I think you got it spot on there Swan.

01 Nov 2015 23:19:28
I think McCarthy does not get enough credit for what he brings to the overall team performance, the amount of mistakes he forces by putting pressure on the other team is amazing! He is constantly hassling and harrying the opposition, wins countless balls back and imo is vital to how we play. His engine is incredible! He like Barry is the kind of player you don't notice till he is not in the team.

Also people say we play with 2 def mids, but in fact Barry generally drops back to create a back 3 allowing our full backs to push on and leaving McCarthy to deal with the centre of the pitch. This happens a lot and is a big part of how we play. He is only disappointing in advanced areas but that's not what he is there for. A very important player imo.

Howard
Stones - despite today.
Kone
McGeady
Mori - going to be really good for us.
Chelsea
Utd
Barkley
Kone - today.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Nov 2015 09:25:59
Kone or Naismith for me on best individual performance. McCarthy imo aflm78 gets it spot on. Even when McCarthy doesn't have the ball he does a lot with positional play and keeps the pressure on the opposition.

As aflm78 says we would miss him a lot if he wasn't there. He's still young and will develop into a world class player imo. Does a lot of unthankful work. Has the potential to be as good as Roy Keane was imo.

So I'd prob pick McGeady for most disappointing. There's a good few more I'd pick rather than McCarthy.

I def agree with Del boy as best signing. He's not great at tracking back but as you say Swan that's why we sacrifice 2 positions, Barry and McCarthy. They are 2 defensive midfielders no matter what way you look at it.

The reason them 2 positions are used is to allow the front 4 to attack more. Watching yesterday's game I was very impressed with Del boy. Every game we played with him in the team we are a serious threat going forward. Yes he doesn't track back as much as he should but as I said above that is why we sacrifice 2 other players for, for him to be able to attack more.

Yes he tries to beat his man too many times and at times hits the opposition player with a cross too much. No player is perfect. Apart from them negative's I think Del boy is absolutely fantastic. A real gem. Just hope Barcelona don't buy him back.

He makes us an exciting team. The best has yet to come as well. He has played very little this year. When he gets going he will be unstoppable. Very excited about him.

02 Nov 2015 10:52:04
I get what he offers mate, love McCarthy. Yesterday he got ahead of Lukaku after a 1-2 and nearly could of scored. In Martinez's first season we missed him against Palace when he wasn't there and Barry was alone. That was numbed a bit by Besic coming in when McCarthy was injured last season. In his first season he was getting ahead of Lukaku and when he did get the ball in the final third he was brilliant. Last season and this season he seems less aggressive. He is getting dominated more, would just like to see the same McCarthy from 2 seasons ago that was aggressive, a willing runner and ran games by himself.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Nov 2015 12:49:55
I understand what you're saying Swan and sometimes I wish he would take a shot on or play a one-two and look to get beyond their backline especially as he knows Barry is always there to cover him. But I still think he is a great player and very important to our style of play. Btw that wasn't me who pressed 'disagree'. :)

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Nov 2015 20:19:45
It wasn't me who pressed diagree either Swan. It was only the 2 I mentioned that I'd change from yours. Think your spot on for the rest. I agree with you also he used to be more aggressive. I think around that time your talking about when he was more aggressive he got encouragement to do so by Trappatoni. Then manager of Ireland.

Trap publicly shamed McCarthy into get more stuck in, in games. All Trap said to the press was that he was too nice. Done him world of good and he pressed on from there. He's not as timid as he used to be but your right he's not as aggressive as he was 2 seasons ago. There's room for slight improvement there.

Barkley needs it more if you ask me. Martinez is to much of a nice guy to encourage them to be more aggressive. I'd love if he done what Trappatoni done on McCarthy and just say to the press that both there play is too nice. The whole team would benefit.

Nice to see Kone get hatrick today, who's was best Naismith or Kone?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - naisy was the perfect one L foot R foot header....but i really enjoyed them both robbie..

01 Nov 2015 21:57:19
Would have to give it to Naisy as Ed said it was the perfect one and against Chelsea too. Having said that Kone's was great as well!

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Nov 2015 22:05:15
Naismith's was better in termsof the game after the whose stones situation. But Kone's was better in terms of the quality of the goals IMO. 2 great left footed finishes an Lukaku's cross for Kone's third was brilliant. Just need McGeady to get one and everyone can be loved again.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Nov 2015 22:47:43
After the way that other RM signings - Barry, McCarthy, Joel, Kone, etc. - have been winning over so many of the initial doubters, wouldn't it be great if McGeady did the same - but surely that woyuld be hoping for too much don't you think?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im afraid you dont get a coconut every time sid.. :)

01 Nov 2015 22:56:15
Ed025: forget the coconuts - it's a peanut that I'd like to see fit again for selection, as he could still do a job now and again for our team :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - I forgot about him Sid, he's been injured for so long that I don't class him as an option at the moment mate and with Del Boy and Lennon ahead of him it seems to me that it will be hard for him to break back in

02 Nov 2015 20:22:32
I'd love to see him get a chance as I defended him on here before. Can't see it happening though. What I can see happening is him leaving in January.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Nov 2015 19:50:18
So what have we learned today!? Well, about Howard not much really, made a cpl of decent saves but was never really put under pressure. Expect a much sterner test away to W Ham next week.

We learned that poor old Oviedo is the new Gibbo and seems not to be able to stay fit for any length of time. I really feel for him as he is a good little player when fit.

Think I'm falling in love with Mori. Looks a really quality player and dare I say it better than Jags or Stones lol

Kone is a joy to watch at times! So pleased that he has got back to full fitness and it's great to see him playing with that infectious smile on his face and to hear the crowd chanting his name now! What a turn around!

We were a bit sloppy in defense at times but I think that's because we felt too comfortable at 2-0 and switched off! However, some of our attacking play was incredible.

Doofy's pass for Lukaku's goal, Rom's for Kone's header, McCarthy's reverse pass for Kone's second. Sheer class and worth the entrance fee alone!

Barry ran the show, Coleman looked back to his old self, Ossie did ok when he came on and offers another option, Kev looked hungry as well.

All in all a lot of positives today, but next week is vital. W Ham are a good side and going there is never easy, but 3pts next week could really set us up nicely! COYB! Let's kick on from this and really get this season going!

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - it was good at times zacki, but they are a very poor outfit mate, we will still need to step it up a bit against the better sides imo, but take nothing away from the team they did a good professional job..

Ed025,
Blimey, I bet you boys are happy Toffee's?
Terrific win.

I sais last week I was happy Barry had been suspended, well I'm happy to eat my words. He was absolute quality today, ran the midfield, a proper captain's performance. Sorry Gareth. Made up for Arouna, really good performance, Starting to like this guy alot, I think his hold up play is excelent and he rarely loses the ball. Fully deserved the hat-trick. Mori is looking like a decent signing and as for Tim, we all know his best days are behind him, but he did make a couple of good saves today, I know it wasn't a perfect performance and he needs replacing but credit were it's due he was better today than he has been recently.

{Ed025's Note - i totally agree skylark..it was like a mausoleum at times..

Howard-6-Noticed before the ball came in that Fletcher would score. For Howard's "experience" he offered none. Yes Mori should do better, but again, ball in his 6 yard box and he just stands there. Would of got lower cept for a few basic saves.

Coleman-7-Solid, not at his best but pretty close.

Stones-7-I too don't know what he was doing for Defoe's goal but thought he was pretty good throughout.

Funes Mori-8.5-Bar the goal he was excellent, dominate in the air and never put a foot wrong. Looks a good buy

Oviedo-7-Looked really bright and energetic, shame about his injury, will never get a good run of games.

McCarthy-7.5-Been poor most of the season, much better in everything he did. Made up for poor play by Barkley with a brilliant pass.

Barry-9-Brilliant today, seen him going past people, ran the game. No idea why he gets so much stick, maybe it's because he isn't a flair player. Some of the things he did were genius.

Deulofeu-8-Good cross for Coates own goal, that pass though was world class. 2m? Bargain. Was getting his shirt pulled by Jones then dived, should of been a foul.

Barkley-6-Being generous because of how good we were, wrong decisions every time.

Kone-10-Was unbelievable, hold up play, ran at people, perfect hat-trick. Helps Rom so much, what a finish with his left foot. Brilliant.

Lukaku-8-WHAT A CROSS, His hold up play was better and has improved this season. So much better with a pertner.

Galloway-7-Solid defensively as usual.

Mirallas-6.5-Unlucky his shot didn't go in, glad to see him back.

Osman-6-Good ball through to Coleman.

Really good game, Defoe's goal changed the game, no complaints. Tactics spot on by Martinez. Our fans were awful as usual, at 5-2 there were fools by me booing telling to hoof the ball up. Can Ross not take our set pieces? They are terrible, don't beat the first man. Mirallas, Cleverley, Gibson and Garbutt are the best in the team at them. Fans were dreadful, no noise all game even at 6-2. Honestly think we have the worst home fans in the country.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Nov 2015 16:47:24
I know people don't agree with me but Stones showed today why for me because of his ball playing ability he would be better sitting in front of the back four (once Jags is back), he makes silly mistakes as a CB and how can RM drop Mori. Good result, but 2-2 was purely down to Howard not coming off his line again.

Agree0 Disagree1

01 Nov 2015 16:51:43
disagree on howard can't blame him for that goal swan agree on barry important player for us still and yes our fans are a disgrace of late fools is two good a word for them.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Nov 2015 17:16:51
Agree with pretty much everything you say there Swan. Barry is having as good a season so far as he had in his first season imo. Can't imagine us without him at this stage.

Anyone see the Sunderland keeper catch the ball from a corner in the last few minutes? Let in 6 as Sunderland are very poor. Still managed to catch a ball that came into 6 yard box.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - now im not tims biggest fan NBTB..but thats just picking on him mate..

01 Nov 2015 17:27:09
Never mentioned him Ed, just pointing out that the Sunderland keeper can catch the ball with ease. Basic requirement for a keeper. Or is it? .

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i think we all know what you meant mate..

01 Nov 2015 17:39:15
Ridiculous to blame Tim for that goal! But not surprising as some fans just want to blame him for every goal so as to prove themselves right!

Not a single mention of the fact that 'golden boy' just stood and watched his man stroll forward and double up on Coleman leading to the cross in the first place!

No you're absolutely right totally Tim's fault! Stop guys it's embarrassing!

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Nov 2015 17:42:32
Big plus was Lukaku's first touch. His first touch's has let him down frequently in the past. Today they were top notch. Hopefully he keeps it up. Great team display today. Good foundation to have a good run of games now. Potentially can beat all teams till Xmas.

Hopefully be challenging for top 4 come the new year.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Nov 2015 17:52:03
Aflm, Doofy Loofy was at fault, doesn't mean Howard should not do his job.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Nov 2015 18:04:42
Is it 4 goals in 3 games scored at the 6 six yard box now? What, all four goals were someone else's fault other than Howards. Sounds like your blaming everyone bar Howard.

Golden boy, golden boy? Are you serious, I take it its Del boy your talking about. Scored one, set up 2 and you blame him for a goal. Yea its not Howard's fault at all. He's improving. He's only 36 and past his best. Post saved him twice today also.

Sad day when the keeper plays well because he didn't cause a draw or defeat. Loved Howard, great player, had great years watching him. I hope to god he proves me wrong. I hope to god Howard doesn't let a goal in for 10 games. I'll admit I'm totally wrong.

In reality we'll see what happens. You can hold me to it aflm78 if you want. I will totally admit I'm wrong if Howard plays well in the next few months. To say I want the opposition to score because I want to be right about Howard is absurd and out of order actually.

Every game I want Everton to win so don't accuse me of wanting goals to be scored against us. I'd be as happy anyone to see Howard awarded man of the match for the next 10 games.

We'll see how it pans out. Come back to me in 4 or 5 weeks. We'll see what the story will be then.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - come on guys lets put an end to this witch hunt, ok most dont feel howard is the best keeper now, but hes the choice of our manager and we cant change that, hes still an everton player and when he plays deserves our support..

01 Nov 2015 18:11:10
Think you're being a bit harsh on the two players you least like Swan. If it wasn't for a deflection off Stones, I think TH was perfectly placed to save the ball. Agree with rating for Ross but I'd be more worried if he was hiding in games, he was involved in a few moves today. I want to see him attempting things and having a go, think sections of the crowd will give him stick either way.
NBTB you stirrer you!
On another note, as much as I like Gerri and what he brings to the team, I think someone at the club has got to have a word with him about his blatant diving. Embarrassing at times.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Nov 2015 18:28:08
Watched the goal again, not blaming Deulofeu, not his job to track back when we play with 2 defensive midfielders. Poor defending from Stones but Howard still has to do much better.

Spudv, I was happy Ross was still willing to have a go, but when Rom is I'm acres of space waiting for the ball, on 2 different occasions he played the wrong pass. Which 2 players are you talking about I like the least? Is it TH and RB? .

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Nov 2015 18:29:47
Glad someone is giving Barry credit. All game I was saying how well he was playing and how he drove the whole team forward. Kone and Lukaku were great, that cross was unreal. Defensively poor but Sunderland are so awful we didn't need to do too much. I'm glad we are getting the fans in but the boo boys are doing my head in. People moaning when we are 6-2 up, can't understand it. I do think Barkley looked awful today though.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - ross reminds me of butch wilkins tommy..always involved without actually achieving anything..

01 Nov 2015 18:36:54
Ok fair enough Ed. I haven't anything else to say anyway. We all want Everton to win. I just get too passionate at times.

I will continue to support Howard and every other player who takes the field for Everton. Regardless of what I think of them I will support them. Never booed anyone in my life because I have more respect than that.

All in all great day for the club. Think its 8 years or something like that since we scored more than 6. It was 7 against Sunderland incidentally.

Onwards and upwards from here. COYB.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - good man..

01 Nov 2015 18:39:13
Alright spudv, totally agree with Del boy's diving. I'd be ripping with him if I was Martinez. If he continues doing that he won't get a penalty when he'd be genuinely entitled to one. Boy cries wolf and all that.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Nov 2015 19:08:35
Swan I'm sorry mate but that comment 'it's not his job when we have 2 def mids' is so sad it is not even funny!

That's like saying no one should tackle anybody unless they're actually marking him. Wtf?

Doofy stood there and watched his man yes his man stroll forward and join in the attack. That attack resulted in a goal and somehow you're trying to make excuses for him so you can keep the blame on Tim!

Ok enough guys it's just sad now! Kinda like our home fans lately! Sad!

01 Nov 2015 16:03:37

01 Nov 2015 16:00:12
Great result today. Very good performance in our attacking play - we took advantage of the room the opposition gave us. A bit flaky defensively - especially when we lose possession in our attacking third and we get caught short at the back if the opposition breaks quickly and counter-attacks. We also got lucky early on when Sunderland hit the post twice. But any criticism today would be harsh considering we've scored six at home - even if Sunderland were poor in defence and midfield. Final comment: Kone was outstanding today and capped it with a superb hat trick.

For me Barkley and lukaku have been terrible
Short or well over hit passes, poor

Cmon second half bit of atmosphere!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i think lukaku has been excellent ant, as for ross i keep thinking of the song.."busy doing nothing", he has had like 100 touches of the ball yet not once has he affected the play!..come on ross mate your better than that, grab the game by the scruff of the neck lad and press forward..

01 Nov 2015 14:36:35

We need to go at them from the off, sick of us needing to go 1 or 2 nil down before we start playing properly.

There will be an applause around the ground in the 4th minute for Howard Kendall.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i dont want to sound pessimistic but this one is a potential banana skin swan, they have a new manager and are coming off the back of a 3-0 win, i personally think they are an awful side but we do have a habit of under performing in these types of games..i just hope to god im wrong..

01 Nov 2015 12:51:49
They've won the last 2 at Goodison as well mate, I'm not confident.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - knowing my luck we will probably win 4-0 now.. :)

Let's put bogey Sunderland to sleep today we need to get over this fixture let's take it to them, they will sit and hold and try get us on the break but if we score early they will have to come out and play then we should wipe the floor with them. The applause in the 4 th minute will be class for our great Howard.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - your right about an early goal stef..i think its vital mate, the crowd will get edgy if we dont and that will transfer to the players..
