A tricky away trip to villa will be a good test for us let's hope Rm plays the positive formation he finished with against utd .Ed do we have any fitness issues ahead of tomorrow's game and do you think cleverly will be man of the match?

{Ed025's Note - its a no and no Am8, it should be a good game actually, they really need the points and we are playing well, my fancy is for it to be a draw mate..

so cruel for bryan to suffer yet another injury, the lad has so much ability but its his passion and work rate I love the most. seems to appreciate us and seems really happy to be here, class lad all round. hope he can recover quickly.

Well said. Wish him fit for next season. Feel he can do the left midfield job that has been so lacking this season. Committed player and not afraid to have a pop on goal.

Regarding the whole Garbutt situation. The reason he could be on his way out is because of a lack of playing time - which is mainly down to Baines being 1st choice left back. Does nobody else reckon Baines could be converted to a CDM similarly to Lahm at Bayern? I think he'd do a pretty good job there. He can defend, pass, has good vision, and is great coming forward. This would also provide oppurtunity for Garbutt to nail down the left back position. Just something that's been going through my head for the past couple of months, thoughts?

Cheers.

I'm not sure Baines is actually good enough to convert. Although great for us he's never been a world class footballer; certainly not in Lahm's class. Personally I would drop Baines now and state that Garbutt is #1 and just hope its not too late to keep him. I would have done that a couple of months ago to be honest. Baines' abilities are weakening with age.

I have never seen Lahm good for CM. Player like Backham who play for 180 degree difficult to convert for 360 degree playing.

since when could baines defend? i'd sell baines asap, he's been under par for the last 3 seasons.

{Ed025's Note - thats harsh swan, 18 months ago he was the best left back in europe mate..

01 May 2015 09:11:32
Baines was two years late being first choice left back as Moyes always preferred Lescott in the role, Baines is an out and out left back not CM or LM, he is on the wain but can still deliver a great cross ball. Not sure WTF has gone on at the club with penalties he is one of the best end of! also not sure last time he scored a direct free kick either, but his assist record is better than most midfielders.
However all said and done Garbutt has waited long enough and really deserves an opportunity.

i disagree but either way, something needs to be done, we can lose garbutt and stick with a 31 year old baines while garbutt goes on to be one of the best left backs in the league. one must go.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i dont know why 1 has to go swan, garbutt is the heir apparent, and with brian suffering yet another setback we will need both of them this coming season mate..

01 May 2015 10:25:16
because both will want regular game time and martinez has proved he would rather play a half fit baines than a fully fit on form garbutt. while I agree both are needed, I can't see garbutt waiting until baines retires in 5 years time to play regularly.

I'm not sure about baines as a cdm. He just seems to be a pure left back, nothing else. Garbutt is heir to the left back throne, and will get more game time next season if he stays. I'm not sure, but can't garbutt also play left centre half?

Baines is a left and still the best in the Premier League. He is one of our most potent threats and in the early defensive disasters this season he was the one that didn't come in for criticism.

Garbutt is still a long way off being anywhere near Baines. Some of you are are just getting carried away that he is this world beater. He's young and inexperienced and will make plenty of mistakes.

I want tried and trusted with a good start next season that gives us a platform for a shot at the CL places. I don't want any risks taken. If that means the lad doesn't get games early on then so be it. I care more about where we finish next season than giving him a few games to keep him happy.

I'm with bluejohn on this for me Baines will be first choice next season and rightly so I do think him and garbutt can play the left side together if needed which would give garbutt more game time also think Baines could push inside to play cm but maybe season after however must keep hold of garbutt and think we will

{Ed025's Note - i do too coby mate..

Garbutt should be happy that he's at everton learning from one of the best in the business. Because that's what baines is. I think leightons ability can be his worst enemy sometimes. Because we all know he's capable of the extraordinary we shoot him down when he doesn't do it. Even when he's having a bad game he's still better than most other left backs out there

{Ed025's Note - fair point kingy..

02 May 2015 10:25:01
Garbutt needs to realize that he could leave but if it's to one of the top 5 clubs he's unlikely to be in a better position than he is at Everton where due to the age of Baines he will almost certainly become first choice in 1 probably 2 years then he's got maybe 11-12 years at the top barring injuries although his agent is probably looking for a payday so who knows.

Again, Swan, where is the stats that prove he has been below par for the last 3 seasons? This season yes, as have the majority, but there is no truth to what you say. In at least one of the last 3 seasons, he has had the most assists for a full back throughout Europe. Garbutt, although he looks like he will turn out to be a fine player, has a long way to go to get to that level. I want him to stay but, if he decides that the grass is greener elsewhere, I'll be happy that we have both LB and BO to call upon for the full back spot. 31 isn't too old in today's game, they look after themselves properly unlike in years gone by. As someone stated further up, LG should be grateful that he is at a club like ours. It is up to him to keep the others out when he gets his chance and, so far, he hasn't done enough to keep out international players. He needs to bide his time not chase pound notes
