We just simply don't have enough quality in our team. word of praise for Coleman tonight thought he was head and shoulders above any player on the pitch.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

19 Dec 2016 23:19:03
I agree that Coleman was our best player.
The injury to McCarthy disrupted our pattern of play. Barry just didn't get going - he looked leaden-footed.
The injury to Stek meant we couldn't use another forward sub (Mirallas) as well as Calvert-Lewin, which. limited us in the second half.
No one (apart from Barry imho) played poorly for us, but we just didn't have the quality to keep the ball or really trouble their defence - and at the end we just couldn't hold on.
However, there's no shame in losing by just one late, late goal to the team that's now 2nd in the table - even if it is the dreaded darkside!

Totally agree with above posts. We are trying hard. Great to see plenty of fight in the team.

That's a good platform tbh NBTB. Work ethic must be nailed on before you add the quality. Continue with it then add the quality next month.

Agree with above. thought we missed jimmy mc in the second half. problem is can we raise our performances like that for all matches and not just against the bigger clubs.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Dec 2016 22:46:29
Why are we so shot shy?
Sturridge stuffy shot from outside the box leads to a goal, can our players not shoot anymore?

Believable3 Unbelievable1

{Ed025's Note - for rom to be effective wakka he needs better quality around him, when he plays for belgium with the likes of hazard around him he is very dangerous mate..

19 Dec 2016 22:53:52
Thing is ed025 Valencia and Lennon used to bang in goals from 25 yards with their previous clubs but it's like they are afraid to shoot for us! And what's happened to Barkley shooting boots?
Rom definitely needs support, hopefully we can recruit that in January!

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - or even cut our losses with rom and start again, he is going downhill faster than a fat kid on a slide mate..

19 Dec 2016 22:58:25
Ed025: you've hit the nail on the head. If Lukaku can score the number of goals he has at Everton (and before that at WestBrom) imagine what he'd do alongside even better players.
Valencia and Lennon work hard, but aren't real quality; Mirallas and Deulofeu just aren't productive enough; Kone and Niasse are forgettable; Calvert-Lewin is promising, but needs time to develop. We desperately need to bring in quality experienced forwards.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - and a playmaker sid, someone with a bit of craft and guile who can open up a defence, teams know that if you keep lukaku quiet then its odds on we wont score, its very frustrating mate..

19 Dec 2016 23:10:50
Rom had one chance before they scored, he had to take on 5 players!

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Dec 2016 23:23:15
Ed025: despite all the wishful thinking, I'm now pretty much convinced that Barkley is not that playmaker - and it would be better all round to get a decent fee for him and recruit a proven player. It's sad, as he's a true blue who's come through the ranks, but at 23 he's just not consistently delivering the performances we need.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im on board mate..

20 Dec 2016 11:25:34
Sadly I think Barkley has a great future behind him.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Dec 2016 22:40:43
Churchill once quoted, 'I thought we we're going to unleash a wild cat against them and all we got was a stranded whale.

Did their GK have a shot to save?

The first 20 minutes promised so much but like a mark Spitfire, it was all revs and no boost.

We simply are not good enough.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i second that mate..

19 Dec 2016 23:02:41
The one thing we have seen in our latest two fixtures is the players showing some bottle and the crowd recognising that and getting behind them. Now we need to add talent on top of the hard work. Sounds easy, which we know it isn't, but we can but hope!

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - the passion and intensity was fine sid as you say, its that lack of quality that is killing us mate..

19 Dec 2016 23:03:53
The role we need true quality in is currently occupied by Barkley. Regrettably he isn't good enough. I think what he lack is a good football brain. We need someone who is experienced enough with the vision to go with it.

If a good offer comes in for Ross we need to consider it. It's very sad I know, but he's not making the strides needed to be relied upon in that crucial position.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - after tonight a bad offer would suffice ace..

19 Dec 2016 23:06:19
Don't know about a Spitfire, but at least the team have stopped being a load of lazy Fokkers.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - love it sid..

19 Dec 2016 22:19:46
Will start this off by saying I'm NOT in the Koeman out gang, although I believe his substitutions lost us the game (although not directly obviously) . Can't see what he'd hoped to achieve swapping Barry and Mccarthy, and I thought Balenciaga was one of our better 'workers' and Calvert-Lewin appeared to young and inexperienced. Shows our depth if you ask me. Bring on January. and similar rant in July and August most probably.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - mccathy was injured kingo but i agree with the depth issue mate..

19 Dec 2016 22:25:25
What was the injury? Must have missed it. Nothing apparent was it?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i think he got a dead leg just before half time mate..

19 Dec 2016 22:32:44
He clashed with firminho and had a dead leg.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Dec 2016 22:40:37
I hope it's just a dead-leg for McCarthy, as his history of hamstring problems doesn't bode well.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2016 00:06:41
mccarthy was holding his hamstring when he went down.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Dec 2016 22:05:31
Defensively excellent, with the exception of the ball watching for the goal. However nothing going forward. Liverpool conceded 4 against Bournemouth, why did we not have a go at them. Lennon, Barkley and Valencia offered nothing in the attacking third. Need some serious transfer activity in January. Gutted yet again.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

19 Dec 2016 22:16:59
I have defended him twice now but Funes Mori was the guilty one either ball watching and/ or slow reaction. The one that hit the post and deemed a goal (correctly) and tonight. You are spot on Alistair. Gutted is an understatement. Still roll on the next one. I do honestly believe that Koeman is the man for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Dec 2016 22:21:35
Defensively excellent but short by 2 minutes so in the end it counts for nothing! Scruffy shot by Sturridge but he shook baines off to easily, the reaction from the rest was just to slow Robles nowhere!
But yes the real issue is we offered little in an attacking sense! Valencia, Lennon put a shift in but did not trouble the keeper, it seems it's Lukaku or nothing!
For his extra effort Barkley just lacked that bit of quality when it was needed, sorry to say yet again!
However the crowd was excellent so RK cannot have any complaints there!
It was always a draw but they had a bit of luck to win it!

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - we never tested mignolet with even a shot, lots of endeavour but a lack of quality im afraid wakka..

19 Dec 2016 22:25:35
Barkley didn't really produce anything worthwhile.
Valencia wasn't as effective as he was against Arsenal.
However, I thought Lennon did OK, but we need players to be more than just "OK".

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Dec 2016 22:37:40
I would be absolutely ashamed if one of our players made that tackle Barkley did. He shouldn't be alowed anywhere near a football pitch for a long long time.

Why didn't you go for it instead of trying to kick our players into submission? For me, tonight wasn't as much about lack of quality as it was about lack of courage from your part.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - it was,nt good mate i grant you that, there was no lack of courage though, we faded yes and never tested your dodgy keeper but to be fair you were not all that either..

19 Dec 2016 22:41:19
I agree ed025 I'm sure RK can't wait for the window to open, our shortcomings are obvious to all.
Some players seem haunted by the RM tactics and unable to move on.
Tonight was the best opportunity in years to undo the derby hoodoo and first half promised much but as you say the quality was sadly missing!
Frankly we didn't do enoug to win it a draw was the best our performance offered!

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - your right wakka mate..

19 Dec 2016 22:50:45
It was a terrible tackle by Barkley, but I've seen way too many disgusting tackles by darkside players on Everton players over the years. I can remember a knee-high shocker by Jimmy Case that effectively ended Geoff Nulty's career. Doesn't excuse Barkley, but there are plenty of instances similar to Case on Nulty for me to be overly bothered.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed025's Note - it was poor sid a bit like ross himself, the game has evolved a bit since the jimmy case days mate and i think it was frustration on the part of ross, he was miles off the pace tonight and frankly looked like a lost soul out there, i think levy may be getting a phone call shortly..

19 Dec 2016 22:55:56
Maybe you are right ed and maybe i am to caught up in it, but at half time i felt you lads would nick it - and it made me sick. By courage i didn't mean the courage to tackle, fight etc., but the courage to go for the win. I just never worried about losing in the second half, only about drawing.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i felt the same mate, we lost our way and never looked like scoring in the second half..

19 Dec 2016 23:04:40
I also think he's carrying a bit to much weight ed025 he is a big lad but at time looked like he was blowing, he needs more agility where he wants to play.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - he does look a pit porky wakka and though he has never had real pace he looked even more lethargic than usual tonight mate..

19 Dec 2016 23:15:36
Hope you get the players that you desire in jan. I want you to be as strong as possible and to still beat you - in games, cup finals etc. Good night gents.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Dec 2016 23:33:53
You was the home team and you played like away team in the 2rd half . Koeman knows if you tryed to attack us we can kill you off . thanks for the win.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - your welcome..

19 Dec 2016 22:03:11
Gutted, absolutely gutted, same story time and time again. I'm sick of the sky liverpool, I would rather be a manc than a kopite!
Gutted. lennon was awful and we need a keeper, robles should of been better placed!

Believable1 Unbelievable1

19 Dec 2016 22:21:07
I disagree that Lennon was awful. He put several crosses in, he ran aggressively at their defenders on other occasions, he came back to help our defence, and he never stopped working hard. We certainly need more quality, but, like with so many of our players, too many of the fans won't acknowledge the good things he does.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed025's Note - i thought aaron was one of our better players as well sid..

19 Dec 2016 22:32:35
Also thought Lennon was solid Sid.

Agree0 Disagree1

19 Dec 2016 22:02:30
Loads of effort and then just let it go at the end, just like Martinez sorry to say it but there you go. We just do not have the quality, need at least 5 players next month but just can't see the right one's wanting to come to us. We really needed to push on and be in about 6th or 7th in my view. But we will see, Koeman is well respected in the game so perhaps that will do it.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

19 Dec 2016 22:32:02
We never got going in the second half.
The players worked hard, especially in the first half, but we do lack quality.
The January transfer window can't come soon enough.
Barkley might be "one of ours", but it's just not happening for him and, at 23, will it ever at Everton?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - thats the 64,000 dollar question sid..

Believable0 Unbelievable2

19 Dec 2016 15:34:59
I don't want him. Imo he's and average overrated player. We could find better for a lot less money.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - He is moving elsewhere so you can put him out of your minds.}

19 Dec 2016 17:31:28
Last I heard, he was dead set on a move to Juve.
