Use our rumours form to send us everton transfer rumours.

19 Jul 2017 23:16:38
I know it's pre season and I'm not getting carried away, but what has pleased me most about the early signs from the Blues is the youngsters staking very valid claims for first team football. I'm absolutely made up with the signings we've made, but equally impressed with the attitude of the young players. It's like they've taken the bit between the teeth and thought "right, we'll show you! " All in all, it bodes well for the club and for the future.

Have to agree the young lads are certainly staking their claim. RK has got some difficult decisions to make I am wondering if the form of some of the youngsters will influence our transfer dealings. There are only a couple of positions that need actual additions if the young lads are included in the squad. LB and ST possible an attacking mid but not sure at the moment.

Good win for the Blues tonight, can't wait for the Europa QF now. What's everyone's thoughts on Renato Sanchez from Bayern? BM telling Milan (also Europa League) they want €48m for him. That's less than Swansea want for Gylfi! Eds. no chance on this one?! Cheers.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

20 Jul 2017 04:38:47
Sanchez poses a gamble whereas Gylfi is proven in the prem. I'm not denying he's a hot young talent. But if we're talking fees, then I'd spend the money on what poses e lesser risk.

Agree1 Disagree3

20 Jul 2017 12:20:27
Why limit ourselves with this 'proven in the prem' stuff? It's not like prem teams do well against these players in Europe. While we all remember some failures (Soldado, Schevchenko) , equally there are loads of players who came to the prem for the first time and turned out to be brilliant - especially in the playmaker position. Eriksen? Silva? Coutinho? Hazard? Mata? Özil? Would you really have paid more for someone 'in the prem' than for these players?

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Jul 2017 14:09:15
Hadn't thought about that before coyb but a very good point. Maybe it's to do with the physicality of the league in that strikers get pushed around by big CBs and DMs whereas creative attacking midfielders can still dictate a game?

That said there's a fair few foreign strikers that have done OK - Drogba, Henry etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2017 07:33:25
I take your point WB, but all those guys are small yet still manage the physicality. And let us never forget those 'proven in the prem' players who turned out to be garbage: Torres and Carroll. Having said that, we do need to bear in mind there is often an adjustment for players who come from slower-paced leagues or sunnier climates and tbf some never quite fulfill expectations - I guess you can say is one fewer risk factors, but not enough in my view to ignore talent elsewhere or pay an extra £20 million for.

Hi blues,
Will Cuco Martina be our starting right back while Coleman is out, or do we think he will be sharing time with the likes of Holgate?

Just watched the live stream via the Everton official club website of the pre-season match against FC Twente. No problem with the broadcast quality/ reliability - hooray!
A good 3-0 victory, fairly comfortable (but it's only pre-season of course) , with goals from Mirallas (a cracker) , Lennon (very pleased for him) and Dowell (another cracker! )
Of all the players used by us in this match (21 of them - only Stekelenburg played the entire match) , the only one that I thought wasn't quite "right" was McCarthy, but that's probably a harsh assessment especially as it is pre-season. The others looked like they're progressing nicely for next week's match in the Europa League.
One good thing is that the first leg is at home, so we won't spend more time than necessary travelling beforehand and can instead concentrate on preparing at USM Finch Farm.

Dowells goal was a cracker. Good close control followed by a fine finish. Don't think much of Twentes ground though lol.

Everton official club website reporting that "Ramiro Funes Mori has had a problem within his knee and has undergone further surgery in Barcelona which will require prolonged rehabilitation of a minimum of six to nine months. The defender tore his meniscus while on international duty with Argentina in March. "
That certainly puts paid to any move for him to Inter Milan (or wherever) this transfer window and surely means we'll want to recruit another experienced centre-back (left-sided? ) .

Tbh Bobby we may not need one. We got jags and Williams as well as Keane, holgate and besic or Barry as cover. Could even play Rooney there, he played everywhere as a kid. Haha.

19 Jul 2017 21:14:34
geoffjohno - fair point, but I don't like square pegs in round holes AND modern football is so physically (and mentally) intense that I believe that players have to be rotated in order to stay fresh and uninjured - especially as we want to compete in four completions during this (and future! ) seasons.
The travelling for Europa League matches plus the changes to the normal Saturday 3pm kick-off times will be disruptive to the training and recovery programmes of our squad, so RK will need good cover in every playing position and for every playing formation he uses.

Everton official club website reporting that "Ross Barkley underwent surgery today on his groin, with the injury having prevented him from travelling with the Everton team last week to Tanzania and this week to Holland. The surgery has been a success and he is expected to be able to return to play in approximately four weeks. "
With about six weeks to the close of the transfer window, I wonder where that leaves his situation.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - he stays with us or will be sold for buttons bobby..

19 Jul 2017 20:04:01
Just wonder whether this is the end for Ross. Is anyone going to sign him if he's injured. Could be a plot where club announce he has signed a new deal just before the first game of the season along side another big signing to boost fans. Tbh Ross can stay or go for me. Much rather we keep hold of rk and sw for as long ad we possibly can. They seem to be able to bring success to our great club (with Mr moshiri's money) .
Whatever happens I will be throwing my full support whoever pulls on the royal blue jersey pm on the stoke game and more importantly whoever pulls on the blue shirt after 1st of september

Has anyone else had problems streaming the fc twente game via everton tv?
It's supposed to be free for season ticket holders but every time I logged in I was invited to either become an efc member or pay for the game; not very impressed to be honest.

Rhapsody in Blue - I had a problem connecting at first, but that was my fault for leaving it until kick-off time. Once I had connected, the broadcast to my iPad was excellent. For Saturday's match, I'll be sure to connect well before kick-off and expect no problems.

I tell you what. Our squad looks great and Pickford and Sandro didn't play. Dowell could be a complete revelation this season. Connelly at left back looked good as did Martina at right back. Klassen didn't do much, Rooney has that touch of class about him. Boys this is a potential great season ahead oh a great to see Besic playing at centre back could offer us a great ball playing option as well.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

19 Jul 2017 20:07:34
Besic could turn out to be great replacement for mori. Didn't he play for his country in euros last year as centre back?

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2017 20:08:09
Klassen made a decent run for the header, bit more luck and we could have been congratulating him on a goal too. Lookman is looking energetic, I even like Mo Besic at CB doing all those positive runs but he's not really been tested defensively! . In fact I haven't really seen a player yet they hasn't impressed me.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2017 21:27:12
Besic is great at bringing the ball out of defence, but does he have the height/ strength to be a Premier League centre-back?
I’m old enough to remember a match away to Arsenal (in 1970-71 I recall - the season after we won the league) when Howard Kendall was moved to centre-back and we were slaughtered 4-0 because he couldn't cope with their aerial prowess. That experiment wasn't repeated!

I think in a 3 yes Bobby his defensive duties would be different. As I said it offers options.

Here's another bit of trivia about our Europa League squad.
I'll stand corrected if one of the Eds can tell me otherwise.
Although Calvert-Lewin and Lookman are both aged under 21 and would normally be registered in the List B squad, the UEFA regulations mean they'll have to be included in List A because they haven't been registered with Everton for two years. (John Stones was initially affected by this a few seasons ago. )
I believe that Holgate, who now has been here for two years, and other youngsters like Davies, Kenny, Connolly, Dowell, etc., should be eligible for List B.
It'll be interesting to see who's on List A and List B when these are registered on 21st July for the third qualifying round matches.

19 Jul 2017 17:22:01
Here's an arcane point that perhaps one of the Eds can clarify.
Under UEFA regulations, the players we register for our Europa League full squad (known as List A) are classified as "locally trained" (i. e. homegrown) or not (i. e. essentially foreign signings) .
"Locally trained" players are further classified as "association trained" (in essence, been registered with any English clubs for three years before they were 21) or "club trained" (been registered with Everton for at least three years before they reached 21) .
There are limits on the relative numbers of each type of player in the registered squad. If we can't meet the rules, we may not be able to register the maximum of 25 players in the List A squad.
My point is this: does Wayne Rooney, having returned to the club he spent his youth registered at, actually qualify as "club trained" or is he now just "association trained"?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Without checking the dates he is club trained at Everton. 3 years from 15 to 21 is the criteria.}

19 Jul 2017 17:39:40
His 15th birthday was in October 2000 and he was at Everton from before then (1996 I believe) until August 2004, so it would appear that he was registered with Everton for the required three years.

Rhapsody in Blue - no offence taken, mate. I’m now just as intrigued as you about who this “Cowpat Sid” character was. Before I registered on this forum, I used to read the posts and quite a few other posters from back then seem to have gone awol. A few, as I recall, were quite rightly banned for overstepping the mark, but it seemed that some were banned simply for annoying the grumpy Eds. Anyone know if Cowpat Sid was banned?

Looking at the players brought in this Summer and looking at those sent out on loan, does it look to some of you like RK is wanting to play three at the back more often this coming season - possibly in a 3-4-3 formation with maybe the option of 3-5-2 for certain matches?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Why is everyone so bothered about Ross let's face it he has hardly lit up goodison over the years. is it because he is a scouser? ? I wonder if he was born else where would we care if he went or not? It's getting a bit boring now there is a lot more going on at Everton at the moment to talk about . give it rest boys.

Hi Ed 025,I too find Ross wanting £125,000 a week a bit steep he could have stayed with us for a great deal more silly lad, the grass is not always greener as many others who have left us have found, at the end of the day the way the team is being assembled under R K, he really seems to be badly advised not to want to stay, good times ahead Ed with Mr Moshiri we are not finished yet in the transfer window, and also the new Stadium, love it cheers mate, GuernseyBlue.

My pennies worth re ross barkley situation. because he is a local lad being given the option to do what we would all as evertonians love to be able to do. play for our club and get paid unbelievable wages for. it makes us as supporters shake our head in dis-belief that he can turn this down when its so obvious we are going forward. if i had an agent who it seems may be giving meas a blunose the advice to leave my club . he wouldn't be my agent very long. ross is an eevertonian playing for Everton. doesn't really get any better does it? . i would love to say i can see him getting better but i dont. sorry.

{Ed025's Note - i agree sa, koeman is not a man to be trifled with mate as ross will find to his cost..

I would like him to stay, but i am not going to lose any sleep if he does go. Our midfield looks rock solid without him, both starting 11 and back up. Just can't wait for season to start, like being a kid again can't remember being this excited at start of season for a long while, haha.

If, and it's a big if with any tabloid, if the rumours about Ross demanding £150 are true, then him and his agent need to give their heads a wobble. a) if he does not want to stay at Everton, then he could effectively be pricing himself out of a move, b) if they do cave in, he's going to be under more pressure than he was ever has at Everton to perform. he won't be afforded any grace. and based upon what I've watched, he appears to struggle with pressure.

His agent is doing him no favours. if! the tabloids are telling the truth.

Reading a Tottenham page. Some journalist says "his lady has been in contact with him again" This lady is supposedly big in the sports world knows people high up in Tottenham and a few agents and only reports the truth. Well she claims Barkley has agreed terms with Tottenham. And the reason he hasn't signed yet is because We want 40million and Tottenham wanna pay 15 plus add ons up to 25.

I don't believe it one bit as that means we agreed for Tottenham to talk to him. And the other major factor is he wants 150,000 a week more than golden boot winner Kane. And as I mentioned in an earlier post Tottenham don't pay that sort of money especially not for a squad player.

If the rumour is true about Barkley wanting 150,000 a week. All i can say is what planet is he living on. I think someone needs to sit down with him and go through minute by minute of all the games he played and point things out to him. Saying that. Probably be a waste of time showing someone with illusory superiority. Is only going to make him worse.
