Some posters expressed the opinion that RK, even without new signings, would get a better performance from the squad of last season.
Imo with a better fitness level and better understanding of tactics he probably would improve our league position by two or three places. But by analysing individual players and their levels of consistency in performance RK will realise there are players he can rely on to always give one hundred percent and others, the so called 'flair' players who he has to figure out how to harness their ability to gain much more consistency.
It's now down to man management to understand what is the best motivational technique to facilitate the transition to better and more consistent performance.
Until this happens and/ or Steve Walsh works his magic, in January, we will see periods of good and poor results.

{Ed025's Note - good post that fancy..

01 Oct 2016 22:44:56
Absolutely spot on Fancy Smith. It's a very natural transition process you mention there. Problem is most fans don't have the patience for it to take its course and demand success right now.

NBTB - interesting to see the words fans and patience together in the same sentence.

Looking back at last night in the cold light of day our real issue is that if Lukaku doesn't score where would our goals come from?
It's all well and good to say we need a midfield creator better wide men, but they to need to contribute.
I hate to admit it but look at the RedS they have goal scorer's in abundance and don't rely purely on one source.
Ross, Del boy, Mirallas need to start pitching in with a few to help the team!

Niasse has got to be worth a chance we had no one on the bench last night to change the game.

About the comonwealth games I seem to remember that the city of Manchester stadium had a athletics track and when city moved in they replaced the running track by widening the pitch and put more seats in to create the football stadium it is now.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

02 Oct 2016 08:08:07
Yes Mossley that's all true mate, and that stadium (I seem to remember) was never meant as a permanent venue for athletics the opposite was the case with the London Stadium which means West Ham are stuck with it and good luck with that one Hammers!

We were never going to be transformed into a top four team overnight. Despite the relatively easy start on paper to be in the top half dozen or so is satisfactory.
We have to be a bit patient.
We would have lost that Palace game last season.

I think a few teams will be surprised when they meet Palace this season, especially if they get 90 mins the way they played the 2nd half against us.

I don't think we were too bad but feel we were not as good in the 2nd half as we were in the first. Once again though we were such an improvement on the last 2 seasons.

Barklay I'm srry to say looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights it was as if he was trying too hard and over doing his role therefore mistakes were made, BUT again he looked better than last season, 3 or 4 more games shouls see him right I think.

Very refreshing seeing Roms interview on Sky, what an intelligent bloke he is, he really has faith in Koeman and says he stayed because of him. Well done Rom.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i actually thought ross had a decent game grumpy he worked hard and showed some good touches, barry looked a bit jaded to me but my biggest concern is coleman, he overlaps really well but his end product is very poor and his defending is less than adequate, i agree that palace look decent and work very hard and them being our bogey team hindered us, but that might just be me looking for excuses mate.. :)

01 Oct 2016 09:17:07
Ross needs support not taken off every game we might of been better off take in Cleverly off he looked tired.

Agree1 Disagree2

{Ed025's Note - i would of kept ross on last night AB, but im not the manager thank god mate.. :)

01 Oct 2016 12:15:31
Coleman has lost it big time. Can't jump, can't cross and can't defend. Ship him out January and a few others.

GK, CB, RB, LB, CM, CAM, RW, LW, ST.

01 Oct 2016 16:56:29
I agree guys Coleman did look poor, Delaney ( think that's his name) had the measure of him throughout and made him look very mediocre. I hope the enjoyment of the game has not left RB but I don't think he was enjoying it much last night. I still say another 3 maybe 4 more games is all he needs to be back at his best.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Oct 2016 21:27:28
Coleman never has been able to defend, same as Baines. They both need someone in front of them able to drop back and allow Coleman and Baines to bomb on. The other point is Barkley, I come back to his weight, with his build he looks to heavy and at this level it is all about very fine margins. Koemans style of play means that every player has to be spot on and Ross at the moment cannot give a full 90 minutes. But I have far more faith 200 percent more in Koeman and his staff to get it right, it is going to take more than a season to repair the damage done under the last lot.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Oct 2016 22:54:27
At the end of the is season a lot of good work will be done and the squad will be heading in the right direction BCD I agree with that.

On Barkley, maybe there is something wrong with my eyesight but he looks to have lost weight since last season. He looks fitter and leaner to me. Maybe my eyesight is going downhill rapidly but that's how I see his physical appearance.

I don't think that's his problem. I think its more psychological. Confidence and decision making imho are his main areas to improve on.

Anyway, I have a feeling the Barkley debate will go on for the most if not all of the season.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Oct 2016 07:41:49
Barkley looks a lot fitter to me and I agree with NBTB it's in his head rather than his belly. As for Coleman I thought he had a decent game the other night and wasn't afraid to link up with the attack, if the not being able to jump is referring to the Palace goal, he should never have found himself having to mark Benteke in the first place, and was never going to out jump him. I know it's in our nature to pick faults and scrutinise players but sometimes there is a bandwagon that people tend to jump on rather than express their own opinion. I notice there has been no criticism of Bolasies performance? Other than one decent cross in the first half he was anonymous throughout and didn't offer much in way of attacking the fullback and the byline.

I think we need a midfielder who can give a quality pass to unlock a defence in games as tight as last night where we get them from is anyone's guess.

I played combined services as a youngster, for those of you who know that was quite a good amateur standard and I played with some lads/ men who had been excellent in their time, the sort of guys that always had space, could literally stand on one spot and spray the ball around. We need to find a younger Barry.

1. strange team selection, 2.late substitutions, too late to effect the result, 3. trying to tell us we played well, when, at least in the second half, we where dire, anyone find this just a bit to familiar.
I have admired Koeman for his candour and his willingness to change things when they are not working, tonight had an unfortunate tinge of martinez about it.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

{Ed025's Note - bit harsh that JCW, its 7 games in ffs and he is still getting to know the players and implement a system, rome was not built in a day but i imagine if you and a few others were on the job it might have been mate.. :)

01 Oct 2016 01:17:13
Yes, but when they were promised the colosseum, they got the colosseum, inc lions, and gladiators, and chariots, we get cleverly.

Agree0 Disagree1

01 Oct 2016 07:35:28
''tonight had an unfortunate tinge of martinez about it''

Jcw. . If you think RK has a magic wand and can make the legacy of the Martinez shambles go away in an instant, then mate you have greater expectations of him than I do!

Ronald Koeman is just a man, a man with the task of cleansing this team of the decay that 3 years of 'non management' has brought about.

Nope don't think wand think mop and bucket!

Agree4 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i cant get my head around people thinking we would be instantly transformed into a european super power 247, it must be like spud said "microwave supporters" who cant see that this is a 2-3 year project, even if we throw money at it it will still take time as its about changing the system and mentality of everyone at the club and even supporters, of course its nice to win and to watch great football every week but lets be realistic thats all im asking mate..

It's not koemans team yet. think there will be in comings in Jan an next summer and I'll judge at the start of next season.
Were 3rd won 4, drawn 2 and lost 1. It a good startime and we can only get better.

That said we need to be blob on against citeh next week to get anything, but unlike being under martinez, a win is not out of the question COYB.

Agree2 Disagree0

01 Oct 2016 08:49:33
Fanatic. . I go along with all that and think the real 'watershed' imo will be the next summers new additions, I'm not sure RK will have the choices available in Jan. to make a massive improvement etc. still looking forward to it though.
Oh and '' a win is not out of the question COYB'' you better believe it mate 😉.

I am a wee bit disgruntled. Firstly, last three performances, not even taking results into consideration, performances only.

Goalkeeper, unfortunately, looking like what he is. Out of his depth.
How many in the ground would have known who he was if he was sitting next to them this time last season. Sorry but starting a re building job from the back does not start there. Williams positional play not too hot.

All bluster no substance. Must improve. The demise of Barkley quite remarkable and sad. No idea what the answere is there. Drop him will be the call~ RK seems to keen on defensive midfielders n would most prob put another in there somehow.
Too many players, unbelievably, already look dis interested. We know who they are ( Kev (again) Ged (looks scared) Baines looking his age)

Is Koeman a busted flush by end of October? Making a few early subs in early games, a decent manager it does not make. My confidence, like the teams, is on the wane.
Whats happening across the park ain't helping me sleep either!

Agree0 Disagree1

01 Oct 2016 14:38:40
I can definitely see a striker as a priority 247 because if lukaku gets hurt then we will be up the creek.
I'm think, striker, creative mid and centre mid in Jan. the defence isn't going to bad we just need to sort the attack now.
I'm also thinking that Walsh and Co have been busy with transfer targets and getting there act together for the window busines to be done early this time.

What were the expectations of some fans once we had secured RK? If you really believed that we would transform into world beaters then you need to look at yourselves and not blame the team/ club/ board/ manager/ Ross. This team is a work in progress, RK has had 7 games in charge yet people are questioning him? The man himself has said it will take a couple of windows to get the team he wants so put some trust and faith in his judgement. The last 3 performances haven't been great, we can all see that, but do any of you who are having a go really believe we are going to plummet down the league to the depths of the relegation places? We have lost one league game and sit in the top half of the table, we have a manager big on discipline who will be on at the players for letting their levels drop. It will take time, as well as more dropped points, before we get to where RK wants us to be. Ridiculous to think otherwise.
On the subject of Ross, do some fans not realise that they are partly to blame for his performances at home? For the record, he didn't play too badly last night. His passing percentage rate is higher away from home and that's no coincidence imo. His first misplaced pass at Goodison and a large section get on his back for the entire game, that has to play on his mind. I mentioned, in another post recently, the video from Wembley and Jags having to tell him the fans weren't booing just him, does that not tell you how these idiots affect him? He's 22 years of age, we can't expect him to carry an entire team just because he's a local lad. Still, at least these so called supporters now have a target to vent against now that Osman has left the club. What these 'fans' need to realise is that they are running a talented lad out of the club with their constant sniping. Get behind him, get behind the team. We are 'supporters' let's all act like adults and do just that.

Ed025 your posts in this threat probably made me smile more than ever. Good reply's. It was me recently that brought up the 'microwaves generation'. Even though it wasn't me who came up with it originally. I asked for whoever it was to make themselves known. You say above it was spud. Was it him? Just interested.

Anyway, patience is very much needed as pointed out above. Again good post spudv. Good points made and as always makes a lot of sense.
