any wingers, then don't play a formation that requires wingers! its basic football knowledge? i'm sure a 7 year old can understand that! TOP FOUR CONTENDERS? WERE NOT EVEN TOP HALF CONTENDERS AT THE MINUTE! boxing day against stoke, drop some of the lackluster performers, lukaku barry baines and distin all need dropping, barkley and besic back in the centre again with naismith in behind eto'o/kone lukaku needs to realise even though he is the record signing, no one is guaranteed a starting place at the club, fuming.

I see my error of yesterday, silly to let a little optimism set in. Shocking display, every bit as bad as the qpr game. We are going to have to scrape away from the relegation fight. The season just goes from bad to worse, not good enough.

20 Dec 2014 17:15:27
Today wasn't good enough. After playing brilliantly vs QPR I would've thought that the Bešić Barkley partnership would've remained. How clueless does that make me? Barry was brought in again and was woeful, Barkley was ineffective on the wing (I wonder why? Oh yeah he isn't a winger) and today again proved you can't play 4 number 10s. Thanks roberto and Everton for ruining my mood just before Christmas. Merry Christmas to all Eds and posters, hope you feel happier than me

Knee-jerk reaction:
We're playing against a team that's suffered five straight defeats and are missing many key experienced players due to suspension and injury, but we cave in to a 0-3 defeat and it could have been a lot worse. What's the excuse today? It surely can't have been tiredness this time! It's no secret - our players are just not good enough and our tactics are too easy for the opposition to counteract. With all due respect to RM, I don't want any post-match bo****ks trying to rationalise the result - just admit that we were well beaten by a superior team on the day. Is it second season syndrome for RM? I welcomed RM's appointment as our manager- and I still want him to be a success - but imho he must get our season back on track asap or it'll fizzle out into midtable mediocrity (surely not any worse than that!) and the inevitable (well, we are Everton, aren't we!) cup exits.
The glass that was already "half empty" is now rapidly draining and RM needs to work hard and fast to make it "half full" let alone filling to the brim that last season seemed to promise.
Final thought: while our players seem prone to hamstring injuries, our fans must be damaging ligaments with all the knee-jerks that we're having this season.
It's certainly a blue Crimbo - but that's blue as in depressed, not blue as in Everton :-(

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i think im in for an interesting evening sid..wish me luck...

Good post that Cowpat and I endorse your comments totally.
I thought that after QPR on Monday that we'd regalvanise against a team who, as you say we're missing key players through injury and suspension and having just lost 5 on the bounce. But that second half was poor. Outplayed and outfought in midfield with nothing to show up front. 0-3 was flattering as they could have scored more.
The next 3 games over the Christmas period are now going to be crucial. We badly need a fit James McCarthy, John Stones and Kevin Miralles in the side and if first choice regulars need to be dropped, then so be it.
Seriously pissed off tonight!

I have been a massive Bobby supporter from day 1, but I now no longer believe that he is the man to take us forward, I believe its time for him to go! this is not a game renching reaction.

This season our players have not been prepared properly, they are un-fit, un motivated, our approach to games has been shocking at best, we are one dimensional and easy to play against! Our tactics have left me scratching me head, we have no balance and no direction, Bobby is un able to change the direction of games, and is afraid to drop certain players!

The last 6-8 weeks have been a complete shambles, we have players who can not pass the ball 5 yards, we have the 2 most exciting full backs in Europe who have no become anonymous, we play the same way every week. We are unable to attack or defend set pieces,! I actually turned the game off today, that's how bad we were, I am now genuinely concerned about relegation,!!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - he needs to turn it around kurajan....and quick, or your not the only one who will be saying that mate..

Having started this season in high expectation of progressing after last season's refreshing football, I'm now of a mind (admittedly twisted by today's debacle) to take finishing 17th in the Premier League, going out of the cups without being humiliated, and just regrouping for next season.

zaki, I sorta feel the same, I was not convinced he was the man for the job, and even though we had record points last season, this season would show if he has what it takes, when he went to wigan, first season was the same record Finnish first year, then teams sussed them out and they struggled every season after, same is happening now, playing 2 cam's out wide wtf is he playing at I don't know who was on bench but if we had no wide players available then 433 is the way to go, with barry, barkley and besic in mid, with either of cone head, naisy lakaku ( who need to take some serious ball control practice ) & eto'o. the team needs balance rm's tactics have left us with none on many occasions this season.
one other thing, we need wingers and players with pace in jan, it ok having all the ball but we have no penetration at all.

oh and we need another goal kepper, howard makes way too many mistakes now, first 2 goals today for eg mid height right next to him, and hardly rockets!!

It always ends in tears for Everton managers - theirs and ours ;-)

This is not a knee jerk reaction but my god were soo bad it's unreal. No drive, responsibility or passion from anyone.
Coleman is lost baines is awful Barry is tired, defence is all over the place and as for barkley and lukaku, my jess christ.
Martinez is clueless just stood there bewildered, I seriously fear we could be in a relegation battle .

I think that (make that "hope that"!) there will be three worse teams that will finish below us come the end of the season, but we were expecting so more after last season's refreshing performances.

Can I just say i'm embarrassed to have howard and distin at our club, neither would get in leicesters team never mind ours. Its disgusting, put stanek or griffiths in until january and get stones in asap, if not then play alcaraz, both are on another level to distin. Perfectly winnable game that we should of won, instead we make a fool of ourselves yet again. Once we are out the europa league (and believe me young boys will knock us out of it) can we forfeit the season as a whole and write it off? We are the laughing stock of the country at the moment, everton, letting fans down since 1878

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends - the show that is Everton so often promising good times ahead and then dashing the fans' hopes with regular displays (like today) of ineptitude and always failing when tantalisingly on the brink of consistent success.

{Ed025's Note - they should print that on the season tickets sid..

75 mins, 2-0 down to an awful Southampton side, we've had one shot on target and still nothing from bobby!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Shocking still no subs

Agree0 Disagree0

RM should read up on what the German navy did in WW1 and WW2 - they clearly made effective use of subs ;-)

jagielka and distin r terrified of long and pele everytime the ball goes near them they r all over the place shocking and y was eto not subbed at halftime doing nothin .Boring boring tik a taka football so so predictable teams r now lookin forward to playin everton as they no its an easy touch pass back pass back that's all they do ahhhhh

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Heaven knows why we are playing 3 numbers 10's behind the striker.shouldn't of changed the team from qpr game, apart from mirallas.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Whether we were playing three number 10s - or ten number 3s - is irrelevant when the team is giving a performance that's a load of number twos!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - love it sid...he was the bright one..now hes the s***e one..thats martinez.. :)

Half time and its a terrible game. Southampton have had a lot of luck, all of it bad. The ref has favoured us in a few decisions where I thought otherwise.

As is Xmas tradition we then give them a gift. As is any time we give them an own goal. We still can't attack or defend corners and Lukaku is a joke that Jose must still be laughing at. His touch is so bad I'm too embarrassed to mock the reds about Ballotelli

Perhaps a As miracle in the second half?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We are terrible. No pace, no passion, no-one taking responsibility - all very predictable. The formation is a joke. Totally depressed!

Agree0 Disagree0

So no Xmas miracle then just more of the same drivel. This is as bad as the early Moyes days.

Agree0 Disagree0

Christmas miracle?
Bah humbug! Our club must really be in Santa's naughty book this year :-(

{Ed025's Note - bobby crachett needs to get some serious dosh from eberneezer kenwright and get some players who seem to give a toss sid..

1-0 ht, awful stuff again, you simply can not play with 4 Central attacking players, nobody seems to know where they should be playing, and I'm fed up to my gill of thus fancy pancy tip tapping along the back four and Barry. If I start on Rom then il really get angry, I think Bobby is afraid to drop him! He's been absolutely useless!! Rant over!!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I wish RM hadn't raised our expectations with what he did last season, as it makes this season's poor results & poor performances all the more disappointing.

I see Howard talking about who will replace him when he retires, a couple if post last week saying we need a new GK now. Who do you think would be a realistic replacement now I would like schmeichel myself but don't think there are that many good keepers about. It was great to see Besic on Monday seeing that number 17 getting stuck in reminded me of Cahill back at goodison.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Me personally Robbie, and I've said it before, i'd like Mcgregor from Hull.Good keeper imo.
